Work Text:
The door to the bedroom cracked open, alerting Gunil to a new presence. He glanced up from his phone, a small smile playing around on his lips. He already knew it was Jungsu, his boyfriend of two years. He was, however, caught off guard by just how beautiful Jungsu looked. Of course, Jungsu was always beautiful, but standing there in the doorway, illuminated by the hallway light behind him he looked ethereal. He was freshly showered, barefaced with cheeks still a bit pink from the hot water. He had blow dried his hair so it wouldn’t be wet when he went to sleep and it was sitting fluffy and unstyled over his forehead. He was wearing an actual set of matching pajamas, white with little cherries all over them. Gunil, for possibly the first time in his life, was rendered speechless. He didn’t even realize he was staring until Jungsu spoke.
“Are you sure this is okay? I can sleep in my room.” Jungsu gnawed on his full bottom lip.
He had been sitting slouched against his headboard but Gunil shot up straight at that. They had never shared a bed before, anytime he had stayed the night at Jungsu’s house Gunil had been required to sleep in the guest bedroom, and if Jungsu stayed at Gunil’s house they could sleep in Gunil’s room but the door had to be open and Gunil had to sleep on the floor. So yeah, he understood Jungsu’s hesitance, but the idea of Jungsu sleeping anywhere but right next time to him made him feel a dramatic amount of despair.
The pair had been dating since Gunil’s junior year, when Jungsu was sixteen and Gunil was seventeen. They managed to become close enough before Gunil’s graduation to survive a year long distance when he left for college. Gunil had chosen to attend the same university where his older brother, Younghyun was about to finish his last year. Younghyun had been living in a house with a few roommates and naturally Gunil had moved in with them. Getting to live with his older brother had definitely eased some of the homesickness, but living so far away from Jungsu had been tough. The college was about four hours away from their hometown, which meant he could go home one or two times a month, but it never seemed like enough. Texts and phone calls just weren’t the same.
As Gunil’s first year ended his older brother and his friends all graduated university and Jungsu graduated high school. Younghyun’s friends moved on to their own houses or apartments, although Younghyun opted to stay and commute to his job in a nearby city since their parents owned the house. Regardless, with just the two Goo boys living there it left them with two empty bedrooms. Which was the perfect excuse for Jungsu to move in with him.
Jungsu hadn’t exactly followed Gunil to college, he was much too independent for that. He had, however, found out the same school had a good baking arts program which he would be able to pursue as a double major with a business degree so he could appease his parents while also doing what he wanted to do. His parents made peace with his choice of studies but they were less than thrilled about Jungsu moving in with his boyfriend. They didn’t hate Gunil or anything, but they were more old fashioned and didn’t think Jungsu should be living with someone he wasn’t married to (if it came down to it Gunil would in fact marry him so they could live together, he was down bad.) The compromise ended up being that Jungsu would stay in one of the other bedrooms instead of in Gunils. Thus in a room across the hall sat all of Jungsu’s belongings.
Of course they were planning to move them all into Gunil’s room the following morning.
“Don’t be silly.” Gunil said softly, he made grabby hands at Jungsu. “This is our room now.”
Jungsu ducked his head to hide the flush spreading across his face. They had been talking about this day since Jungsu got his acceptance letter. Now that it had arrived it seemed too good to be true. He finally stepped into the room and closed the door behind him with a quiet click. He paused for a moment longer before padding across the room and standing at the edge of the bed.
Sweeping back the covers and patting the spot next to him, Gunil attempted to contain his emotions as Jungsu slowly climbed in and settled himself into a cross legged position next to Gunil. He was still chewing his bottom lip like it was a piece of gum. A flicker of doubt appeared in Gunil’s mind.
“Hey,” Gunil murmured, placing one of his hands on Jungsu’s knee. “If you’re uncomfortable you don’t have to sleep in here.” It made his chest ache to say, but it was important that Jungsu wanted this too. “I won’t be upset.” He added. Sure, he would be disappointed, but he would never hold that against Jungsu.
Jungsu’s head snapped up, his eyes comically wide. “Of course I want this!” He said incredulously. “I want to sleep here, with you. In our room.” He affirmed. A burst of affection resonated through Gunil’s chest.
Jungsu put one of his hands over top of Gunils, tilting his head down to look at their overlaid fingers. “I just feel a little guilty. I feel like I’m lying to my parents.”
That was understandable. They kind of were lying to his parents.
“We could both go sleep in the guest room if you want. That way if they ask you can at least say you didn’t sleep in my room.” Gunil offered as he laced his fingers through Jungsu’s.
Jungsu snorted. “Definitely not. I do not want to spend our first night alone together in a creepy spare room.”
Objectively the room itself wasn’t really creepy but it was devoid of all personality and stacked full of boxes in a way that did make it feel somewhat eerie. Gunil wasn’t really dying to sleep in there either but he would do it if it made Jungsu feel better. Since it wasn’t going to make him feel better Gunil quickly abandoned the idea.
Gunil shifted onto his knees in front of Jungsu, gently pulling his hand free from Jungsu’s so he could cup his boyfriend’s face. He leaned forward and peppered a few kisses along his cheekbones and nose. Jungsu scrunched up his face in response, whining about how Gunil was going to mess up his skin care, but a giggle escaped regardless.
With one more lingering kiss on his mouth Gunil ended his attack and leaned his forehead against Jungsu’s. “How about we put on a movie and if we happen to fall asleep by accident then..” Gunil shrugged. “Oops.”
Jungsu nodded, the movement shaking Gunil’s head too. “Good plan.”
Gunil beamed, reaching over Jungsu to grab his tv remote off the nightstand. “What d’you wanna watch?”
It took them at least seven minutes of flicking through Netflix to finally settle on putting on Business Proposal, a drama they had both already seen.
Gunil sat back against the headboard again, but this time he held his arm out in a silent request for cuddling.
Jungsu obliged immediately. He scooted forward and tucked himself against Gunil’s side, resting his head against Gunil’s shoulder and threw one of his long legs over top of Gunil’s less long ones.
It always amazed Gunil just how well Jungsu fit against him. Despite the ever growing height distance - they had been almost the same height when they started dating but suddenly in his junior year Jungsu seemed to grow another three inches out of nowhere, which had definitely not been a source of insecurity for Gunil - between them Jungsu never felt awkward or out of place in Gunil’s arms. He belonged there.
As the show played on, Gunil brought his hand up to card through the longer bits of hair around Jungsu’s neck, eliciting a soft sigh from the younger boy.
“Do you wanna lay down?” Gunil offered. Jungsu nodded against Gunil’s shoulder.
Jungsu sat up, watching expectantly as Gunil slid further under the covers and laid his arm back out for Jungsu to rest on. Jungsu followed suit immediately. He laid down on his side and shoved his face practically into Gunil’s armpit, closing his eyes. He wasn’t even pretending to watch the show anymore. Gunil stifled a laugh.
“Shut up.” Jungsu mumbled, the words muffled by Gunil’s t-shirt.
“Good night, sunshine.” Gunil replied softly, the words tinged with fond laughter. His boyfriend was too cute.
“Mmm, g’night.” Jungsu nuzzled a little further into Gunil’s side. His breathing quickly became slow and even. Apparently moving boxes had really taken it out of him.
Gunil allowed himself a few selfish moments of staring at the little bit of Jungsu’s face that was visible. He just couldn’t believe that Jungsu was really here, asleep in his bed. In their bed. He couldn’t believe he was allowed (well sort of) to have this.
In the morning Jungsu would probably wake up anxious about what to tell his parents and he would also probably complain about Gunil’s snoring that was very likely to wake him up at some point, but those were future Gunil’s problems. In the meantime present Gunil turned off the tv and brushed his fingers through Jungsu’s hair a few times before letting his head rest against Jungsu’s. He pressed one last kiss against Jungsu’s temple and shut his eyes.
