Frozen in this Moment

Summary:

Ed contemplates on the nature of ice. Written for day four of Riddlebirdweek. The prompt is 'Ice'.

Notes:

Hello! Another really short one. As usual, please enjoy and excuse any mistakes!

Work Text:

What can’t be burned in fire, nor drowned in water?

What could hold history for a millennium, or disappear under the sun?

Oswald always kept the bedroom freezing, and on nights when Oswald was not inclined to hold his frigid boyfriend close, the temperature became unbearable. Edward often imagined himself encased in a large block of ice, preserved for eternity after having frozen to death in his boyfriend’s freezing room.

As an act of defiance, Edward would often place his chilled extremities against Oswald’s unsuspecting back, earning him an indignant cry and a playful swat from his lover.

Tonight, however, was different. The two cuddled closely in a nest of Oswald’s bedding, Edward reveling in the warmth of his partner, suddenly thankful for the cold that pushed them to huddle against one another.

In this moment, Edward would not mind being entombed in ice. For what better way to be preserved for eternity, than in the arms of his beloved?
