Chapter Text
Teto Kasane groaned as she ran along the halls of Vocaloid Academy alongside her twin brother Ted, who was worried about how much he's gonna hurt when they got home.
"You just HAD to have TWO bowls of Lucky Charms, huh?" Teto growled. Ted jumped over a student's backpack left carelessly in the halls as they hauled ass to class. "I'm sorry Teto! I thought I had time!" Ted shouted back. They finally made it to their class just as the late bell rang and their teacher readied herself to take a head count of her students, Teto speeding to her seat behind Miku Hatsune. Miku turned and smiled happily as her friend sat.
"Hey, Teto! Another two-bowl morning?" Miku smiled. Teto groaned again, shaking her head as her red curly pigtails flew around her face.
Ted turned around from his seat in front of Miku to face Teto. He grinned shakily and waved at his Twin sister. She gave him a sarcastic smile and waved lamely, which caused him to roll his eyes and turn away from the middle finger she was flashing him.
Their teacher, Ms. Greene, walked in, sitting on her chair and beckoning something or someone to come in.
"Students!" Everyone turned to the teacher with wide eyes as she rapped her ruler on the desk to gain their attention. Students stopped gossiping, laughing, and talking merrily in utter fear of the bird-looking woman.
"Today we are getting new students, and I expect all of you ungrateful brats to have some respect for your peers for once." Ms. Greene scowls, and her remark elicits eye rolls and tiny snickers from some of the crueler students waiting to scope out the fresh meat to torture.
"You can come in now, children." Her voice goes from angry and scornful to light and honey-sweet as she opens the door for the new kids to enter though...and then, they walked in, the people that would change the love lives of some of the Vocaloids as they knew it (at least that's how it seemed to feel as they entered the room).
"Come in, don't be shy, my dears. There's a few seats behind Len over there." Ms. Greene regards them with a razor-edged smile before she frowns and zeroes in on a boy reading in class.
"Mr. Kagamine!" She bellows. The class erupts in laughter as a blond boy with doe-looking blue eyes and thick glasses looked up from his book and nearly jumped out of his skin at the yelling of his name. His sister Rin face-palms with a groan at the stupidity of her bookish brother as the students huddled together and filed into the seats available. The only one who didn't was a short girl with honey blonde hair curled into soft, princess-like curls and a crooked yet beaming smile.
"You can sit right next to Mr. Kagamine, my dear girl; that's the only seat left, anyway." Ms. Greene regards her with a tight smile, clearly trying to seem nice but also clearly growing more and more impatient with the small girl. Seeming intimidated by the teacher, the blonde hurried over to her new seat, shrinking far into her seat and putting her backpack on her chair as swiftly and quietly as she could. Len frowned, seeming to pity the clearly nervous girl as he leaned over and tapped her desk to get her attention while Ms. Greene went right back to droning.
"A real piece of work, ain't she?" L;en whispered to her, smiling a bit when he heard her try to giggle quietly.
"She seems nice." She laughs out, and he snorts.
"Yeah, sure she does, and the Evil Queen totally didn't wanna kill Snow White." Len quips, and the girl giggles at his remark. However, before he could ask her name. Ms. Greene rapped her ruler on the deks again with a tight-lipped frown.
"Attention please." She ground out, and the two blondes conversing straightened in their seats and turned to her with wide eyes.
"I want to familiarize the new students with the annual entry exam we have, so I'm going to ask," She grounds out the word 'ask' through her yellow teeth. "That you keep your mouths shut and listen." With nothing else to really do, the students comply, though a few are genuinely terrified and a few are trying to swallow their giggles so they don't get busted.
"Each new student needs to sing one song they know, or wrote for the exam, and the Principal will decide where to place you in ranks." She said, turning away from the students, beginning to write on the board.
"The ranks are Vocaloid, Utau, and Utaite. Utaites are accepted into the school, but will need extra training in singing if they place in that rank." She said, writing down the definitions of the other two ranks on the board, clearly expecting the class to take notes (a head's up would've been nice, lady).
"Utaus still need extra coaching, but are as good as the Vocaloids. Utaus and Utaites, understandably, are usually younger than those place in the Vocaloid rank," She said, writing definitions down at a speed so fast that the students who were taking notes could barely keep up. "Even still, we've had a few young Vocaloids in the past; Rin and Len Kagamine are a great example." She said with a tight smile, her red white-board marker pointing at Len and his sister Rin. Rin blew fake kisses and ate up all the attention given for you for that second, but Len rolled his eyes and couldn't seem to care less.
"If you are placed in the Vocaloid rank, there is a good chance you will end up with a scholarship." She said, her eye twitching at the growing volume of the class when she mentioned 'Scholarship'.
"However, that also depends on if you can keep your grades up until the end of your time at our school, and we all know how unmotivated your generation can be." The class all seemed to groan in unison at that remark, seemingly already used to the 'my generation is better than your generation' spiel. Please, just please.
"So if you really want that scholarship, I'd better not catch any F students wandering around in my class." She said with a small professional sneer, pointing a ruler at a few dozen teens, one of them being one of the new kids who had cherry red hair and was snickering unabashedly at one of her friends. Once she was done with intimidating her students for her own sick amusement, she capped her marker and plunked it down on her desk before crossing her arms and staring down her students.
"Well, that's about all the new students need to know; The exam is two months from now, so if you want to debut an original song by the 2 month mark, you best get started now." She said. The veteran students cheered and talked excitedly amongst themselves, but the group of new students seemed to ooze with nervousness as they swapped identical, terrified looks.
"Oh, and one more thing," She said, casting a glare at the kids before she slammed her ruler down on the desk so hard the sound echoed and bounced around the walls and scared the living daylights out of the occupants of the class.
"NO GUM CHEWING!" She bellowed, making every kid (yes, even the good ones) flinch in fear all over again.
Here's to a new year, everyone...
