Work Text:

Tina jolted awake, having nearly gotten to sleep when she heard a light thud coming from her bedroom window. She squinted at her alarm clock that sat on her bedside table, trying to read the fuzzy numbers glowing on the clock face. Another thud at the window interrupted her as she fumbled for her glasses. Slipping them over her eyes, she glanced at the clock again, and saw that it was just after midnight. She stood up and tiptoed over to see what had made the noises from before, and just as she started to peer outside, a pebble hit the glass in front of her face. Confused, she looked down and saw a tall figure in the back alley staring up at her.

She recognized his face immediately, and slid her window open quietly, making sure she didn’t wake up anyone else in the house. Sticking her head out the window, she hissed at the boy, who wore a sheepish grin on his face at the sight of her.

“What the hell are you doing here? I was almost asleep!” Tina rubbed her eyes, waiting for an explanation.

“Can I come up? Please?” he whispered, not really answering her question. His grin fell as Tina let out a short groan and turned away from the window, and he turned on his feet to grab the bike that he’d propped up by the gate on the side of the lime green building. But before he could move, an emergency ladder tumbled down from the second story window, and he wasted no time, scrambling up to meet his slightly annoyed girlfriend with a cheeky smile plastered on his face.

“Nice pajamas,” he teased, gingerly climbing over the desk that was positioned in front of the windowsill. Looking down, Tina examined her worn-out grey sweatpants and her old “clip-clop and you don’t stop” t-shirt, the design having faded somewhat after wearing it near-religiously for years. She rolled her eyes, choosing to ignore his comment and focusing on getting an answer to her earlier question.

“Do you want to tell me what you were doing outside my window in the middle of the night?” she asked Jimmy Jr, standing in front of the boy and raising an eyebrow as she looked up to match his gaze.

“I missed you,” he said sweetly, wrapping his arms around the shorter teen, burying his face in her dark hair. She softened in his embrace and wrapped her arms around his waist. She sighed and shook her head.

“You’re crazy,” she muttered, amused at how clingy her partner was being. She lifted her head and pecked his cheek.

“Can I stay for a little bit?” Jimmy asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he lowered his face and started planting kisses on her neck. She lifted her chin ever so slightly, chuckling as his lips brushed the sensitive skin, and started backing them up towards her bed. The two teens sat at the foot of the bed, and Tina grabbed onto the front of Jimmy Jr’s shirt, pulling him down as their lips collided. After falling onto her back, Jimmy’s hands went to hold her hips, and she snaked a hand down to grab his butt in response. Tina thought she had heard a plate clinking in the kitchen just then, but she chalked it up to her imagination, preferring to keep making out with her boyfriend rather than going to check on a sound that most likely wasn’t there. But as they rolled onto their sides, Jimmy ended up bumping a glass off of her bedside table, and the noise made them jump up, turning to examine the damage. That’s when they heard a pair of footsteps making their way to Tina’s bedroom door.

Shit shit shit.

Tina did her best to not give in to the groan that was bubbling in her throat, and she motioned for Jimmy Junior to hide under the bed, panicking at the thought of being caught with a boy in her room after dark. Jimmy hopped up and did his best to shimmy under the bed frame as quietly as possible, heart racing from having just torn himself from what was shaping up to be a heated make-out session and at the prospect of being caught. A few soft knocks came from the bedroom door, and Linda’s head popped into view as she cracked the door open.

“Tina, sweetie, is everything alright? I heard a thump, did you fall out of bed again?” Tina’s mom whispered as she opened the door further, looking at her flustered teenage daughter who was standing in front of her.

“Sorry mom, I just knocked over a glass. Nothing to worry about!” Tina blurted out, giving an awkward chuckle as she bent down to pick up the cup that was sitting in a small damp spot. Her eyes flitted over to look under the bed, and saw Jimmy Junior’s wide eyes staring back at her. She stood up quickly, and shifted her body to limit her mother’s view of the room. She tried to change the conversation.

“What are you doing up? I heard some clattering sounds from the kitchen,”

“Oh, Gene and I were making a cheese plate. You know he can’t go back to bed before he’s had some brie,” Linda chuckled. “You should come join us! We broke out some of the fancy crackers that your dad bought the other day,” Tina leaned against the door frame, trying to act casual, and failing miserably.

“Oh, uh, no thanks! I think I’m just going to go back to bed,” She did an exaggerated yawn in hopes of convincing her nosy parent to return to the kitchen. “I’m reeeeeally tired,”

“Okay honey. Let me know if you change your mind!” Linda started to turn around, and Tina breathed a quiet sigh of relief, beginning to retreat back into her room. But her mother stopped and turned her head back towards the dark room, staring at the bed.

“Where are my manners? Hi, Jimmy,” Linda spoke into the bedroom. Tina grimaced as a voice answered from beneath the bed.

“Uhh, hi Mrs. Belcher,”

“You’re terrible at hiding, hon. I could see your shoes from under the bed. Wanna come out for a midnight snack before I send ya home?”

“No, ma’am, that’s okay,” Jimmy answered as he slithered out from under the bed, mortified to see his girlfriend’s mom looking down at him with an expression that said she was none-too-pleased about him being there.

“Your loss. Now go back home. Tina and I need to have a little talk,” Linda turned to look at Tina, who had been frozen for the entire interaction.

“Yes ma’am,” Jimmy responded, his face having broken into a bright shade of red. He turned and made eye contact with Tina, and whispered a quick “sorry” as he made his way through the hall to the stairway. Passing the kitchen, he locked eyes with Gene, who was sitting in the dining room. Gene shook his head playfully at the other boy before returning to the slices of cheese in front of him. Hearing the front door open and shut, Tina looked at her mom, breaking herself out of her trace and giving her a apologetic grin.

“I’m sorry, mom. It won’t happen again!”

“Yeah, you’re damn right it won’t,” Linda said sternly. “I’ll talk to your father about this in the morning and decide what your punishment is,” Then she chuckled.

“What?” Tina asked, confused at the sudden change in her mom’s demeanor.

“That poor kid. His face looked like a cherry tomato!” Linda sauntered back to the kitchen, and poured herself a glass of wine, and Tina collapsed on her bed, groaning as she nodded off to sleep.
