Chapter Text
If you are interested in doing workskins there are lots of tutorials that are much better written than I can do, but the basic steps are:
1. create your own work-skin. Yes there are some that are public, but if you want to include multiple lines of formatting, then you should create your own, probably specific to the fic. You can keep adding on to the bottom as you find other parts of formatting that you want to include. I will link directly to where I found the workskin code if I used someone else's but what I do is copy the code into my own workskin, so that I can have multiple forms.
2. When you publish your fic, just choose your newly created work skin.
This first chapter will be a link to work skins that I have used in my fics that were created by other people. As I create some original ones, they will have their own chapter.
A Guide with links to tons of basic formatting that requires NO workskin including links, images, gifs, colors, borders, etc.
Workskins developed by others that I have used in my fics
Texting / Whatsapp formatting, as seen in "Golden Girls Garden Club", "Mr. Bones Wild Ride", "Let it Sew", "Chili's ReMix" - Original formatting by Azdaema - I've modified this somewhat, but I *think* this is the original code that I used.
- I used the basic formatting (sent and received) and added in images for the header and pfps. I find that this works best when doing a chat between two people. When doing group chats, look for a different format, unless you want to deal with profile pictures all the way down the fic (which gets very tedious). To insert the profile pics, I created a long/wide png with a transparent background, and put the right side, and another with the received pfp on the left side. I just put those right above the first text they send, and then just rely on the send/receive to clue people in on who is sending what.
Post-it note, as seen in "Let it Sew" - Formatting by La_Temperanza - I used this with zero modifications
Mind & Brain Boxes as seen in "Let it Sew" - Original formatting by La_Temperanza. Originally a white box created for "deadpool" - I modified the background to a pale yellow for Nick and a pale blue for Charlie. (This is easily done by changing the 5 digit color code in the workskin, and making a new name. the original work skin was .wbox and I very originally copied/pasted it 2 times in my workskin to make a .ybox and .bbox with different color codes.)
Discord Group Chat as seen in "Let it Sew", "Chili's Remix" - (GitHub Link), Original formatting by @wovenstarlight - I used this with no modifications. Profile pics must be hosted elsewhere and added in.
Email window as seen in "Let it Sew", "Chili's Remix" - Formatting by La_Temperanza - This didn't work perfectly for me, but it worked well enough. You may be able to get it to format better.
Newspaper Article #1, as seen in "Chili's Remix" - works better for longer newspaper articles. Splits into 3 columns for desktop, 1 for mobile. Short articles don't work as well in the desktop version.
Reddit layout, as seen in "Chili's Remix" - Used with no changes
Found Documents (Newspaper2, Typed documents, hand written document) as seen in "Chili's Remix" - used with no changes
