Work Text:
By the decree of our king, Cassilda may no more sing.
Only sorrow is her voice to bring by the dim suns beneath our seas.
Lost like the cloud waves that dry and die in the breeze,
such is the fateful cost to appease
our land’s sallow, royal disease.
Carcosa’s moons will circle the skies and outshine her silent cries
before even their chance to rise. Stranding at the will of the elite,
that is the atrocity of those long, shadowed streets.
Never a soul will she greet,
but forever, she may feel her heart beat.
You’re left without kin, dear Camilla. It would do you good, just to kill a
moment or two; all to fill the gaping hole left by grief.
And well within reach, though our retreat may be brief,
you may yet find relief,
in the wake of joy’s thief.
Black stars shine over my entreat, leaving not one passerby to peek.
Only you and me, if we’re to meet. Camilla, who needs a thrill,
would you dare to walk the streets of Yhtill?
Where conscience stills
and darkness stirs its will.
A startling question to ask, but be assured, I wear no mask.
I want nothing but to bask in the city I adore.
Fallen off the map, despite such beauty to explore.
Your warmth it may restore,
just to walk along the shore.
Such an invite, to wander for a night,
but the seaside is such a delight. Lovely is our city of Yhtill,
though Carcosa’s winds may chill.
I’ll bring you a coat, I will,
and we’ll dance across these sandy hills.
Curfew calls, and though he may bellow, fear not The King in Yellow,
for he really can be mellow when he finds the reason right.
He sees that your heart is burning, a vibrant, glowing light.
That in mind, I hope you might
join me in town tonight.
