Chapter 1: Mellow summer

Chapter Text

Summer had finally arrived. After the chaos the school year had brought, it was both a literal and figurative breath of fresh air. With nothing better to do, Kazua had brought Pandora on a walk around town. As he walked down the winding sidewalks, he noticed something new in the distance—a building that seemed to be a restaurant he had never seen before. As he grew closer, he was able to read the sign: Mellow Mushroom. The restaurant will be opening soon, just next week on Friday. A flier stamped next to the sign called out for new hires.

“Pandora, how would you like to try out this place with me?”

Pandora, staring at the meat-lovers pizza on the front, only bobbed her head up and down in response.

“Then it’s settled! I’ll see if anyone else wants to go as well.”

They continued their walk until they came to the familiar dark mansion. Pandora took the opportunity to hop onto the couch and watch more TV while Kazu went up to his lab. He called his dearest best friend to ask him about the restaurant.

“Did you see the new restaurant that opened up? Pandora and I were on a walk, and we passed by it. It looked really good! Do you wanna come this Friday?” Kazu asked over the phone.
“I'm going to be there anyway.”
“Hwat,” Kazu stated, confused.
“I wanted to make some extra cash, so I took up a job there. The manager seemed pretty desperate for workers, so I was hired on the spot." Although barely audible, Kazu could hear him say something under his breath along the lines of “Made a whole resume for no reason..”

Well, since you’re going to be there anyway, maybe Pandora and I can see you?”

“Yeah, sure… just don’t embarrass me, my parents already tried doing that, but I wouldn't budge.”
