Chapter Text
It was a busy day in Cherryton as the city was buzzing with uproar of another mysterious attack that's been going around. A lion savagely mauled a sheep in broad daylight in front of a large crowd. The sheep is expected to make a recovery while the lion was being detained by police at the moment. No one knew what caused the attack or what provoked it. Possible carnivore couldn't resist their hunting urges to their prey. Red fur shined in the sunlight as it hopped up the steps to the Metropolitan Police Department, taking the elevator up to the upper floors. A dark coated horse sat at his desk going through some paperwork of the latest attacks. He heard the elevator dinged and flicked the shutters to his room so that they were visible to see who it was.
A young female rabbit who appeared to be in her early 20's. Her height was abnormally tall for her species to be considered a rabbit. Her fur color was unusual as well, red like a fox. Her red fur with black tints on the end of her cheeks, also in the insides of her ears.
A hybrid. Between a rabbit and a fox. And also, a troublemaker as well.
She opened the door and stepped inside the office, shooting a sharp grin at the horse, seeing him with a solid, unamused expression.
"Yaya! Why the long face? I'd thought you'd be happy to see me!" She sat down on the desk, leaning on it a little.
"Any news on the one who's been doing attacks?" Yahya asked, ignoring the nickname.
"No." Mizu spoke until she saw a bobble head of a white leopard sitting on the desk and started to play with it. Yahya stopped the bouncing head
"Mizu, I know you like to work alone-"
"Yaya, we've been over this. I don't really need help, especially with my skills. And also, the fact, not anyone would want to work with someone like me."
"Every officer needs to have backup, that includes hybrids. I treat everyone equal here. All I'm asking is that you at least choose someone in this building I don't care who." Yahya told her, making Mizu stare at him for a minute, thinking. Then she glanced down at the file that was opened on the desk and saw a picture of a male hybrid animal. He had a tall and muscular build, mixed features of a gazelle and leopard, the leopard side being more dominant. The horns protruded from his head and spots covering the right side of his face as well as spots on his cheeks that gave the appears of freckles. Melon.
"So, you're saying I can choose anyone in this building, anyone?" She asked pointing to the picture. "I choose him."
Yahya's eyes widened in shock. "HIM!?" He exclaimed and he shook his head. "I'm sorry but he is a very dangerous criminal. I cannot have him loose."
"Then I'll look after him. You just said that you treat everyone as an equal what makes him any different from me." Mizu spoke. Yahya said nothing. "Give him a chance, like you gave me."
In a cell, a tall being was sitting in a corner, wearing a dark pink leaf pattern shirt, dark pants, shoes with spikes curved around the end. He humming to himself as he was looking at the letters that were sent to him by fans and admirers. His ear twitched as he heard footsteps coming closer and he turned his head to see Mizu behind him.
"If you're here to bring me food, I'm not hungry. Not that I'd be able to taste anything anyways." He sneered, revealing his sharp teeth.
"I'm not here for that." Mizu spoke.
"Then why are you here? Another admirer, perhaps?"
"Maybe, I just came here to look at you." Mizu smirked, leaning against the cell. "To see the freak that started the whole turf war last year and causing a riot." She joked and then Mizu heard a low growl that came from Melon. Melon stood up and leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, staring back at her. This rabbit reached to about his stomach, unusually tall than most rabbit species. Her fur color is striking different as well.
"You're the one to talk about being a freak. I can see that you're not a purebred, too. A joke to society."
"Yep." Mizu spoke, smiling. "Mama got cozy with a fox and had me and they both lived happily ever after." Melon stared at her quietly. An interspecies relationship that actually worked. There was no way. He didn't believe a single word of it but still listened as she continued. "Speaking of jokes, what do you call a three humped camel?"
"What?" Melon blinked at her.
"What do you call a three humped camel?" Mizu smirked. Melon said nothing and she continued.
"Pregnant!" Mizu laughed. Melon stared at her silently, still confused but also baffled.
Did this woman not care that she was an abomination between species? It reminded him of that wolf.
Mizu stopped laughing, catching her breath. "Jokes aside, that's not why I'm here. You've probably heard about the attacks that's been going on, have you?"
"Carnivores attacking herbivores. Usual urges that they can't contain. Same old story." Melon said, bored.
"Well, I think it's something different going on. The attacks are happening in broad daylight and out of nowhere. Almost as if someone is premeditating the attacks, targeting specific species." Mizu explained. "I need a partner to help me with this."
"Not interested."
"You didn't even hear what I have to say!" Mizu shouted.
"You want me to team up with you and solve the case and when we do everyone will be cheering for joy that the culprit has been caught! But things will always be the same, especially for people such as us, being discriminated."
"You would rather sit here in a cold, dank cell, feeling sorry for yourself then?" Mizu prodded. Then the next thing, Mizu was grabbed by her shirt and lifted into the air as Melon grabbed her. They could hear the officers struggling to open the door that Mizu had locked when she came into the room.
"I could kill you here right now. By then it would be too late for your officers to come rescue you, especially the horse." Melon smirked and rose a sharp talon to Mizu's stomach to slice her open. "There are cameras in this room, and I don't mind giving him a show."
Melon gazed into Mizu's eyes to see any fear any signs of squirming that he loved to see his victims. But to his shock and disappointment, Mizu didn't have a single shred of fear in them.
"How about a deal then?" Mizu spoke, calmly, surprising Melon. "We fight one on one; the officers don't get involved. If I win, you must help me on this case, if we solve it you stay on permanently...-"
"But what do I get when I win, hmm?" Melon smiled and spoke in a taunting voice.
"I think I would be obvious; you get eat me." Mizu pointed out.
"It is a deal then." Melon dropped Mizu to the floor, and she landed on her feet, and she started to unlock the cell, sliding the door open. The officers quickly bombarded the room, surrounding them.
"What are you doing!?" one of them shouted.
Mizu turned to them, smiling.
"Get the sparring arena ready. This is a match that you're going to enjoy."
