Today felt unreal to Bive. If someone told tell her that one day she would be standing in a dressing room in a white dress and veil, she would call them crazy.
Yet here she was, standing in front of the mirror wearing that exact attire. Her dress was more lower cut, exposing the fur of her shoulders, however the top portion was carefully cinched. The rest of the dress went down to the floor, the only thing peeking out was the very tip of her tail.
To top it off, she wore a small veil, which was a flower crown with a see through fabric draping down her back. The pearl white of the dress heavily contrasting the black hair that was her entire body. And surprisingly, for once, she actually smelled nice.
As to how she was physically feeling… her head was reeling. Her face was flushing and her heart rate was sky high. She could not believe this was actually happening.
Bive originally did not know what a wedding was. Who could blame her, she was literally raised in a laboratory and constantly on the run. She did not really know about any normal, mundane things, let alone a wedding ceremony.
However, when she one day had a rather unique conversation with Wallter, that changed. She recalled him briefly mentioning about his now ended marriage alongside another elevator passenger, and that ended up with Bive asking about what marriage is.
“Is that… just a ploy sent by the government? A tactic to trap someone into being mind controlled?!” Bive was practically interrogating the poor concrete man.
“What? Huh…? What are you talking about, my hairy friend?” Wallter asked, confusion can be heard from his tone of voice.
“That THING you just said! That… ‘marriage’ thing… whenever you talk about it, you look distraught.” Bive continued to push more into her interrogation.
At first, it stunned Wallter. How did someone her age not know at least the concept of a wedding? Let alone marriage? He did not wish to bring up his own marriage troubles, especially to someone who did not ask about it. He put it simply to help her understand, since she might keep pressing.
“Marriage is something that brings you and the one you truly cherish together. Most people have a big, beautiful ceremony that binds them together. You don’t have to, but it is rather nice. It’s a special day meant for the two soulmates…” Wallter tried his best, feeling melancholy as he explained.
“… I see.” Bive mumbled. It seems like her interrogation stopped at the mention of a day like that. She would enjoy being with Split for a very long time.
That sounded nice. The idea of calling Split her wife. It had a nice ring to it.
After a very long time of dating Split, Bive eventually popped the question. She didn’t not have any fancy ring in a box, she just asked Split. Split’s reaction had her nervous, especially due to the fact that she was stunned when Bive feverishly asked.
After a solid moment of silence, and as Bive was about to take back her question out of pure embarrassment, she was engulfed in a tight hug provided by Split. The yellow centaur was crying, sputtering words such as, “Yes!” and, “Of course I will Bivey! You make me so happy!”
And, flash forward, here she is now. Standing in a beautiful dress and feeling unreal. She could not believe that this day was all to her and Split. Her thoughts were cut off by a knock on the door.
It was DrRETRO, slowly making her way into the room. As she carefully adjusted her bow tie, her large grin only got bigger with glee as she let out a meow.
“Meow! (Bride to be! It’s time! You seem to be excited!)” DrRETRO said in a giddy tone. Bive just now realized that her tail was swishing under the white of her dress.
Bive only nodded nervously. Her mouth was practically screwed shut and her face felt warm. DrRETRO gave her a soft look and responded with a gentle tone.
“Mreow! (You’re going to do amazing, and you’ll be happier than ever.)” She purred.
“YOU… You’re right. I’m just… guh… nervous.” Bive’s voice had a slight tremble to it as she spoke.
“Meow! Meow! (Don’t be, dearie. You’ll do just fine! Now let’s go! Your wife-to-be is waiting!)” DrRETRO chirped as she ushered Bive out the door.
And with that, they walked out, the soft chiming of the organ reaching Bive’s hearing. Bive’s heart rate was already fast, however realizing that so many eyes will be on her only made it feel like it accelerated even more.
“Meow… (I can hear your heart beat. Just breathe and walk, dearie.)” Retro muttered.
Once the doors opened, Bive looked up, and there she was. Split, her soon to be wife, standing in a black velvety tuxedo. A small, yellow corsage that was most likely a prank toy was added to complement her yellow bow tie. Alongside that, a large black ribbon was added to her shell to top off the entire outfit.
Right beside her was PartyNoob, smiling and even having that silly party horn in their mouth. That would mean DrRETRO would be on Bive’s side. Alongside that, they were holding a small pillow, with two glimmers of gold sitting on top of it. It felt… perfect to her.
When she looked over and made eye contact with Bive, it felt like time froze. She stood still, eyes widened in awe. So was Split, apparently, with her face now dusted with pink and her looking at Bive with a starstruck expression. She heard the excited honk of PartyNoob’s horn, and saw Split shaking her head to focus.
The walking felt like forever, especially with so many eyes on her. While it was mostly Split’s family, and most of their acquaintances from the elevator, it still felt like so many eyes were on her. But, then again, she recalled DrRETRO saying that the feeling is normal.
Despite what she usually feels about being watched, she trusts this feeling. She knows she can trust Split, and knows that this is because this day was meant for them and them only.
Maybe she did change because of Split. And that’s a good thing. Change… was good.
When Bive finally made it up to the podium, she gently placed her clawed hands into the palm of Split’s larger, more softer paws. She always loved the dark brown pads of Split’s paws. She would always find herself drifting into a state of just gently messing around with them.
The officiant then began their long speech, discussing on how everyone is gathered to celebrate Split and Bive, two completely opposite beings on different spectrums. Both having their own silly traits, being completely different from one another, they still found love and care within one another. After a while of talking, the officiant quieted down.
The two almost did not realize that the officiant was passing the opportunity to speak to them. Ah, right, the vows. DrRETRO did bring up something about memorizing or coming up with something while helping the two practice for their big day. However, Bive did not need a paper.
“Split… when I first met you, the world was terrifying to be in. And I’m going to be honest… it still is. I still think terrifying forces like the clown militia is out there, and that makes me feel… um. Horrified.” Bive was sputtering out her vows quickly at this point, especially since she does not get caught up in a rant about the clown militia on her wedding day.
“BUT… HOWEVER… that changed when I… um-“ Bive looked down bashfully. “‘SLIPPED’ into Splitsville. I was soaked that day.”
She looked back up to her soon to be wife, only seeing her wonderful, curled up smile.
The pun had Split giggle, and Bive could tell she was trying to hold back her usual cacophony of laughter. That only allowed a goofy smile grow on Bive’s face, showing her sharp, yellow teeth.
“I don’t want to get carried away but… you helped me realized that I can be safe. Especially safe with you in my life. I don’t want to run away anymore. I can’t wait to call you my wife.” Bive looked up to Split giving her most biggest smile yet, and she could have sworn she saw tears forming behind Split’s glasses.
Split gently sniffled and rubbed her eyes as she took off her glasses. Her crooked smile was still wobbly and wide as ever, with her canine teeth showing. as she got out her paper from her pocket and gently unfolded it. She put her glasses back on and began to read.
“Bivey… If i had not met you, I still would be alone in the crowd of Splitsville. When I first met you, I couldn’t stop thinking about you… Split paused, trying to hold back a small giggle. “You could even say I was ‘ bananas’ about you!”
Short, heart filled laughter was filled as she winked at her almost wife. Bive let out her own awkward laugh, showing her own sharp teeth and her tail swishing more visibly now under her dress.
“In all seriousness though… Meeting you that day had helped me so much. It helped me ‘peel’ like a new person!” The two love birds were practically giggling at Split’s silly puns at this point.
“And with that, I am proud to say it will be more than ‘bana-nice’ to call you my wife!” Split could not stop the giggling, and Bive adored it.
The giggling from the two calmed down as they look over to the pillow that held the two rings, being held by PartyNoob. The two rings had a clear size difference, with Split’s being larger and Bive’s being more smaller in comparison.
As the officiant requested for the rings, PartyNoob approaches the two with tears in their eyes, alongside a bittersweet honk from their horn and a smile. The two grabbed the other’s ring from the pillow and looked at each other.
This is it. This will soon declare them to be wives. To open a new chapter in their lives.
The two began to slide on the rings, with Split being rather quick due to the small size of the ring in risk of dropping it. With Bive, she carefully slid Split’s more larger ring with a shaky hand.
“Split, do you take Bive, as your wife? To love, to cherish, and to support throughout illness and death?” The officiant asked, looking at the tall banana centaur.
“I do!” Split happily chimed.
“And Bive-“
“YES!“ Bive blurted out.
“…You didn’t let me finish…” The officiant said lightheartedly to Bive.
“I, UH… I’m just very excited.” Bive said, her smile wobbly and crooked. Her tail was also basically hitting the floor happily at this point.
“Very well, by the power vested in me by the elevator, I now present to you, the newly married Split and Bive!” The officiate announced.
“You may now kiss the bride!” They chimed.
And it happened so fast, but the moment the two leaned into the kiss that officially changed everything, it felt like time slowed down. Bive was obviously nervous, with her now ring bearing hand holding Split’s, it made the hairs of her body stand up slightly. Split felt tears slowly well up as she kissed the one she can now call her wife with a giddy smile.
Once they pulled away, they heard the crowd applaud loudly, wooing and cherring can be heard all throughout the building. White, paper rose petals had started to rain upon them. It made Bive happy knowing that Split had them arranged for fake petals instead of “potential cameras implanted by the government,” as Bive would put it.
Bive’s thoughts were cut off as she felt Split’s strong arms wrap around her waist, hoisting her up and twirling her around. Her shock was quickly replaced with cheery laughter alongside Splits as Bive held on to Split’s shoulders.
Once the two stopped spinning due to dizziness, they shared another kiss, filled with giggling in between and dopey grins. They pulled away, only focusing on each other. The hair creature found herself tearing up alongside Split as well, her tears dropping down and getting on the lens of Split’s glasses.
“I love you,” Bive mutter quietly, Split being the only one to hear it. “I love you so, so much, Splitty.”
“I love you too, Bivey! Forever and ever!” Split happily said back, unable to control her giggling and snorting.
For once in Bive’s life, she finally felt safe. She felt, no, knew that nothing bad can ever happen to her again. She felt like she truly found peace and happiness with the one she now calls her wife.
