Chapter 1: The Prologue

Chapter Text

“She isn’t my sister anymore,” growled out the child cradled in Silco’s arms. He was stunned and yet once more, he saw the world from his brother's eyes. It wasn’t a decision or even a thought really; just purely emotions. His body reacted to her on impulse, how could he forsake her again?

This is where you live?” asked Powder with an incredulous look, Silco coughed out a chuckle that even surprised him. ‘Vander couldn’t help but to spoil that face,’ he thought as he patted her head walking off to resume his duties. Leaving the girl’s care up to his newly pointed right hand Sevika who begrudgingly took Powder under her wing, she followed Silco to be a warrior of change not a babysitter but she wouldn’t dare complain after the night they had. As Silo flung his weary body into his chair he turned around to look out at Zaun. Tonight he had lost his brother and stripped Zaun of its weakness. He never meant it to become this but now he had nothing left to hold him back. And yes, while he had taken the girl in, he had zero intention to nurture or care; he was not going to become Vander’s replacement, only Zaun had that privilege.

“Loneliness is often a by-product of a gifted mind,” Signed grimaced aloud though he did not expect to ignite the young boy’s eyes. Before he even knew it, he was gifted a shadow, an extra pair of tiny hands followed by a frail voice revering him as ‘doctor.’ He was a man of science but he was first a father and he couldn’t just leave such a mind to waste away. Thus he nurtured the boy’s talents when allowed however the boy lacked resolve, something only time can teach. He called Singed methods inhumane and left once he could no longer save Rio.

Time waits for no one and takes without remorse, Viktor thought he understood this but was soon reminded of its gravity. A gas leak was a regular occurrence in the undercity and Viktor’s parents, hard working and stubborn, ignored it and worked with the dream of giving their son a future he deserved. However as time crept on so did the gas to their alveoli, they tried to ignore it as they couldn’t afford a doctor or time off.

This selfless act would leave young Viktor an orphan, cripple and alone in the undercity.

Finally he understood what the doctor meant and found himself once again at the cave entrance.
