"Can't a guy just peacefully have a dream where he's a Rat King and his royal Rat subjects gift him a lifetime supply worth of snacks?" Remus groaned hearing his alarm clock blare. The mustached man didn't know why he was hearing the obnoxious sound especially when his roommate Janus confiscated the device last time because Remus kept constantly barging in his room to purposely wake him up in the midde of the night. But he knew if it was back in his room that meant Janus had something important planned so he turned off the alarm, got out of bed, and walked to the living room area.
"Oh good you're awake. Put these on I invited someone over and I'd rather you not scare them away." Janus teased, throwing a black and green T shirt and dark jeans at a thankfully green boxer wearing Remus. "Jan please, we both know this isn't the first time someone's seen me half naked but if this is because you're trying to get a one night stand's hand in marriage then you have nothing to worry about-" Remus teased back putting on the clothes but was interrupted by a knock at the door.
"Right on time. You get the door and I'll get the snacks ready."
"Aye aye Captain." Remus playfully saluted and opened the door and was surprised to see a lightly blushing Virgil who was smiling softly at him the moment he locked eyes with him.
"Ree?"
Remus didn't know why or how but he instinctively slammed the door closed blushing and instantly jolted awake back in his bed catching his breath and rubbing his face.
'Holy shit that dream felt so real... I haven't seen Vee Vee since highschool and I'd be surprised if he somehow became even more hotter than that over the years... But why am I dreaming about him now?'
Remus wondered for a moment but shook his head brushing the thought off. He instead decided to get out of bed and walked to the same spot he saw Janus standing at before and was also thrown the oddly similar clothing he seen previously.
"Oh good you're awake. Put these on I invited someone over and I'd rather you not scare them away."
"Y'know what's funny? I had a dream where you said this exact same thing."
"Oh really Mr. Psychic? You didn't also happen to see the lotto numbers in that dream as well have you?" Janus teased which caused his fully dressed roommate to cackle. "I wish! Maybe we'll get lucky if I become a-" Remus' teasing was once again interrupted by the sound of someone knocking on the door. "Right on time. You get the door and I'll get the snacks ready."
The mustached man could only nod in response this time as he started to have a strange feeling about everything. He didn't know why Janus was saying the exact same things from what he thought was a dream but it certainly made him hesitate more on opening the door.
'Maybe the dream is wrong and it's really Romano or Patty? There's no way Vee Vee's here he moved away after highschool'
Remus took a deep breath and finally opened the door but immediately closed it out of shock this time when he saw Virgil again and jolted awake back in his bed.
'What the fuck is going on!?'
It takes a lot to freak out Remus and this is one of those moments. He didn't know if he was either in some sort of infinite dream and he can't wake up or if his roommate and Virgil were pulling a prank on him by knocking him out everytime he closed the door. Either way he wanted answers and to get those answers he needed to make sure if the door was causing this or not so he quickly ran out of his room and headed straight to the front door.
"Oh good you're- What are you doing?" A confused Janus asked as he watched his roommate repeatedly open and close the door.
"Uh... I farted and didn't want you to smell it?"
"Wow how generous of you for once. Now put these on I invited someone over and I'd rather you not scare them away."
'He would be if he saw how many times I've slammed the door in his face...'
"Uh huh got it." Remus replied quickly trying to get the clothes on as fast as possible.
"Are you feeling alright you're acting a little more odd than usual?"
"Mmhmm never better Bud! Now I really think you should-"
It was that knock again.
'He's here...'
"We'll talk about this later, but for now you get the door and I'll get the snacks ready."
"Yeah..."
Remus was really hoping for two things 1. That he somehow doesn't close the door again this time and 2. That seeing Virgil wasn't the cause of him waking up back in his bed. Truthfully he missed the Emo and desperately wanted to talk to him and see him again after all these years especially when he left so much things unsaid the last time he properly saw him. Remus took another deep breath and mentally gave himself a pep talk to not screw anything up and finally opened the door and was thankful he saw Virgil there.
"Ree?"
"Vee Vee hey! What are you doing here?"
"Jan invited me over cause I recently moved here. Is this the right place?"
"Yeah! Yeah this is the right place please come in." Remus opened the door wider and let Virgil inside and closed the door relieved that he's not back at his bed yet. He couldn't get over what the Emo just told him.
'He moved here... Meaning you can see him whenever you want and he's not gone forev-'
"Remus? Aren't you going to come sit with us?" Janus suddenly asked from the couch area which made Remus snap out of his thoughts. "Uh yeah sorry about that." Remus awkwardly chuckled and unintentionally sat on the other couch away from Virgil and was annoyed when he woke up back in his bed immediately after. He still couldn't figure out what was happening to him and why the day kept restarting until he suddenly had a realization.
'Okay... You're somehow stuck in a time loop... Definitely not the first weirdest shit to happen to you but it's definitely up there'
Now Remus' only problem was figuring out what was causing it in the first place. He knew it wasn't the door and he knew it wasn't from looking at Virgil but what he also knew was that he had to start everything over again and he did just that but this time he sat next to Virgil on the couch.
"So Virge, how have things been?" Janus asked, placing the plate of snacks on the table. "Things have actually been pretty good! I'm in a band and we don't start touring for another 2 years so I get to chill for a while now that I moved back here. Now I take it that this ball of chaos is your roommate now?" Virgil playfully poked Remus' cheek which caused the mustached man to do it back in return like old times. "Unfortunately yes." Janus teased.
While Janus and Virgil were still talking and catching up, Remus couldn't help but stare at the same hand that poked his cheek resting close to his. He desperately wanted to hold it and never let go but decided against it due to not wanting to act on his feelings and make everything weird especially since he didn't know if Virgil felt the same way let alone the fact that he just came back. One thing's for certain is that he instantly regretted moving his hand away because the moment he did he once again woke up back in his bed.
'Oh come the fuck on!'
The mustached man was starting to get more and more irritated by the time loop. He felt like he was both losing his mind and that it was testing his patience but he was noticing a pattern and he had to act fast to see if he was right about it. He quickly did everything again but once he opened the door and let Virgil in an idea popped into his head. Remus really hoped that this would work because if not he'd look like both an asshole and a dumbass.
"I don't like you and I want you to get the fuck out."
"...What?"
Virgil's frown felt like a knife to the chest for Remus and the disappointment in his roommate's voice after calling his name made it even worse but he instantly sighed in relief that it worked and he was back in his bed.
'Oh thank fuck that worked I would've freely had them both beat me up and set me on fire for that one'
Remus thought he figured it out and assumed that he was unintentionally being mean to Virgil and that was the cause for the loop to keep restarting but then the real answer finally hit him. He needed to confess his feelings to Virgil. It was the only logical answer for why his test worked and why it kept happening whenever he unknowingly was being distant with the Emo so the mustached man did what he needed to do. He got up out of bed, put on the clothes his roommate gave him, opened the door, got close to Virgil whenever he had the opportunity to and made sure to rest his hand on top of his and listen to everything he was saying. The three continued to chat until Janus suddenly stood up.
"I just remembered I got a 'Welcome Back' gift for you Virge."
"Aww nice to know that you've still been hanging around Patt while I was gone Bud." Virgil teased a playfully eye rolling Janus. "But seriously thanks."
"Of course, won't be long." Once his bowlet hat wearing roommate left the room, Remus knew it was the perfect moment and the only chance he had.
"Vee Vee I know this is probably very sudden but there's something I've been wanting to tell you for years now..." Remus started as he carefully held both of Virgil's hands. "What is it? Is everything okay?" Virgil asked holding back his anxiousness but relaxed more when he felt Remus rub his thumbs on the back of his hands.
"Yeah everything's alright it's just- God this is gonna sound so fucking cheezy but I wanted to tell you that I've liked you since the moment we met and I laid eyes on you... You're hot, you're funny, you're badass, you didn't give a shit about what chaotic and embarrassing thing I did and that only made me fall for you even harder over the years of us being best friends... I was gonna tell you on the day of graduation but I chickened out and I quite literally regret every waking moment of my life that I didn't tell you sooner but if this is weird because you don't feel the same we can-"
Remus couldn't believe it when he felt Virgil lunge forward and gave him a kiss that was filled with so much love and passion. The mustached man wanted this moment to last forever and he'll be damned if he woke back up in his bed because of the time loop so he pulled the Emo as close as possible returning the kiss as much as he could until they both pulled away to breathe.
"You idiot... You have no idea how long I've wanted you to say that."
"Wait really?"
"Ree of course really, I liked you since the day we met too. I hated that I had to immediately move away to college after graduation and leave you guys behind but in a way I'm kind of glad that I did cause it meant that I could see you again even if it was just a couple of years later."
"And just like that you've somehow managed to give me an even bigger heart boner for you. So does this mean we're boyfriend with benefits now~?" Remus smirked and wiggled his eyebrows teasing which made a blushing Virgil playfully push his face away. "Shut up but if that's your definition of you getting to hold me and kiss me breatheless then yes." "Good enough for me!" Remus cackled.
Before the two could lean in and kiss again they both jumped suddenly hearing the sound of Janus' voice. "Took you two long enough! Guess my plan worked after all." "What?" The two replied in confused unison. "You guys seriously think I would be dumb enough to sit through and deal with your pining asses for years and not use this opportunity to my advantage?" The bowler hat wearing man teased.
"You mean-"
"Yes I invited Virgil over the moment I heard about him moving back here because I knew you still missed him Remus... You two needed to confess one way or another and besides I think we can all agree that everything feels complete now with him back." "Definitely." Remus smiled and kissed Virgil softly. "So Jan about my 'Welcome Back' gift..." Virgil teased. "He's right here. You're welcome." Janus playfully patted both of their backs from behind the couch which caused the three to laugh.
Remus was glad that the rest of the day went by normally and he was certainly glad that seeing Virgil was no longer just for a day.
