Chapter Text
One thousand years… One thousand years have passed since humanity’s victory in the Ragnarök, the tournament of 13 fights between Man and Maker to decide the fate of the Gods’ creations. Humanity has flourished in the millennia that has passed. The Gods, however, are bitter from their humiliation at the hands of the ones they wished to destroy. Now, at the council of Valhalla, the Gods will decide…
“Shall humanity perish…?” began an old man wearing a toga, sitting in the center of the amphitheater where the Gods had gathered. This was Zeus, King of the Gods and Chief God of the Greek Pantheon. “Or… Shall we jump straight to what you’re all thinking of?” Collectively, every God in the council perked up and listened intently, waiting for what Zeus had to say next. “Shall we give Humanity another fighting chance at their salvation for the next thousand years?” Zeus’ eyes glowed brilliant gold as almost every Deity either gritted their teeth in anger or cheered in excitement.
“You already know my answer!” Yelled one God. Buddha, Chief God of the Buddhist pantheon, was wearing his usual informal attire. He stared down from the platform he was lying on with one good eye, he had a scar running down his left eye which he was clearly blind in. Many Gods disliked Buddha; he was the traitor after all. He had been chosen as a representative of the Gods in the last Ragnarök, yet at the very last moment, chose to fight for the Humans he once called his kin.
“I say,” Began a Goddess. “That we just wipe out the vermin, especially after what happened last time!” The Goddess in question was Tiamat of the Mesopotamian pantheon, Goddess of chaos and Mother of all Monsters. Her long blue hair draped onto her dragon-themed throne. She was adorned in a long, flowing gown made of shimmering, deep blue and black fabric that covered her tall, slim figure. She leant onto the arm of her throne as many Gods around her agreed. Near the back of the congregation, a God stood, pulling himself up by his mighty Mjolnir.
“Humanity have already proven themselves in my eyes,” Began the God, his Long crimson hair flowed down his back like a river of blood. “If another Ragnarök is the only chance they have at survival, then so be it!” Gods all around the amphitheater began whispering and murmuring to each other. The God sat back down, satisfied at the response. This was Thor, God of Thunder and, since last Ragnarök, Chief of the Norse Pantheon. With the pot sufficiently stirred, the Gods casted their votes. In what came as a surprise to no one, the majority of Gods voted in favor of the second coming of Ragnarök. Humanity would have to fight to live another thousand years.
Elsewhere, a certain Valkyrie was stirring awake in her bed when a knock was heard on her bedroom door. Careful not to wake the human who was lying with her, she got up from the bed. The Valkyrie looked to be in her early twenties, in truth, she was nearly 3000 years old. She attempted to tidy her lilac hair as she approached the door.
“Yes? Hi.” The Valkyrie greeted as she opened her door, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. An angel was the one to meet her. The angel wore a maid’s dress and had four small feathered wing protruding from her head and covering her eyes.
“I have come with news regarding the council of the Gods,” the angel began. “It has been decided that the Ragnarök clause shall be reinstated to decide the fate of humanity once again.” The Valkyrie took a moment to register the information presented to her before eventually coming to a realization.
“And they want me to organize Humanity’s fighters?” she asked rhetorically. The angel nodded and, with the Valkyrie’s word, left. As the door was closed a voice spoke up.
“Göll…” began the now awake human. “what was that about?”
“Nothing to worry about right now.” Göll assured him as she lied back down beside him. “Actually Zach, I might need your help later. You’re good with history, right?” Zach mumbled something incoherently and nodded to show his affirmation as he drifted back to sleep…
The day was bright in Valhalla and the stage was set for Humanity’s second war for survival. Mortals and Immortals alike gathered in the grandstands to watch the coming duels. Göll and Zach were standing in a booth that was all to familiar to the former of the two. Göll shifted nervously in her spot in anticipation for the coming matches.
“You okay Noisy?” Zach asked in concern for his girlfriend. He rested his hand on her shoulder.
“You know I don’t like it when you call me that.” She said bluntly while nudging his hand off of her, never taking her eyes off the battlefield.
“I also know that you would’ve ignored me otherwise!” Zach retorted affectionately. Göll chuckled lightly as she grabbed his hand and moved it back to her shoulder.
“Just a bit nervous…” she confessed. “We’ll be alright though, know it!”
In the middle of the great colosseum, stood a god. The one who sees all and the one who would now have a second chance to blow the Gjallarhorn. The God positioned his Gjallarhorn over his abnormally mechanical looking mouth as he prepared to begin the first fight.
“WWWEEEEELLCOME BACK EVERYONE!!!” yelled Heimdall, announcer of Ragnarök. “ONE THOUSAND YEARS AGO, HUMANITY PREVAILED IN THEIR TEST TO SURPASS THEIR CREATORS AND SURVIVE ANOTHER MILLENIA!!!!” the humans in the crowd cheered loudly in their pride. “BUT THE TIME HAS NOW COME… FOR THE GODS TO HAVE THEIR SECOND CHANCE TO RECLAIM THEIR TITLE AS THE SUPREME BEINGS!!!!” it was the Gods’ turn now to cheer. “AND NOW… FOR THE MOMENT YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! THIS FIRST ROUND IS GONNA BE A BIG ONE!!! COMING BACK FOR THE ULTIMATE REMATCH…” In the tunnels connecting the arena, two figures were walking through. “THEY ONCE FOUGHT OVER THREE THOUSAND YEARS AGO… ONE LOST… AND THE OTHER WON… WILL THE RESULT BE ANY DIFFERENT?!?! WE’RE ABOUT TO FIND OUT!!!” The two fabled fighters now emerged and facing each other once again. Humanity’s fighter was adorned in a pristine white robe with his dark hair slicked back and holding a golden sling. The representative of the Gods was a ten-foot, hulking figure, with minimal armor and wielding a giant club. Heimdall continued, “IT IS THE FIRST ROUND OF THE SECOND RAGNARÖK… BUT GET READY… FOR THE SECOND ROUND… OF DAVID! VERSUS! GOOOLIAAATH!!!!”
