Work Text:

Wendy Corduroy was a simple teenage girl who got into some shit like every other teen does.  But when it came down to a certain grumpy old man, she was more than happy to get into some fuck shit when it came to him.  Wendy doesn't say it, but she does care for Stan.

Even if Stan doesn't know.

The first time Wendy Met Stan she was around eight.  Her group for some reason thought it would be hilarious to throw water balloons at the grumpy Mister Mystery.  The memory was still clear as day for her.  Stan had been getting the newspaper in a robe, a piece of his eyebrow seemed to be chard off.  But eight-year-olds didn't care, they just threw water balloons.  Stan had yelled at them as they all ran away laughing, if Wendy remembers properly Thomas wasn't, he was actually scared of Stan when they were all Kids.  Even if Robbie didn't want to admit it— he was too (Wendy knows he still is)

But when Wendy looked back she saw how the old cauger deflated, like his usual fire wasn't there.  The eight year old had stopped.  Her friends called for her but she ignored them.  She said she would catch up to them in a sec, and that she dropped something.

And somehow that eight-year-old redhead spent the whole day with Stan, basking in his affectionate head rubs that mess up your hair.  Listening to jokes she didn't understand until now– that still made her laugh.

Wendy didn't question Stan why his eyebrow was missing or why his fingers were wrapped with bandages.  Tiny burn marks peeking from under the sleeve of his suit.  She didn't ask.

When she accidentally bumped into her friends, they laughed at her.  Calling her Stans nanny.  Wendy's face turned nearly as red as her hair.  She screamed at them to shut up and leave them alone.  Pushing stan along. Well, pushing as much as her eight-year-old strength could manage at the time.

Years later, Wendy sees what Stan had been doing, it was his birthday.  Not just his but also his brothers.

June 14th.

The party he threw in the shack…

All of it.

Stan was alone.

Wendy knew how that was.  She loves her family, but not enough attention is on her, not the amount of love or understanding.

But Stan in his own way— showed that.  Multiple times.

So if you mess with Stan.  You mess with Wendy.

And that's why she's here sitting by his side as the twins fly in from California.
