Work Text:

“If I've learned anything, it's not to walk through a shopping mall with an empty stomach. And yet, we're here and haven’t had lunch.” said Nene, holding her rumbling stomach. Her face was annoyed, yet her boyfriend was none the wiser.

“It’ll be okay dear Nene! There are plenty of areas, and food shops to boot!” Tsukasa said, with a small twinkle in his eye.

“That’s not what I meant…” she murmured. “I don’t want to spend more than I have to when shopping is hard enough already.” she added.

“I can pay then! You can focus on the shopping whilst I can do the food!”

“I’m not letting you do that either.” she said. Though after this, she caught a crepe shop in the corner of her eye and felt her stomach rumble again. “Well…”

“Ah, I see! What has tickled your fancy?” he said, darting his head around the general area, then spotting the same shop. “Crepes! Of course.”

“Never say that ever again.”

The two then took a short walk over to the shop, the both of them picking fruit crepes with cream, and set their bags next to them as they sat at a table. Nene was quick to bite into hers, savouring the sweet taste of the strawberries and chewy batter.

Tsukasa practically inhaled his on the other hand, which made Nene stare in shock. “I was hungry, forgive me.”

“Its fine, don't worry about it.” Nene responded, setting the paper down. “It's not even late and it's already getting dark. I think I could just sleep now…” she added. Tsukasa nodded, though he was staring at her with a gentle expression. Odd, knowing sometimes Tsukasa was anything but that.

That’s okay. I did invite you out on our off day after all.” he said. “If you want to go, I’ll be okay.”

“That’s not what I meant! I mean…I am tired, but I think it’s just the setting sun that makes me feel that way I guess? Like a weird placebo.”

“Ohhh I get you. Where do we head next then? There’s a sweets store nearby!”

“Let me finish my crepe first!” Nene half-shouted, though thankfully nobody turned their heads to the pair. “I wouldn’t mind though.”

She did quickly finish her crepe however, and the two of them picked up their bags to leave. Nene was still hungry, oddly enough. But she still wanted something sweet. Maybe going into a sweets store wasn’t the best idea. But Tsukasa was already halfway there when she left, and was brimming with energy.

The sweets shop was overloaded with smells, all sugary and warm from the chocolate and gingerbread. You could also just feel the warmth emanating from it. Tsukasa picked up a small box of chocolates first and started waving them in Nene’s face. Her face was deadpan.

“What are you doing.” she said, her voice monotone.

“This is the kind of chocolate you like, right? Or was it the simpler kind?” he asked. She took the box from his hands, staring it up and down. It was the kind she liked, but she kind of didn’t want to admit that. Even so..

“And why are you asking me this? You’re not buying these are you?”

“Well I uh.” he froze, suddenly going a bit red. “I wanted to show a bit of thanks for you coming along but I forgot what your favourite was thats all…” he said, taking the box back from her. “Anyway, who says I can’t buy my girlfriend a gift whenever I want?”

Nene blushed a little. “I mean…um…you can if you want…” she said, trying to hide it with her hair. She turned around, looking at a lot more of the hardened candy, specifically the lollipops and candy canes. Her mouth watered slightly. Candy canes were always nice, but this time she had quite the desire for them. She picked a packet up, just as Tsukasa put his hands on her shoulders which jumpscared her slightly and made her drop the packet.

“Sorry! Did I scare you?”

“Don’t do that!” she said as she picked the packet up from off the floor. “Anyway, we better get our stuff and go.” she said, hurrying over to the register. Tsukasa followed her from behind as she paid and pocketed her sweets, letting Tsukasa take her hand as they left. Though she felt something in that hand. Something spherical and wrapped in plastic. She let go quickly, looking at what she’d been handed, finding a small Lindor chocolate.

She smiled, digging one of the candy canes out of her pocket to hand him in return. Though he tried to push it away at first. “You can’t just give me one thing without expecting something in return y’know!” she said. He shook his head, still refusing it.

“It’s only something small, don’t be all serious about it!” he said. The two of them burst into laughter as he then handed her the bag with a bigger box of chocolates than what he’d initially shown. She smiled, taking the bag from him, and the two shared a kiss as they left the mall.
