Spoilers for Christmas

Summary:

After having bought a Christmas present for his boyfriend Nate, Kyubi meets his old friend, the spoiler loving Yo-kai Spoilerina. Who upon learning about that decides to do a little Christmas spoiler.

Notes:

Hey, it's been a while.

I'm sorry for not writing anything for quite some time, had some stuff going on including a surgery. I do plan on getting back into writing soon, so here's a quick and cute Christmas Oneshot to get back into the flow of writing.

Work Text:

Christmas, one of the most beautiful times of year...but also one of the busiest ones. People trying to find presents for their loved ones, needing to put them in beautiful packaging, needing to buy and cook food for the family gathering, not to mention all the decoration to show how much they loved this time of year...it truly was a stressful time.

Springdale was no exception to that, as both the Shoppers Row as well as the Sunset Mall were filled with people who were all doing just that. Especially the latter was fully in this Christmas Spirit. People grabbing whatever they can, as the mall itself was beautifully decorated, there as soft snow outside, Christmas music playing loudly over the speakers and echoing through the mall, only rarely interrupted by announcements of falsely parked cars and of children who got separated from their parents...it was a perfect representation of how beautiful and busy this time of year truly was.

In-between the masses of people, there was a single boy. Easily detectable through the purple wool hat he wore on his head, he moved with ease past all these people, unbothered, as if they didn't even exist to him. Quickly, the boy was walking into a specific store that had a long line of people in front of it, all waiting to be let in, as today was a special day for them. Posters were on the wall next to them advertising the release of a new limited figurine that each of the people in the line wanted. No one even noticed the boy quickly enter and leave, figurine in hand. As the boy made his way towards a calmer area of the mall.

“Finally! Humans really are just something else...” Kyubi said, as he sat down on one of the benches in one of the calmer areas of the mall, to catch his breath for a moment. While moving between all these humans was no problem for a Yo-kai so perfect as himself, it still was pretty stressful. To the Yo-kai, right now it felt like he just barely overcame a major battle. After taking a couple of more breaths, he smiled and looked at the figurine in his hands, satisfied. “Good thing I managed to snatch one!”

The figurine was of the character “Mr. Epockman” of the Space Wars series, both of which were written on the packaging. Though this one was special, as this figurine came with a shiny golden body, instead of the characters usual design. Which made it even more valuable. Kyubi just sighed and shook his head.

“I really don't understand this...” But as the boy shook his head, a small smile escaped his lips, as he remembered why he bought this. The memory making all of this stress turn into something more pleasant, as he looked a bit more at the packaging in his hands. “Nate will be so excited for this...”

The thought of his boyfriend, who dreamed of having the figurine, opening up his Christmas present and finding it inside, was something that Kyubi knew would make this whole thing worth it. His love for the human boy being so strong, the Yo-kai would move entire mountains if it would make Nate even just slightly happy.

This was also the reason he was currently wearing warmer clothes than his usual outfit, including gloves, a scarf and wool hat and his sweater being a lot thicker and covering his body up more. As a powerful Yo-kai and fox Kyubi really didn't need any of this, but Nate and even Whisper was insisting for him to wear it all. At first Kyubi didn't see any real reason for it, until his boyfriend pointed out that he should better blend in with the other humans. Still, even as part of a disguise wearing those things was annoying and he couldn't wait to take them off again. But also, the thought that his boyfriend was this worried for him...it really made Kyubis heart beat even more.

After sitting for a few more minutes looking at the package and imagining Nates face, Kyubi began getting up once more.

“Now all I need is putting it in a box and then...” Kyubi started, before stopping. In front of one of the stores next to him, a familiar girl caught his eyes.

It was a young girl, who seemed to be around the same age as his human form and Nate. She had a very youthful face with big black eyes, rosy cheeks and a mischievous smile on her face. Her hair was dark-green and it was tied into two pigtails on each side of her head with flowers inside of them. Her eyebrows were looking like two dots, the same colour as her hair. As for her clothes, she wore a winter jacket with a small flower symbol on her chest, the jacket itself being a little darker coloured than her hair. Her thick gloves were the same colour as her jacket. Despite that, she still wore a a skirt that only went to her knees, white stocking and green ballet shoes.

“Could this be...?” Kyubi wondered as he watched the familiar girl, who walked up to two boys who just bought a new videogame and were clearly excited to finally get home and play it. They didn't notice the girl walking up to them with an innocent smile on her face, as she began speaking to the boys.

“The protagonist sacrifices himself as the end to save humanity. Everyone including his companions forget that he exists, except they imply his childhood friend still remembers and keeps the memory of him within her heart...” As she began spoiling all of the important plot points to them, the two boys looked shocked at her.

“Stop saying that. I don't wanna hear any spoilers for it!” One of the boys begged, while the other one was holding his ears in a desperate attempt to not hear anything.

“Why are you doing this?” The boy holding his ears asked in a desperate attempt to get her to stop, but the girl just kept going.

“As for the villains true identity...” She began grinning, her face getting closer to the two boys, clearly enjoying spoiling them everything. “Who would have actually guessed that he was the protagonists...”

“Lets get out of here!” The boy told his friend, who was still holding his ears shut, before grabbing his arm and running away.

“It was pretty cool that he was actually the protagonists dead father!” She managed to call after them, still loud enough for it to be heard by them. She grinned as she heard the boys groan and picking up the pace even more. She noticed someone walking up to her from behind.

“I see you still enjoy spoiling stuff to others?” Kyubi grinned, this whole scene that just happened confirming his suspicions. “Hey Spoilerina, its been a while...”

“It really has. And let me spoil you this...” The girl smirked...before elegantly turning around and hugging Kyubi tightly. “I missed you!”

“Same, same.” Kyubi chuckled happy, returning the hug right back at her. People around them were smiling as they walked past these two, clearly happy for the reunion of these two friends.

The memories how it started still very fresh in the fox's mind, remembering how he met her when he didn't have all his nine tails yet. Thinking she would be just easy seducable as all the other female Yo-kai. But not only didn't she fall for any of his methods, she quickly turned it around and spoiled the ending of one of the very few books he was reading at the time. And strange as this sounds, this was the beginning of one of the few genuine friendships a prideful Yo-kai like Kyubi would allow himself to have.

“So what have you been up to?” Kyubi asked, as both he and Spoilerina finally broke up the hug. The girl, upon hearing his question, began to giggle cutely.

“You know, just spoiling stuff to both humans and other Yo-kai alike. Seeing their faces or how they try running away to avoid getting spoiled...its always so much fun! I never get tired of doing this!” The legendary Yo-kai laughed out loud, earning a chuckle right back from Kyubi. He knew how much she loved her spoilers, telling people the endings of movies and shows, walking up to people as they are reading a murder mystery...he knew, there was nothing that she wouldn't spoil. After a few moments she looked at him again. “Although there was only one human, who ever managed to evade my spoilers.”

“You're talking about Nate, right?” Kyubi asked, remembering when his boyfriend told him about his adventures with all the Yo-kai he had. “He told me you were quite persistent too.”

“I guess I am...” She said with pride in her voice, as she looked at Kyubi. There was suddenly a knowing smirk on her face. “But yeah, Nate. Your new human boyfriend. The number one thing that all the Yo-kai currently talk about...”

“I have no idea what you mean...” He tries defending himself, though judging by her grin, it was clear that she had none of that. So he just shrugged his shoulders. “Honestly, while I usually love the attention...I don't know why everyone is still talking about it.”

“Well spoilers...” Spoilerina began, looking a little surprised at his reply. “You are Kyubi. The Yo-kai who seduces everyone, who steals hearts and leaves girls and boys alike yearning for you. And...a human boy managed to capture your heart! That is something very surprising and that no one would have ever expected!”

“Hmm...” Kyubi just shrugged his shoulders. Thankfully none of this attention was brought to Nate...so far. And he was hoping that this would stay the case. He didn't wanna cause Nate any more issues than he already did. Thats when he noticed that she had her eyes on the packaging in his hand, a curious look. “Oh, a present for Nate! He wanted to get one, so I wanted to surprise him with it!”

“So a Christmas surprise for him?” Spoilerina smirked, as there was a certain undertone in her voice. Knowing her, Kyubi immediately catched that...and his eyes began widen in fear and shock as he realized what she was gonna implying with that.

“No...please don't tell him...” He tried to beg her, but by that point did she already transform back into her Yo-kai form, giggling.

“Oh, he will be so happy when I spoil it to him!” And with a giggle did she start jumping through the masses of people, an elegance now in her true Yo-kai form. Avoiding each person like a ballet dancer.

“Wait! Come back here!” Kyubi called after her, before starting to give chase. Whatever happened, he knew he had to stop her. He was gonna surprise Nate and he was determined to not let Spoilerina spoil the surprise to him.

“Wait!” Kyubi ran after her right out of the mall, into a massive crowd of people. He was still in his human form as he saw her. She began elegantly jumping from persons head to persons head. Each person she jumped on suddenly grinned and began whispering to their partners and friends.

“Did you hear that Kyubi bought Nate a golden figurine as a present?”

“Kyubi loves his boyfriend so much, he even got him a rare figurine as a present!”

“Its a figurine with a golden look. Its very expensive and rare!”

“Kyubi really must love Nate so much...”

As he began running after her, past the people whispering and smirking at him. Her powers of spoilers and inspirting others truly was terrifying to behold. There was a clear reason she was considered one of the legendary Yo-kai.

Soon he made it out of the crowd of people, desperately looking around for Spoilerina. In the snowfall and with there still being quite a few people around, it made it hard to see the petite, ballerina Yo-kai. Though thankfully after just a few seconds of looking around he spotted her on the other side of the street, waving at him and doing more spins.

“Over here! Do you want me to spoil Nate where you'll hide it too?” She teased Kyubi, clearly enjoying this chase. Though the foxboy wasn't as amused right now, wanting to stop her right here and now.

“Ok, now I have to be serious...for Nate...”After taking a few steps back, he braced himself...before running across the street with such a speed, the cars seemed extremely slow in comparison. As soon as he made it over, he took a look at the package he was holding. It still was undamaged and in his mind he let out a relieved sigh. Quickly though he got back up and looked for Spoilerina...finding that she had already moved and was now standing on the roof of a parked car.

“Oh would you look who is over there?” She asked with with a giggle, before doing a quick spin and pointing down the street. Right there was Katie walking down the street, a happy smile on the girls face, unaware of what was going on. “If you don't want me to tell Nate...then surely she can tell him...”

“Wait, don't do...” But before Kyubi could react, was it already too late and Spoilerina jumped on top of Katies head. The girl stopped moving all of a sudden, going limp. After a few seconds though, she got right back up...now an evil smile on her, as she looked directly at Kyubi.

“I feel like I should pay Nate a quick visit and tell him something...very important” Her tone of voice almost sounding like she was threatening him, something he had never seen Katie before, before she was quickly turning around and starting to run. Unaware that Spoilerina jumped off her head onto a moving car, that went in the opposite direction.

“Have fun!” She called after Kyubi, as the car drove past him, making the fox utter curses under his breath. Though in the end he choose to chase after Katie.

Considering though that Katie was just a human girl, chasing after her was a lot easier for Kyubi, even if Spoilerina seemed to have given the girl some kind of energy. After running past more groups of people, across several streets and one street light, he finally managed to catch up to her as they were running through a park, snow everywhere and barely any people around.

“And...got you!” Kyubi called, as he managed to tap Katie on the back of her head, using his own powers to get rid of the inspirit. As he did that, did the girl stop running and began to look around confused, as if woken up from a long sleep.

“What...what just happened?” Katie asked, her memories feeling fuzzy. She remembered wanting to do some Christmas shopping and then as she was on her way...it was like that part of her mind and memories was completely missing. All she remembered was that she wanted to see someone. But she couldn't remember who and why or why she suddenly was in this park. So in the end, she just shrugged it off. “I guess it wasn't important then...”

Kyubi nodded satisfied, using his fox-like agility to jump up a nearby tree and make sure he stayed out of Katies sight. Smiling as she turned around and began walking back to where Spoilerina originally inspirited her. Speaking of, he began to wonder where she was...as he heard a familiar giggle next to him.

“I gotta say, seeing you chase after her was so much fun!” Spoilerina giggled satisfied, as she looked at Kyubi. “You really gave me something to laugh about.”

“Happy to hear that you had your fun...” Kyubi just sighed, feeling exhausted from all the running around and chasing her. He then felt her hand rubbing his arm.

“Hihi, don't worry. After today, I won't tell Nate anything! I just wanted to have some fun with you...” She giggled as she took a closer look at Kyubi, smiling at what she saw. “You really changed, you know that?”

“What do you mean?” Kyubi was curious what she meant, but as he wanted to look her, was she already gone. Shaking his head, he took another look at the present in his hand, smiling to himself and nodding. “Good. Time to get home and get the present ready for Nate!”

And with that did the fox start jumping from tree to tree making his way back home. Unaware that Spoilerina was watching him from a nearby rooftop and giggling satisfied

“Hihihi, sorry, but that was something I couldn't spoil...” And with that did she jump the rooftop down, landing elegantly in the snow, having turned back into her human form. “Well, its time for me to find someone else to spoil things to!”

And with that did she went her way too.
