One day Barbie was adventuring in the woods when she came across a clearing that was unfamiliar to her. The trees around it were sparse and blackened, and the ground was harshly scorched. In the center of it, there lay a large husk, like one belonging to an enormous beetle. Barbie walked up to the empty husk and into a gaping hole in its side. It was dark inside the husk, and she could no longer hear the birds singing. Something rustled at the other end of the shell. Barbie walked towards the noise. At the back of the husk, she saw a pile of grey ash through which a dim light shone. Barbie brushed aside the ash and saw that under it, there was a glitter ball. "That's a very nice glitter ball," she remarked. "I believe I shall take this glitter ball home with me. It sparkles so."
Barbie walked back to the dream house. Along the driveway, there were many lovely plastic flowers and trees. A dream car was parked in the driveway, and across the lawn, Barbie's majestic horse munched the synthetic grass.
Barbie opened the front door and went inside. Her boyfriend, Ken, was waiting for her at the top of the stairs. "Ken, how are you, my wonderful boyfriend?" Barbie asked, returning his smile. "Look at this glitter ball I found." He looked at it dutifully. Being plastic, he did not respond.
Then Barbie went into her closet and changed out of her fancy dress. She hung it up and smiled to herself. "I had a grand time on today's adventure," she told the closet. "I even found this glitter ball. Isn't it lovely?"
Picking out her nightclothes, Barbie left the closet. She wrote in her diary, admired her glitter ball, and did other things that a Barbie does.
By that time, it was late, and the stars were coming out. Barbie put the glitter ball on the dresser beside her bed and went to the other room to draw up a bath. She washed her hair and between her toes and inside her digestive tract, and then she put on her nightclothes and returned to the bedroom. "Good night, glitter ball," she yawned, but suddenly, she realized the glitter ball was gone.
"Who took my glitter ball?" cried Barbie. She walked around her room, searching. She looked over the bed and under the bed and behind the nightstand. When she still had not found it, she wondered if perhaps she had not left it on the nightstand at all, but instead had taken it with her into the bathroom. Returning to the bathroom, Barbee searched it thoroughly. There was some hair in the drain and a ring around the tub. "Has anyone seen my glitter ball?" she asked them, but neither one claimed to have seen it.
Exiting the bathroom, Barbie looked into the hall. There was a dark shape at the top of the stairs. "Hello?" called Barbee. The figure did not answer her. "Ah, Ken, my silly boyfriend," said Barbie, "tell me, did you happen to see my glitter ball? I fear I've lost it." The dark shape, being a dark shape, did not respond.
Barbie continued searching for her glitter ball. She looked in her vast and brimming closet. Clothes lined the walls from ceiling to floor, and the cavernous room seemed to stretch on endlessly. Barbie walked several meters in, past her Pony Adventure outfit, her Space Adventure outfit, and her Rainbow Fairy Adventure outfit. After a few minutes, she came across a festering, pulsating mound. "Hello, festering, pulsating mound of the closet, have you seen my glitter ball?" Barbee asked pleasantly. The mound throbbed rhythmically. "All right, then. Please let me know if you see it!" The mound continued to fester and pulsate, and it otherwise did not respond.
At a loss, Barbie returned to her room. On the floor next to the vanity table was Ken's head. Inside of it, something sparkled. "Ah, there's my glitter ball," exclaimed Barbee. "Silly boyfriend, you had it all along." She took it out of Ken's head, placed it back at her bedside, and went to sleep.
