For my dear Harry

Summary:

Harry Potter removed his invisibility cloak at the top of the Great Dining Hall, simultaneously summoning the wands of everyone present, death eaters and Light Wizards, and setting them on fire.
Amidst the screams and complaints, only two people realised what was wrong.
Just a minute ago, everyone present had cast the 'point me' spell to find Harry Potter. None of them had given a result.
So either all the spells had failed, which was impossible, or that young man who looked and spoke like Harry Potter, was not Harry Potter.

Notes:

I had, technically, promised to publish a story from another of my collections. But I didn't even start writing it and this plot got stuck in my head for a month, so here you go.
WARNING
This story is quite sad, a bit similar to my first story, Christmas Dinner. They are not related but it's more or less the same kind of sad.
If you don't like it, don't read it.
Also, the ending won't be an extremely happy one, but it won't be a sad or open ending.
So read at your own discretion.
The work is already finished so I will upload between one and two chapters per week.
I'm a softie and I cried writing this, so I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 1: That's not Harry

Chapter Text

The war had gone on for too long. The people, silenced and suppressed by Lord Voldemort's dark regime, no longer had the strength to fight. Still, in a last-ditch effort for freedom and a better future, the Order of the Phoenix along with the students and teachers of Hogwarts raised their wands one last time against Lord Voldemort's regime in an attempt to bring peace.

It was the second of May 1997. Oddly, until this day, few wizards and witches had died because of Lord Voldemort. Yet, even with all the adults in good physical condition, casualties could not be avoided. The first years who had been banned from fighting in this battle, the Battle of Hogwarts, had managed to come out to fight and now their bodies lay in the corridors of the castle.

The battle had gone on long enough. The Order of the Phoenix, along with the teachers and older, able students, had been cornered by the Death Eaters in the Great Hall. Harry Potter, accompanied by Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley had just entered the room, holding a broken golden goblet, a silver tiara with its central gem dripping with a black substance and the head of a snake.

The battle continued for some time. Spells were cast by both sides, some more lethal than others, as both groups tried to kill or incapacitate as many of their opponents as possible. The new arrivals approached Dumbledore to show him their spoils, but the smirk was short-lived.

Voldemort entered the room. He closed the doors behind him.

“HARRY, HIDE!” was the first thing heard after the ceasefire caused by Lord Voldemort's appearance. Dumbledore was the one who had shouted these words, in an attempt to protect young Harry from what would be certain death the moment the dark lord laid eyes on the boy.

Harry, heeding his headmaster, took the invisibility cloak from his pocket and pulled it over his scrawny, disheveled body, making himself completely invisible to the sight of all present.

Voldemort simply makes a strange grin-like grimace, but with too many teeth, “Where do you think you're going, Potter? The doors are locked, and this room isn't big enough to run away from me forever!”

The Death Eaters laugh, and Harry's allies raise their wands, ready to strike the moment their savior’s position is revealed.

It's not long now. Voldemort raises his wand and performs the simplest, yet most effective spell to find Harry. Still grinning, Voldemort places his wand in his flat hand and utters “Point me Harry Potter”

With a smile, Voldemort looks at his hand to see in which direction his wand is pointing and, therefore, in which direction the boy who lived is. Only the wand doesn't move.

With the smile now gone from his face, the Death Eaters look at the scowl on their master's face, stopping laughing and watching carefully as the serpentine man looks around, checking that all the doors and windows are properly closed. Once secured, the man casts the ‘Point me Harry Potter’ spell again.

The wand remains inert in his hand, almost as if mocking his master.

At their master's increasingly irritated appearance, the Death Eaters begin to pull out their own wands, placing them in their own hands and casting spell after spell in search of the missing Harry Potter.

At the various murmurs caused by the Death Eaters performing the ‘Point me’ spell, members of the order, faculty and student body begin to worry. No one has heard Potter perform any spells, or break any doors or windows to escape, but even so, an urgent concern begins to settle among them, and the idea that their hero has abandoned them begins to cause a collective panic.

No one knows who started first, but before long, all the allies of the boy who lived and the light side begin to cast the various locator and tracking spells, just as their enemies are doing. None of the spells yield any results.

Finally, even Harry's closest friends, his godfather, Sirius Black, and his potions teacher and current headmaster, Severus Snape, begin to cast the spell. It is to no avail either.

It was Voldemort who first stopped looking for the boy and began to speak, “You see, Dumbledore. Even your golden child has abandoned you. Everyone knows that this little rebellion ends today, and there is nothing you can do to win”

Voldemort's words should not have been as demoralizing as they were. Faced with the possibility that their golden child might have abandoned them, the bright side's motivation waned significantly. For the most part, it was the young students who began to doubt for their lives, and some of them even hesitantly lowered their wands, considering their own surrender in exchange for their lives.

Of course, Dumbledore also spoke up. “You should not speak so quickly, Tom. Young Harry may have fled, but as long as he lives, the resistance against your reign will live on”

Despite the bravery of the statement, even more people on the bright side lowered their wands. Harry Potter's life may have been the most important here, but his escape would become the death of the people present, so many were not at all happy with Dumbledore's near-suicidal statement. Not that anyone said it out loud.

The exchange of words, both motivational and demoralizing, came to an abrupt end when a voice very familiar to all present uttered “Accio wands”

In less than a second, the wands of all present, on both the light and dark sides, were summoned to the highest part of the room, where young Harry removed his invisibility cloak and, with a slight wave of his wand, set fire to all the wands that had just been summoned before him.

All present could only watch in shock as their wands, their most prized possessions, were reduced to ashes by the hands of a mere child.

Complaints from those present reached the roof, both threats from the Death Eaters and questions from their allies, who could not understand why Harry had taken and destroyed their precious wands as well.

Even his dear friends and family began to complain “HARRY! WHY DID YOU STEAL OUR WANDS TOO?” shouts Hermione indignantly.

“Yeah mate, that wasn't cool” followed Ron, in a calmer tone, but no less confused than his now girlfriend.

The only ones who didn't rush to speak, or even move a muscle, were Lord Voldemort and Albus Dumbledore. It may have slipped their minds with the shock of losing their wands at a moment's notice, but until a few minutes ago, the search spell to find Harry Potter had resulted in Potter not being in this room.

But right now, Harry Potter was at the very top of this very room. Which left the two men with the same two impossible conclusions. Either the spell on everyone present failed, which is impossible. Or the person currently standing in front of everyone, who looks and talks like Harry Potter, is not Harry Potter.
