Chapter Text

Upon arriving at Kalos, the 9-year-old Kantonese Boy was brought along the streets of Kalos with the leader of Team Flare, Lysander. It was that place where Satoshi found his first pokemon other than PIchu, a Froakie, that had abandoned his abusive trainer. Satoshi picked up the poor Pokemon and carried him gently with Pichu on his shoulder. He then tugged the sleeves of the seemingly ‘pure and kind-hearted’ leader of Team Flare with worry in his amber eyes. After all, the naive boy put all his trust into that man after he so-called ‘saved’ him from his neglectful household. 

“M-mister…” Satoshi looked at him with puppy-eyes as he held up the injured Froakie. “H-help him...”

Lysander gave a chuckle before ruffling the innocent boy’s hair with feigning concern and brought him back to their base to treat the Froakie. Satoshi stayed beside the healing Pokemon with Pichu in his hands with concern. Lysander pat his head gently, sugarcoating his words into sweet nothings, especially when Satoshi asked worriedly.

“H-hey Lysander…” 

“Hmm?”

“Why do people hurt Pokemon? Froakie is still quite young too… It did nothing wrong..” He mumbled as he stroked Pichu’s head. The red-haired man replied, with a sickening sweet voice. “This is a cruel world… Humankind has enveloped their own ego, forgetting about the needs of other creatures. As a result, nature is disrupted… Join me, my child. We'll recreate this world into what it was meant to be!”

Satoshi would not lie that he was moved by his words and with that the boy followed him as his admirer. Such a poor innocent boy to say the least. Soon, his Pichu evolved into a Pikachu which became his best buddy and the Froakie he had saved finally evolved into its final evolution on his 13th birthday during one of his requested battles with one of the members of Team Flare. Lysander watched the kid battle with pure amusement as his other henchmen were looking for Zygarde when suddenly…

BOOM

Satoshi and Greninja had achieved what seemed like a Mega Evolution but without the required Key Stone and a Mega Stone. Moreover, Greninja was not suitable for Mega Evolution. How is that possible?! Lysander chuckled to himself. This kid was something else. His bond with the only two pokemon made him quite in sync with them, resulting in that!

Lysander burst out laughing when Satoshi revealed the limitless possibilities with Pokemon and their trainer. He just needed such bond from that kid to finally achieve his cynical goals

TIMESKIP

Satoshi was standing on top of the Luminous Tower, terrified of the massive destruction the team had done to the city. Was this what he wanted? Tears began to well-up in his eyes. He thought Lysander wanted peace, not what this is… Anger rushed through the Kantonese boy’s veins as he ambushed the person he once trusted. 

“GRENINJA! USE WATER SHURIKEN! PIKACHU USE IRON TAIL TO BREAK ALAIN’S CHAINS!” Satoshi ordered as Lysander glared at him. The attack caused Lysander to slip and fall off the edge of Luminous Tower and to his impending doom. 

TIMESKIP

It was after the Kalos Crisis and construction had started. Satoshi tried to help with the rebuilding, guilt seeping in his veins. After all, he helped that man to do such destruction to the city. He could not help but feel traumatised too. So all that experiments done on him and Greninja was for that?! He stared into space unable to process his emotions. Satoshi was grateful that Professor Sycamore pulled him out from the rubble, instead of leaving him behind like any other vengeful person. He felt like he was in debt to the Professor’s kindness. Pikachu noticed his trainer’s dissatisfaction and worry before nuzzling into his arms, attempting to calm him down. When suddenly, Alain called him from the hallway. 

“Hey Ash! The Professor called you!” Alain yelled, jolting the Kantonese boy from his daze. Satoshi nodded and acknowledged it. As Satoshi walked through the hallways gloomily, Alain just sighed empathically. 

“Hey… It’s alright… It wasn’t your fault… You were just a kid… A victim to his words… Don’t think so much about the crisis…” Alain smiled softly as he placed a gentle hand on Satoshi’s shoulder. “It’s over now..”

Satoshi Ketchum gave a hum as he nodded sadly when he was brought to the lab where Professor Sycamore is located. He entered the room with Alain and Greninja (who walked behind them). He pets Pikachu’s head to calm himself down when he spotted the Professor with someone else?

“Ah Satoshi!’ The Professor grinned as he introduced the man beside him. “This is Professor Kukui from the Alola region… Now, I believe Kalos and perhaps even Kanto have taken a toll on your emotional and mental health… That’s why I think it would be great idea for you to experience a new environment like Alola… Professor Kukui would take good care of you!”

The Alolan Professor smiled, and that made Satoshi trust him. He could sense a pure and sincere soul behind those sparkling eyes and trusting smile. It was unlike what Lysander had given him for the past 3-4 years. Yet, the Kantonese boy was still wary about it. Professor Kukui noticed it and understood his wariness. So like any Alolan person would do, he tried to strike a conservation. 

“Is that your Pokemon Satoshi?” Satoshi nodded as he held Greninja’s hand tightly with Pikachu on his shoulder. “This is Pikachu and Greninja… They are quite protective… a-and I love them very much!” 

Professor Sycamore chuckled as he watched the Alolan Professor interact with the traumatised trainer. “Hey Ash… You can bring them along if you want… We can settle the rebuilding ourselves…”

Satoshi nodded as he went to his temporary room to pack the necessities while Professor Sycamore gave Professor Kukui ,Satoshi’s identification documents. Before the two left, Satoshi gave Alain a hug and congratulated him for being the Kalos League champion once again before following Professor Kukui with Pikachu and Greninja.

Chapter Text

 At the Alolan Airport, Greninja got out of his Pokeball and grumbled as his trainer giggled. While Professor was booking a cab to his home, Satoshi waited patiently with Pikachu in his arms, trying to calm the water/dark-type Pokemon as Pikachu teased him. Greninja was huffing away. 

 “Gren, Greninja! (How come that Electric mouse doesn't have to enter its pokeball while I have to?!)” Greninja grumbled as Satoshi patted his head. He tried to explain. “Well, Pikachu can sit on my lap throughout the plane ride while you need another seat and a plane ticket… I-i don’t want the Professor to buy another ticket… So it’s more convenient for you to stay in your Pokeball… B-besides you know how much Pikachu hates being in its Pokeball” 

 Greninja could not stay mad at his trainer’s shy eyes and just sighed, hoping that Satoshi would not worry about his frustration. Pikachu laughed as he jumped onto Greninja’s head and cooed. It was funny to see the two interact. Satoshi was laughing softly when Professor Kukui approached them, informing them that their ride was here. 

During the ride, Satoshi looked through the window, enjoying the sunlight Alola had to offer. It was calming to him, compared to Kalos. It was definitely some therapeutic ointment for the traumatised 13 year-old Kantonese boy. Professor Kukui noticed how Satoshi was admiring the Alolan environment with his Pokemon and chuckled. He attempted to ruffle his hair but stopped when Satoshi flinched from the sudden touch and Pikachu went on full alert. The Professor sighed and retracted back his hand. That red-haired man surely had done something to the poor boy back then. 

“Alola is nice, am I right?” Kukui started the conversation. Satoshi turned to look at him and nodded hesitantly. “Y-yea… The people are so nice… Compared to Kanto or Kalos…”

“Well, we didn’t earn the nicest people award for nothing,” The professor smiled, while Satoshi giggled before looking back at the scenery. The taxi driver stopped at their location, a simple beach house with an extraordinary view of the sea. Satoshi was amazed by the nice change of environment instead of being stuck in that lab, with all those machines beeping and needles… not the needles. Pikachu noticed its trainer's blank yet sad expression and nuzzled into his chest. The Pokemon's naturally warm body temperature calmed the Kantonese boy down while Greninja just ruffled its trainer's hair, earning some soft giggles from the young boy. Professor Kukui watched the interaction between Satoshi and his Pokemon and smiled sadly. All three of them were under Lysander's manipulation back then in Kalos and they had nobody other than themselves. It was a great sight to see humans and Pokemon with such close bonds. It was what the Professor wanted to see in the future generations.

“Hey Sato!” The Alolan Professor called. Satoshi turned around and walked back to where the beach house was. He mumbled softly, clearly confused about the nickname. “Sato?”

“Sorry, you don't like the nickname, kiddo?” Kukui rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. Satoshi shook his head. “N-no! It's fine! I like it…”

Kukui grinned as he opened the door for the kid who would be staying at his place for the time being. He introduced Satoshi to Rockruff, a wild Pokemon who just happened to follow him back home. Satoshi gently picked up the puppy Pokemon and was immediately met with licks and nuzzling. Satoshi let out a childish laugh, something that hadn't been heard over 3-4 years from him. Kukui then showed him the loft, where Satoshi would be sleeping, since the house unfortunately has one bedroom. There was ample space for Greninja and Pikachu to rest too. It was a better sleeping place than whatever cell Lysander had put them in when Ash turned 12… 

Kukui had prepared some sandwiches and Pokemon food for Satoshi and his Pokemon since it's been a couple of hours since they ate something. The other reason was that he wanted to observe the damage inflicted on the boy when Lysander took ‘care’ of him. And just like his prediction, Satoshi suffered a lot. The boy was munching on the sandwiches as if he was starved of days, or even weeks. Second thing that the Alolan Professor had noticed was that sudden movements will cause the boy to flinch and back up slightly. This was noticed when Kukui raised his arms to stretch. The last thing that Kukui had noticed was the needle scars all over the 13 year-old Kantonese boy’s arms (which Satoshi failed to hide) and how he was ‘slightly’ afraid of Rockruff’s sharp teeth. Lysander dropped that fake fatherly act when Satoshi reached a certain age. Moreover, Satoshi found it easier to trust Pokemon than humans, it was understandable as he grew up with the worst kind of humans, (an alcoholic neglectful mother and a hypocritical father figure). For now, that was what Professor Kukui had noticed. 

The Alolan Professor had a sudden fatherly feeling to take good care of the traumatized parentless boy, but he couldn't just do it overnight or just suddenly… It required time and patience for Satoshi to open up, plus with that boy's Pokemon being extremely protective (most likely due to the similar experience), there was no say when the boy would open up to him. Whatever it was, Kukui was willingly patient about it. After all, he wanted to be his father figure and he'll make sure the boy is sheltered with care…

It took at least a month for Satoshi and his two Pokemon to finally trust him, considering the years of pain suffering the boy had to go through, it was surprisingly early. Maybe it's because Kukui ensured that Satoshi’s personal space is respected or when Kukui always asked for his opinions/ permission instead of just shoving it in his face. Or perhaps it was Kukui’s warm smile that was not sugar coated like Lysander's, or even the fact that Kukui never raised his voice when Satoshi accidentally made a mistake, like dropping a plate, unlike his own mother. Whatever it was, Satoshi could finally put his trust into the Professor, and the same could be applied to his Pokemon. He was grateful for the man's patience for him, and hoped that it would stay the same for upcoming years.

Chapter Text

“Oh Ash…” Satoshi whimpered when he heard that voice. He hated that nickname whenever he said it. The Kantonese boy was in pure darkness, yet he felt eyes all over him, hands touching him in places where he felt uncomfortable. Satoshi felt everything. It was overwhelming… 

Where were his Pokemon? Why was he alone in this never ending darkness? He felt extremely uncomfortable and could not shout, his voice being muffled by those familiar hands. Satoshi felt himself get pinned by someone. No… no… Not him . Get him off me! Satoshi tried to yell but he was immediately choked by the rough hands of that man . Satoshi cried when he heard that voice again, but this time it was closer to him, as if he was on top of him, pinning him down with the intention of doing malicious things to him. Make it stop ! Get off me ! Stop ! What are you doing ?! Satoshi sobbed as the man whispered into his ears.

“I know you like it… Ash~” The voice in his ears purred with such a sugar coated voice. Satoshi hates that! He hated how his nickname was said by him… And the next thing he knew, he fell down into the endless void, only to find himself in the same lab, with beeping machines, sharp needles, and grinning faces. He yelped before screaming in pain when a needle was inserted without any anesthesia. It was withdrawing too much blood for the young boy to handle, which as a result he passed out… But before that he heard from that very same voice, like he had found something new.

“He has some of Arceus' DNA! No wonder he could understand Pokemon with ease! This was the Chosen One! And he's all mine!!” 

Satoshi felt all eyes on him again. He had a huge responsibility because of that title Chosen One . And he felt like he had failed that. Satoshi could feel all the eyes of the Kalosian people on him, with vengeance and hate… But it wasn't his fault… right? RIGHT? Satoshi could feel himself crying when a warm creature was trying to wake him up. Satoshi then found himself in a new environment. It wasn't Team Flare's secret hideout… It wasn't the Luminous Tower… It was the loft in Alola. He sat up and wiped his never-ending tears. Greninja had gotten up to tell the Professor while Pikachu tried to calm him down…

“Hey Sato… You alright, kiddo? Greninja woke me up when you suddenly screamed…” Kukui asked worriedly. Why was he even asking? The kid wasn’t fine. It must be a nightmare. Kukui gave a soft, gentle smile as he slowly approached Satoshi, ensuring that the boy’s personal space was respected. He did not want to rush it, especially when he was all overwhelmed. Yet, Satoshi, without hesitation, hugged Kukui like his life depended on it. 

“May I pat your head?” The Alolan professor asked gently and once he had gotten his permission, Kukui slowly stroked his hands through the boy’s hair. Satoshi nuzzled closer, letting his tears stain his cheeks…

“I saw him again! I saw him again! I felt his eyes all over me! He’s after me !” Satoshi bawled, not caring that the Professor’s shirt was soaked. “ Make it stop ! P-please!”

Kukui wiped his tears and softly comforted him. “Sato… Take a deep breath… Count with me, alright… There, there… See, you are nowhere near him… Don’t worry Sato, he can’t get close to you… I’ll make sure of that..” 

Satoshi felt the Professor’s warmth and gradually calmed down, from loud pained sobs to soft sniffles. Kukui asked whether he could pick him up and once Satoshi gave his approval, the professor carried him down from the loft and gently set him down on the soft couch in the living room. “Hot chocolate usually helps me with nightmares when I was younger… Would you like some, kiddo?” 

A hesitant nod came from him as Greninja and Pikachu surrounded the overwhelmed boy. 

“Alright… Pikachu, Greninja take care of him while I prepare some…” 

Pikachu nuzzled in its trainer’s arms, allowing his natural warm body to give him some comfort while Greninja tried to comfort him through their Bond Phenomenon, just in time for Kukui to bring out 2 mugs of Alolan Hot Chocolate. It was packed with a fruity flavour, which paired wonderfully with the warm milky chocolate. Satoshi could not help but feel comforted by the sweet sugary taste while the Professor played a gentle tune with his guitar, humming a soft lullaby just like how his mother would do whenever Kukui had a nightmare. As the boy yawned softly, Kukui did not mind him sleeping on his lap while his Pokemon surrounded him. 

This was his son… And he will free him from all that trauma that the other adults had implemented on him… He will be his dad from now on…

TIMESKIP

It was another bright, sunny day in Alola. The warm rays of sunlight woke the 13-year-old boy up. He yawned as he rubbed his eyes, while the Professor was preparing breakfast for him, with the help of Greninja of course. 

“Ah, you’re awake Sato, come have breakfast with us…” Kukui smiled as he set down two bowls of Pokémon food and a plate of sandwiches with cut fruits. Satoshi thanked him softly as he took a sandwich. Kukui chuckled as he swirled his cup of coffee, watching the boy eat just fine, especially after that traumatic nightmare.

“Today, we are going shopping, to get you some things of course,” Kukui told him his plans while the boy chugged down the glass of orange juice. “Afterwards, we can have lunch at one of my future student’s restaurant…”

TIMESKIP (cus I type like how I use C.ai lmao)

The two spent about 4 hours buying clothes and other necessities for Satoshi. Afterall, his current outfit was not really suitable for the Alolan sunny and humid climate. So they got some T-shirts and cargo pants (since Satoshi was practically insecure about his legs, which the Professor understood of course), before heading out to Aina’s Kitchen, one of the best places to enjoy Alolan cuisine.

“Alola!” The professor greeted as he entered the seemingly empty restaurant, since it was a weekday and people were still working. It was a great timing for Satoshi who gets easily overwhelmed. Mallow and Lana who were playing together greeted their next year sensei who would be teaching them when they enter the Secondary level. The pair noticed the boy who was peeking behind Kukui with Pikachu in his arms and Greninja following him. 

“WOW! A GRENINJA!” Lana was elated as she was amazed by the sight of the Water/dark type ninja Pokémon. “A KALOSIAN WATER-TYPE POKEMON!”

“Hey! Hey! What’s your name?” Mallow asked excitedly while trying to hold her friend from jumping onto Greninja. While Kukui was seated at a table for 2, Satoshi whispered softly. “S-satoshi… B-but you can call me Sato or Ash…”

Kukui chuckled at the sight of his kiddo finally interacting with other people of his age instead of hiding behind him. Satoshi looked at Kukui with worry but gave a smile when the professor encouraged him t0 befriend them. 

“Now, Mallow and Lana, this is your new classmate…” Kukui introduced Satoshi further. “He’ll join your class next year just like the rest of you,”

While Satoshi had finished his meal and was waiting for the Professor to finish, he decided to join the pair who were playing some sort of game.

“Hi Sato! Would you like to join us?” A nod. “Can I pat your Pikachu?”

Satoshi nodded hesitantly as Mallow petted the Pokémon’s head while Lana was mesmerized by Greninja. She tugged Satoshi’s arm. “May I pet Greninja?”

“I-if Greninja allows…” Satoshi shrugged while Mallow laughed when Pikachu made funny faces. Of course, the water/dark type Pokémon kneeled down to allow Lana to pet him. Satoshi just giggled when Greninja gave a soft hum. Kukui watched them befriend his foster son before continuing his conversation with Mallow’s father, with his heart at ease when Satoshi made new friends slowly. It definitely would not be long till Satoshi finally opens up, especially with Alola’s friendly nature.

"Now say goodby to Mallow and Lana... We're heading back home now... You can play together next time" Kukui gave a smile as he gently held Satoshi's hand. Satoshi gave a small wave while Mallow and Lana excitedly gave their goodbyes. While walking back to the Professor's beach house, Kukui asked his kiddo gently, "How was it?"

"It was fun... I can't wait to join them next year..." Satoshi gave a childish, innocent response. 

"I'm glad..."

Chapter Text

Today was one of the few days where Kukui had to go on a research trip somewhere where Satoshi couldn’t follow, so Satoshi was staying with Mallow until the professor came back. The two were enjoying some freshly cut fruits on the restaurant’s porch when a flying thing came crashing into them. Thankfully, the two of them managed to dodge to avoid collision. Satoshi peered at the ‘thing’ that had crashed, only to find that it was a dehydrated Pokemon. 

“Mallow? What Pokemon is this?” Satoshi asked, looking at the round, cute, fluffy-looking flying type. Pikachu and Greninja were also curious about the new Pokemon they had encountered. Mallow dusted off her pants and picked up Bounsweet who had fallen from the railing of the porch before replying to him. 

“Oh, that’s a Rowlet… Native to the Alola region,” She answered as she worried about the Pokemon’s condition. “It seems dehydrated… Sato, would you mind bringing Rowlet in while I grab some cold water from the refrigerator?” 

Satoshi nodded as he gently picked up the exhausted Pokemon, like how he would when he found his Froakie. He smiled as he felt how soft Rowlet’s feathers were. 

“It’s so soft!” He squealed as he laid Rowlet on the table, gently sitting it while Mallow brought a bottle of water to its beak, slowly pouring the contents. Afterwards, they fed Rowlet some replenishing berries to help its energy. 

“Yea! Its feathers are so soft!” Mallow giggled as Rowlet cooed, being petted by the two teenagers, before immediately grabbing a fruit and flying away into the forest.

“We should follow it!” Mallow suggested as she ran out, grabbing Satoshi’s wrist, pulling him with her into the forest. 

“Isn’t it Dangerous?” Satoshi whined, holding onto Pikachu and Bounsweet while Greninja followed behind. Mallow grinned. “Your Greninja can protect us! Besides, you should feel more adventurous!”

Adventurous… That was something Satoshi hadn’t experienced for quite a long time, especially after being brought into Team Flare. He hadn’t felt his childlike curiosity for so long, considering that he was trapped in some sort of cell growing up and would often get punished for wandering about. He wanted to feel like a kid he was before all the problems crashed onto him. He grinned at the thought of adventuring again and laughed before looking at Greninja and Pikachu. 

“You two will protect us, won’t you?” 

“Pika!”

“Gren!”

Mallow grinned as Bounsweet jumped onto her shoulder. “That’s the Spirit! Besides we need to pass the time before Lana comes back from fishing,”

Satoshi nodded as they stopped running when they came across a large nest containing Pikipek, Trumbeak and a Toucannon. Rowlet landed on the nest, dropping the fruit into the nest before earning praise from Trumbeak. Satoshi and Mallow were amazed how organised the flock of birds were. There were dedicated nests for each evolution. 

“Woah! It’s a cute happy family!” Mallow squealed as Rowlet flew towards them. The two sat down underneath a large tree, beside the nest. Satoshi leaned on Greninja while Mallow fed Bounsweet some water before giggling. 

“I wished I had a happy family like that,” Satoshi turned to look at her, noticing that Mallow was staring at the family of Pikipek, Trumbeak and Toucannon, whilst taking out her snack

“D-don’t you not have one?” He asked softly, gaining Mallow’s attention. “Y-your father seems to care a lot about you…”

Mallow nodded as she offered Satoshi half of her Malasada.  “Yea, but ever since mom passed away… He seems so… distant and busy at the restaurant… but deep down, he’s trying his best. What about you, Sato?”

Satoshi thought about it deeply. Was his mother ever nice to him after his father left? That was difficult to answer. She was always drunk and never really paid attention to his needs. When the boy had a nightmare, she never woke up and even if she did, Satoshi was not met with comfort but a cold hard glare from her. Her cold drunk words were like knives piercing through his young heart. He did not want to remember her anymore. Satoshi would rather get adopted by the professor than her, especially with how quickly he warmed up to him. 

Mallow noticed that her friend was zoning out from the question. She smiled worriedly. “You don't need to answer the question… You might not be comfortable answering and I get it! It's alright… I have friends like that too!”

Satoshi heaved a sigh of relief as he got up. He was not ready to mention anything about his family issues. “We should probably head back. Lana is probably waiting for us- oh hey Rowley,”

Rowley flew into his arms and snuggled into them. Satoshi felt his heart flutter in child-like excitement when the bird indicated that it wanted to be caught by him, only him. Mallow giggled when her friend was speechless and silently jumping in joy. Satoshi hugged his new found friend. 

“I-i’ll ask the Professor for a PokeBall! Pikachu, Greninja… Meet our new friend!” He squealed as he lifted up the fluffy bird. Rowley trilled comfortably in his hands as Satoshi's other Pokemon cooed around them.

Timeskip

Lana appeared at Mallow's doorstep with a new Pokemon in her hands. 

“Look guys! I got a Popplio!” She giggled as she showcased her newly caught Pokemon. “I rescued her from some bullies with my fishing rod,”

“Woah Lana! That’s very heroic of you!” Satoshi acknowledged her brave efforts and gently gave her a pat on the back while Mallow fed Popplio some berries to help her heal. Satoshi showed Rowlet to his blue-haired friend who cooed at the sight of the round bird. She commented with a teasing voice. “Rowlet is cute but Popplio is cuter.”

An offended yet teasing ‘HEY!’ was heard from the boy as Lana giggled and got chased around the table by Satoshi. Mallow took out a box of trinkets and sighed when she watched the two chase each other. 

“Stop it you two!” She grumbled. “Let’s make keychains!”

TIMESKIP (I’m lazy and want to move on to the next chap :[)

Kukui knocked on the door and Mallow’s father called the trio. “Ash! The professor is here!”

Satoshi excitedly got up and rushed to him, holding Rowlet in his hands and Pikachu on his shoulder while Greninja was trying to escape Lana’s grasp. He seems to have a lot of energy and excitement, his smile shining so bright. Something that genuine had not been seen for years, according to some people. Satoshi asked Kukui with a child-like glee. 

“Professor! Do you have a Pokeball? For Rowlet?”

“Oh yea, I see. Rowlet chose you as its trainer. Wonderful!”

Kukui gave the Kantonese boy a Pokeball as he ruffled his hair. Satoshi lightly tapped the ball on Rowlet’s head, catching it in total. He smiled widely as he released the Pokemon from its Pokeball and nuzzled himself in Rowlet’s soft feathers. 

“Welcome to the Family, Rowlet!” He grinned. Kukui watched how the boy interacted with his Pokemon and smiled softly when he saw the child that had been lost for years, trapped under the rubble of abuse and trauma. He sighed in relief. Satoshi was healing. That meant that Kukui was doing something right. After waving goodbye to Mallow and Lana, Satoshi held Kukui’s hand as they walked back to the Professor’s home. Pikachu was resting on Satoshi’s head while Rowlet was asleep in the boy’s backpack. Greninja walked beside Satoshi, holding the boy’s other hand.

“So how was it, kiddo?” Kukui asked, as they enjoyed the warm glow of the sun setting. Satoshi smiled as he recalled what they did, mentioning that Lana saved a Popplio from a group of bad people and how he and Mallow came across a family of Pikipek, Trumbeak and Toucannon. A family huh…

“Professor, must a family be blood related?” Satoshi suddenly asked. Kukui looked at him with empathy and shook his head. 

“That’s just what most people would say… However, some people don’t have a good family and that defeats the word ‘family’ which means to have a loving and united relation with your loved ones. Those people search for ‘Found Family’ or Families of choice. That is when one prefers their friends or another person looking after them rather than their biological one…” 

“So it’s like asking someone to adopt you?”

“Somewhat like that. But I believe that families need to have love, support, communication, trust, and shared values. Having a strong family unit provides emotional support, a sense of belonging, stability, and fosters the development of important life skills and values, no matter if it is biological or found family.”

“So can you adopt me, Professor?”

Kukui choked on his Saliva when he heard the boy say that all of the sudden. Sure, he might be his father figure or at least his caretaker but did Satoshi really trust him that much and enjoyed being under his care that he wanted to be his son? He never expected that question to be that early. Kukui turned to look at the boy who looked back with innocent eyes. He gave in to that. After all, he did promise Professor Sycamore to be the guiding light for the outcast boy and he promised himself that he’ll take care of Satoshi, even if it cost him his final breath. A self-sacrificing promise to say the least, but Kukui had grown to love the kid as his own son. Of course, he would do that. The two of the got onto the porch of the beach house while Kukui kneeled down to Satoshi’s height and gave him a hug. 

“Of course, kiddo…”

Tears welled up in Satoshi’s eyes as he cried in joy. 

“Thank you… Dad…”

It was the first day of the new school year. The older students rushed to school to meet up with their friends after the term break while the newer ones hesitantly entered the school compound. Satoshi was one of the newer ones. To him, Alola Pokemon School was a whole new vibe compared to those he took part in Kanto. Let’s just say the vibe was more welcoming. He held Pikachu like a stress reliever, almost overwhelmed by the amount of people. To be fair, he did had to report to school earlier than Kukui, his foster Professor father. Greninja followed closely behind him, ensuring that its trainer was safe and it caught the attention of many students. Well, it was understandable since Greninja was not a native Pokemon to the Alola Region, so it brought unwanted attention towards Satoshi. The Kantonese boy skittishly bowed and walked away hurriedly when he finally spotted Mallow and Lana calling his name. 

Satoshi greeted his friends shyly while the other two smiled when they noticed his uneasiness. 

“First day am I right?” Mallow grinned as she playfully slapped his back. “Don’t worry! We’ll help you make more friends in no time! Everyone in Alola is nice and kind! No need to fret Sato!”

Lana grabbed his wrist and dragged him to their classroom where the other students had already arrived. “It is a class of 6 and you just so happen to be our 6th classmate, Sato!” 

There were three other students who were busy talking about how their holidays were spent. 

“Alola guys!” Lana and Mallow greeted the others in unison, carrying their Pokemon while Satoshi hid behind Mallow and bowed slightly. The white hair girl, who happened to be wearing a sun hat, excitedly greeted them back and gave both of them some trinkets she had made during the holidays. The other two male students approached Satoshi and accidentally scared him with their tense aura and overwhelming questions, causing them to be struck by Greninja’s water shuriken and Pikachu’s thunderbolt. 

“Guys! Don’t scare Sato like that! Give him some space!” Mallow huffed when the Professor entered the classroom. The class quickly got to their desk before greeting their new professor. 

“Alola students!”

“Alola Professor Kukui!”

Kukui looked at the excited faces of his new students and chuckled when he saw his son’s worried expression. 

“I’m sure you guys know each other from last year, but this year we have a new student from the Kanto region.”

Murmurs filled the classroom as Mallow and Lana quietly cheered on their Kantonese friend who got to the front of the classroom for introduction. Kukui nodded reassuringly as he silenced the class before speaking. 

“This is Satoshi Ketchum, he is from the Kanto region. Everyone, do make sure to welcome him. Now, kiddo why don’t you tell them more about yourself?”

“O-oh… My name is Satoshi b-but you can call me Sato or Ash… This is Pikachu, Greninja and Rowlet… We were recently from the Kalos region a-and… I hope we can get along…” Kukui noticed Satoshi’s mumbling when he mentioned the Kalos region and sighed. He ruffled his hair to cheer him up before adding on. “Satoshi here is my foster son, so please take care of him when I’m not around!”

“OF COURSE PROFESSOR!” They cheered. Kukui gave them some time so that they could introduce themselves to Satoshi. They all gathered around Satoshi’s desk and introduced themselves one by one (except Mallow and Lana ofc, he knew them).

“Alola Satoshi! I’m Kiawe! This is Turtonator!” Kiawe introduced both himself and his Pokemon. “My family owns a farm. You should visit us at Akala island if you can!”

Satoshi smiled before noticing a watch-like thing on Kiawe’s wrist. He pointed to it as he took out his. “O-oh! I’ve seen it before! It’s a Z-ring right?”

“Oh this? Yup! This is a Z-ring! Something that can only be found in the Alolan culture. Paired with a Z-crystal, one is able to unleash a move so strong with the bond of their Pokemon! I could show it to you later if you want!” Kiawe said smugly as the boy looked at him with eyes of wonder. “Say where did you get yours from?” 

“Oh… Tapu Koko gave it to me… But I-i don’t have a Z-crystal…” 

“W-WHAT??? IS THAT TRUE PROFESSOR?!” A nod from Kukui answered his question. They were actually strolling through the forest when Tapu Koko threw Oran berries at them to get their attention before throwing a Z-ring at Satoshi, accidentally hitting the poor boy’s forehead. The legendary guardian of Alola immediately fled after that.

Kiawe was in shock. Who knew the boy had such honour and blessing from one of the legendary island guardians?! Lana pushed Kiawe onto a chair so that he could re-collect his thoughts and opinions about her friend. “Moving on!”

“A-ah! I’m Sophocles!”

“S-sopho- uh…” Satoshi had difficulty pronouncing such name with his Kantonese accent. 

“Soph will suffice!” The boy tried to reassure. “This is Togedemaru! She seems to like your Pikachu a lot… but anyways, I invent quite a lot of things!”

“Woah! That’s so cool!” 

“Hehe… I know right!”

The white haired girl approached Satoshi’s desk when Pikachu suddenly jumped on the table, scaring her in the process. Mallow and Lana sighed as they caught their near-fainting friend. 

“Lillie here is scared of Pokemon for unknown reasons… We tried to ask her brother about it but he didn’t answer us…” Lana muttered as they apologized. 

“It’s a-alright…” Satoshi reassured before gently nagging Pikachu. “Please don’t scare people like that…”

“Pikapi…” Pikachu’s guilty face made Greninja snicker and the electric mouse Pokemon zapped him and accidentally hit Rowlet who was asleep on top of , out of embarrassment, which Satoshi immediately nagged again. 

The others watched how the Kantonese boy interact with his Pokemon in amusement. 

“They are like siblings… So close with each other!”

“ Sigh If only I was that close with Pokemon too…”

“It’s alright Lillie! We’ll help you overcome your fear soon!”

“Thanks I suppose!”

TIMESKIP

The class was dismissed and Satoshi was waiting for his foster father to finish packing up. He was brushing Pikachu’s fur as Greninja leaned on him. Kukui smiled at the sight as he called his son that he was ready to leave. While walking home with a snack, Satoshi commented something about the class.

“They are very enthusiastic… So much warm energy radiates from their smiles. Even Lillie, who is scared of touching Pokemon, seems very passionate about them…” 

“Mhm… That’s your classmates alright…” Kukui took another bite of his malasadas, watching his foster son give a piece to Greninja and Rowlet. “You know… You’re quite close to your Pokemon, especially Pikachu and Greninja.”

Satoshi gave a hum in agreement as he leaned on Greninja, tiredly. Kukui noticed his exhaustion and chuckled. 

“Do you want a piggyback ride home?” 

"Mhm.."

Satoshi nodded tiredly as Kukui lifted him up onto his back, being extra mindful of the scars on his arms. Greninja returned to its Pokeball while Pikachu walked beside them, carrying his backpack, containing a sleeping Rowlet. (quite a stronk Pikachu lmao). Upon reaching home, Kukui laid Satoshi gently on the mattress on the loft before going to his room to sleep.

As per planned, they headed to Lillie’s house after picking up Satoshi from Kukui’s house. The white-haired girl followed by a blonde haired boy who seemed slightly older than the group by 2 years. Mallow and Lana waved while Satoshi followed behind them timidly, whilst holding Greninja’s hand.

“Alola Lillie and Gladion!” They chirped, well Mallow and Lana said it so fluently while Satoshi fumbled with his words. “A-alola… sorry to intrude…”

“It’s alright Ash,” Lillie smiled as she invited the trio into her home before introducing her emo brother. “This is Gladion. Gladion, meet my new classmate! He’s from the Kanto region,”

Gladion turned to look at the boy waving shyly beside the water\dark- type Pokemon. His heart began to flutter. The boy looked and sounded cute to him. Plus with Lillie’s description about how Satoshi behaves, Gladion’s heart beats louder. While the girls were busy picking a suitable nail-polish for Satoshi, Gladion took the opportunity to text his sister privately at the corner of the room. Lillie felt her phone buzzing and smirked as she opened it.

Lillie chuckled as she put down her phone watching how Mallow was filing Satoshi’s nails while Lana picked out a colour that would suit the boy. Lillie commented something about his physique, mentioning along the lines of cute and adorable, making the boy blush in embarrassment. Satoshi tried to brush it off when the girls pulled him into the wardrobe to dress him up. Gladion could hear the ruckus from the living room and waited patiently for his sister to finish her shenanigans.

“Take off the arm sleeves!” He could hear Mallow huffing, along with Satoshi's whining and complaints (which sounded cute to him).

“Maybe he's insecure about his arms!” Gladion heard his sister nagged, followed by the sounds of pouting.

“If that's the case! Long sleeves!” He could hear Lana suggesting. Whatever it was, he was sure it was some sort of plan that would put him off guard and his assumptions were right. Satoshi stepped out from the wardrobe in a dress, something straight from a cottage core vibe. Gladion felt his face heating up when Satoshi adjusted his puffy sleeves and pinafore. He could hear the girl group snickering, alongside Pokemon laughter. Pikachu jumped onto Satoshi's shoulder and ruffled itself into the wig the girls had put on for him, while Greninja held his backpack (where Rowlet was sleeping) , earning a head pat from its trainer

“We’re going shopping now! And Satoshi has to wear it until the end of the day!” Mallow snickered as Satoshi just nodded embarrassingly before noticing Gladion’s red face.

“A-are you alright Gladion?” He asked, concerned about the boy's red face. “Y-you're heating up…”

Gladion gently slapped Satoshi's hand away when the Kantonese boy tried to put it on his forehead. He brushed it off, mumbling. “I’m fine really…”

Lillie nudged him, giving her brother a knowing look before giggling away with her group. Satoshi just blinked innocently with confusion displayed on his face. Lana snickered as they got ready for a shopping spree, (since the Aether siblings are rich af). They got into the chauffeured car. After a while they reached the town square, full of tourists, boutiques and shops, displaying the Alolan culture. Satoshi was amazed by how lively and colourful the place was.

Gladion smiled softly upon noticing his crush's joy when it came to exploring new things. The girls dragged them to a popular shop that sells accessories.

“Alolan Sunrise? What's that?” Satoshi asked as he followed them. The girl group giggled before explaining.

“It's an accessory shop! It is made out of natural and sustainable resources with a hint of Alolan culture!” Lana explained as they arrived at the store. Lillie noticed that her brother was still staring and blushing at Satoshi. She snickered before poking her brother's cheek while the others were busy picking out their charms.

Gladion huffed at his sister's actions before she left to talk to her friends. Gladion took the courage to talk to Satoshi, who just so happened to be looking at keychains.

“Look, Pikachu!” He grinned as he took out an acrylic keychain with a beautiful art of a Pikachu. Pikachu let out a squealed while Greninja got jealous.

“Gren? (Is there one of me?)” It asked as Satoshi searched before pulling out a froakie design. He chuckled. “How about this?”

“Greninja, (close enough)”

“There's a Rowlet one too!” Satoshi grinned as he turned back to look at the other designs. “We should get one for dad! But what should we choose…”

Gladion watched the boy talk to his Pokemon with a soft blush. That was so wholesome! (To him ofc). The fact that Satoshi was able to communicate with his Pokemon without having to play a game of charades, honestly shows how bonded he was to his Pokemon. That just proved how remarkable a trainer he was. He took the courage and approached them.

“Hey Satoshi…” He tried to sound friendly instead of his usual monotone voice. Satoshi turned around and gave a smile.

“Ah Gladion! Feeling better?”

“I guess so… Anyways, what are you getting?” Gladion asked, trying to ignore the fact that Satoshi looked cute in the dress and the constant snickering from his sister and her friends. Satoshi shrugged, mentioning that he wanted to get one for Professor Kukui. Gladion offered to help pick one.

“Doesn't the Professor have a Rockruff?”

“Rockruff isn't really caught by dad… It just kinda followed him home after dad fed him,” Satoshi explained.

“I'm sure he doesn't mind having a Rockruff keychain,” Gladion shrugged as he took one out. Satoshi nodded before getting it, alongside with a Pikachu, Froakie and Rowlet designs.

Satoshi thanked Gladion for his suggestion as he paid for his keychains. He put them in the front pocket before giving his Pokemon the Pokebeans he had gotten before coming here. The two boys waited for the girls to finish their shopping. Gladion watched his crush trying to stop Pikachu and Greninja from bickering and blushed again.

“Guys we're done! Let's take a photo of our purchases!” Mallow giggled as they took a selfie, holding up their items. Gladion did not notice his furious blush when he was pushed towards Satoshi and the camera caught it. They then spent the next hour at the Malasada cafe for tea before going their separate ways.

Satoshi knocked on the door and opened it to see his foster father sitting down and watching the news.

“Alolan dad!” He chirped as he greeted Kukui.

“Alolan kiddo!” The professor smiled back as his son sat beside him, taking out something.

“This is for you!” He grinned childishly as he took out the Rockruff keychain and gave it to him. Rockruff jumped onto his lap and admired the keychain, barking happily.

Kukui took the keychain gratefully and attached it to his key ring before ruffling his son's hair. “Thank you so much, Sato! Say, why were you in a dress?”

“Dad!! Where did you get that picture?!”

News about the class going to the Kanto region for the Pokemon school anniversary quickly made the class jump in joy except one. Since the class was going to meet Professor Oak, they were going to be in Pallet Town. Pallet Town… Satoshi had not heard that town name for so long ever since his mother…

Kukui noticed how quiet his adopted son was when the other classmates were cheering away. He sat beside the boy, who was busy processing his emotions and just ruffled his hair for comfort. That snapped Satoshi out of his never ending thoughts. His face showed that he wasn’t ready to go back there, but Kukui gave an understanding smile.

“I-i don’t want to see her… Not when I’m happier now…” Satoshi mumbled as Kukui gave a soft hum.

“I’ll make sure she doesn’t touch or be close to you…” He reassured his son, giving Satoshi a hug while his Pokemon gathered around him worriedly. “I’ll be following, so don’t worry about it…”

Satoshi nodded before giving a gentle nod, indicating that he was willing to go on behalf of Kukui. The class was soon dismissed and everyone rushed out to pack their bags for tomorrow. Well, almost everyone, Satoshi was patiently waiting for his professor father to finish his work. He decided to brush Lycanroc’s fur and make sure that Greninja and Pikachu won’t fight again for his attention. Kukui whistled to get his son’s attention.

“Ready to go Sato?”

“Mhm…” Satoshi nodded as he caught up. Kukui noticed how deep in thought Satoshi was and just patted his head, comforting the poor boy, “It’s alright…”

TIMESKIP

The class gathered at the airport, ready to visit a region that most of them hadn’t been to. Kukui was checking them in and the students waited at the seating area, watching Satoshi trying to get Greninja in its Pokeball. Lillie brushed Snowy’s soft white fur while Kiawe and Sophocles were snickering when Satoshi nagged at Pikachu and Greninja. After a good 5 minutes of bickering, Greninja hesitantly went inside its Pokeball, while Pikachu rested on his shoulder.

“Watching you bicker with your Pokemon never ceases to entertain me, especially between Pikachu and Greninja,” Kiawe commented as Satoshi received his ticket from Kukui.

“Oh hush you,” Satoshi playfully hit his back, earning a ‘HEY!’ from Kiawe. Once the class received their individual ticket, they entered the boarding gate and waited for their plane to arrive.

MEANWHILE:

“Are you excited Gary?” Professor Oak asked as he looked at his grandson’s awaiting face. Gary huffed and nodded. “Of course I am! Sato cannot just disappear on me! I missed him…”

Thankfully, Professor Oak did not hear the last bit that Gary had said.

BACK TO THE ALOLAN GROUP

Kukui looked over at his foster son, who was petting Pikachu a bit excessively, indicating that he was stressed out and worried about something. Kukui put his hand on the boy’s shoulder and pulled him close, allowing Satoshi to lean on him. Satoshi felt a bit better, with Pikachu’s warmth and Kukui comforting gaze. He took a deep breath in trying to calm himself down before the plane landed at the Kanto Airport.

After making sure that students had gotten their belongings, there was a shuttle bus awaiting them and they boarded it. Upon reaching the famous Oak lab, Satoshi was tackled down by a ginger.

“SATOSHI!!” The boy cried as he wrapped his arms around Satoshi. Satoshi, recognizing that voice, just smiled and hugged him back. “I=it’s great to see you again…”

“Y-you have a lot of explaining to do…” Gary wiped his tears as he continued hugging his childhood friend. “Like w-why you suddenly disappeared…”

“A-ah… I’ll explain it in private later…”

Professor Oak laughed at the sight of his grandson’s emotional actions (which was understandable since Gary lost his only friend 3-4 years ago). The well-known professor invited them inside, before congratulating his cousin on the anniversary of the Pokemon school, with one of his Pokemon poems. Afterwards, the group was given the chance to explore the lab. Sophocles got to see the Kantonese version of Raichu and Kiawe got to ride a Rapidash which was not native to the Alolan region. Lana went swimming, admiring the water type Pokemon that she could not see in her region.

However, Satoshi did not go with the group and instead walked beside Gary, who was trying his best not to cry. Typical Gary…

“I see that your Pichu has evolved…”

“Mhm…”

“You also have a Greninja…”

“Yup…”

“So you were in the Kalos region before going to the Alola region…”

“I-i guess…”

Gary turned to his childhood friend before finding a place to sit down with his pal.

“Why did you leave… without telling me?” A sad, sad voice could be heard from his voice. “Ms Delia wouldn’t answer my question too…”

Satoshi did not turn to look at his friend and began to mumble sadly.

“Y-you know how my parents would fight…”

“Yea, what about it… Don’t tell me…”

Y-yes… They divorced and my mother, who I-i don’t think I could call a mother, spiralled down into depression… She neglected me… a-and once she couldn’t take it… s-she gave me up to Team Flare…”

Gary’s face contorted to one of shock, disbelief and most importantly, anger. How could someone as sweet and kind as Miss Delia do something so horrible?!

“T-team Flare? Y-you mean the terrorist organisation… responsible for the Kalos Crisis…”

Tears welled in Satoshi’s eyes as he began to whimper. “I-i was manipulated to help him… H-he took advantage of my bond with Greninja… I-i was partially the cause of thousands of deaths in Kalos… I-i hurt Alain… I-i hurt many people…”

Gary hugged his childhood friend before crying with him.

“G-Gary can you p-promise me that you won’t tell anyone else?”

“I-i promise

Suddenly, there was some ruckus that could be heard from the lab. The two rushed to the lab to see some arguments going on between a woman and Professor Kukui while the Alolan group watched in worry.

“H-hey Satoshi… Isn’t that your mother?” Gary whispered. He could have sworn he heard Satoshi gulp in anxiety. Satoshi nodded before trying to back out when Delia spotted him.

“Satoshi Ketchum…” He heard his mother- no, that woman- say his name. He stopped walking and turned around with Pikachu in his hands. His body was tense and both Pikachu and Greninja could sense that. They obviously did not trust the woman.

“Let’s talk shall we? Mother and son?” Ms Delia tried to convince her son. Satoshi tensed up more. “I’m not your son anymore..”

“Yes, you are!” She huffed as she grabbed his wrists. “We need to talk…”

Kukui ushered his students to leave them before rushing to Satoshi’s side. He glared at her, his voice low and threatening. “Let go of my son.”

“Your son? Don’t joke around. We just need to talk…”

“Then I shall join you…” Kukui insisted as pulled the boy behind him. “Gary, would you mind being a witness to this… ‘talk’...”

Gary looked up before nodding. Anything for his only friend….

“I hope Sato is okay…” Mallow sighed as she watched them enter a soundproof room. Lana placed her hand on her friend's shoulder, reassuring her that their friend would be fine. After all, it was Satoshi they were talking about. That boy practically has no sense of self-preservation and always commits to his words. 

Mallow just nodded worriedly as she joined the rest of the group who went exploring till sunset. 

MEANWHILE

Satoshi was glaring at his former mother who tried to reason her actions. Kukui definitely did not believe her and Gary just silently watched their interaction. 

“So you see, my son. I-i wasn’t in my right mind when I gave you away… Y-you just reminded me of your father that I couldn’t take it anymore… Moreover, your f-father left a really bad image on us… I really couldn’t bear the weight of his actions. So please, forgive your mother… It’s not like I wanted to give you up anyways. Besides, if you were in my situation, you would spiral down into insanity…”

Kukui could hear her scoff at the last part and narrowed his eyes. Both him and his son fell for the woman’s lies. Satoshi spoke up…

“Then why give me up to Team Flare? You could have put me up for adoption or put me under the care of Professor Oak… Why Team Flare?” Satoshi grew bitter when he confronted her about that terrorist group. Delia looked nervous, and both Gary and Kukui noticed it. Both of them wanted to know it…

“I-I uhhh…”

She could not answer…

“Answer the question Ms Delia,”

“Yes, please answer…”

And she snapped. 

“Because you looked exactly like your father, a soon to be monster! I must as well send you off to a terrorist organization, because you were meant to be like him! Didn’t you also cause the Kalos Crisis? YOU MONSTER!!!”

Satoshi had not felt that kind of rage ever since he realized Lysandre had manipulated him

“THAT’S BECAUSE I WAS MANIPULATED TO DO SO!!! I THOUGHT I WAS DOING IT FOR PEACE!!! I NEVER EXPECTED TO HELP IN SUCH DESTRUCTION!”

“Sato, calm down…”

Both Kukui and Gary never expected the boy to yell. It was new. Satoshi removed his arm sleeves, revealing the scars caused by Lysandre’s experiment. Gary gasped, his heart shattered. His only friend was hurt… Only because of that woman’s neglectful action. Rage boiled through his vein and he wanted to just slap her, but he refused. After all, Gary was just a mere witness to this conversation…

“I NEVER WANTED TO BE WITH THAT MAN !!” Gary could hear Satoshi’s voice breaking, both from fury and trauma. “ HE R@P3D ME! HE EXPERIMENTED ON ME! IT ONLY GOT WORSE WHEN I UNLOCKED A PHENOMENON WITH GRENINJA!!! YOU THINK I ENJOYED IT?! AND HERE I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS TO ACHIEVE A WORLD PEACE!!! MY CHILDHOOD WAS RUINED BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T THINK ABOUT ME !!!”

Gary was speechless when he heard what had happened to Satoshi, while Kukui tried to calm his son down. Delia was in disbelief.

“Satoshi… dear… I-i’m sorry…”

“Don’t call me ‘dear’! Not after the things I’ve gone through! Not when I am happier being adopted!”

“Don’t be stupid! He isn’t even Kantonese!”

“So you’re racist?” Kukui raised an eyebrow as he pulled his adopted son closer to him. Delia huffed, rolling her eyes. 

“What I’m trying to say is that I want to have the happy family we once had, Satoshi? Could you spare some sympathy for your poor mother?”

Gary wanted to gag at the sickly sweet voice. Satoshi realised something.

“You just want the money I earned for being the runner-up for the Kalos League, don’t you?”

“Nooo… of course not! I just want to be with my son again!”

They could tell that it was a lie. Satoshi scoffed. 

“You’re not my mother… You lying imbecile… I’m officially adopted by Professor Kukui.” Kukui smiled proudly when his son stood up for himself, especially after the harm he had gone through. His eyes shone ‘That’s my boy!’ Satoshi could sense that from Kukui. Kukui added on.

“Unless you want me to press charges for child abandonment, supporting a terrorist organisation, harassing a child and invasion of one’s privacy, I suggest you stay away from my son. And don’t you dare say that I kidnapped him or what sorts, I have the adoption documents. Don’t forget… You legally gave Satoshi up and I legally took him in,” Satoshi never expected his foster father to give off such a threatening aura to the woman he once called his mother and immediately gave him a hug of gratitude. Delia wanted to shout and attack the Alolan Professor before the security guards, Professor Oak had called, dragged her out of the lab. Satoshi heaved a sigh of relief before getting tackled into a hug by Gary who burst into tears (it was unlike him to be this emotional, but it was Satoshi, and he trusted Satoshi to the core). Kukui just chuckled when his son became happier. It was like something heavy had just been removed from his shoulder. The boy was recovering! Satoshi was recovering, just like Lillie! They are both recovering! It meant that Kukui was on the right path. 

Kukui smiled gently as he ruffled the boy’s hair with care. This Kantonese boy was his son, and just like any good father, the Professor was willing to sacrifice anything for him. That was a promise. 

“Now, let’s join the others for the party, shall we?”

Both Gary and Satoshi nodded before following Kukui to the backyard where the rest were enjoying the party. Mallow turned around to see the boys when she realised that Satoshi had just finished crying. She rushed up to him, her sisterly mode activated. 

“A-are you alright Sato? Did that woman hurt you? D-do you need anything? Here, have some water! You must be dehydrated after all that crying!” Mallow began checking him for any injuries and passed him a cup of water. She huffed. “I swear… If that woman hurt you, I’m going to run over her…”

That earned a breathy giggle from the boy. “I-i’m not upset… Just relieved… Thanks for worrying about me…”

Mallow gave a grin before patting his head. Sure, she might only be a few months older than Satoshi, but she viewed Satoshi as her little brother she could not have. She sighed before grabbing a plate of food for him. 

“Here, eat! Professor Kukui told me that you didn’t eat for the entire day due to loss of appetite! You better eat, at least a quarter…” She nagged as she got another drink for her friend, before joining her girl group, allowing Satoshi and Gary to catch up with each other. 

“G-Gary have you eaten?” 

“Not really hungry right now-” 

Satoshi shoved a spoonful of curry into his mouth, which Gary hesitantly swallowed for him. Both of them laughed. 

Kukui asked the class to gather for tomorrow’s plan. 

“Alright class, tomorrow we’re going to experience something that haven't been done in the Alolan Region!”

The class began to murmur.

“We are going to experience… Gym Battling!”

Satoshi decided to challenge the Cerulean Gym Leader, Misty, in a 2-2 Pokemon battle. Pikachu had fainted when Misty had mega evolved her final Pokemon, Gyarados, amazing the entire class as mega evolution is rarely used in the Alola region. Gary was sitting beside Kukui when he noticed that Satoshi was looking rather uncomfortable at the sight of the Mega Evolved Gyarados. 

“Alright Greninja! I choose you!” Satoshi called out as he gently laid Pikachu on the ground beside him. Greninja jumped in front of him, preparing to battle against Misty’s Gyarados. 

“Water Vs Water?” Sophocles commented. “It won't work at all…”

“Well, you have to expect the unexpected,” Kiawe replied, watching the battle in awe. Both sides were making different combinations of moves, attacking and defending at every minute. The class watched the intense battle at the edge of their seats.

“Alright Greninja! Let's end this battle once and for all!” 

“Gren!”

“ STRONGER AND STRONGER! THAT’S RIGHT MUCH MUCH STRONGER!!! GRENINJA LET'S GO!!”

Greninja was immediately enveloped in some sort of water cylinder, a red and black crest forming on its head. The water cylinder then fused and formed into one massive water shuriken on the Water/Dark type Pokemon’s back. Such transformation caught the entire class’s attention. 

“I see!” Misty grinned. “You’re the Bond Phenomenon Trainer from the Kalos League! I never expected the trainer to be Kantonese,”

Kukui was deep in thought, his eyes following every action and moves in the intense battle. So this is what Sycamore was implying… Lysander had such power on the tip of his fingers through Satoshi and his Pokemon… It was only a miracle for Satoshi to break out of his manipulation… That is one immense power, almost rivaling a mega-evolved pokemon who had bonded with its trainer for years! They achieved it within a few years, without a keystone or a mega stone. Gary watched his childhood friend wince slightly when Gyarados hit Greninja and grew worried. The boy was overexerting himself. 

“Greninja use double team, then water shuriken!”

The class gasped at the large number of large water shurikens flying towards Gyarados, leaving it no space for it to dodge. It didn’t take long for Gyarados to pass out from the damage it had received. 

“Gyarados is unable to battle! Satoshi wins!” Brock announced and the class cheered. 

“Woahh! That was so cool!” Lana commented when suddenly Satoshi passed out once Greninja transformed back. “Greninja’s water shuriken was super big!” 

“SATOSHI!!” The class cried as Kukui rushed down to carry the boy up and returned Greninja back to its Pokeball. Pikachu hopped onto Kukui’s shoulder looking at its trainer worriedly. Kukui sighed when he felt his son breathing. 

“It’s alright guys… He’s exhausted…” 

TIMESKIP ( IM SRY GAIS I CAN’T WRITE POKEMON BATTLES D: )

Mallow had noticed that Gary had not left Satoshi’s side ever since Satoshi had passed out from exhaustion. Greninja was being treated by Nurse Joy while the others were having dinner. She decided to join him. She closed the door behind her as she took a chair and sat down beside him.

“Worried?” She asked, receiving a nod from the ginger. Mallow just sighed when Gary opened his mouth. 

“For a ball of sunshine, he’s been through a lot…” He mumbled, his eyes trailed his best friend’s arm. It was full of scars. Mallow’s concern only grew when she finally saw what was underneath her self-proclaimed little brother’s arm sleeves. She covered her mouth in shock, speechless. 

Gary continued explaining, “ See that woman was once his mother. Satoshi used to have a healthy family, but something bad had happened. I trust you that you won’t tell anyone else… He sees you as his sister figure…”

Mallow chuckled softly. Ever since he was introduced to her, he would follow her around like a little duckling, especially when the Professor was busy and dropped him off her place. Satoshi won’t go anywhere unless with Kukui or her. When he was scared and Kukui was not around, he would hide behind her, until he calmed down. He trusted her a lot, even if she could be extremely hyper.

“Yea, I can see that,” Mallow giggled. “I treat him as my little brother I could never have,”

Gary chuckled before continuing, his sad facial expression still displayed on his face. “It’s great to see his genuine smile back… Ever since his parents began to argue and fight, his smile seemed forced, he looked like he was about to break, and a year after his father left, he suddenly disappeared… I-i asked that woman where he went when he stopped coming to school… s-she never answered and shut the door in my face…”

Tears began to drip onto Gary’s cheek as he sobbed into his hands. Mallow placed a gentle shoulder, sympathy displayed on her face as Gary continued to bawl. Gary rarely cries unless he’s alone or with someone he trusts.

“I never realised how much of an asshole I was… Satoshi was my only friend, and I only realised it when he disappeared…” 

“Oh…”

Mallow gave a smile once Gary stopped bawling. Gary apologised to her for his waterworks which she did not mind. After all, everyone needs a shoulder to cry on. She was staring at the sleeping Satoshi with pity when Gary spoke up, “Thanks for being his first friend after that incident …”

“What incident?”

“That I cannot tell you without Satoshi’s permission… You have to approach him yourself..” Gary muttered, respecting his childhood friend’s wishes. 

Mallow just nodded before standing up. “If that’s what Sato wants, I’ll respect it… Anyways, goodnight Gary,”

“Goodnight Mallow…”

Next morning, they were going back to Alola. Satoshi was still tired as he was constantly leaning on either Kukui or Mallow for support. For once, Greninja did not fuss about going back into its Pokeball, since it was also exhausted from yesterday's battle. Gary gave Satoshi a final hug before the group entered the departure hall, but before that, Gary actually gave him his contact number, so that they still keep in touch. After all, he did not want his childhood friend to ‘disappear’ again. Mallow giggled, it was her idea of course. 

Once they entered the departure hall, they had 2 hours (recommended timing btw)  before the plane arrived, so Kukui allowed them to explore the airport as long as they got to the boarding gate about 30 minutes before the gate opened. Satoshi of course stayed with Kukui, while the rest excitedly explored the airport. The duo rested at a cafe since Satoshi was in no mood to move around that much. 

“Dad…”

“Hmm? Yes kiddo?” Kukui looked up from his newspaper. 

“What happens if she comes back?”

Kukui could hear the worry in his tone. 

“She won’t… I made sure of that; I will fill a restraining order on her…”

Satoshi gave a soft hum as he took a sip of his hot chocolate. Pikachu was playing with Rockruff. He seems distracted, must be from exhaustion. Kukui smiled as he ruffled his son’s hair, jolting him from his daydream. “We have to go soon, kiddo,” Satoshi yawned as he stood up, holding Kukui’s hand as Pikachu jumped into his arms while Rockruff followed behind. The family just enjoyed the stroll to the boarding gate.

Satoshi never expected to feel the same, watchful and malicious eyes in Alola. Ever since he was entrusted by the tapus to take good care of Nebby, he felt as if he was still here. It was impossible, he was dead. He saw his body impaled from the rubble of his destruction. So why did he feel that way… His breathing became shallow as he could not sleep. Satoshi sat up, trying to breathe. The boy was practically gasping for air. The room seemed to spin and soon, everything was blurry and all he could see was him , towering over the boy, his red amber like eyes following his every move. Satoshi wanted to scream and yell for help, but he felt like he was choked. His body was shivering, his eyes were unfocused when suddenly, a pair of gentle arms wrapped around him. 

“Breathe, Satoshi, breathe…”

Satoshi could barely recognize the voice, until he felt a gentle hand rub his back and soft lullaby. He leaned closer, feeling his warmth and his sobs died down into whimpers and sniffles. 

“That’s right Satoshi, breathe with me...” It was Kukui’s, his father’s voice. Satoshi took a deep breath as he leaned closer. Pikachu cuddled beside him, giving him warmth, which definitely helped him calm down. 

“Hey… Feeling better?”

“Mhm…”

“Wanna talk about it?”

Silence…

“It’s alright if you don’t want to…”

“N-no… I want to tell you…” 

Kukui patiently waited for his son, making sure to look out for signs of him being uncomfortable. 

“I-i feel his eyes in Alola… It was as if he was looking at me through a different person…”

Kukui gave a concerned hum as he continued rubbing his back.

“And who might that person be kiddo?”

“ Lusamine… E-ever since I got Nebby, I feel her eyes all over me… L-like him … I don’t know why…” Satoshi whimpered, his breathing panicking. “She and Lillie reminded me of me and him together… I’m worried… N-not just for myself but for Lillie too…”

“Shh… I’ll make sure she doesn’t come close to you..”

“...o-okay…”

Kukui hushed him, giving him time to breathe properly. Lillie and Satoshi… Both of his students had massive parental issues making them vulnerable to manipulation of all sorts. Both used to have a healthy family until something tragic happened and the adults could not recover from it, impacting the children in the worst ways. Lillie had a neglectful, controlling mother who would emotionally blackmail her whenever the girl tried to fight for herself ever since her father was proclaimed dead. Lusamine would starve her, so that the poor girl would be ‘perfect’ just like that cynical woman. Kukui grimaced at the times Lillie would pass out from hunger in school. Lusamine was very abusive too, having to hit Lillie when the poor girl bothered her. She would treat her like a doll, a puppet for her to control, to abuse and to neglect. The worst part was that Lillie still loved her, unlike Gladion who had abandoned the toxic family years ago. Satoshi’s case was similar. His father was some sort of criminal, a terrorist to be exact, giving the family a bad image. That put a lot of pressure onto Delia who could not cope and mere look at her own son reminded her of the man she once loved, now hated. She would neglect his needs, unconsciously starving him especially when she was too drunk to prepare meals for Satoshi. As Satoshi grew older, Delia snapped and legally gave him up to Team Flare, which was secretly a Terrorist Organization, and that spiraled down badly. Satoshi was a victim of experiments and r@p3, which he didn’t know was wrong until he realized the damage Lysandre had caused. 

Both students needed a lot of support, and Lillie received the support earlier than Satoshi did. Kukui was grateful that Lillie stayed in a separate house, compared to the one Lusamine was staying at. Hobbes had been a real-life saviour then. The family butler pitied how malnourished Lillie was and nursed her back to full health, allowing her the freedom to do anything she wanted, since Lusamine was too fixated on her work to even bother about the daughter. That woman claimed that she was working hard to reunite the family again, by finding her husband. Kukui did not trust those sugar-coated words and thought that it was just bullshit, since it was just an excuse to open up the Ultra Wormhole and explore it. It was her dream after all. Lillie was recovering and she had a good support system ever since that woman stopped breathing down her neck. She was now gaining the bravery and confidence to touch Pokémon and had already taken baby steps when she was able to hold her Alolan Vulpix- Snowy- and Satoshi’s Pikachu, as well as ride a Stoutland in Akala Island. Kukui had never been so proud. 

While one student was in the process of healing, Kukui was requested to take care of Satoshi by a certain Kalosian Professor. Satoshi had only started his healing process just a few months ago ever since he was under his care. Satoshi was a victim of many things and was unintentionally involved in terrorism, due to emotional and physical manipulation. Kukui looked down at the boy he had adopted who was trying his best not to fall asleep. 

“It’s alright, you can sleep… I’ll be here,” Kukui reassured as the boy reluctantly gave in to the tiredness. Kukui smiled gently as he laid down on the futon mattress, gently putting the sleeping boy beside him. Kukui will make sure that this boy will heal alongside Lillie. These two were like his children, heck, all of his students were like his children. Kukui smiled at the thought. Arceus damnit, he never expected to be such a father figure.

The next morning, Burnet came over to give Nebby a check-up. Kukui stared lovingly at the woman whom Satoshi warmed up comfortably despite only meeting just a week ago. Satoshi looked up at his dad, a smirk forming in his face, despite his eyes red and puffy from last night’s sobbing session. He humoured, “Dad, will I have a mom soon?”

Kukui choked on his coffee, when Satoshi started laughing before going up to Greninja and Pikachu, who were as per usual bickering over trivial things. Professor Burnet chuckled as she closed her laptop and kept the devices after making a quick check-up on Nebby. She patted his back and grinned. “Your son sure does know how to bond with Pokemon easily,”

“Yea, he trusts them more than humans…”

“That says a lot about how he grew up.”

“I know,”

“Anyways, I have to go back to the lab since, you know, is being quite a pushover now…” Professor Burnet sighed as Kukui opened the door for her. “So, see ya!”

Satoshi peered from the living room and grinned as he turned to his Pokemon. “Guys! We might get a mother soon!”

“Satoshi… Please… I swear to Arceus…”

“Your face is red, Dad”

Looks like Satoshi is letting it down soon, and Kukui had to bear with it.

As per usual, Burnet had to do a check up on Nebby every Friday and it would last till the afternoon since her boss was extremely particular about details, much to her dismay. Satoshi was playing a game of UNO with his Pokemon (except Rowlet since Rowlet was Rowlet), which was quite questionable but it was Satoshi so… Kukui was helping out Burnet, with an occasional blush or stammering, which caused the Kantonese boy to giggle and snicker at that sight. Kukui gave him a playful glare when the boy went back to the game. Who knew a game of UNO with Pokemon would be so intense?

“Pikapi! ( AHAAHA, SERVES YOU RIGHT) ” Pikachu giggled when Lycanroc added a +4 card to the stack of + cards, making Greninja draw a total of 34 cards. 

“Gren… ( Screw you )!” The water/ dark type huffed in annoyance. Instead of the usual UNO game, Satoshi accidentally bought the UNO: NO MERCY version, as a result, there was more arguing than playing. Litten placed down a card as the game continued. Satoshi chuckled as he placed his last two cards yelling, “UNO GAME!!”

His Pokemon grumbled and laughed as their trainer won first. The game continued, the rivalry between Greninja and Pikachu was so intense that both Lycanroc and Litten had to often stop them from fighting when their trainer was not looking. Even their own rivalry could not match with the one Pikachu and Greninja had. So it was met with a lot of screaming and teasing, which Satoshi absolutely adored. He really knew how to bring out his Pokemon’s unique personality. 

“Your son is really one of a kind, I have seen Pokemon with so much expressiveness with their trainer,” Burnet commented as she looked up from her laptop for a brief moment as Kukui gave her a mug of warm tea. “Thanks,”

Kukui smiled as he watched the intense game of cards with pride.”That’s my son alright, he really appreciates every living being, unlike some people…”

Burnet chuckled. “That’s the kind of trainer I hope future generations would be,”

“Yea…”

The doorbell suddenly rang and Satoshi rushed down, nearly tripping from his excitement. He opened the door to see his friends and invited them in. “Alola guys!”

“Alola Satoshi!” They exclaimed in unison when suddenly screaming and laughing could be heard from the inside. Satoshi just rubbed the back of his head embarrassingly,”J-just don’t mind them, we were just playing Uno,” 

He invited them in when Pikachu electrocuted Greninja out of spite when Greninja placed a +10 card, which made Satoshi stop the game for a while to release the tension. “Stop it you two! You’re going to hurt Litten and Lycanroc too!”

“It never fails to amuse me how much those two bicker,” Lana commented monotony as she placed her bag while the other laughed. Gladion was hiding behind his sister, trying to prepare himself. Sometimes he would wonder why he agreed for a sleepover. Obviously, it was a result of his gay panic and his simping era. Heck even Mallow was not that down bad for Lillie. 

Burnet was about to pack up and leave, so that the children could start their sleepover when they suddenly insisted that she joined them. She laughed as she checked her schedule while Kukui tried to reason with them. 

“Now there, Professor Burnet is a busy woman, so I'm not sure-”

“Oh great, I'm free this weekend, so why not join you guys?” Burnet smiled making, Kukui blush. His students noticed it and began snickering when suddenly Satoshi got accidentally electrocuted by Pikachu who was trying to target the Ninja pokemon. 

“That's it you two! Time out!” Satoshi yelled, as he kept the card game and placed the box on the table.

“Greninja! ( But Pikachu started it! )

“Pika pika! ( Only because you're an asshole! )”

“Gren!! Greninja!!( You're just a sore loser! You don't see me attacking you with a water shuriken when you stacked 34 cards on me! )”

“OKAY THAT'S ENOUGH YOU TWO!” Satoshi yelled, which was uncommon for him to do that. He put Greninja in it's PokeBall and made Pikachu sit in one corner before turning to his friends. “S-so sorry for that…”

“No no it's fine!” Mallow reassured as the others nodded as well. “It's actually quite wholesome!”

“Even Gladion agrees!”

“STOP IT LANA!!” Gladion's face was red again and the knowing looks from the others was just straight up bullying his massive crush on Satoshi. Thankfully, the Kantonese boy have yet to realize it. He grumbled when he felt a hand on his forehead. It was from Satoshi. His face turned redder as he gently removed his hand. 

“Are you alright, Glads? You seem red,” Satoshi asked, concern seeping in his voice. Gladion just nodded, “i-i'm fine…”

“I'm glad,” The boy smiled when he was called over by Kiawe, who was pointed at the loft. Satoshi proudly nodded. “That's where I sleep!”

“Ooh! I wanna sleep up there!” Lana climbed on it. Sophocles huffed. “I want to sleep up there too!”

“How about we do a competition between the girls and boys?” Mallow suggested. “The winner will get to sleep on the loft if that's alright Satoshi,”

“Yea, I'm fine with it!” He shrugged before asking. “What shall we play?”

Nebby floated up to him and nuzzled in his arms, cooing like a baby. It giggled, indicating that it wants to play before disappearing from his arms and reappearing in a different part of the house and disappearing again. 

“Looks like Nebby’s in a mood for hide and seek!” Satoshi explained when Mallow jumped with an ideam 

“The first group to catch Nebby wins!” And off started the competition. While others who were serious about this competition (like Kiawe, Lana and Sophocles) and having fun (Lillie, Mallow and Satoshi), there was one who seemed distracted by something. Nebby was constantly reappearing and disappearing which was getting quite annoying to say the least. 

“Gladion! Stop staring at your crush and help us!” Sophocles whined and Gladion, being the massive tsundere he was, denied it. 

“I am helping!” He grumbled.

“I FOUND IT!” Mallow exclaimed, holding a giggling Nebby in her hands. The boys groaned (mainly Kiawe and Sophocles), having not to get the loft as their sleeping place. Afterwards, the group began setting up their sleeping areas before gathering at the living room for another game. 

“ A game of Uno no mercy?” Satoshi asked as he began shuffling the deck and Pikachu and Greninja were out of time out. “I don't know if I should trust you two…”

“Let them play Sato! It'll be fun! I'll crush them!” Lana sneered as Satoshi warned them exasperatedly. “Don't blame me if you get electrocuted…”

“It'll be fun!” Mallow patted his back as he distributed 7 cards to each player. The game quickly escalated, with each person sabotaging another and obviously Lana was targeting either Satoshi's Pokemon or Kiawe. Friendly rivalry, am I right? Lillie finished her deck first, then Satoshi, followed up by Sophocles and the game got intense by every second. 

It took a good 20 minutes for Kiawe to lose and he was in dismay having to do a dance as a punishment for losing. Lana was secretly recording for blackmail. 

“I can't believe you got stacked by a fucking Pokemon!” Lana wheezed when she mentioned how Pikachu made him draw 32 cards. 

“Language Lana!” Kukui yelled from the Kitchen preparing dinner with the help of his son, Burnet and Mallow. With the fear of Munchlax just immediately eating their food, Burnet had to unfortunately put it in its PokeBall until dinner was ready.

Timeskip (I have no idea how to continue)

After dinner, Kukui and Burnet decided to have a stroll at the beach to discuss professor stuff, leaving the students and gladion in charge of the house. So like any sleepover, there would be gossiping/ sharing of information/ yapping sessions. To be honest, it was quite entertaining to listen, from Lillie’s and Satoshi’s point of view, which the boys practically did not understand how. 

“Oh yea! Have you seen Greninja’s form?” Lana excitedly exclaimed as she immediately showed Gladion the photos. Gladion took a look and was impressed. “How do one achieve it?”

“It’s called the bond phenomenon,” Sophocles explained, after having done research on it. “There’s a famous researcher, named Professor Sycamore, who is currently finding out about it, not much is known about it…”

“So you’re telling me Satoshi here..”

“Yep!” Lillie smiled as Satoshi and Greninja sheepishly looked at them. 

“I’ve also noticed that you have a new variant of Lycanroc,” Gladion commented, avoiding eye contact with the cute Kantonese boy. 

“Yep! Rockruff evolved during a special sunset that’s why his eyes are green! Very unique!” Satoshi grinned as Lycanroc nuzzled underneath his chin and proceeded to give its trainer a couple of licks, making Satoshi laugh. It then proceeded to tell stories about their families, which Lillie, Gladion and Satoshi were slightly uncomfortable with, especially Gladion and Lillie.

That night, while the others were fast asleep, Lillie was wide awake, thinking about her mother, Lusamine, and sneaked outside for a breather, unconsciously, waking Burnet and her brother up. She sighed as Snowy nuzzled into her hand, trying to distract her from her negative thoughts.

“Can’t sleep?” Lillie could hear Burnet’s voice and turned around to see the female professor and Gladion following behind. She sighed and nodded sadly as they both sat beside her. 

“I just want Mother to be like the mother I knew before…” A pause. “Before Father disappeared…”

She leaned onto her brother’s shoulder, sensing Burnet’s sympathetic gaze on her. Lillie continued to reminisce about how Lusamine would be an average mother until their father disappeared. She missed that Lusamine. Gladion too. He grimaced at the time he had to protect his sister from their mother’s abuse until he couldn’t stand it anymore and ran away. He never regretted it except for leaving Lillie behind with that cynical woman. Lillie continued to share her worries.

“I just want a mother just like my friends, well most of my friends. Someone who would care for one’s well-being without pushing them too hard…” Lillie sighed. 

“Well, maybe you can snap Lusamine out of it… She’s been so busy lately, especially the Nebby incident… Her face had become more deranged, it’s starting to scare the scientist” Burnet suggested in which Lillie shook her head. “She won’t listen…”

Gladion just agreed with her, stroking Umbreons head sadly. Burne

“I’ll help you confront her,” Burnet offered as she ruffled their hair. Lillie smiled as Gladion gave her a hug. “Thanks professor… You act like a mother more than what Mother was…”

Burnet took it as a compliment as they walked back to the beach house. “Come, try to sleep, if you need anything, I’ll be in that room,” 

Gladion watched as his sister climbed up to the loft and once, he had a feeling that Lillie was alright, he went to his mattress which was (fortunately) beside Satoshi. He blushed slightly when Satoshi’s peaceful innocent sleeping face was facing him. He cursed quietly to himself. “Arceus damnit, he is cute…”

Chapter Text

The Pokemon that became everyone's god was actually formed during the early ages of their solar system when orbits are extremely risky and unstable. Rocky planets were colliding with one another, getting eaten by larger planets (gas Giants and ice Giants) and flying out of the solar system. It was too hectic and chaotic for Arceus to just stay there. So with the permission of his star, he left to explore other solar systems which were more stable before coming back. 

While travelling, a solar system caught the Pokemon's eye. It was relatively stable with 2 habitable planets. Quite a feat to be honest. So like any adventurer would do, Arceus decided to stay there, sneaking past the gas planets and landed itself in Asteroid Belt. A female noticed it first while she was pushing the Asteroids back into the belt, away from her orbit, with a blue aura like sword in her hand to cut up the bigger asteroids. 

“Oh hello little one,” The planet scooped Arceus up and brought her to her orbit shared with another planet. She was moving a quite a gentle pace.  “Look Proto! I found this creature!”

The larger rocky planet floated closer to her to examine it before stammering, “I-i don't think it's from Aphrodite’s surface or even Ares’s…”

“Hey you're right,” She replied before smiling back at Arceus. The Pokemon could've swore that it felt a warm feeling deep in its core. It nudged into her hand, wanting attention from the female planet. Theia giggled as she used her finger to gently pat its head. Arceus really wanted to know how to do what Theia just did to the Asteroid just now, but it was distracted by the other Rockies fighting

“Looks like they are having their usual brawl. Let's take a look shall we?” Theia smiled as she brought Arceus to watch the battlefield. There Ares and Hermes were in the middle of a fight. Ares had a spear, good for mid range and far range attacks, a sword for close combat and a shield. He effortlessly switched between the sword and the spear, in the middle of the fight with Hermes.

Hermes, on the other hand, was one of the fastest planets that orbit the sun. With the help of the Caduceus, gifted to him by the sun, his incredible speed often caught Ares off guard. And soon enough, Ares's defense was lowered, and Hermes landed a powerful blow on the red planet. 

Theia burst out laughing as she joined the others, Vulcan, Aphrodite and Proto. 

“BAHHAHAHAH!!!” Aphrodite wheezed as he noticed the female planet joining them. “Oh, hey Theia, whatcha got there?”

Theia showed them Arceus who was peacefully sitting in the palms of her hands. Aphrodite gasped as he took a closer look. “A new living species! But it doesn't look like it came from my surface…”

The other Rockies gathered around her to get a glimpse of Arceus and such action caught their star’s attention. 

“Your brawl is over! Get back to your orbits!” Helios yelled, startling the planets who hurried back to their orbits, while Theia and Proto stayed back to talk to their sun.

Theia lifted up her arms to show their star the creature they had found in the Asteroid Belt and he concluded that Arceus was from a neighbouring Solar System. His answer received nods before the two planets went back to their shared orbit. 

Arceus decided to stay there a bit longer, watching the planet's signature moves, in hopes that they would actually teach them. Theia, being the hyperactive one amongst the two, happened to have the most energy and could harness it to form aura like weapons. Proto, the most resilient and toughest planet amongst the Rockies, was all rock related moves. Aphrodite could create life from his hands and use it to her advantage while Ares, was known for his destruction and painful attacks. Hermes and Vulcan, the fastest in the solar system uses speed to their advantage, and with the help of acceleration, they are able to land blows so powerful, (Hermes was the strongest one)

Soon, Arceus created its own array of moves based on their attacks, such as Leaf Edge and Rock Throw, but yet it still cannot master what Theia was doing. So he decided to go back to his own solar system, which was hopefully more stable now, and think about it before going back to Theia for assistance. And so, it left, giving it's goodbyes to the Rockies and the others.

After a few centuries 

Arceus decided to go back to the solar system only to see the neighbouring Solar System in shambles, Vulcan was nowhere to be seen, Aphrodite had lost his life as well as his moon- Neith- and Ares lost his water, only having his ice caps on his poles, and his magnetic fields as his core had cooled down. Arceus was worried, where were Proto and Theia? It searched around their orbits only to catch them moments before the collided. Arceus’s eyes widened. No no no! This can't be happening! THEIA!!!

Proto was unconscious and Theia’s soul was barely clinging on to what's left of her body. She was crumbling and her energy tried to cling onto her debris. Arceus got beside its favourite planet and tried to gently nudge her. Theia weakly opened her eyes and smiled. “Ah… you… came back…”

Arceus’s eyes was watching her as she tried to give her energy to the unconscious planet beside her. Proto survived (due to him being the more resilient one among the two) , but was unconscious. Her remaining energy could barely keep her awake. She gave it all to Arceus. Her final words were:

“Thank… you for being my friend… Take care of Proto for me…” And with that, it was her last smile, and she crumbled, forming into Proto’s temporary rings.

Arceus was in despair and could no longer stay in this solar system without a reason too. The planet it looked up to was dead and it broke its heart into pieces. There was no doubt whether it could recover. 

“H-hey you should go back to your Solar System… Your host planet developed life didn't she?” Aphrodite, now renamed to Venus, sniffled. “You should use Theia's energy to help protect her… as well as all the moves you've learnt… It's alright we can take care of Proto now…”

So Arceus went back…

Timeskip

Arceus longed to see Theia again but it had a world to govern and take care. It was his planet's orders, and it wouldn't dare to defy her. Though, it was hoping that Theia would reincarnate in his world. Arceus had finally learnt Aura related moves just like Theia's and gave this ability to his creation, mainly the legendaries and Lucario (for unknown reasons). Arceus was sure that Theia would be proud. 

“ Waahh! Waahh! ” A crying newborn from the Kanto Region, specifically Pallet Town, had caught Arceus's attention. It was different compared to the other newborns he had seen with his all-seeing eyes . The raven-haired boy was different, so Arceus decided to take a closer look. And soon enough, that infant, who grew up to be Satoshi Ketchum was almost similar to Theia, having her features reincarnated onto him. Arceus did not want to lose this boy like how it lost Theia so it blessed Satoshi some of his DNA (unconsciously making him the chosen one in that process), which was hidden to human technology (unless they have super duper advanced tech like Lysander's), just hoping that the boy would grow up to be just like his favourite planet. Now, Arceus could see Theia again through the boy but the god had to be careful. Satoshi was not Theia and Theia was not Satoshi. Satoshi had his own identity to protect and Arceus respected that. That boy was merely a reincarnation of her, not actually a revival. So the god just kept an eye on him, with the help of Legendaries from all across the world, telling them not to intervene unless it was dire (or in the god’s case, when Satoshi had no support system and needed to save the world, or the foe was far out of his range).

Chapter Text

There's a reason why Gladion hid a specific Pokemon from the others, especially from Lillie. She was recovering from her trauma and the mere sight of that specific Pokemon would make her efforts to recover go to waste. He did not want that to happen. When Satoshi accidentally teleported to him, Gladion almost panicked at the thought of Lillie beside the boy and seeing Silvally. Thankfully, that did not happen but Gladion needed to be cautious with Nebby’s teleportation abilities. Now, that Kantonese boy was stuck with him until Nebby woke up from its nap. 

Satoshi was staring at Silvally pitifully as if he understood its pain. He gently caressed its mask and commented sadly. “Poor thing…”

“It was mistreated by humans… experimented by the Aether Foundation…”

“Isn’t that…”

“Yep, the darkside of Lusamine’s company…” Gladion’s voice got serious. “ Satoshi gave a hum as he gave Silvally a gentle pat. The boy then sighed, “Humans shouldn't meddle with something that they are not involved in just for the name of science…”

Gladion turned to look at him, ignoring that both their Lycanrocs were chasing each other. He never expected Satoshi to be that familiar with such concepts.  Satoshi seemed familiar with it… Was he involved with similar things before? Gladion thought to himself when Satoshi sat beside him to admire the view with him. Pikachu was sleeping beside Nebby. 

“The view is nice…” Satoshi spoke again, breaking the silence. Gladion nodded again, this time only letting out a hum, looking at the pretty view from the hill, that no one seems to notice. 

Meanwhile

Greninja was panicking. It has never been this far away from its trainer. Satoshi's friends tried to calm him down before it went bonkers. 

“Come on Greninja! We'll find them!” Lana tried to reassure it only to be met with panicked actions. Greninja immediately sprung into action and left to search for its trainer, leaving the rest behind. Mallow chuckled, “Well… I guess we don't need to worry about it?”

“Indeed so…” 

Back to Satoshi and Gladion :)

Gladion needed to tell the Kantonese boy something, and no, he wasn't ready to confess yet but he’d been noticing how much Satoshi was staring at him. It made his heart flutter. 

Was Gladion's eyes that pretty before? His eyes are like emeralds… How beautiful… Wait… I don't know this feeling… Why is my heart beating so hard?... Satoshi thought to himself, hiding a blush from the blonde beside him. He should ask Kukui about this feeling… Gladion then spoke up, “I need you to keep a promise, Satoshi…”

“W-what why?”

“Almost everyone trusts you… S-so I believe them… I need to get this out of my chest…”

“I-i see…”

“Do you know why Lillie can't touch Pokemon?”

Satoshi turned to look at him, his face displaying concern and worry. “Why? What happened?”

Gladion began telling an incident from their childhood that left a traumatic impact on his little sister. “You see, after Father was presumed dead after being sucked into an Ultra Wormhole, which is a portal that brings one into a new dimension, Lusamine spiralled down into insanity, hoping to find him. She neglected us, for such intent. However, years gone by, that intention too changed. Now she only wants to explore that realm, and when she opens one… Lillie got in the way and almost got captured by an Ultra beast… Thankfully, Silvally saved her. I cannot forget that look on her face when she wouldn't stop clinging onto me for comfort. Afterwards, she couldn't touch or even stay close to Pokemon…”

Gladion grunted in frustration as he recalled leaving her with Lusamine when the household got too toxic. Satoshi just kept quiet and had an empathetic look on his face. He couldn't help but worry over his friend. He then spoke up, “Not all parents deserve to be parents…”

Gladion just nodded sadly, despite his facial expression being a blank as stoic as always. “I hope you can watch over Nebby… We can never trust Ultra Beasts, even if they look innocent..”

His eyes glared at Nebby, which made Satoshi defensive, “Well, you can't always assume everything! You haven't met them! Most of the time is them getting aggravated by humans disturbing their environment!”

“Still, they're still dangerous!” Gladion huffed. Satoshi grumbled when Nebby crawled up to him and he fed it some star gummies before standing up, with Nebby in his arms. “The sun is setting, we should get back… Anyways Gladion, I hope you can change your view about the new Pokemon, and your secret is safe with me,”

Gladion just nodded, waving back, not even giving eye contact to his crush. Satoshi teleported back with his Pokemon to their home where they were greeted by an extremely worried Greninja. Pikachu burst into laughter at the sight of Water/dark type Pokemon clinging onto its trainer as its life depended on it. 

“So where did you get teleported to?” Kukui asked as the group got back just in time for dinner. Satoshi got himself out of Greninja’s grasp and was immediately tackled by Rowlet. “Ack- We got teleported to Gladion…”

Kukui noticed a small blush forming on his son’s face when he mentioned his name and immediately snickered before nudging him. “Oooh, someone has a crush~”

Satoshi blushed and panicked, “M-maybe…”

And with that Kukui burst out laughing, while ruffling Satoshi’s hair.

TIMESKIP (cus I’m tired and not ready for new year)

Satoshi was careless and accidentally allowed Nebby to teleport Lillie at the wrong time. It teleported her to Gladion when Silvally was out and it traumatised her deeply. The poor girl recalled bits of her dark memory which she had forgotten over the past few years as a form of traumatic recovery. And now, all the progress has been restarted. Her heart pounded in her chest and her breaths were ragged. Her world began to spin and when she was teleported back, she unconsciously yelled at Snowy who tried to approach her. She didn’t understand why and she tiredly went home, with Snowy trailing behind her, keeping her distance. 

Meanwhile, Gladion was pissed. Not only just pissed but was also fucking infuriated, all because of the Pokemon Satoshi had swore to take care. All the effort everyone had put in had gone to waste because of some stupid Pokemon that Satoshi had failed to look after. Gladion had no idea who to put his anger to whether it was Satoshi's fault or Nebby’s fault. So whatever it was, Gladion was fucking pissed. So when he met the Kantonese Boy again, he completely snapped.  

“WHAT WERE YOU THINKING SATOSHI?!” Gladion yelled, not noticing the boy flinch. Satoshi knew that it was his mistake for carelessly allowing Nebby to do that, so Satoshi didn’t say anything. Gladion continued to snap, not even bothering to notice Satoshi’s reaction. “LILLIE COULD FINALLY TOUCH POKEMON THANKS TO EVERYONE’S EFFORTS AND AGRGGHHHH!”

Pikachu and Greninja stood protectively as Satoshi tried to hold them back, giving the look that he deserved it. The two backed up but was ready just in case Gladion decided to hurt their trainer or something. Gladion grumbled. 

“OF COURSE YOU MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND!!! YOU’RE NEW TO THIS! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT LILLIE WENT THROUGH!! OF COURSE A FOREIGNER HAD TO RUIN IT! I KNOW THAT I SHOULDN’T TRUST YOU!!! I TOLD YOU THAT NEBBY WAS DANGEROUS AND NOW LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!!! IT’S ALL YOUR FUCKING FAULT!!!”

Satoshi kept quiet, remorse displaying on his face. “D-don’t blame Nebby… It’s still young… It doesn’t know what it's doing…”

“ISN’T THAT THE REASON WHY YOU WERE ENTRUSTED WITH NEBBY?! LOOKS LIKE THE CHOSEN ONE CAN’T DO SHIT PROPERLY!!! YOU PROMISED SATOSHI! YOU FUCKING PROMISED!!”

Satoshi flinched slightly when Gladion’s voice raised even more. A small timid voice mumbled, “I-i’m sorry…”

“YOUR FUCKING APOLOGIES WON’T SOLVE ANYTHING!!!”

“T-then what do you want me to do?” 

“NOTHING!!! JUST GET OUT OF IT!! JUST STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM LILLIE AND ME AND ANYONE ELSE!!! YOU CAN’T DO SHIT WITHOUT BRINGING IN TROUBLE!!!” 

And with that Satoshi finally broke down into ugly sobs. Pikachu and Greninja got furious and threatened to attack Gladion if he got too close. That was when the blonde finally realised what he had done. Satoshi just mumbled something, “I-i never wanted to be a trouble magnet… I-i’m sorry… Very well then, I won’t interfere anymore…” Satoshi just smiled sadly, ignoring the fact that he was crying and left. 

“H-hey Satoshi… W-wait…” Satoshi ignored him. Gladion slammed his fist on the nearby wall. “Arceus damnit…”

Satoshi did not eat anything after all, and Kukui was worried. Every time the professor tried to approach him, Satoshi would shut himself down, only allowing his Pokemon to comfort him. He was not in the mood for human interaction. Kukui sighed before passing him a note ‘If you need anything from me, I’ll be in the office, just remember to drink water and eat once you feel better :)’ Satoshi just nodded as Kukui got down from the loft so that Satoshi could have his privacy. 

Satoshi felt his phone buzz, ignoring the texts from Gladion or his Alolan friends. He just went to Gary’s contact and began texting.

Best_Gremlin: Hey Gary… Are you free to text?

Best_Ginger: ofc Sato, whats wrong?

Best_Gremlin: I messed up real bad! I was entrusted to take care of a young Ultra Beast and I got careless. Because of that Lillie got traumatised again and Gladion was freaking pissed at me! It’s all my fault! I don’t know what to do! It’s like the Kalos Crisis all over again! I really don’t know what to do!!

Best_Ginger: calm down… take a deep breath right now… can you do that for me?

Best_Gremlin: yea…

Best_Ginger: now listen carefully Sato… It’s not always your fault, you tried your best didn’t you? Everyone makes mistakes, what’s important is that you learn from it and try not to make it again… alright?

Best_Gremlin: But I can’t fix it! It doesn’t feel right…

Best_Ginger: How about we videocall rn? Will that help?

Best_Gremlin: I guess…

@ Best_Ginger started a call

“H-hey Gary…” Satoshi sniffled. “So sorry for bothering you…”

“It’s alright Satoshi, we’ve been friends since childhood! I am more than willing to be here when you need it… You’ve been through a lot as a kid,” Gary tried to reassure.

“B-but, but, it doesn’t give me an excuse to cause such a problem…”

“It was unintentional right? You didn’t mean it… So hey it’s okay! We can figure it out… Why don’t you take a deep breath first, and calm down…” Satoshi gave a hum, following Gary. Satoshi then spoke.

“H-how can I fix it?”

“You need to give it some time…”

“B-but…”

“Satoshi… this kind of thing you cannot just simply rush it!” Gary gently reminded. Satoshi just gave a tired sigh. “Also… About the Kalos Crisis… It wasn’t your fault… and I’ll keep reminding you that every time you start feeling guilty about something you didn’t do…”

Satoshi just let out a sad giggle. Gary smiled from his side, “How about we listen to a song… Music always calms me down… What’s your favourite song?”

Satoshi thought about it, and answered, his voice still quite soft, “Forwards Beckon Rebound by Adrianne Lenker… Alain played this song whenever I was crying…”

“Alright, we can play that. Anything else?”

“T-that’s all…”

Gary nodded as he played the song in the call. Satoshi listened to it as he leaned onto Greninja and Lycanroc. Pikachu and Rowlet was cuddling on his lap while Litten slept beside him. A calming melody from the guitar was very soothing.

Satoshi thought about the last 4 lines. It felt familiar. He never wanted to be viewed as a problem, something that would cause trouble towards others. He was a mere kid when it all happened. No innocent child should go through what he did. It was only when he met Kukui that he was comforted, he finally had a support system… Satoshi just stared blankly at the screen, listening to his friend singing for him. He felt sleepy and let out a soft yawn and his eyelids felt heavy.

Gary smiled when he looked at his screen to his friend sleeping peacefully, thanks to his wonderful singing. Before he hung up, he whispered “Goodnight Sato…”

Kukui was listening to their little music session and gave a soft smile before going up to the loft and draping his son in a soft blanket. He then kissed his son’s forehead before turning off all the light, only allowing the moonlight to shine through the window. Kukui gave one final look before going to his room, a sad smile displaying on his face.

 There was some sort of tension in the closed restaurant (It was closed for cleaning and ingredients check). The group sat at the round table, everyone tense and quiet, waiting for the Kantonese boy to arrive. Satoshi softly opened the door with Pikachu in his arms, feeling a bit worried about his surroundings. Nebby was sleeping in his backpack with Rowlet and the boy was just worried about it. Satoshi really did not want similar incidents to occur again. Fortunately,he was not that skittish compared to before. Thank Arceus for Gary’s therapy and emotional management. Satoshi sat down, still on video call with Gary. The boy really just wanted to watch how it goes. 

 “So… Gary is joining us?” Lillie confirmed and Satoshi nodded. “I-i hope you don’t mind…”

 “No no it’s fine!” Lillie reassured and the rest of the group nodded. Well almost all. Gladion avoided eye contact or even looking at his crush that he had hurt with his words, only to feel Lana glaring at him. Kiawe then began the conversation once Mallow finished cleaning the kitchen and prepared tea. 

 “I feel like you guys have an idea why we decided to host this meeting… This past week, everything was hectic and chaotic. So we need to settle the issue once and for all…” Kiawe started the conversation before turning to the Aether siblings then to Satoshi and Gary. “You guys may voice out your thoughts and feelings. Us, 4, will be giving support and will only get involved when the tension escalates.”

 Kiawe, Mallow, Lana and Sophocles all sat back, hoping that it would not escalate too fast. Satoshi took a deep breath before speaking first.

 “I-i’m sorry for what happened… If I was more careful, all of these problems would not happen. This is like the cri-... I’m sorry…” Satoshi mumbled, almost blurting out something that he had swore to himself not to think about. His eyes were full of remorse and guilt. He obviously had been blaming himself for it. Lillie could see it and an empathetic look formed on her face. “It’s alright Satoshi… It wasn’t your fault at all… Nebby has a mind of its own sometimes…”

 “Y-yea but still… Please don’t blame Nebby. Nebby is just a youngling. I should’ve watched it better!” Satoshi shook his head. Lillie looked at her brother, in hopes he would say something. 

 “Look Satoshi… What I said wasn’t the best… I wasn’t in the right mind… I’m sorry…” Gladion admitted and apologized. Lillie was expecting more but that would suffice for her but not for Satoshi's best friend. 

 “Is that all you could say?” Gary huffed through the screen. Annoyance was on full display. Satoshi immediately stammered, hushing his friend. “G-Gary…”

 “Hush Satoshi! Trust me…” Gary replied. “I need him to understand your point of view, or else I’m gonna strangle him.”

 “G-gary enough!” Satoshi yelled, silencing the rising tension between his childhood friend and Gladion. “He already apologized y-you ばか!”

 Only Gary knew what Satoshi had said…

 “E-excuse us… we need to talk about it first…” Satoshi apologized as he began talking to Gary in Kantonese (in our world Japanese)

 “シゲル、彼らは私の状況を知ることはできません！彼らが私を違う目で見るのが怖いです!! (Shigeru, they can't know about my situation! I'm scared that they would see me differently!!)”

 “彼らはサトシを理解する必要があります！ただ瓶に詰めるだけではだめですよ！彼らはあなたが密かに大丈夫ではないという事実をただ無視するでしょう！(They need to understand Satoshi! You can't just bottle it up! They will just ignore the fact that you're secretly not okay!)” 

 “だから秘密だったのよ!!! (THAT WAS WHY IT WAS A SECRET!!)” Satoshi raised his voice. 

 “Satoshi…”

 “I-i’m sorry…” Satoshi whimpered before receiving a hug from his sister figure from behind. Mallow hushed him while the others were told not to bother them. It took them a while before Satoshi had calmed down so the group decided to stop the talk for lunch. Gary had to leave the call as he had some assistant professor stuff to do. Satoshi was silently eating his food, deep in his thoughts while the rest chattered away. He was thinking about it and no matter how many times he was told that it was not his fault, he still believed that the Kalosian people should blame him. After all he was stupid enough to trust that he would bring peace to the very world that Arceus had created. 

 That man tried to ruin Arceus’s creations…

 Satoshi was jolted up from his thoughts when Mallow (his sister figure), shook him gently. The Kantonese boy could see the worried expression on her face before nodding as if they had some mutual telekinesis.

 You should tell us when you’re ready… You’re not alone… 

 But I have Professor Kukui…

 That’s true but what if the Professor isn’t here? Like right now?

 Like I said, when you’re ready…

 Satoshi nodded before focusing back on his food, only to find Gladion looking at him with guilt.

 Next up was a sharing session where everyone could express their worries, experience freely, and after everyone consent to it, they are able to trauma dump if they feel comfortable. After all, no one likes to receive trauma dumping unless they are both emotionally and mentally prepared for it. Mallow ensured that once everyone was prepared to listen about everyone's memories, fears and experiences.

 “Okay guys! Remember! What stays in this room, stays in this room!” Mallow reminded before the sharing session started. Kiawe started first.

 “The reason why I am so protective over Mimo was because she was getting picked on by older teenagers… One day, I found her all bruised up and scratched up. She was out cold for a couple of days. Until now, I still feel guilty for not being able to look out for my little sister. So now, I placed a vow to watch after her. I'm just glad she is doing better…” Kiawe confessed. Everyone gave empathetic looks and words of reassurance like ‘Mimo is lucky to have an awesome big brother like you!’ or ‘As an older sibling, I completely understand it. You're not alone in this Kiawe!’

 Lana went next. “I might seem that I hate my little sisters but I do indeed love them a lot though. But sometimes, I wished that they would give me privacy or space. I can't always deal with their chaos and every time when they get in trouble, I get scolded. As an older sibling, I must be able to look after them. Especially when I'm clearly fucking busy with school work. I just need a break sometimes…” 

 Lana huffed when she received a hug from Lillie and Mallow. She was clearly so sick and tired from her siblings' nonsense. “Hey Lana, if you need help watching over them, you can always call us to help!”

 “Thanks a lot…”

 Next up was Sophocles…

 “I used to be anorexic… Yea shocking isn't it? I couldn't take the teasing about my weight and I don't want to blame my mother for it. She cared for me dearly. She always make sure I get good food, and her cooking is delicious. But I couldn't bring myself to tell her that and slowly my self-esteem dwindled. So did my confidence… I-i would force myself to vomit after every meal and act like I'm full… It was only when my mom found out. W-we both cried that night… she wouldn't let me go and comforted m-me…” Sophocles teared up and sniffled. He wiped his eyes as Kiawe placed a gentle hand on his shoulder while Satoshi gave him a tight hug. 

 “D-don't listen to them!” Satoshi sniffled. “I-i'll beat them up if they continue!”

 “It's a-alright Sato! They stopped picking on me!” Sophocles reassured. 

 It was Mallow's turn:

 “As you know, when my mom passed away, my dad didn't know how to handle it. He became depressed and the restaurant was closed for weeks. We almost went bankrupt. It didn't help with my brother studying abroad. I didn't have anyone to rely on other than Lana… I-i sometimes blame myself for not being there for my dad… H-he tries his best to be a good father for the both of us though…” Mallow sighed as Lana gave her a hug. 

 “Yea… I remember how you wouldn't stop crying…” Lana sadly nodded. Mallow hummed in agreement before calming down. “It's alright now… He seems to be improving!”

 “That's great!” Satoshi smiled. 

 Afterwards, it was the Aether siblings. Both of them were venting about their mother, like how Lillie wanted her mother's attention instead of just pushing the poor girl away and how Gladion still felt guilty for his sister's trauma. 

 “As we all know, our relationship with Mother dwindled. She neglected our well-being in exchange for a ‘perfect’ family. I still love her, but sometimes, I just wish she wasn’t such a narcissist. It’s painful to be forced to look like her… I really hate it. But now, she hasn’t called for a few years. And I wonder if she still remembers me…” Lillie muttered, unsure on how to express her opinions on such issues, while Gladion added on. “Since Father had left, I felt Mother’s eyes all over me since I looked like him. She practices favouritism since I Iooked like him. She would give me more food than Lillie and I often had to secretly give her food. It got worse when we matured, so I left… I-i’m so sorry Lillie… and I-i’m so sorry for yelling at you Sato…”

 Lillie reassured him by hugging her brother tightly. Gladion felt forgiven again, his guilt subside for a while. The Aether Siblings hugged it out for a while, earning soft hums and coos from the rest. After a few minutes, they finally calmed down and prepared themselves for the last sharing done by Satoshi. Satoshi doesn’t know what to say. If I mention the Kalos Crisis, they might think that I’m a terrorist or something. I have to be wary about such topics… Satoshi took a deep breath, thinking that he’ll just mention about his mother but not about his involvement in the Kalos Crisis. After all, they didn't need to know everything, right?

 “アルセウス、くそっ…” Satoshi huffed before sharing. “My mother… wasn't really the best… She and my dad would argue all night. When my father became a fugitive and left us… S-she spiralled down into depression… She neglected my needs and the mere sight of me made her so pissed. She said, I looked too much like my father… And when I was 9 she gave me away…”

 “To an adoption centre right?” Mallow asked worriedly and her anxiety got worse when Satoshi did not answer. “Oh my…”

 “I-i’m not comfortable saying what happened after but the experience… let’s just say it wasn't the best…” Satoshi mumbled, earning nods and reassurance from the rest. He did not want them to know. They are not like Gary or Kukui. He didn’t want to scare them. So this was all they were going to get from him. Thankfully, his friend group understood…

 That evening, they were staying over at Mallow’s place with the permission of their parents since it was getting late. They were playing a board game while Gladion and Satoshi had a walk under the cooling sky. Gladion, not used to properly managing his emotions, was unable to show his guilty look even if he wanted to. So unfortunately for him, he had to fumble with his words so that Satoshi, a boy whose feelings were denser than Osmium itself, could understand and perhaps forgive him. 

 “Look Sato… What I said was hurtful… I never knew you had similar problems with us… S-so forgive me… I should’ve never been angry at you… I was just in fear that Lillie would go back to her old self… I don’t want that… I-i’m so, so sorry Sato…” Gladion apologised over and over until Satoshi hugged him. “I-it’s alright Glads… You have every right to be angry…”

 “B-but… it hurt you..”

 “I’m used to it…”

 That was concerning. Gladion thought to himself. 

 “D-do you want to talk about it?”

 Satoshi shook his head, a soft grin displayed on his face.

 “W-when I’m ready of course…”

 Both people were feeling the same thing (If only they knew). Their hearts were pounding in their chest, their faces flustered. Satoshi released the hug as they looked at each other before bursting into laughter. With a deep breath…

 “I love you!” They both confessed at the same time. Satoshi blinked a few times before his face became red as a tomato. So did Gladion. 

 “R-really Sato?”

 “Y-yea? You too?”

 “Yep!.. I do…”

 Satoshi hugged the emo blonde again, burying his face in the taller shoulder. Gladion just smiled, secretly jumping in joy. His crush actually forgave him and liked him back. Why was Satoshi so forgiving? Gladion wondered to himself as he gently patted the raven hair in his arms. I don’t deserve such an angel…

 “Whatever you’re thinking, stop it…” Satoshi huffed as he gently hit the blonde on the chest. Gladion shook his head, replying with a goofy grin and a teasing voice, “I’m only thinking about you~ Is that wrong?”

 Satoshi turned bright red again, falling for Gladion’s rizz (yes don’t come after me >:[ ). “N-no… So what does this make us?”

 “Boyfriends?”

 “Y-yea… That’ll be great…” A pause before Gladion spoke up. “C-can I kiss you o-on the forehead? Because m-maybe you aren’t comfortable-”

 Satoshi shut him up with a peck on the lips, a bold move coming from a boy who is shy as fuck. Gladion returned another kiss before they walked back. How fun… Later as per usual, in every sleepover there would be a gossip group session before sleeping, that was when Satoshi fumbled with his words and ended up accidentally announcing their relationship to the rest. Typical Satoshi. Mallow became protective over her little brother and glared at Gladion. 

 “If you snap at him again, I will not hesitate to cook you!” Mallow threatened earning a gulp from Gladion who was hugging his now boyfriend. “And I’m going to tell the Professor about your relationship”

 “Mallow no-” Satoshi stammered when his father almost threatened to file a restraining order on Gladion after coming home all depressed. Too late. Thankfully, Kukui was in a good mood and like any protective parent, he too had to give Gladion some threats, which made the poor blonde boy scared. Poor Gladion :3

 After waiting for a while, Gladion arrived at his boyfriend’s house and was expected to get tackled by his lover, which he obviously did. Satoshi had a little tent set up in the living room, over the sofa, with blankets and pillows, decorated with fairy lights. Satoshi leaned onto his boyfriends lap as he took out his phone, asking “I’m ordering lunch-”

 “No need, save your money for dinner, I bought lunch already,” Gladion hummed as he took out a plastic bag with two containers of fried rice. Satoshi giggled when Gladion pecked his cheek. “I knew you hadn't eaten lunch yet so brought some…”

 They decided to watch some Vocaloid concerts on the TV (which was recorded) since Satoshi just so happened to have a hyper-fixation over a Kantonese (Japanese) singing robot, which Satoshi doesn’t agree with. According to him, Vocaloids are practically instruments which humans can adjust to make a variety of music, with just adjusting the pitch, intonation, volume and so much more, thanks to the help of voice actors. Better than what AI could replicate. Gladion totally did not understand what they were singing but as long as his lover was happy, he could deal with it. 

 Gladion took a video of his lover singing along in Kantonese with the various Vocaloid songs. He then posted it on the groupchat, earning a whine from Satoshi. “Gladsssss!!!”

 Gladion nuzzled his head into his boyfriend's shoulder, acting a bit more clingy as he wanted Satoshi’s attention. He was a tad bit jealous to say the least. 

 “Gladsss,” Satoshi whined as he was showered with little kisses. In the relationship, many would think that Satoshi would be the more romantic type since he was more expressive and more emotional than Gladion, but in private, Gladion was the clear winner. The love-starved emo blonde was practically a natural charmer and often wanted his lover’s attention private. 

 “Pay attention cutie…” He huffed, making Satoshi roll his eyes playfully. They continued to watch the concert before playing console games, such as Just Dance and Overcooked 2 with their Pokemon somehow. Greninja seemed to be a pro at the game which amused Satoshi and shocked Gladion. Both of their Lycanrocs were sunbathing with Litten while Pikachu was trying his best to use the controller. This continued until dinner when Satoshi whipped out his phone to order take out. 

 “Gladss, what do you want to eat??” Satoshi yelled while Gladion was preparing Pokemon food. The blonde replied, “Anything love!”

 “Is Pizza and a side platter okay?” 

 “Yea!!”

 Satoshi orders a Medium Margherita pizza to share and a side platter, which consists of cheese fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and two small bowls of mushroom soup which comes with Garlic bread. It took a while for the food to come and Satoshi took the opportunity to make the sofa comfier which looked cute to Gladion. The food arrived which Gladion paid for and collected since Satoshi was making sure that his Pokemon were comfortable for a horror movie marathon. 

 “Wait, Glads, you didn’t use the money dad left for us?”

 “Are we supposed to?”

 “Yes!!”

 “Oh well, I don't mind spending money on you~” Gladion kissed him again, making Satoshi all flustered. It wasn’t their first date and yet Satoshi still gets flustered over such flirts. He placed the food on the coffee table when it began to rain. Satoshi closed all the windows and the skylight with the help of Gladion before turning on the air-conditioner to the lowest setting so that they won’t overheat in this house.

 Lusamine paced around her quarters, her eyes unfocused. She was so close to her goal. Faba did a very good job impersonating a villain and Silvally managed to reveal itself, healing Lillie’s trauma in the process. She was just one step closer, opening up with that one portal which allowed her to explore the Ultra World and achieve her ‘perfect’ family again. However, there are some things that she absolutely despised, like Gladion’s sexuality. The fact that the boy was dating the same gender made her extremely upset. Gladion was supposed to be with a girl. That was not how a ‘perfect’ family should be. Lillie was no exception. She was supposed to be prim and proper, not to get involved in any ANY dirty work. Lusamine grumbled to herself, allowing her to join the Pokemon School was a terrible mistake, but there’s no use crying over spilt milk. They were no longer her children. Was it disappointing? Yes it was to her, especially with them inheriting her ‘perfect’ appearance. But she had a new ideal family

 Lusamine had eyes on Satoshi for a while. After all, that boy was practically Lysandre’s ‘creation’, no matter how much he refused to accept it. That boy was given a potential Ultra Beast by their Island Guardians. She just needed the boy, the ‘failed yet successful’ creation of her former trading partner. Satoshi could become her son if she could mould him into believing it, which unfortunately, was impossible since Satoshi was adopted by Professor Kukui, a well known teacher and regional Professor. Lusamine let out a growl, all she wanted was a picture perfect family that everyone would idolise to be. That’s all she wanted with the addition of ruling the Ultra Dimension, giving her extreme power. She could disown her current children and find new ones that would fit in her ‘perfect’ image… 

 Lusamine grinned to herself. Yep that was what she wanted. She needed to get her hands on that Nebby first. So after ordering Faba to capture Nebby, she prepared the machine which allowed one to drain Nebby’s energy to open up a big enough wormhole for a singular Ultra Beast to slip through so that she could communicate with it and perhaps control it. Of course, it would not be a villainous process without the heroes interfering. Lillie, Gladion and Satoshi were searching for Nebby around the Aether Foundation when they found their poor Nebby screaming in pain as its power was being drained out by Lusamine and her accomplice, Faba. 

 “Mother! What the hell are you doing!?!” Gladion yelled as Satoshi stared at the cynical woman, with fear in his eyes. Why was he here?! He’s back! Someone help! 

 “Oh can’t you see Gladion, I’m bringing back the perfect family we once had before you two left!” Lusamine scoffed before her cat-like eyes went to Satoshi who was frozen in place. All her attention was focused on the Kantonese boy. “Hello Satoshi, do you remember me?”

 “Y-yea you’re Lillie and Gladion’s mother…” Satoshi stammered. Lusamine made the ‘tsk’ sound, her eyes trying to mask her glee. Gladion pulled his partner closer to him, his eyes glaring at his mother

 “You don’t remember me eh? Experiment #001-289” When Lusamine said that, Satoshi felt his airway tightening. His heart pounded quicker. He was frozen in place. A soft whimper escaped his lips, his eyes trying to avoid the prying expression of the woman

 “H-how?”

 “I was the one who helped him in exchange for the high technology he created, Experiment #001-289… the longest surviving experiment, almost allowing humans to truly understand the creatures we’ve been living with! Your existence has brought so many scientific breakthroughs amongst us companies!”

 The Aether Siblings looked at Satoshi for answers, only to see him quiet.

 “I-i didn’t mean to-... I am not some mere weapon!!”

 “Keep denying it #001-289, but we all know what you’re designed for.”

 Satoshi felt sick. He knew something was wrong with Lusamine, but his gut had never expected it to be that bad…

 “Satoshi, what is she talking about?’ Gladion worriedly rushed to his boyfriend, earning a chuckle from Lusamine. Satoshi couldn’t say anything, his body shivering slightly.

 “Your little boyfriend didn’t tell you?” Lusamine sneered, her eyes watching their every move. “He helped out with the Kalos Crisis! Our little terroris-”

 “STOP CALLING ME THAT!!!” Satoshi released Greninja from its Pokeball and ordered it to throw a Water Shuriken. Unfortunately, one of Faba’s pokemon, Hypno, used Psychic to move Lusamine away just in time. The cynical woman shook her head, her grin still sickening displayed. She broke out into laughter, a very shrill one too, almost similar to that stupid Lysandre… Satoshi could see the resemblance. Gladion order Silvally  to battle alongside his lover against his psychotic mother.

 “SEE I TOLD YOU GLADION!! HE ATTACKED ME FOR NO REASON!”

 “YOU AGGRAVATED HIM, LUSAMINE!”

 Lillie took the opportunity to sneak away to free Nebby from its chains. She fiddled with the control panel, fumbling with every button “Alakazam! Use psychic!” With that order Lillie was pushed away, landing her and snowy between an incoming attack. 

 “LILLIE!!!” Gladion yelled as a Pokemon came rushing towards her. Satoshi took this opportunity. As if he and Greninja had some telepathy, Greninja came rushing in, pushing Lillie away from the attack, getting scratched in the process. Greninja place the two in a safe area away from the battle

 Satoshi was so so SO done with the woman, and with a determined look with Greninja, they activated their signature bond phenomenal, surprising Gladion, amusing Lusamine and excited Lillie. 

 “AHAHAH!!! SO THIS IS WHAT THE BOND PHENOMENON LOOKED LIKE UP CLOSE!!! IT’S SO FASCINATING!!!” Lusamine grinned, bursting into laughter. “And since Lysandre is dead, I hope he doesn’t mind me keeping Experiment #001-289~”

 “STOP CALLING ME THAT!!” Satoshi yelled as he ordered Greninja to throw a massive Water Shuriken at Lusamine and her pokemon out of anger. Much to his disappointment the woman dodged it and hit the equipment, stopping whatever the machine was doing to Nebby. 

 Lillie rushed up to catch Nebby, after having to overcome her fear of touching Pokemon. Gladion pulled Satoshi from the battle and grabbed his sister along. “There's no use fighting now! We have Nebby! Let's go!”

 Satoshi looked back at the groaning woman before leaving the place quickly. After fleeing Aether Paradise, the trio rested up at the beach. Thank Arceus for Silvally’s super fast swimming.

 Gladion was drinking a bottle of water while Lillie was tending to Satoshi's cuts. The blonde siblings had many questions for the raven haired boy sitting in front of them. Gladion cleared his throat before leaning onto his boyfriend, tiredly. “Sato… what did Lusamine mean just now?”

 “I-i don't want to say… y-you might hate me…”

 “We won't…

FLASHBACK

 Click clack click clack, The sound of stilettos echoed in the silent hallway. Lusamine walked along the hallway, followed by some other scientist. It was a secret yet important meeting which allowed her to be a step closer to her goal. 

 “Ah, Lusamine. Welcome to Lysandre Labs, I hope your journey here was rather pleasant…” Lysandre greeted as he welcomed the woman with open arms. The meeting was in a viewing room, above the operation room, where experiments were conducted. Lusamine sat on the soft chair opposite of Lysandre, in between them a coffee table with two cups of tea and some titbits. Lusamine’s eyes noticed the experiment which was in progress.

 “Still not done experimenting?” Lusamine inquired as she faced the red haired man in front of her. Lysandre chuckled as he took a sip of his fancy Kalosian tea. “I took a break from such experiments, since I do not have test subjects… Just recently, while trying to find the endless possibilities Pokemon could achieve with humans… I found a rather neglected boy who seems to understand what Pokemon could say…”

 Lusamine gave a nod as she put down the copy of blueprints of machines that were designed for detecting unique energy sources. “So in exchange for this, I would like a copy of that energy absorbing technology…”

 “Deal… Now would you like to see my proudest creation…”

 Lysandre brought Lusamine’s attention to the glass panel which was actually a one way mirror. The two megalomaniacs watched the experiment which consisted of a certain 12 year-old Kantonese boy in sync with his Pikachu and Frogedier, something that can only be achieved by a veteran Pokemon Trainer/ Master. The boy somehow was able to use Aura related moves, such as Aura Sphere.

 “So the kid must be one of the descendants of the fabled Aura Knights from the Sinnoh Region?” Lusamine asked as she meticulously watched the battle.

 “Not just that… but for some reason, the kid just so happens to have Arceus’s Blessing… Something that was only told in legends…” Lysandre added as he gave the picture and tablet to Lusamine. There was a little Arceus symbol birthmark on the boy’s back as well as the known DNA of Arceus in him. Lysandre began chuckling, malice could be heard in his voice, “That kid is the key to unlocking many many hidden potentials!”

Lusamine was intrigued and with a soft laugh, she asked. “What’s his name?”

“Legally, it’s Satoshi Ketchum… but to ensure the public doesn’t know, Experiment #001-289…”

SATOSHI’S POV as he began telling his childhood to Lillie and Gladion

 I could remember when that red-haired man took me in from the neglectful clutches of my mother. He brought me all the way to Kalos, where I met Froakie, now Greninja, who was badly bruised and abandoned by its previous trainer. Obviously, I had to care for him. Lysandre, the man who started the Kalos Crisis and the Leader of the terrorist organisation -Team Flare- manipulated me into believing that all humans are the cause of Pokemon being injured and stuff. Silly 10 year old me believed his lies. 

 I was told to not question anything no matter how depriving and degrading it was since Lysandre told me that it was all for the name of good. That man gave me a room, a simple bedroom for a kid but it felt like a prison cell. However, sometimes, at night, he would allow me to sleep in his personal quarters… It was an experience… something a child should never go through. Until now, I could still feel his hands all over me, in a sickening way. The scars all over my thighs and wrists were caused by his ‘rough play’... I just want to vomit blood whenever I remember the details. Lysandre would bruise me and I would be sore the next morning… Young me thought that it was okay, since Lysandre said so. Hence, I… unfortunately, dealt with it. To be fair, growing up in a love deprived household, I thought that what Lysandre did to me on those nights was a way of showing that he cared and appreciated my existence… I guess not… 

 He and a group of scientists often conducted tests on me… before I went out on a journey around Kalos to collect mega evolution data. I didn’t know that it was meant to assist him in destroying the world. Anyways, the experiments got worse and way more painful, till the point I wished for the sweet relief of death, when I achieved the bond phenomenon with Greninja. I don’t remember anything after every experiment… I have a feeling that I lost some important memories of something that I’ve unlocked…

 Alain helped me snap out from the delusion and manipulation. I realised what he had done and immediately felt guilty… Until now I still felt that it was my fault… I’m sorry…

 The Aether siblings felt a pang of pity in their heart as the Kantonese boy told his story. Their pity worsened when Satoshi began crying silently, begging for forgiveness from the two. Gladion hugged his boyfriend tightly, rage silently boiling in him. The fact that a grown ass man touched his lover made him so pissed to the point that he would kill the man over and over in the most gruesome way again until Satoshi felt better. Lillie too hugged her classmate, empathy building in her. Satoshi was similar to her… It was no wonder that she easily accepted him as a future brother-in-law. The three just stayed in that position for a good 10 minutes until Satoshi’s sobs turned into soft sniffles. 

 “Hey, Satoshi?” Gladion gently cupped Satoshi’s face, making sure the amber eyes watched his green eyes. “I will make sure no one ever touches you like that… If anyone does, I will not hesitate to torture and kill them… I will also do the same if something ever happens to Lillie…”

 The blonde teen pulled his sister and his lover into a tight hug. “I will protect you two with my life…”

 It was getting late, and Lillie did not really want to go back to her home in fear that her mother might find her. Hence, Satoshi invited them to stay with him and Kukui for the time being. Of course, being the best professor ever, Kukui allowed them to stay until they felt safe to go back to their homes. The three made space in the loft, making sure that Lillie had her personal space and barrier between them, since none of them wanted to sleep on the ground floor, before dozing off into a restful night.

Kukui was worried, sickeningly worried. He was worried for his son, worried for his students. Lusamine had gotten them involved in a crisis with a Pokemon from another dimension! Something humans were not supposed to mess with. Kukui had never, NEVER, seen his son so angry when Nebby evolved into a comatose form because of Lusamine’s selfish, greedy, cynical attitude. And the fact that the Pokemon was targeting his son and Lillie, and almost succeeded in capturing one of them (Lusamine got herself captured by that beast), just made the Professor so, so worried. His adopted son was not here that morning and Kukui thought that maybe, just maybe, that he had left for school earlier than usual. The look on his face when Satoshi wasn’t there said it all. Where could his son be…?

Meanwhile

“May I ask, why did we bring my boyfriend again?” Gladion grumbled as the 3 of them rode on Silvally to Poni Island. Lillie huffed, “Amongst the 3 of us, Satoshi is the only one who knows how to communicate to Pokemon,”

Satoshi sighed as he held Pikachu in his arms while the Aether siblings were bickering. The three of them were heading to Poni Island, as that was where the Altar of the Sun was located. It was also the site where the Ultra Wormhole last opened. The three of them finally landed at the entrance of the ancient ruins. The intricate carvings nearly faded from the exposure to the weather and lush vines had implanted themselves into the cracks of the rock walls. Some of the pillars had been corroded and now the ruins were frozen in time, slowly returning back to mother nature. Satoshi looked around in awe, silently appreciating the silent history of the ruins. As they walked up the ancient carved stairs, Lillie began telling fables regarding the place as they trotted along. While Gladion ignored his sister’s story-telling as he was looking out for any possible traps, Satoshi listened closely, asking questions along the way. At least someone was entertained by his sister’s rambling

The three of them came across 3 statues of Alolan starter Pokemon; Litten, Rowlet and Popplio, and in front of them was a large door. Lillie exclaimed, jolting the two boys, “We need to push the right statue to open the door!”

Gladion just gave an exasperated sigh while Satoshi tried to reason with her, “A-are you sure Lillie? The statues seemed to be fixed there… a-and the door is made out of-”

“YES I AM VERY SURE!!”

Gladion just pushed the large wooden door and it opened, without any difficulties. It left Lillie stunned and Satoshi amused.

“B-but what?” Lillie sighed, a sad aura surrounding her. Satoshi curiously wanted to push the statues too and before Gladion could stop him, the 13 year old Kantonese boy had pushed the Rowlet statue. A set of stone spikes sprung up, nearly hitting Satoshi who was pulled back by Greninja and Pikachu, thanks to their quick reaction.

He grinned as Greninja picked him up and put him on its shoulders, before following Silvally. Satoshi continued to admire the ruins as they travelled and crossed the cliff before ending up in an enclosed room filled with intricate carved pillars and walls.

“What’s that Pokemon, Lillie?” Satoshi asked as he pointed to the dragon looking pokemon who was peeking from behind one of the pillars. Lillie flipped through her Pokemon book and answered. “Oh it’s a-”

The Hakamo-o launched an attack, catching the trio off guard. Greninja pulled Satoshi and Pikachu aside as Silvally managed to protect Lillie and Gladion. Satoshi requested Pikachu to use Thunderbolt while Gladion ordered Silvally to use slash.

“It seemed bigger than the one in the pictures,” Lillie commented as she compared the picture to the real deal. Gladion thought about it for a while before realising that the Pokemon they were facing was a Totem Pokemon. The Hakamo-o launched a series of attacks and the surrounding infrastructure became unstable (like my sanity) The ceiling collapsed and a large piece of rock was falling, right above Satoshi. Greninja wasn’t fast enough to dodge. Just when the three was about to meet their fate,

The rock was immediately cut into fine bits. All of them fled the ruins and stepped foot on the Altar itself

“Satoshi!” The Kantonese boy could hear Kukui calling out to him. He turned around only to be tackled by the Professor. Kukui was crying?

The poor professor had a heart attack when he couldn’t find his foster son that day. He was so worried, heck, he did not know what to do if anything were to happen to his dear son. Kukui was glad to the core that Arceus decided to be merciful that day. He held his son tightly in his embrace, feeling his heartbeat beat against his. Satoshi was alive and that made him extremely glad.

“Satoshi, you’re safe, don’t scare me like that!” Satoshi could have sworn that he heard Kukui’s voice tremble. Slowly, he began to smile, feeling the comfort his father provided, “H-hey dad!”
