'You hear the new voice right?'
'Yes, what do they want?'
'Don't know, it's like a click then it's gone.'
'No, no it's not a click, it sounds like scratching sand.'
'Oh do you think it's our old friend?'
The sailor put his head against the fence post and growned. Being able to hear the voices of the Wind was a blessing it really was. Just not when he was trying to figure out who this new voice was. At first he assumed it was a lost spirit wandering lon lon ranch. Only problem was the other spirits told him there was no newcomers, and that most of them didn't feel the presence. Most except Urbosa, the Gerudo chief felt something, but could not put a name to it.
So when the Wind started to so clearly talk about it, and now refused to quiet it's hollows. The Conductor of the Winds needed to figure it out. Listening to his chorus had led him to the far west side of the Ranch, eyes being pulled to a giant crack in the mountain. The crack almost looked like a god had taken a broken sword and split the mountain in half. Wind chuckled, maybe the chosen hero did it.
The sailor was drawn to the split in soil.
Call it hero's spirit, or stupidity, but whatever was reaching out to him, wanted him to go through that pass. Only problem was, how to get there, and what was beyond the pass that called for him.
"Sailor–" a gentle hand was placed on his shoulder.
Like any normal human, winds response to this sudden and out of nowhere experience. Was to jump up in surprise just enough that he could fall over the fence, and that is exactly what he did. Letting out a yelp when he realized the decent sized drop he was about to face. Thankfully, someone grabbed hold of his ankles, allowing them to slide the hero back over and safely to the ground.
The person in question was Malon. Both parties collapse to the ground. Looking at each other.
The breeze gently whispered.
Drowned out by the barks of laughter. "Goodness, Sailor–you looked at me as if I was a monster! You launched into the sky!" Malon smiled ear to ear.
"Well with some of the stories the old man tells, what do you expect?" Wind's laughter calmed down.
The red headed woman raised her eyebrow. "Oh? And what stories does he tell about his beloved wife?" She slyly smiled.
The sailor caught on, changing his demeanor as if he was about to speak into existence the most epic tale. "The hero of time, he spoke of the most beautiful women he'd ever known. Simple and sweet, but ready and willing to crack a man's skull. Her iron will would match that of ten armies, probably more. Yet her kindness and gentleness was something to adore."
Malon blushed almost as bright as her hair. "He really said that about me?"
"Actually I believe it was about Princess Zelda." The sailor was rightfully smacked in the back of the head by the women, but not too hard.
"I'm kidding! The old man isn't that dumb!" Wind covered himself in playful fear. "Also yes, I now think my early reaction was just justified!"
Malon chuckled at her youngest one. Ever since her husband had brought the boys home. They all became hers. Though, she knew the sailor had a very special place in the fairy boy's heart. He was more than just a son. He was a War brother, along with the fancy one. However, from what Link had told her the sailor was there in one of his darkest, and most painful moments. The sailor was able to relate to him in a way no one else could ever understand. Because of that, Malon felt obligated to teach the younger hero of the Winds. So when he did meet her younger link, the sailor be wiser.
The boy began to get up and offer his hand for the rancher woman to take. Which she did.
"Such a gentleman," she curtsied once up.
Wind tilted his head playfully, "Not sure about that. I mean Grandma raised a kind lad, but a gentleman? Nah, around pirates too much to be that." He leaned against the fence.
"Fair," Malon leaned with him. "Soooooooo?"
"So?" The sailor giggled.
"What are you doing over here? You don't seem like the type to longingly gaze into the distance, and yet that's how I find you. So, what's that about? Did one of the cucco peck you again? Because if you tell me which one we can probably eat it." She nudged her shoulder into the sailors.
"How–HOW! Can you even kill one of those without being brutally attacked?" Wind was flabbergasted.
"Yeah, you just carry it away from its friends then quickly snap it neck over your leg." Malon shrugged casually while the sailor's mind exploded. "However, that doesn't answer my question?"
The boy turned his face towards the mountain, eyeing the pass. "Just–just curious what's beyond there?" Drawing Malon's eyes to the crack.
Her eyes quickly furrowed, and smile disappeared. "That's….that's Gerudo territory, very, Very. Few Hylian go there."
"Is…is it bad?" Wind whispered, sounding like a child.
"It's…complicated, the women there are not bad people by any means. The relations with them right now are a bit, um, unstable." Malons shoulders pulled in on themselves.
"Why?" The sailor needed to know.
The red headed woman took a deep breath. "Because their leader was Ganondorf."
Wind was stunned, and a little dumbfounded. Urbosa and Riju, were his best examples of Gerudo. Honestly, the idea that the almost seven foot tall warrior woman would once been commanded by the mad red king that kidnapped his sister didn't sit right with him.
Yet he knew malon spoke the truth, she had no reason to lie to him.
"And because of that?" He pressed.
"The people are walking a thin line, after the king took Ganondorf into custody, and did something with him, people expect another civil war, no one wants it but it could happen, but any little incident could cause it….then Lon Lon Ranch be the war's first victim." Malon clenched her hands as she thought about that awful idea.
Wind put his hands over hers in an attempt to comfort. "The old man would never let that come to fruition…he wouldn't!"
"Yes…but how could he stop it if he's not always around…" Her face was so sad.
"I'm–I'm sorry I asked. I didn't mean to make you upset." Wind felt so small.
While realization hit Malon. "Oh goodness look at me, got trapped in my own head, and made us both upset!" She pushed herself off the fence. "This won't do, come on then, I have elected you to be my second pair of hands in the kitchen. You know how hungry those boys can get!" Malon took wind by the arm leading back to the house.
The sailor took a second to glance back at the pass. A whisper graced his ear, as clear and as real as Malons hand.
'Come to me…my little Hero of the Winds.'
He needed to find a way to it. He have to sneak out. From the few conversations he had with his brother's hearing magical voices in one's head was a delicate subject. Also after what Malon had told him, there was no way he be risking his family's life to find it. Sneaking out of the house wouldn't be that hard. He mentally mapped out every squeaking floor board in it. No, what would be hard is if someone woke up and found him gone too soon.
