Serendipity

Summary:

The absolute dread of discovering a new feeling

Or;

what makeup does to a fella

Work Text:

Cameron was stuck in a.. well, a situation.

Certainly not an unpleasant one, but it's not exactly a pleasant one either, since it draws a massive blow to his ego and cuts a massive hole through his ‘bad boy’ persona.

His friend was applying makeup on his face. Why? For, quote unquote, ‘funsies!’ She says. He doesn't mind having ‘funsies’, though he only gets the feeling in the form of games, debates, and more of the sort where he can best people at, he loves the rush and exhilaration he gets from the victory over his opponent.

But makeup? Makeup is far from being a game, and definitely not one that can be won. So the true question here is; why did he say yes?

Is the makeup at least good? Right now, his cheeks were being lightly brushed with a soft, pastel pink blush. Or was it hot pink? He doesn't think either of them are his color, but whatever makes the girl in front of him happy. No, hold on, he has it all wrong, he's missing the point—and totally abandoning his ‘bad boy' persona.

“Stay the hell still if you want this to look good!” Nikki shouted at him in faux-anger.

So the question of why he said yes appears yet again.

Could it be that he was somehow tricked? No, couldn't be, she didn't appear to be equipped with anything that could've tricked him. And he's smart; smarter than her, so he couldn't have been tricked by her! But aren't tricks meant to deceive? Could it be that she’s a genius and that he was actually being tricked into thinking he wasn't tricked but is actually tricked? No, he's being paranoid, could it be that he's gone insane? So insane to the point where he lets makeup be applied on him, a totally masculine man? No, that doesn't seem plausible either.

So, could it be that he's grown soft?

“Hellauurr?? Earth to Cammy?” The girl in front of him sighed, snapping her fingers at him.

It was the third snap that finally spooked him out of his thoughts. He blinked, seemingly forgetting he was having makeup applied on him with his mind occupied.

“Apologies, come again?” He raised a brow, confused.

“I was literally just telling you your makeup was done!” She held a mirror in front of him, showing him his beauty in all its glory.

..He didn't look bad.

Though, yes, the blush definitely wasn't his color, she somehow made it all work. The eyeshadow wasn't at all harsh, the blush was vibrant yet it blended in, the lipstick was perfect, and the eyeliner was on fleek! He'd give the look a 8/10. Maybe a 9.

“So? What do you think?” Nikki asked, wanting to receive praise for her work.

“I don't look half-bad. I’d say you nailed it with this one, Nik.” He smiled, admiring himself in the mirror.

“Well, you know me! I love perfecting my art.” She chuckled.

It was refreshing to see him like this, if she were being honest. Laid-back, not being so tense all the time. She figures it must be weighing having to keep up a fake personality all the time, and being blind to the chance to ever shine.

So since these moments were rare, she let him have his silence, leaving him with time to appreciate his reflection.

Right before she teased;

“D’ya mind if I took a lil’ picture?”

“Do NOT.”
