Chapter Text
It was a boring day like any other at Valoran High. Doodling on her notebook was at least entertaining and whatever the teacher said became white noise. She could have skipped class but her best friend kept nagging her about being responsible for once and she just didn’t feel like arguing with her. She looked to her side to see her best friend taking notes on the lesson. Her friend looked at her and gave her a small smile before going back to her notes.
That’s when it happened…
She screamed in pain as she held her head, the ringing never stopped. Everyone in the class looked at her in shock, the teacher stopped and everyone gathered around her. Eventually, it went quiet… Jinx opened her eyes and looked around, trying to regain her vision. She felt super weird, her stomach doing backflips in a bad way and she felt a bit dizzy.
She heard so many voices talking to her all at once, and it was not even inside her mind. Students asked if she was feeling alright and if she might need to go to the nurse’s office. When a hand touched her shoulder, she had enough. She stood up and ran out of the classroom to find a bathroom. She bumped into a couple of teachers who were passing by the hallways, and she finally saw a bathroom.
Jinx entered the room and went to the sink to vomit the nausea she had been feeling. After letting it all out, she finally saw her reflection and flinched. She had red hair tied in pigtails, amber eyes, and a red star necklace around her neck.
Who the hell was this?
The ringing came back again alongside the migraine. All the memories came back to her. She was with Boy Savior, Professor Furball, and that tall hextech dude. He had touched the true form of the arcane, and everything went weird. She didn’t notice two floating entities making poro noises and bumping into her side.
She rubbed her head and failed to keep her guard up because suddenly, a girl with pink hair was beside her, styled in the same pigtails as her and with a matching pink star necklace.
“Jinx, are you feeling okay?” The girl asked. Why did that voice sound familiar… like she had heard it in a dream?
She flinched when the girl got a bit close to her face. She grabbed the floating creature and threw it at the girl as she backed away. Luckily, the pink girl caught the floating white creature and hugged it close before looking at Jinx.
“S-Stay away from me!” Jinx shouted, grabbed the black creature, and aimed it towards the girl. “I-I have a furball here and I’m not afraid to use it!”
Wow, Jinx, and in front of a girl?
The girl in front of her gave her a worried expression and slowly approached her. “Jinx, it's me Lux, your best friend since we were kids. It's okay, you’re safe here.”
This is wrong. She doesn’t remember meeting this pink girl and why is she comforting her? She squinted her eyes a bit, this girl was way too bright to look at but, weirdly, she couldn’t seem to look away.
Then a pink floating familiar appeared behind Lux’s back and floated towards Jinx. She backed against the wall and was ready to attack but the pink floating creature nuzzled her cheek, purring as a way to comfort Jinx. Eventually, she calmed down. Her mind seems to register that Pinkie is trustworthy. She dropped the black familiar and smiled a bit when the pink familiar made a cheery noise like she had accomplished her mission in comforting her.
“You are kinda cute, weird pink… poro? dog? I don't know what you are.” She said with a grin.
Lux felt relieved that her familiar Mimi helped escalate the situation. She knew her best friend always calmed down when Mimi would nuzzle her. Shiro and Kuro sitting on top of Lux’s head, content purrs filled the room… wait what did she mean by she doesn’t know what Mimi is? She shook her head and concentrated on comforting Jinx after what had happened in class.
“Jinx, can I hug you?” She stepped forward but still kept her distance. She wasn’t afraid of her, she never was, but she wanted to respect her space. Jinx hesitated from that request. She doesn’t know this girl but the more she looks at her, the more flashes of memories of a dream. Like she had a dream of this light figure hugging her.
She said they were friends. Hugs are okay, right? Jinx gave the girl a nervous grin and held out her hands for the hug.
“G-Go for it, shortcake.” She jolted in surprise when Lux pulled her in a tight hug, Shiro and Kuro floating beside them making gremlin noises with Mimi. All that Jinx could think of was how warm the hug was. It was the same feeling in the dreams and she can’t help but reciprocate.
It was such a good feeling, she never wanted this to end. Lux felt Jinx bury her face in her pink hair and she felt so happy to make her feel safe. Jinx always protected her since they were little kids and she wanted to protect her too, this made her feel so giddy.
They don’t know how long they stayed in each other’s arms but neither of them cared. They have each other and they didn’t want to let go. The bell rang to signal everyone it was time for lunch and they didn’t move. Jinx closed her eyes, feeling like she was melting but in a good way from this hug, she didn’t know that Lux’s heart was gonna combust anytime soon.
She may… or may not have told her friend yet about the feeling she had been experiencing when they were close to each other, but this problem can be solved another time. She pulled back and cupped Jinx’s cheek, smiled when Jinx leaned onto her touch, and still had her eyes closed.
“Come on, let's get out of here.” She gently held Jinx’s hand and guided her out of the bathroom. Jinx had the opportunity to run but for some reason, she felt like staying with Lux. It felt right to see Lux smile and she didn’t want to upset her.
“Where’ we going?” Jinx asked.
“We’re gonna have lunch by the rooftop.” She lets the pink-haired girl drag her back to the classroom to grab their stuff. Lux opened the door and they entered to grab their bag. Jinx looked at her desk and was impressed by the art.
“Good taste, Me. I’d also do the same” She thought.
Lux pulled out her phone to text Janna that she wanted to eat lunch with Jinx alone by their hangout spot. She playfully rolled her eyes when Janna texted her with side-eye smirk emojis. She had told the team about her feelings with Jinx and they teased her about it.
Jinx grabbed her bag and opened her bag to see 3 black and white chomper traps, notebooks, pens, and blue and pink spray paint cans, but no signs of a lunchbox. She dug into the pocket of her school jacket and pulled out her wallet to check if she had money.
“No need to buy food from the cafeteria, Jinx.” She looked at Lux, who was holding 2 cute mini lunch bags.
“I have enough-”
“I made lunch for you!” Lux declared with a blush on her face as she held out the gold-colored lunch bag with shark cartoon-like images around it. Jinx looked at the lunch box and back to Lux, “You made this?” She asked. Lux nods her head and her heart jumps inside when Jinx takes it.
“Jeez, pinks, thanks! No one’s ever done this before. Can’t say no to free lunch after all,” She joked and that made Lux laugh. Oh wow, her laugh sounds so golden.
They left the room together. Jinx couldn’t help but notice everyone looking at them and they were murmuring to each other. Are they seriously gossiping about this? Isn’t it normal for two best friends to eat lunch together? Although, she wasn’t quite sure what this universe’s Jinx’s life was. As they walked on the stairs, she couldn’t help but notice the 3 familiars floating beside them and how come no one was talking about it.
“Hey, Lux, quick question. I know I’m crazy and all but no one’s mentioning the furballs floating beside us.” Footsteps stopped and that made Jinx stop at her tracks to look down at Lux. She’s looking at her like she has seen a ghost.
“Jinx, don’t you remember?”
“Remember what?”
“The oath. We took the oath together months ago? Those are our familiars. Mine is the pink familiar and her name is Mimi. Shiro and Kuro are your familiars.”
Oath for a cult? A fancy club maybe? Okay just play it cool.
“Sorry. I’ve been feeling weird lately. I just want to double-check.” Lux raised her eyebrow and walked passed Jinx.
“It's okay. Everyone has their off days once in a while.” She said.
They reached the entrance of the rooftop. Lux opened the door and Jinx followed her. The view was beautiful. She went to the fence of the rooftop and looked down. This wasn’t Piltover and Zaun. Where the hell is she? What is this place? She turned around and watched Lux pulling out a pink blanket to lay it down on the ground. The 3 familiars playing a game of chase that made Lux chuckle. She sat down with Lux and put the lunch bag down.
Lux put hers down and watched Jinx pull out the lunch box, her heart fluttered to watch Jinx’s reaction to the food that she made for her. Jinx looked like she couldn’t believe the food was made for her. She can’t seem to eat this food, it looks like a luxury for her. It was packed with her favorites and she looked at Lux.
“Is this really mine?” She wanted to double-check, this felt like a dream. Lux nodded and Jinx picked up the chopsticks. Lux chuckled when Jinx began to eat lunch. She’s glad her best friend is enjoying the food. She gave Jinx her water bottle and Jinx chugged down.
“Slow down, Jinx. The food isn’t going anywhere!” Jinx gulped down.
“Sorry! It’s really good! 10 out of 10, pinks! You make one hell of a lunch!” She grinned.
Lux pulled out her towel and wiped Jinx’s cheek. “You got a little something there.”
Jinx went still. They stared at each other’s eyes, faces close to each other. Jinx couldn’t help but notice Lux’s eyes twinkling like the stars. She can’t help but feel mesmerized about it. Her eyes looked so beautiful.
Lux squeaked at the compliment with a blush. “Yo-You really think so?”
Did she say that out loud?
“Y-Yeah. They twinkle like the stars. It’s cute.” She said.
The pink-haired girl began to play with her hair, looking away from her friend and thankfully Jinx went back to eating lunch. She couldn’t help but have a goofy smile on her face, Jinx really knows how to compliment a girl. She picked up her lunch and began to eat. She looked at the egg roll she made and picked it up with her chopsticks.
Jinx stopped eating when she noticed an egg roll in front of her. She looked up and Lux was offering her food. She looked at it and didn’t have second thoughts on eating it. Lux wished this moment last forever.
“Jinx, about the oath.”
“What about it?”
“I know your memory is foggy from what happened so I thought I’d address what oath I meant.”
“Oh okay. Shoot.”
“It's an oath to become a Star Guardian. We protect the world from danger and we have these powers that were given to us from the First Star. Janna told us that the First Star had chosen us for a reason, we both took an oath. You were hesitant at first, you told me it was probably a cult but you were enthusiastic about being a guardian.” Jinx swallowed her food and thought for a bit.
Is she a fucking hero in this world?
