What happens on a rooftop

Summary:

Burst needed to get away from posh people, losing maizey in the processes and getting onto the rooftop

Work Text:

Where is she? I didn't lose her already did I? Burst thought leaning up against the flat railing of the roof. Her eyes scanned across the city lights and the full moon. There were few stars out, and she could see into the many office buildings. She could even see one of the schools from here, though it had long since closed because of the summer.

She sighed, turning around and leaning back. This dress is so uncomfortable, I can't wait to change…maybe I can steal one of shrimps hoodies? She thought, her humming echoed across the silent rooftop. Her eyes downcast as she tried to come to a decision. She had plenty in her own closet, some that were hers and some that definitely weren't. She knew she had one of Andy's, one of Richies and she had quite a few she had stolen from shrimpy. She rolled her head back and shivered as a chill came from the winds.

She shrugged her coat over her shoulders, it had been too stuffy inside with all those people to keep it on. Burst was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even hear the rooftop access door opening. The loud clunking and screeching of rusty hinges lost on her as she thought. She didn't hear the sound of shoes coming up to her, though how would she? Shrimpy always had a way of sneaking up on her!

The shoes came into her vision and she looked up, a little spooked. Her shoulders jolted and her eyes widened, only for her shoulder to fall lax. She grinned as she saw the orange bangs and teal flips of hair. Familiar golden glasses and pretty purple eyes. Her grin softened as she looked at the moonlit face in front of her. Did maizey get new freckles? There always seems to be more, during the summer… her mind wondered at the sight of the freckles.

She didn't stop her staring, why would she ever. Only snapping out of it when she realized shrimps expression looked up. Her brow quirked up, shrimpy looked…contemplative? She couldn't quite tell. Awe struck? I don't think I look that good in this dress, it's not even mine I stole it from aria. She pondered at the thought. It wouldn't be the first time she caught shrimpy ogling at her tonight.

Though, I guess that was Aria's goal when she gave me the dress anyways. Her mind supplied, yeah, that makes sense. She grinned again, shrimpy thinks I'm worth ogling at? That's a win! She thought, her heart and ego thumping and growing at the realization. She only broke out of it when she realized shrimpy still hadn't said anything. Guess I'll have to start then.

“where did you go? I thought you were right behind me shrimpy!” she grinned, leaning forward, making sure to keep a tight grip on her coat so it didn't fall off. She tried not to think about how high in the air she was right now. She could already feel her stomach twisting. Fuck I'm already thinking about it please. She gulped a bit trying to hide it.

“I got lost in the crowd.” her voice echoed in the wind, Burst nodded along. Vague, as always. But straight to the point, she huffed and stuck her tongue out at her. No fun! No details! She never indulges in my little questions! Spite filled her mind but she rolled her eyes and waved her hand.

“what are you doing on the roof anyways.” the words were supposed to sound like a question. At least that's what Burst assumed. She giggles behind her hand. Then shrugged. The wind buffered against her again as she shuffled closer to shrimpy, away from the edge. She couldn't be that close to the edge anymore, she thought about it too much.

“What do you mean?” Burst asked, she couldn't stop herself as her brow quirked at her “date” for the night. She was so happy shrimp had agreed, she really wanted all those creepy geezers away from her. Especially since her dad was gonna be so busy talking to business moguls. She puffed out her cheeks a bit in a pout as she got a look from shrimpy.

“You hate heights. And you're on a rooftop.” She said, plain and simple. Maizey had a point! She hated heights, ever since senior year. Crumbling off that cliff did a number on her. She let out a sigh and shuffled closer to maizey, letting her arm hook around hers. Her grin dropped and she looked at her with a look.

“it's literally the only place to get some damn peace, and I'm sick of assholes all up in my shit!” She said, She could feel her anger rising, her voice getting louder. She couldn't really control it as she groaned, she hated these things! Yes, charity was great, yes she loved to help. She didn't like old geezers getting in their shit!!! Her mind screamed at her. She took a deep breath.

“some asshole was trying to sweet talk me and I just…needed to get out like immediately after that. I hate these things so much, but for charity or whatever.” She said, her hand flipping in the air for the dramatics. She leaned her head against maizeys shoulder again, she had already taken off her heels. Curse her growing taller. She couldn't fight the blush on her face, she just hoped the night hid it.

“then why don't we leave? There has to be a back entrance somewhere, right?” maizey said, looking down at her. Burst unmatched herself from maizeys arm and looked at her with a look. I didn't think of that, it's been over an hour I can leave now. She glared out of her thoughts as she saw maizey grin at her.

“don't even, let's get the fuck out of here. We should grab food on the way home too! I'm starving!!” she said, groaning as her stomach grumbled. She leaned into maizey and started to drag her towards the door. They could find a back entrance, and then walk home. The apartment they shared wasn't to far off, and she could handle a 20 minute walk in heels. Hopefully.

If not, she could just make shrimp carry her! That sounds nice..
