Work Text:
"Hey, I was thinking, since we're not too busy today, why don't we get lunch? We have a good amount of money because we caught that thief yesterday." Train suggested.
"Actually, I was told of a job in the town nearby, I'm planning to go around lunch and will probably be back later tonight." Sven replied.
"I'm planning to go? What about me? Train asked.
"You should take the day off," Sven responded, "You've been working hard, you deserve it." He smiled.
"Well, I guess I could you a day off but I'm not too sure, I rather go with you." Train shrugged.
"I'll be fine, don't worry, Train." Sven reassured, "Anyway, I'm going to go get some more supplies and then I'm leaving, see you later." He then picked up his briefcase and left.
Train laid back down on his bed, "Should I take a day off or should I follow him? He's right I have been working hard but so has he so-" He was cut off when he saw a piece of paper on the floor, "What's this?" He read it and his eyes widen, "He's going to face that guy alone?" He got up, "Looks like I'm not taking a day off today."
Train watched from inside as Sven started the car and left, after the car was a bit in the distance, he went outside and started to follow. To make sure he wasn't seen, he climb up a nearby tree and walked between them, following the car the whole way. It was tiring but he didn't care, he had to make sure Sven wasn't going to get himself killed.
Eventually, Sven arrived in town and got out of the car. Making sure he had gotten far enough away, Train jumped down from the tree he was hiding in, "Finally, that felt way longer than it was." He brushed the leaves off of himself and then hide behind buildings, following Sven as he made his way to an abandoned warehouse with two men with guns guarding the door.
Sven approached the men- "Stop right there!" One of the men said pointing his gun at him, "What business do you have with the boss?"
"I'm here to catch him." Sven responded, bluntly.
"No one is harming the boss on our watch!" The other man shouted, both of them shot, however, Sven dodged them easily. He then grabbed them and hit their heads together, knocking them out. He tied them both up and walked into the building.
Train then approached the building and jumped on the roof and went in through a window. He stopped when he made it into a room with a hole big enough to see into the floor below. Standing right in the middle was a short, slightly overweight, middle age man in a suit, he being guarded by a small group of men, "So that's him." Train whispered. Sven then walked into the room.
The boss looked at him, "How did you get in here?" He asked annoyed.
"Your guards are useless so it wasn't too hard." Sven taunted, he whipped out his gun, which caused the lackeys to get in a defensive position, "And now I'm here to catch you!"
"Get him!" The boss yelled.
The small group of men were already prepared and ran towards Sven, and started to attack. Train got tense, wondering if now was a good time time jump in and help but before he could, Sven took off his eyepatch and revealed that he had an eye under it the whole time but it look different from his other eye. And then he was effortlessly avoiding the attacks.
Train watched in shock, "I never knew Sven had an eye under there. There's definitely something special about it." He thought.
Sven continued to avoid the men's attacks, punching and kicking them as he did. He lead a most of them to the same spot and whipped out a net, catching them in it. He then avoided the remaining men's attacks and causing them to trip over each other and did the same to them.
He was breathing heavily and put in his eyepatch back on, he then approached the boss, "Looks like this is the end of the road for you." He said pointing his gun at him.
The boss smirked and snapped his fingers, "I don't think so." He stated, coldly.
Before Sven could react he was pinned to the floor by a tall, muscular man who proceeded to whip out a gun and point it to his head. Train almost yelled but stopped himself, knowing he shouldn't reveal his position too soon.
The boss laughed, "You fell into my trap! I can't believe you would think I only had those weaklings up my sleeve!" He smiled, "Now, kill him." He commanded.
Sven closed his eye, "I'm sorry Train, I shouldn't have went alone. Looks like I'll be joining you soon, Lloyd." He thought. He then heard a gun go off. For a moment, he thought he had died but then he opened his eye and saw the guard's gun had been shot away. He looked up and saw a familiar pair of golden eyes approaching him. "Train, what are you doing here!?" He asked, "I told you to take the day off."
Train smiled, "I followed you because I was worried." He pointed to the boss, "This guy is know for underhanded tricks and I knew that he wasn't going to go down without using them" He explained. He pointed his gun at the body guard, "If you want someone to fight, then I'll right here." He said cockily while smirking.
The guard charged at Train, readying a punch. Sven gasped, "Train! Watch out!" He yelled, but Train was already ahead of him and when the guard punched, he jumped and avoid the it. He then shot the guard in the arm, causing him to fall back in pain.
"Gotcha." Train said, he then pulled out a pair of handcuffs and pulled the guard's hands behind his back, and cuffed him.
The boss watched in fear, "No! You haven't caught me!" He made a bolt towards the backdoor, running to his car. He looked back and saw Train running towards him, "Please! Don't come near me! I know who you are, you're a legendary assassin!" He fell down into the grass and pulled out his gun. His arms were shaking as he pointed it to Train.
Train smirked, "I am. Sorry, but it looks like your luck has ran out." He then tackled him, grabbing his arms and cuffed him.
Train and Sven walked to the car, having just cashed in on the boss and his lackeys. "T! Why did you come here!? You could have gotten hurt!" S exclaimed.
"You got more hurt then I did." Train replied, "What were you thinking, going to face a gang leader known for underhanded tricks by yourself!?"
"I didn't want you to get hurt! So I decided to go alone! Come on let's-" Sven almost fell over, "Dammit, I overused it."
"That eye?"
"You saw that? Yeah, you're right."
"Why don't we stay here for the night?"
"Good idea."
Sven awoke the next morning and saw Train standing at the door, blocking it. "What are you doing?" He asked.
"We're not leaving until you tell me why you went to face that guy by yourself and what's with that eye!" Train said, pouting.
Sven sighed, "Fine," He sat back down on his bed, "Sit down."
"How should I knew you won't make a dash for it the moment I step away from the door?" Train asked, crossing his arms.
"I won't, I can't just leave you here and even if I do you'll follow me." S replied.
"Good points." Train said, he then sat down next to S.
Sven was quite for a moment, and then said, "About five years ago, I was an agent in the IBI and I had a partner who I considered to be my best friend. We ended up arresting a gang leader." He stopped, "A few days later, we went out drinking and he went home early and I decided to stay for a bit longer and that's when some of his underlings confronted me." He paused again and looked down.
Train knew what had most likely happened but he didn't say anything, waiting for S to be comfortable enough to continue. Sven sighed and continued, "They knocked me out and when I woke up, I was tied up in their hideout. They used my capture to lure my partner to them so they could kill both of us. When he arrived I told him to leave but he didn't listen and gave me the opportunity to escape and stop the men. Doing so, he ended up getting shot multiple times and died."
He pointed to his patched eye, " And this eye was the last thing he ever gave me. During the incident, I ended up losing my eye but he give one of his to me. With it can see the future but it takes a lot of energy to keep using."
"So that's way you didn't want me to come with, this reminded you of what happened back then." Train stated.
"Yeah, I'm sorry, I know you can handle yourself but I was afraid something like that would happen to someone I care about again." Sven said, apologetically.
Train thought about Saya "It's fine, I understand. Someone I considered to be my closest friend was killed shortly before we met, and I decided that I never want to lose someone I care for like that again."
"So we both went through similar things." Sven stated, he paused before asking, "Do you ever wondered why you lived but your friend died?"
Train looked down, "Yeah, I do, I also sometimes blame myself for what happened. If I had been faster or maybe if we didn't meet, would she still be alive? I try not to dwell on those questions but sometimes I can't help it."
"I do too, I wonder why he sacrificed his life for me. He had a wife and daughter, and special eyes but I didn't have anything so why did he chose to save me? I was my fault that I got captured yet I'm still here and he's gone. I don't get."
"We'll never know the exact reason but I'm guessing that he saved you because he cared about you and his family. He knew that if he didn't give you the chance to stop them, they would have went after him and his family next. To ensure the safety of all he cared about, he choose to save you and give you the opportunity to protect his family, even if it meant sacrificing himself in the process."
"That makes sense. He believed that he was given his power to help those he cared for." Sven smiled, "I think I'm starting I understand why things happened the way they did back then."
Train smiled, "I'm glad you feel better," he put a hand on Sven's shoulder, and looked him the eye, "Just one thing- know that no matter what, I'll always have your back. You're the person I care about most in the world. I don't want you to die."
"Same for me." Sven replied.
The two were driving back to the previous town, "I was thinking since yesterday was rough, why don't we take the day off and get dinner at that fancy all you can eat buffet? We have a lot of money because of all those gang member we caught." Sven suggested.
"Of course! Was thinking the same thing!" Train replied.
