Midnight Braids and Giggles

Summary:

An rolled over onto her back, her blue-black hair spilling out around her like an inky halo. She pointed at Kohane’s neatly brushed hair. “Your hair’s always so tidy. How do you even do that?”

“Oh, um…” Kohane blushed. “I just brush it before bed, I guess…”

An propped herself up on her elbows, her mischievous grin spreading. “Alright, hair pro. Prove it. Tame this beast!” She ruffled her own hair, making it look even wilder.

“Eh?!” Kohane’s eyes widened as An crawled over and plopped down in front of her.

I hate them.

Work Text:

Kohane sat cross-legged on the floor, fiddling nervously with the edge of her blanket. Sleepovers always made her a little anxious—so much energy, so many unpredictable moments. She glanced over at An, who was lying on her stomach, idly scrolling on Tiktok on her phone with one leg kicking in the air.

“Koko,” An suddenly said, closing her phone and letting it fall on the bed.

“Y-Yeah?” Kohane squeaked, startled.

“I’m serious!” An said, gesturing at her long hair. “I mean, look at this. It’s like a bird’s nest back here. You can’t just let your girlfriend suffer like this!”

“I-I don’t know if I’m any good at—”

“Kohane,” An said, her voice mock-serious. “You can’t back out now. This is your moment to shine.”

Kohane let out a small laugh despite herself. “Okay, okay… but don’t blame me if it’s not perfect.”

She reached into her overnight bag and pulled out a brush. Gently, she began to work through An’s hair, her fingers grazing An’s scalp. The strands were smooth but a little tangled at the ends.

“Wow, you’re actually pretty good at this,” An said, her voice soft as she relaxed under Kohane’s touch.

“R-Really?” Kohane asked, surprised.

“Totally. You’ve got the magic touch or whatever,” An teased, leaning back slightly.

The quiet hum of the room filled the space as Kohane concentrated, sectioning An’s hair into three parts. After a few moments of hesitation, she began to braid it carefully, her hands moving with surprising confidence.

“There,” Kohane said finally, tying the braid off with a small elastic. “All done.”

An reached back to feel the braid, then scrambled for her phone to check it in the front camera. A grin broke across her face. “Yo, Koko, this is awesome! You made me look so… fancy!”

Kohane flushed. “I-It’s just a simple braid…”

“Simple? Nah, it’s elegant! I look like I’m about to walk a red carpet or something!” An laughed, tossing her hair dramatically.

Kohane giggled softly, feeling her nerves ease. “Well, I’m glad you like it.”

“I don’t just like it—I love it!” An said, spinning around to face her. “You’re officially my go-to stylist now, okay? You better be ready at everytime i need you from now on.”

Kohane smiled, her heart warming at the playful demand. “Okay… I think I can do that.”

The two of them burst into giggles, the sound blending into the cozy night as the sleepover continued.
