Christmas is coming close to an end and the night keeps getting colder. Even with hot coco, a warm sweater, and the fireplace lit up, it almost seemed impossible to stay warm. You looked around the now dark and empty living room to find something to keep your mind off the cold. Although you found nothing, memories of your life up to this point were starting to flood in. And it all started with the woman you are now married to: Kou Mariya.
You first met Mariya near the end of high school, alone in a classroom as the sun starts to set. You might have a good idea on where this story is heading, but trust us, it didn't go into the direction you think it's going. It started off like any other confession of love. You got a letter to meet after school, and when you obeyed the letter, there she was. You expected her to confess her love to you...only for her to lunge at you to suck some of your blood. Turns out Mariya wasn't an ordinary human. Instead, she was actually a vampire. It was very shocking to discover, but surprisingly, it didn't bother you at all. Sure, it was a bit of a scare, but you got over it quickly. For as to why she chose you and nobody else, you have no idea, but don't really question it. The relationship between the two of you started off business like. All she wanted from you was your blood, and in return, she'll pay you personally. A little disheartening at first, but who can say no to free cash? However, over time, a spark started to form between the two of you. Then, after college, the two of you made it official. The both of you even had a daughter together, and she has grown into a little ball of sunshine five years later.
The sudden chill brought you back to the present, but not before reminiscing of the recent events. This Christmas was a much bigger success than last time. The only casualty was your poor wallet for spending so much on playing Santa for your sweet little girl. She was very happy in getting her shiny new bike and a pack of Roblox bucks (the one present you were admittedly hesitant on getting her). Of course, she is now asleep after the excitement wore off, with your wife taking her to bed. You didn't get anything for Christmas, but as long as thing went well, you weren't really bothered by it. Just then, a familiar face came out of the shadows.
"Alone on a Christmas night? God, you're pathetic." ~ Kou Mariya
You chuckled at your wife's sense of humor and made room for her right beside you.
"Komari is fast asleep, which means it's just you and me."
Mariya then cuddles up beside you even more, making your heart skip a beat. Even after so long, Mariya's warmth keeps your heart going. The two of you didn't say anything for a moment. It was almost as if the two of you would sleep into each other's arms right then and there. Of course, Mariya had other plans...
"Hey darling... Can I kiss you?"
You thought it was a silly question until you turn to Mariya, who stares at you with wet eyes. You asked her what's wrong.
"None of this...still doesn't feel real to me. I need something to reassure me that this is all real and not a silly dream. So... can you?"
You understand her words clear as day. There were also times where you too thought this was all a dream. Even through bad days and hardships, it still didn't feel real. Well, those worries soon washed away as the two of you shared a kiss. And another kiss. And another. Suddenly, the kisses kept coming and coming. You're pretty sure your mind went blank for a moment because now Mariya is on top of you. Even she looked a little confused before a chuckle escaped her lips.
"I guess I love your kisses a little too much."
The both of you stared into each other's eyes, having a good idea on what's coming next.
" I love you, darling. Now and forever."
You may not have gotten anything shiny or expensive for Christmas, but you did get something better. You got a warm home, delicious food, a sweet daughter, and of course, a loving wife. It's like a fairy tale come to life. Although the future is uncertain, and that many trials and tribulations are lying in wait, your love for Kou Mariya will never change. That much you know is certain.
