Work Text:
Weekend is another cult. Natsuki Hana figures this out rather quickly. It should bother her more than it does, but, ultimately, Weekend is a necessary evil. Their goal is to stop Gifu and save humanity.
And Hana can hardly just leave Sakura there, now that she’s joined her.
Her main problem, if she’s honest, is Hikaru.
Too fresh of a reminder. Too like her. Raised by adults with bigger plans, loving more than he should. Clinging to Sakura the same way. She knows he thinks of his “parents” as family. She doubts they feel the same way.
What will he do when he’s thrown to the side? Hana is not so stupid as to consider her own actions rational.
Will he lash out? And at who?
Hana cannot trust someone like that. Much less with the girl that gave her life.
Sakura is unfairly mundane as much as she is unfairly wonderful. Growing ever stronger. Glowing ever brighter. Perhaps they are both flowers but Sakura is Hana’s sunlight and the air she breathes.
She’s also kind of dumb as a brick. Kind of like a boy, except she’s a young woman. Hana doesn’t know her own age - perhaps 20? Older than Sakura, but not by much.
“Real family”, “sisters”. Such odd words to put to their dynamic. Of course Sakura doesn’t know they’re dating. Of course she loves Hana anyways. Hana would laugh about it but it’s so utterly incomprehensible.
I’ve been between your legs and you say—
(Or maybe that at least explains her demon.)
Hana tries not to think too much about it all, except when it all was happening.
God, she’s such an idiot.
“Don’t you want a family?” Her demon asks. Of course she does. But when she thinks of family it’s a bathhouse and an energy of trust in all of the insanity. It’s Sakura, always.
“Real family.” What a joke. She has a real family. It’s Sakura, it’s Tamaki.
But Sakura said that. What does it mean?
She’s never thought of anyone but Gifu. Except Sakura.
“This one won’t shove you somewhere else,” her demon says.
Sisters. What a joke. Hana breaks and maybe does something stupid she hasn’t done in public before. She pulls Sakura into a kiss.
“Mf!” Sakura manages, before lifting Hana up and kissing her back.
“More than sisters,” Hana says. “Family.”
Sakura grins something goofy and ridiculous.
“I hear mom and dad eloped.”
Hana tenses.
Marriage is still a sore spot for her.
“Or maybe not yet,” Sakura says, taking Hana’s hands. “We still have a ton to do. But one day?”
“That may genuinely be the worst proposal of all time.”
Sakura pouts and crosses her arms.
“Well then I’m not proposing.”
Hana laughs.
Yuriko doesn’t call her immediately. It’s some time later later, and Hana is surprised to answer the call.
“Hey!” She exclaims. “Is it something important? I’m at work.”
“Bluebird, right?” Yuriko asks. “…You sure that’s not another cult?”
“Yeah, fairly confident,” Hana offers. “See us on the news?”
“That’s right… would you like to meet for ice cream?”
“I have a girlfriend,” Hana teases.
“I know,” Yuriko replies. “I’m surprised you do.”
“We worked on it.”
Yuriko is staring at her hands when Hana gets there. Hana knows the habit. Nothing quite feels real when she’s alone. She rarely is, always staying at Sakura’s side when possible. That’s one downside of Bluebird, being so far from Sakura - and Sakura has to retake third year too.
“So, are you familiar with ice cream?”
“Sometimes,” Yuriko says. “Treats were for good daughters.”
And she was a good daughter. That only makes sense.
“I see,” Hana says. “Let’s go order, then.”
“What do I do?” Yuriko asks. “I can’t figure it out. My whole life, I followed moth— that woman’s orders.”
“Whatever you want,” Hana says. “That’s the fun part. You could always join Bluebird’s rehabilitation program like me.”
“I’m still not convinced that’s not another cult.”
“I am,” Hana says. “Trust your sister?”
Yuriko sighs, stirring her ice cream down to a creamy texture.
“I don’t think I trust anything, now,” she says.
“I know,” Hana says. “Find someone you can, or something. It gets better from there.”
“Like your girlfriend?”
“Exactly.”
