Hallo

Summary:

Kurt goes up to Erik when he comes to the school and says hi

Notes:

I HC Peter would call Raven "mama" as a term of endearment he picked up from calling her that around Bamfs (they're not in this fic, but I love imagining them with Peter and Kurt so that's my reason for why Peter calls Raven "mama" in this)

Work Text:

Everyone was told that someone would be coming to the school today. Everyone was told who would be coming to the school today. Even with the intended warning, nobody was ready to see him in person. A large group of people gathered in the foyer, waiting for the guest, wanting to watch from afar how he behaves.

It started with some curious teens, then some younger and older students came out to look, which made teachers have to come out to make sure they'd behave themselves. Peter was standing with Kurt to watch the students and make sure they didn't step out of line.

Truthfully, Peter was terrified to meet the man. He'd already met him before, but he still didn't know about their relationship. Kurt wasn't worried at all, seeing him as a person no matter what he's done.

The door opened and Hank held it for him to come through. Erik stepped through the door, followed by Charles. Charles was visibly annoyed seeing everyone crowding them. Erik looked around, taking in the different expressions everyone had; scared, worried, interested, none of them seemed very positive.

A moment of silence later, and Kurt disappeared from Peter's side. He was now standing in front of Erik with his hand out for Erik to shake.

“Hallo,” Kurt said with a smile, greeting the man.

Erik shook his hand firmly, surprised by Kurt's handshake. “Hello,” he responded.

“I am Kurt Wagner,” he introduced himself.

“Erik Lehnsherr. Du bist Deutscher?” Erik asked with a raised eyebrow. (You are German?)

Kurt's eyes lit up and his tail flicked. “Ja! Aus München, Deutschland.” (Yes! From Munich, Germany.)

“Meine Familie kommt aus Düsseldorf,” Erik told him. He looked at the way Kurt’s tail moved. “You remind me of someone I used to know,” he said. (My family is from Dusseldorf.)

“Ah, thank you,” Kurt said, taking that as a compliment.

Peter came up behind Kurt, messing up his fur with his speed. “Hey,” Peter said, nodding his head.

“Hello, boy,” Erik responded, holding out his hand to shake.

“Boy?” Peter asked. He looked at Erik's hand until Erik dropped it, not wanting to have to touch him.

“Be polite, Peter,” Kurt scolded him for his bad manners.

Erik shook his head, “That's alright. He doesn't have to shake my hand if he doesn't want to. Peter, was it? I never expected to see you again after… 1973.”

“Yeah,” Peter said. “Peter Maximoff.”

The man paused, seemingly surprised by something. “...Maximoff?” He asked after a moment. Peter realized he screwed up and his stomach dropped. “How old are you?” Erik asked. The speedster could hear the gears in his head turning.

“Twenty-seven,” Peter answered uncomfortably.

Kurt looked between them, not catching on. Peter told him about his and Erik's relationship, but Kurt wasn't understanding this conversation. “I am twenty-two,” Kurt said, thinking they were just sharing their ages.

“Yes, very nice,” Erik dismissed him.

“Ew,” one of the students said loudly, “that's a huge age gap.”

“Not as huge as the age gap between me and your–” Kurt smacked Peter’s stomach with his tail.

Peter groaned and doubled over, putting one hand on Kurt's shoulder and one on his stomach. He heard a BAMF next to him, but didn't turn to look, he already knew it was Raven. Raven turned back into herself from Kurt and said hello to Erik.

“What did he do?” She asked Kurt, talking about Peter.

“Mama, why do you hate me?” Peter complained.

“‘Mama’?” Erik asked. “Thank God, I was worried I had a son I didn't know about.”

Peter stood up and leaned on Kurt, looking away and hiding his face from Erik.

Raven opened and shut her mouth, looking between all the guys. “Peter just calls me that. He's actually… you do…” she trailed off.

Erik hummed. Peter couldn't see the expression on his face. “Peter,” he said, it sounded muffled so Peter assumed he had his hand on his mouth, probably trying to not gag or throw up thinking about having that much of a disappointment of a son, “what were you trying to tell me during–”

“Nothing. I'm going to go now, bye.” The instant he finished the word bye, he ran off.

Kurt sighed. “I am sorry about him,” he apologized.

“He is not your responsibility,” Erik answered. “It was nice meeting you, Kurt, but I should be going. Raven, may I speak to you on the way to Charles’s office?”

Raven sucked air through clenched teeth. “Sure,” she said. ‘Sorry,’ she mouthed to Kurt before walking away with Erik, Hank, and Charles.
