Work Text:

Oscar had been going through a lot this week. LIKE A LOT. Even though his schedule is not a busy one like his husband, Lando, who fucking owns a multi-billion dollar company, but it’s starting to get really draining. Oscar often comes home with a horrible mood, which he holds back since he doesn’t want to sadden his daughter, Leona.

Oscar owned a cafe in town, funded by Lando and driven by his own desire since high school to have one and Lando could never resist the wishes of his beautiful husband, so he agreed to fund it. Oscar is the owner, sometimes a supervisor, sometimes a manager at certain times—but he usually lets his manager do the job since he doesn’t want to interfere with precious moments with his family.

Now… the real problem.

Oscar’s cafe manager is  currently on leave for two weeks to take care of her sick mother and there are many interns in his cafe including Logan, who spends most of his time awkwardly working at the cafe. As a result, Oscar often has to guide him and remind him of various tasks.

His overtime hours have increased, though not drastically, but they still cut into his time to play with his daughter.

Oh yes, about his daughter.

No, their daughter. He and Lando’s daughter.

Leonora Juliet Norris.

Leona is turning four years old this February. The little girl inherited Lando’s curls and eye smiles, combined with Oscar’s brown soft hair and light brown-yellowish eyes.

Leona is a bubbly kid, loves drawing and watching cartoon shows on Oscar’s phone. Although Oscar and Lando don’t really allow Leona to have a big amount of screentime, encouraging her to play sports in which the little girl found exciting. Leona likes ballet and is currently taking ballet courses.

Don’t forget to mention that Lando loves Leona so, so, so much. He’s the best dad to ever have, always spoiling Leona and can’t resist taking a million pictures of his little princes when they’re going on a stroll around town.

———

Lando cleared his schedule for tonight because he wanted to take a moment to rest and spend time with his family.

After all, last week had been exhausting, filled with business trips and unnecessary meetings.

As he stepped out of the car, the first thing Lando saw was his daughter standing on the porch, a wide smile on her little face as she waved to him.

Lando’s smile widened, all the exhaustion seemed to vanish in an instant.

He quickened his pace towards his daughter, who was running forward with tiny, eager steps. When they met, Lando scooped Leona into his arms, spinning her around as laughter filled the air.

“How’s my princess today?” Lando asked, his voice soft and full of love.

“I’m happy! Daddy’s home early!” Leona exclaimed excitedly, her little hands clutching tightly around Lando’s neck.

Lando places a soft kiss on her temple before going inside to find Oscar’s mom, Nicole, sitting on the couch trying to work something on her phone. Nicole immediately stood up when she noticed her son-in-law was already home.

“Lando, you’re home early.” Nicole said, smiling.

“Yeah, mom. Cleared up my schedules for the night, changing it for tomorrow.” Lando replied. He tickles Leona and she’s all giggly. “Thankyou for watching Leona when me and Oscar are away.”

“You’re always welcome.” Nicole claps her hands, approaching Lando and Leona. “Did you have fun today with Granny, Leona?” Lando asked and earned a nod enthusiastically.

“Yes! I went to the supermarket with Granny and Granny bought me a lot of chocolate— Um, oops..”

Leona got shy, hiding her face on the crook of Lando’s neck, aware that she was not supposed to say that Nicole had bought her chocolates when Lando and Oscar were away. Both of her parents were very strict about sweets.

Lando laughed at Leona being shy, patting her back softly. “It’s okay, princess. Have you said thankyou to Granny?”

“Yes, I have!” Nicole also gave a nod.

Lando smiled. “Alright, sweetie, you can eat sweets since it’s Friday. But save it later for the rest, ‘kay? Don’t eat all of them at once.”

“Okay daddy!”

Lando gently put her down and Leona rushed to the kitchen, probably getting one of her desserts.

“Oscar’s not home yet?” Nicole's question interrupted Lando who was texting his secretary.

Lando looked up from his phone, sighing in disappointment. “Nope, he’s a little busy these few weeks. I think he's working overtime again now.”

Nicole shook her head. “Oh that’s bad. I hope he can get a rest sooner and spend time with you.”

Lando smiled faintly. “I hope so too, mom.”

Leona came back after a few seconds with a chocolate bar in her right hand, showing it to both Lando and Nicole. Her eyes glimmer with enthusiasm.

“Daddy, do you want some?” Leona asked while approaching Lando and Lando’s in awe after he noticed how small Leona was.

“No, thankyou sweetheart. You can eat it on your own, but remember what daddy said, right?”

Leona nodded. “Mhm!”

Nicole smiled at the interaction and say goodbye, kissing Leona’s cheeks before closing the front door, heading outside because her husband had been waiting for her.

Lando sat on the couch still wearing a white dress shirt but he couldn’t care less. Leona sat beside him, eating her chocolate bar. Her mouth’s a mess with chocolate, but Lando fondly cleanses them up with a tissue.

“Papa’s not home yet, Daddy…” Leona mumbled.

“Papa is busy, sweetheart. But papa will come home soon,” answered Lando while smiling, trying to encourage the little girl when he’s silently missing his husband too.

“I miss Papa. I want to play with Papa!” Leona said with a pout. Her face looked sad and Lando’s heart broke when he saw his little girl’s upset face.

Lando scooped Leona into his arms where the little girl hid her face in the crook of Lando’s neck, trying to find comfort in the longing of her Papa. Lando patted her back gently, brushing her curls softly as he’s unsure what to say about Oscar’s busy schedule.

Until, Leona had a brilliant idea.

“Daddy, I want to make a surprise for Papa!”

“And what kind of surprise is that, princess?”

———

Oscar came back home with a horrible mood, his body ached, eyes heavy with sleep and looking like a wreck. All of this was made worse by traffic, deepening his frustration and souring his mood.

Oscar makes sure the door of his car is already locked before walking over to their porch, getting ready to enter the house and…

“SURPRISEEEE!!”

There stood Lando and Leona in Lando’s arms, smiling wide with Leona holding a piece of paper. A drawing of their small family—Lando on the right, Oscar on the left, both holding hands with Leona. The little girl also added details such as flowers, butterflies and a sun in the background.

On top of the drawing, “We love you, Papa!” was written. With Leona’s messy handwriting.

Oscar’s heart warmth with the present his little daughter gave him. He can feel his eyes forming tears as his vision becomes glassy and blurry while smiling.

“Oh you guys…” Oscar’s voice cracked, obviously from holding back his tears.

“Papa, why are you crying? Don’t be sad!” Leona bent over to Oscar’s embrace as Oscar was the one carrying her now.

Leona turned to face Oscar, her little hands wiping Oscar’s tears. “Don’t cry, Papa..”

Oscar was just so overwhelmed with his work and his mood was unstable so he couldn't control his tears from running down even if he was feeling joy today.

It was when Lando suddenly pulled both of them for a hug. Lando kissed Oscar’s forehead, stroking his hair gently while keeping his husband safe in his embrace with their little princess.

“It was all Leona’s idea,” whispered Lando before placing another kiss on Oscar’s rosy cheeks.

“Thankyou…” Oscar sobbed, his tears still being wiped by Leona who was concerned and thought Oscar didn’t like her drawing. Oscar shook his head and said, “No, sweetheart, I really like your drawing. I really really do. Thank you for drawing me and daddy there.”

Oscar smiled at Leona and the little girl smiled back even wider. Oscar kisses her nose, earning a ticklish giggle from Leona.

“I love you—both of you, so much.”

“We love you too, Papa!”

Both Leona and Lando replied, making Oscar giggle.
