Work Text:
Being an inventor and the co-founder of hextech, Viktor is used to pulling all-nighters and falling asleep in the lab.
So imagine his surprise when he sees Mel asleep in her office, slumped over her desk with her crossed arms serving as her pillow.
Mel herself always told him that it’s an uncomfortable position to sleep in and that it will hurt his back later down the line if he keeps this habit up. Now he understands.
Letting out a sigh of contentment, Viktor puts the notes he has brought with him on the desk next to Mel, a reasonable distance away from her. If she wakes up when he isn’t there, she’ll know he will come back.
Viktor then walks out of the room, heading to the coffee machine down the hall. It has become colder outside as well in the buildings, and sleeping in an office definitely isn’t warm, so a hot drink will do the trick.
With a hot chocolate in hand, Viktor walks back to Mel’s office, carefully of course. Walking with a crutch while holding a hot drink can easily result in disaster, even if the cup has a lid placed on it.
It takes ten minutes for him to reach Mel again. She hasn’t woken up yet, so Viktor tries his best to make the least amount of noise possible. He gently placed the cup of hot chocolate near her before sitting down himself, picking up his notes to go over them again. He initially planned to do so before bed, but he doesn’t mind this.
Mel has done this for him too many times to count, sitting by his side when he was asleep in the lab until he woke up. Viktor always appreciates her doing this, so it’s time to return the favor.
“Oh, hey.” He eventually hears Mel say, turning his notes away to see her. After who knows how long, she had woken up, looking quite surprised to see him. “What are you doing here?”
“Watching you.” Viktor answers, shrugging his shoulders. Why wouldn’t he?
Noticing the cup of hot chocolate near her, Mel takes a sip of it, smiling as she feels herself warm up.
“You didn’t have to.” Mel says, though appreciating him looking out for her.
“That’s what I always say.” Viktor jokes, remembering always saying that exact same thing after waking up to see her sitting next to him, always insisting that she shouldn’t have to wait for him in the lab.
He can’t help but chuckle.
Oh, how the tables have turned.
