Substitute Teacher Takes Role

Summary:

Enji "Endeavor" Todoroki has to substitute for Aizawa. He thought this would be an easy way to bond with his son and connect with the next generation of Heroes. Oh, was he so very wrong...

Notes:

Old request from Wattpad that I’m cross posting over to here for fun 🙂‍↕️

Pre-Endeavor Agency arc, we're in the era where Endeavor wants to redeem himself but hasn't made major steps yet, so basically right after he became Number One Hero. Pronunciation errors from kanji alternate readings

Work Text:

"Everyone, sit down!" Iida Tenya announced, at the front of the class to perform his morning Class Rep duties. "Aizawa-sensei is out today, so we have a substitute. It is expected by UA High School's honor code that you be on your best be—"

"WHOO, SUBSTITUTE, LET'S FUCKING GO!" Kaminari Denki screamed.

"Do you think it's a hot chick teacher? I hope it's a hot chick," Mineta Minoru said, color rising to his cheeks as a little drool formed at the corner of his mouth from whatever he was imagining. Jirou Kyouka swiftly delivered a sound attack via her Earjacks to his ear.

"Everyone—" Iida said, trying to regain their attention.

"I hope whoever it is, boy or girl, that they are a good Pro Hero I can learn as much as possible from!" Yaoyorozu Momo said, a determined look in her eyes. Ashido Mina, who was doing Yaoyorozu's hair, smiled.

"Ooh, maybe it'll be Tiger-san from the Wild, Wild Pussycats. I loved his vibe." She pulled up Yaoyorozu's silky, black locks into a neat ponytail. "So much energy!"

"Maybe it'll be Edgeshot!" Hagakure Tooru proposed excitedly. "He's so cool..."

"Everyone, please listen—" Iida interjected once again in another attempt to center his peers.

"What if it's All Might?" Midoriya Izuku proposed happily.

"Midoriya-chan, All Might is already a normal roster teacher, ribbit," Asui "Tsu" Tsuyu reminded the fanboy with a serene smile.

"Sit down, all of you," said a familiar, booming voice that caused Todoroki Shouto to freeze in his tracks. Midoriya whipped around as well to see the imposing figure at the desk...

"Endeavor-sensei, I apologize for the ruckus—" Iida began, though the classroom was now quiet and staring at the new Number One Hero.

"It's fine, go to your seat. That applies to all of you. I'll take roll." Enji "Endeavor" Todoroki put on his reading glasses and took out a folder of the roll call. "First is... Aoyama Yasamiya?"

"Aoyama Yuuga," the pompous blond corrected, fluffing his hair in a mirror. "Read it correctly, merci."

"Right." Endeavor gritted his teeth, already noting that he didn't like that kid. "Ashido Mina?"

"Here!" the pink-skinned girl said energetically, still playing with Yaoyorozu's hair.

"Go sit down in your seat." Endeavor glared at her over his roll call sheet.

Before Mina could even think of responding or returning to her spot, Shouto finally snapped out of his stupor and yelled, "Why the hell are you here?!"

"Don't use casual language while speaking to your elders, Shouto, I raised you—" Endeavor began out of habit, but he stopped himself. Don't go back to your old habits, be better. "I'm here to fill in for your teacher for today." His revised statement was much calmer.

Shouto looked about ready to strangle his father, but Midoriya held him back and hauled him back to his desk. "We don't kill teachers, Todoroki-kun."

"Maybe you extras don't, but I sure as hell do!" Bakugou Katsuki declared, springing up from his desk only to also get held back from attacking, this time by Sero Hanta's Tape. Bakugou began struggling like a rabid dog against his restraints as Sero sighed.

"Look, I get you're a badass, protective boyfriend or whatever, but it's too early for murder. At least wait until lunch," Sero calmly requested, holding the explosive boy back.

"LET ME THE FUCK GO, SOY SAUCE FACE!" Bakugou screeched at Sero.

"...uh, no."

Endeavor rubbed his face. What is wrong with teens these days? Wait, did he say...? "Boyfriend?"

Shouto seemed to pounce on the chance to make his father uncomfortable and raised his hand. "Yeah, my boyfriend."

Yaoyorozu covered her face. "I have a bad feeling about this."

"Wanna skip this and go shopping?" Mina proposed.

"You know what? Normally, I'd say no since there's nothing worth losing education time — not even shopping — but I doubt any education will happen this class. Let's go." Yaoyorozu and Mina left the classroom, followed by Hagakure.

"Hey, get your asses back in here!" Endeavor demanded.

"Damn, they're just gone," Denki commented.

"You should probably finish taking roll," Midoriya informed Endeavor as he continued holding back the younger Todoroki.

"Right... Well, Ashido Mina is now absent, so... Asui Tsuyu?"

"She goes by Tsu-chan," Uraraka Ochaco commented.

"Only my friends get to call me Tsu-chan, not Endeavor-sensei," Tsu commented serenely.

Endeavor grimaced. It's going to be a long day, isn't it? "Iida Tenya."

"Present!" Iida shouted, holding his hand high.

"I know your brother. Good man," Endeavor commented, moving onto the next name. "Uruwabi Ochaco?"

"Uraraka," the pink-cheeked girl corrected, looking up from her mochi.

And so the list continued in a mostly orderly fashion (or as orderly as you could get with Class 1-A) until...

"Todoroki Shouto," Endeavor called.

"I'm not here," Shouto said seriously.

"Shouto, I can see y—"

"I'm changing my name to Bakugou, then, next."

"Icy Hot, we're not in a forever partnership—" Bakugou began, his face bright red.

"Shouto, why would you be changing your name to that of this insanely rude blond?" Endeavor asked, his face like the calm before the storm.

"Because he's my boyfriend."

Endeavor sighed. "I thought I raised you better than that."

"Than being gay?"

"No, than having that as a partner. I thought I raised my son to have taste."

Midoriya released Shouto and Bakugou began struggling against Sero's Tape again, both looking to get at Endeavor. Meanwhile, Shouto was in shocked silence about that last comment.

Tsu sighed calmly. "It's going to be a long day, isn't it?"

There were several murmurs of agreement around the room.
