Chapter Text
The smell of freshly baked bread and the warm feeling of the sunlight from the large windows filled the shop like every morning.
With the problem that today wasn't like every morning.
It was the day after that great ball dance celebrated in the huge hall of the royal palace. Everyone in town was invited to join, so it was full of rich and not so rich people. And also tons of food, a lot of variety you've never seen or tasted before, a real sensorial experience full of different flavors, textures and…
“Have you heard the rumors about the prince?”
Oh yeah, the prince. That's definitely something. Something huge happened with the prince at the ball and now, well, all of the town is gossiping about it.
“It seems that yesterday he danced with a girl”
“God I wish that were me”
“No, but listen. I didn't see the girl myself, but it seems she was ugly!”
“What? Really? Why was the prince dancing with an ugly girl? Was she a witch?”
The women’s gossip makes me want to dig myself underground. Was my dress really that ugly? The only thing I can do right now is look away while I prepare them the bread they ordered, hoping no one recognises me.
Dancing with the prince felt like I was in a fairytale. I didn't know how to dance but he was really kind and patient with me. How could I know the prince was like that? I only went to the ball dance to try all the exotic food, I'm not really into royalty, so when he approached me and invited me to dance. I just didn't know what to do, how could I reject him?
But now, thinking back, I feel really embarrassed, I even told him my name and about the bakery hoping he will come to see me… As if! Why would a prince want to see a commoner baker girl like me? Really, I need to grow up and stop thinking life is like the fairy tales books.
I just hope all of this gossiping dies out soon.
Just as the two women are about to leave and my job at keeping my secret identity was going to succeed, the door of the bakery suddenly opens, with the chime of the bells echoing through the place. I lift my head to look at the client who just entered, only to realise that he was no client.
The prince.
Wait what.
“Sarah! My love! I've finally found you!”
Prince Sun just busted through the door screaming my name, grabbing everyone's attention to my red and shocked face.
“What… w-what?”
Great, stuttering seems to be the only thing I can get out of my mouth.
“I've been searching for you through all the town’s bakeries! You never told me which bakery was yours… But I finally found you! Now we can be together!”
Did he just come out of a romantic fairy tale book? I just can't believe what is happening right now as I realise there's still people in the shop witnessing the situation. I can't help but let out a quick sharp scream as I start getting everyone out.
“Haha sorry! We have to close sooner! Everybody out please!”
After emptying the bakery of people and closing the door, I let out a loud sigh while lightly bonking my head in the wood. Only to open my eyes and realise I also kicked out the prince.
I rapidly opened the door, grabbed him by the arm and shoved him inside, closing the door again.
“What… what are you doing here?!”
I finally said coherent words to him.
“Sarah”
After that he did something I never expected; he grabbed my hands and dropped to his knees, making eye contact with his big pleading eyes and a serious expression.
“Last night was the best I've ever felt in my life. I've never seen someone as pretty as you, since the very first moment I saw you, I just knew. You must be the one for me. So, please…”
He reached for his pocket, taking out a little box and opening it, revealing the beautiful diamond ring inside.
“Will you marry me?”
