Work Text:
As someone who was reincarnated into Genshin you could already speak the language, which differs from Traveler who had to learn the language to communicate with others. One thing you learned is that all countries in Teyvat speak different languages. Universally they all speak Teyvatian which is similar to English, but they also have a native language their cultures are based on in the real world.
That brings us to today.
You intended to visit Gorou to learn Japanese. You’ve desired to learn more about the language since you first had seen anime as a child. What better way to learn a language than from a native speaker? Gorou had a day off which was rare, but he said he would teach you his native language. You knocked on the door nervously waiting for him to answer. You never were generally great at learning other languages, however you were prepared to give it another try, since this language piqued your curiosity. While in the middle of your thoughts you didn’t hear the door open. Gorou snapped in your face, shaking you out of your daze.
“Name, are you with me?” His ears tilted sideways matching his puzzled expression.
“Hello. Oh, Good Morning Gorou.” You waved at him before entering the house. You went to sit at the table pulling out your notebook while he sat across from you waiting. Once you were ready you waited on him to begin. He started with giving you simple phrases such as greetings and the time of day.
You practiced saying them with him repeatedly until you saw him nod. Soon after you worked on sentences, he gave you simple sentences to copy and the meanings above it. You did your best to copy the phrases. When you would do it wrong, he frowned and showed you how to write it. After a while you took a break.
Your head banged on the table as you groaned in frustration.
You heard Gorou laugh. “It’s not funny.” He laughed harder, making you sit up. His green eyes watched with enjoyment as you scowled. You remembered how some languages would give you a headache; and you would look up the solutions online to at least pass the class.
“I’m doing my best, it’s just hard to grasp.” You replied. Maybe fresh air would help you study better? You opened the screen door and went to sit outside on the porch of his house. You inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly to quiet your mind, and get rid of your frustrations. When you open your eyes, you observe crystal flies flying around the yard.
Every now and then they take a break and halt sitting on the flowers. You heard someone take a seat next to you. You turned to see Gorou crossing his arms with a pout. Is he trying to not scare the crystal flies away? “Gorou you good?” His ear twitched. His face loosened up as he turned to face you.
“Yeah I am.” He said, sounding a bit tense. He looked conflicted about wanting to scare the crystal flies away or not. “I never had the chance to thank you for the lessons or ask if you want to rest instead of teaching me today.”
“I’m sorry for showing up so last-minute.” You rambled off nervously at the end. You gripped the bottom of your shirt.
“As I said before, it’s fine. I was planning on inviting you over anyway.” As he looked to the side, ears turned red. You turned over to look at him.
The petals of the trees fell perfectly in line. Gorou’s face turned bright red. “How come?” He fully faced you leaning in and pressing his lips gently to your cheek. “Will you go out with me?”
