Chapter Text

Shortly after starting my second year of school, I began to feel as though two beasts were silently stalking me across the campus, secretly watching me when I talked to others or simply hiding their true intentions when they decided to show their faces.
And although it’s bothersome, I can’t bring myself to hate them.
The first one is in my class, and while I’ve often thought she’s nothing more than a hopeless pervert, deep down, I know and understand that she simply hides her abilities because she prefers to slack off. I’ll never forget when I found out she had passed the third-year exam while still in her first year at Trinity, but sometimes it’s unbelievable to think that this incredible student now spends her days reading books by the fountain, playing pranks on me whenever she can, and breaking every possible ethical and moral rule of Trinity.
The second one shouldn’t still be studying at this academy, but after what happened last year and the bad reputation she earned among the crowds and authorities, she ended up having to repeat the course. I’ve only spoken to her once about it, and she always replies “It’s better to be treated like a fool for repeating a year than to keep being called a witch for the rest of my life". She says it all with her usual calm and cheerful demeanor, though I’ve already seen how she truly is and how lonely she feels when no one is around.
I know both beasts firsthand, and I’ve always believed they’re good friends despite everything. But now, as I organize my bag and take out the "forbidden book" to place it on my personal shelf, I can’t help but wonder why there are two pieces of paper at the bottom of my bag.
The first one has a floral scent that’s easily recognizable, as it’s the same scent that emanates from the pink hair of the girl who joins me in the Make-Up Work Club. The paper simply says, "I know your secret, and if you don’t want it revealed, come see me when the moon dances in the cathedral", decorated with a kiss as a signature.
The second smells like sweets and pastries, and though more subtle, it hides small heart-shaped flourishes among the perfect and classic handwriting. The message is clearer than the first, as it’s a direct invitation to meet at a certain time and place far from the main campus. The signature is as meticulous as the rest of the calligraphy, which was to be expected considering she was once part of the Tea Party.
Seeing the two messages made my wings, which I had just neatly folded, stand on end, slowly fluttering in sync with the beating of my heart.
I hugged my pillow and reread the two notes, confirming that the senders were none other than the very beasts that had been following me throughout that month of classes.
My heart began to race again.
Though they terrify me (one for always hiding her thoughts and the other for her explosive personality), part of me wants to end this guilty anxiety that’s haunted me since the day I accepted them as my friends.
At the end of the day, the only monster here is me, for having fallen in love with the two people who trusted me, keeping it all to myself and lying to avoid hurting anyone.
It’s horrible to think these feelings might spark a conflict between the two people who have helped and pushed me to grow the most, but once again, I’m the one responsible for this entire situation.
Silence is not a good confidant.
Sooner or later, the secrets we keep at this academy will have to come to light.
