The soft sunlight gently illuminated the cozy room where Sirius and Barty were spending their morning. Sirius sat on the windowsill, carelessly propping one leg up on the frame while the other dangled down. His shirt was slightly unbuttoned, and his hair fell messily over his shoulders. As always, he looked perfectly untamed. But more importantly to Barty, he looked far too pleased with himself—like he’d just done something deliberately annoying.
Barty stood in the middle of the room, arms crossed over his chest. His eyes were narrowed, and the corners of his mouth twitched as if he was fighting a smile.
“Well? Are you proud of yourself?” Barty finally broke the tense silence.
Sirius turned to him with an innocent smile, though the mischievous glint in his eyes betrayed him.
“What? I just had a little chat with your charming neighbor. What’s so wrong about that?”
“A chat?” Barty took a step closer, his voice dropping dangerously low. “You laughed at every single one of his stupid jokes.”
“I’m just polite, Barty. What was I supposed to do? Ignore him?” Sirius deliberately stretched out his response, knowing it would push Barty even further.
Barty closed the distance between them, placing his hands on the windowsill to block Sirius’s escape.
“I’d prefer it if you made it clear that you already have someone who doesn’t like to share.”
Sirius raised an eyebrow, unable to suppress his grin.
“Someone? And who might that be?”
“Don’t play games with me, Black,” Barty growled before grabbing Sirius by the waist and pulling him closer. He pressed a heated kiss to Sirius’s lips, then abruptly pulled back to meet his gaze. “You’re mine. Only mine.”
“Oh, right. How could I forget?” Sirius teased, though his voice faltered slightly as Barty’s lips brushed against his neck, leaving soft bites behind.
“Remember it,” Barty warned. “And next time you smile like that at someone else,”—he bit down a little harder this time—“I’ll make sure they lose the desire to even look at you.”
Sirius rolled his eyes theatrically, but a satisfied smile tugged at his lips. He rose slightly on his toes to plant a soft kiss on Barty’s chin.
“You’re impossible.”
“And you’re insufferable,” Barty shot back, though his voice softened. He pulled Sirius even closer, holding him so tightly there was no space left between them.
Sirius sighed and rested his forehead on Barty’s shoulder, hiding his grin. He loved it when Barty got jealous, even if he pretended to be annoyed. Because in those moments, he could feel just how deeply he was loved.
