Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

“I’m tired…” The white haired boy growled.

“Class hasn’t even started yet, you bum.”

It was 7:50, around 10 minutes before class started. Nagi and Reo were hanging out, as usual. They were both seated at the back of the class, the white haired boy was positioned near the window, while his friend was adjacent to him. Their first class was Mathematics, which made Nagi feel even more lethargic as usual.

“Math as a first period? Seriously…” Nagi complained, throwing himself over his desk.

Reo sighed. “Calm down. The week hasn't even started yet.”

“Ugh. I hate this..." Nagi mumbled.

“Yeah, my bad. I forgot you think everything is a drag.” Reo scoffed, ruffling Nagi’s hair.

Nagi folded his arms on the surface of the desk, sinking his face into the crook of his elbow, letting out a muffled groan. He yawned while slowly closing his eyes.

Meanwhile, in the hallways…

“Ah! Sorry!” A girl said, bumping into someone in the corridor. She was fast-walking through the hallways. Her hair was a mess. Her long-socks weren’t pulled up properly, and her blazer was still unbuttoned. She skimmed through the long hallways, each swing of the bag made the tremendous amount of keychains on her bag jingle, making it a tad bit embarrassing to be walking so fast in a hallway.

It was 2 minutes before the first period. “Shit…” She whispered. She was so close but yet so far— the hallway near her classroom was clearing up, indicating that all of the students were inside waiting for the teacher. She arrived shortly after, everyone in the classroom was still chit-chatting with one another. The girl sighed in relief, scurrying towards her seat.

She sat down, taking out her phone from her pocket, using the camera app as a mirror to fix her hair. The girl swiftly tidied herself up, buttoning her blazer, pulling her socks up properly, and overall composing herself.

Class started a few minutes after. It was the first class of the day, and to say the least, it was boring. Half of the class was spent doodling in random corners of her notebook, looking out the window, checking her wristwatch, looking up at the board— she was doing anything to pass  the time.

The teacher called out the girl’s name.

The girl jolted in her seat, she immediately snapped out of her thoughts. She looked at her teacher with a shocked look on her face. The sudden abruptness of her name being called immediately brought her back to reality.

“I see you’re constantly writing in your notebook. I’m assuming you’re taking notes. So come up here, answer this question.”

“Ah, shit.” Her internal thoughts echoed. She reluctantly nodded and went up to the chalkboard.

Nagi on the other hand, had just woken up from his nap. It was easy for him to get away from napping in class, since he sat in the back; the teachers didn’t really see him sleeping, on the occasion that they do, they just scold him for it.

He focused on the girl walking up the chalkboard. Although he couldn’t really get a proper glimpse of her as she was turned around.

She picked up the chalk and started solving. It wasn’t anything super complex or anything, it was just a regular question. After a minute or so, the girl stopped writing on the board. She turned to her teacher for a look or a nod of approval, hoping that her answer was right.

“Very good.” The teacher nodded.

She sighed, feigning relief. She walked back to her seat to zone out once more.

Nagi, on the other hand, just plopped back onto his desk and fell asleep once again.

“Well, that’s all for today. By the way, the project I gave you…” The teacher picked up a piece of paper from the table and stuck it on to the chalkboard.

“Your partners are posted here,” He turned towards the board and pointed at the paper, “Don’t forget. Just check it out. I already sent the instructions online. Bye everyone.” The teacher then left the classroom.

Everyone sprung up from their seats to the board, to look for their partners. The girl stood up too, wanting to know who she got partnered up with.

To her dismay, the girl found her name beside an unfamiliar one.

“Nagi Seishiro?” The girl pondered, quickly whipping her head back and forth from the paper on the board to the class to scout for this Nagi Seishiro.

Reo stared at the girl, he wondered as to why she was constantly checking back and forth from the list to the class. He took a glance at the list, just now realizing why the girl was acting so weird. “Ah, unlucky. You got Nagi, goodluck with him.” Reo chuckled.

Her lips curled into a frown. “Didn’t even know that guy existed.” She sighed.

Reo chuckled even more. “You should probably talk to him now or he might forget that there’s a project.” He pointed to the only guy snoozing off in the room. His pale white hair fell messily around his face, his cheek resting up against his arm as he slept.

“I didn’t know you were friends with him, Reo.”

“Well, we became friends just recently.” Reo mentioned.

The girl raised an eyebrow. “Recently?”

Reo nodded. “I’ll introduce you to him so that it’ll be less of a hassle for you.” He smiled.

“Sure thing.” She smiled back.

The both of them walked to the back of the classroom.
