Chapter Text
The first incident was in Qingqing City. Luna narrated. An extraordinary child was born who radiated light. After that, reports of people with superpowers popped up across the globe. No one knew what was causing these Quirks. The world became a superhuman society, with about 80% of the population possessing some uncanny ability. Our streets looked like scenes from comic books. As cities swirled with chaos and confusion, a new profession dominated our collective consciousness. It was an age of heroes.
A four-year-old Luna was sitting on the couch to watch her parents on TV in the living room.
"Fear not, citizens. Hope has arrived. Because we are here." All Might and Tarot Chariot said with a heroic laugh.
"Mommy and Daddy are the coolest heroes in the universe!" Luna smiled widely.
And once I get my Quirk, I'm gonna be a hero just like them! Luna added. I was born with an energy-based superpower from my mother and my parents put me through intense training to become stronger and faster than ever before.
Under a full moon on the blood red sky, Luna was surrounded by numerous villains.
When I enrolled to UA, an unknown force of my Quirk was unleashed within me and I almost took down one of the Shatrix and the Nomu that was sent to kill my dad. Luna continued. Even though that unknown force continued coursing through me, I knew I was born to follow my parents' footsteps as a hero. And thanks to the people who guided me and supported me, I am here now. On my way.
A glowing pink triquetra mark appeared on her forehead, making Luna activate her Divine Trinity Quirk just as the villains sprang up in the air to strike her with their own Quirks.
My dream is becoming reality. And no matter what danger comes in my way, I keep pushing forward. Luna concluded. My journey is just beginning because this is the story how I became the world's greatest hero.
Luna formed a wide smirk on her face and released a powerful pink energy blast that blew the villains away sky high.
It became a peaceful, calming day in Tokyo until a massive number of citizens began watching the news on the jumbo screens from different buildings around different sides of the area. The news screen showed a female brunette newscaster pulling up an image of the UA training center on the screen that read "Follow-Up Report: U.A. High School Attack".
"Up next: an update on yesterday's incident at the UA rescue training center where hero course students were attacked by a gang of villains." The newscaster reported.
The female newscaster then pulled up another image of several police cars and prison buses in front of the UA training center on the screen that read "At the scene - Unforeseen Simulation Joint (USJ)".
"According to new police officials, the criminal forces called themselves 'The League of Villains.' Investigators have reportedly uncovered that this group has been plotting to kill UA teacher and popular hero All Might since the spring of this year." The newscaster continued. "Police arrested 72 villains at the scene, but the League's leader escaped. His whereabouts are unknown."
In the nighttime, Detective Tsukauchi stood in front of the investigation reports as Principal Nezu, All Might, Tarot Chariot, Snipe, Midnight, and Vlad King have gathered inside the UA High conference room.
"Our investigators are trying to learn everything they can about this so-called 'The League of Villains.' We've made some progress, but we can't find anything on this Shigaraki so far." Tsukauchi reported as he was looking authoritatively at the record papers in his hands. "We've searched our records for men in their 20s or 30s who are registered as having some sort of disintegration Quirk, but so far, we've come up empty. Same with the Warp Gate villain, Kurogiri. So, they're not citizens or they're using aliases. Hard to find, either way."
"So, what you're really saying is we don't know anything." Vlad King said.
"We've gotta track 'em down. I shot their ringleader, but once he heals up, he'll probably try pulling something like this again. What a pain." Snipe stated.
"He did seem like the type." All Might muttered.
"Is something on your mind, All Might?" Nezu asked.
"The attack on the USJ was too bold. No sane adult would ever attempt it. The ringleader kept monologuing about the reasons he was there. And he bragged about Nomu's many Quirks, but he never said a word about his own powers. When things didn't go his way, he was visibly upset. Like he was gonna throw a tantrum." All Might explained. "Ahh, I guess bragging about Nomu's Quirks was a quick way to draw me into a fight."
"That might be true, yes, but strategically, it was foolish to reveal his Quirks up front instead of keeping them a secret." Nezu pointed out.
Tsukauchi nodded his head at Nezu in agreement.
"Shigaraki made wild, immature claims, but did so with a completely straight face." All Might said. "And he talked about Nomu like he was some kind of a pet. It seemed like he'd never been told 'no' before. Like he thought things would go his way no matter what. He has the personality of a spoiled little brat. A man-child."
"A child with incredible power, though." Vlad King pointed out.
"It's possible he never got the Quirk counseling students receive in elementary school." Midnight said.
"Maybe so, but it doesn't really matter now." Snipe said.
"There were 72 villains arrested in the aftermath of the USJ attack." Tsukauchi reported. "They were all small-time thugs who usually lurked around back alleys. What worries me is that this 'man-child' got them all to follow his crazy plan. They viewed him as a real leader. Criminals are starting to feel more pressure now that the world is brimming with heroes. That could be why they were so quick to back such simple-minded villainy."
"Guess that makes sense." Vlad King said.
"There are a plenty a people out there looking for a cause to get behind." Snipe added.
"So, what can we do to stop them?" Midnight wondered.
"Well, it is thanks to you heroes that we have the time to devote ourselves to this case." Tsukauchi responded. "We'll expand our investigation and continue searching for the perpetrators who planned this attack."
"A man-child, huh?" Nezu asked.
Nezu's words caught All Might's attention.
"In some ways he shares common ground with our students. They both have so much potential. And, like our students, I suppose it's possible someone is guiding him, trying to nurture his malice and villainy." Nezu clarified.
All Might let out a worried sigh.
I don't wanna think about what that could mean. All Might thought.
"What's the matter, Chariot?" Midnight asked Tarot Chariot. "You've been awfully quiet since the meeting started."
"I just can't stop thinking about those Shatrix girls from the USJ incident." Tarot Chariot replied with a firm look on her face. "From what I've heard from Luna, they were ordered to capture her to their so-called master. And all top of that, my daughter went out of control when she fought against one of those girls and that Nomu."
"I know, darling." All Might said, placing his hand on top of his wife's hand. "That's something she can't control on her own. And here I thought all those years of training would help her change that."
"I don't have a record on them or their master." Tsukauchi explained. "But I assure you that we will find their mastermind and bring them to justice."
"Thank you." Tarot Chariot said calmly. Anything to keep our daughter safe. Until then, I'll have to learn more about this "master" out of them.
That night, Luna was waiting for her ramen noodles in the microwave inside the kitchen.
School was closed the day after the League of Villains attacked the USJ. I think they wanted us to have a little break, but it was tough to relax. Luna narrated.
Luna took out her bowl ramen noodles and sat on the couch to watch childhood videos on TV. One scene showed Ursula and Luna sitting on All Might's arms while All Might himself was flexing his strength with a bold smile. The second scene showed All Might and Tarot Chariot celebrating Luna's eighth birthday when Luna was blowing the candles as eight-year-old Diana, Aisha, and Selene were cheering with claps. The third scene showed ten-year-old Luna, Selene, Aisha, and Diana were having a sleepover while playing truth or dare with each other.
I'm still so far away from controlling my anger through Divine Trinity. Luna added. During the USJ attack, my friends and I fought those Shatrix squad. Even Midoriya told me what happened to Mr. Aizawa and Thirteen when we got separated. And on top of that, the exposure of my outraging outburst through that mysterious triquetra symbol was discovered by Todoroki, Kirishima, and worse of all Bakugo. But if it weren't for my dad, my mom, and our teachers, we never would have stood a chance against those villains.
Luna managed to finish her ramen noodles with a sad frown and began meditating with her legs crossed.
In order to truly oppose evil, I have to continue practicing my Quirk on my own this time. Luna continued. I have already master every aspect of it through a series of blasts, beams, and bolts, but I really need to control and channel my emotions through it until the Shatrix, Shigaraki, and his League of Villains will come back hunting me again. I'll make my parents proud of me for becoming a hero they train me to be.
After few minutes of mediating, Luna stretched her limbs and began heading for bed.
The next morning, all Class 1-A students were currently discussing about their appearances on the news in their respectful seats inside their classroom.
"You guys! Did you watch the news last night?" Hagakure asked.
"Yeah." Ojiro replied.
"It was so cool that we got a few seconds of screen time!" Hagakure said excitedly. "Though I bet nobody noticed me hanging out in the background."
"Probably not." Shoji remarked.
"It is difficult to stand out when you're just gloves." Ojiro pointed out with a sweatdrop.
"We're totally big deals." Kaminari said to Kirishima. "Those new channels love us. We're basically celebrities."
"Yeah, it's kinda crazy, right?" Kirishima agreed.
"Get over yourselves." Jiro said coolly. "The hero course that pumps out pros was attacked, and that's what they care about."
"Who knows what happened to us if the teachers hadn't shown up." Sero stated.
"Why'd you say that?" Mineta shouted frantically. "I'm gonna pee myself just thinking about it!"
"Oh, shut up! Grow a pair, loser!" Katsuki shouted irritatedly to Mineta.
As everyone continued discussing about the USJ incident, Luna turned her attention to her friends between her. Diana crossed her arms over her chest and looked down at the desk with a firm face, Aisha was levitating her pens with her Quirk, and Selene was reading her novel in her hand with a compose look on her face. Luna noticed they have been silent ever since her out-of-control rampage against Nomu in USJ. She knows that if it weren't for Diana's blue aura Quirk, she would've gone on a killer spree.
"Morning, class."
All Class 1-A students turned their attention to Aizawa, who was standing at the entrance while being completely covered in bandages.
"Mr. Aizawa, what are you doing here?" Class 1-A students exclaimed in surprise.
"Whoa! What a pro." Kaminari said in awe.
Aizawa began walking his way towards his desk.
"Mr. Aizawa. I'm glad you're okay." Iida cried as he raised his arm up in the air.
"You call that okay?" Uraraka asked in worry.
"My wellbeing is irrelevant." Aizawa said. "What's more important is that your fight isn't over yet."
"Our fight?" Katsuki repeated.
"Don't tell me…!" Izuku said in surprise.
"Not more bad guys!" Mineta pleaded anxiously.
"The UA Sports Festival is about to start." Aizawa announced.
"Yes!" Kirishima and Diana cheered excitedly.
"Ugh! Why would you scare us like that?" Class 1-A cried in unison. "The Sports Festival!"
"Let's go kick some ass!" Kirishima and Diana shouted excitedly with pumping smiles.
"Wait a second." Kaminari said, pushing Kirishima's face to stop him from pumping up.
"Is it really such a good idea to hold the sports festival so soon after the villains snuck inside?" Jiro asked.
"They could attack once we're all in the same place." Ojiro added.
"Apparently, the administration thinks this is a good way to show that the threat has been handled and our school is safer than ever." Aizawa explained. "Plus, they're beefing up security compared to past years. This event is a huge opportunity for all students at UA. It's not something we can cancel because of a few villains."
"Wow, Diana. You're really making a big deal out of this." Selene whispered to Diana.
"Uh, hello, the Sports Festival is a huge deal." Diana murmured with a smile. "My dad and I watched the event every year since I was a child. Even our parents were there back in their day."
"Our Sports Festival is one of the most watched events in the world. In the past, everyone obsessed over the Olympic games." Aizawa explained. "But then, Quirks started appearing. Now, the Olympics have been drastically reduced in terms of scale and viewership. For anyone who cares about competition, there's only one tournament that matter. The UA Sports Festival."
"That's right. And top heroes everywhere will be watching." Yaoyorozu added. "This is where you get scouted."
"Sure, unless you're dead." Mineta remarked worriedly.
"She's right. After graduating, a lot of people join pro agencies as a sidekick." Kaminari said cheerfully.
"Yeah, but that's as far as some people go." Jiro added. "They miss their chance to go indie and stay eternal sidekicks. Actually, that's probably where you're headed. You're kinda dumb."
Kaminari dropped his thumb-up with his annoyed face.
"It's true that joining a famous hero agency can garner you greater experience and popularity." Aizawa continued. "That's why the festival matters. If you wanna go pro one day, then this event could open the path for you. One chance a year. Three chances in a lifetime. No aspirin hero can afford to miss the festival. That means you better not slack off on your training."
"Yes, sir!" Class 1-A responded.
"Class is dismissed." Aizawa concluded.
As soon as the lunchtime bell rang, all Class 1-A students had forgotten all about the USJ attack and began pumping themselves up for the Sports Festival.
"That villain stuff sucked, sure, but I'm pumped for these games!" Kirishima cried excitingly.
"Gonna love Kirishima's fiery confidence." Diana said as she stared at Kirishima chatting with Sero, Sato, and Tokoyami. "He's definitely on a roll for the sports festival."
"Hey, that's why we're here." Selene grinned. "We have to show the world how useful we really are."
"I've bet you're excited about the Sport Festival too, Aisha." Luna said to Aisha.
"Yeah, thrilled." Aisha replied dryly.
"Everyone! I'm gonna do my best!"
Diana, Selene, Luna, and Aisha turned their heads to see Uraraka raising her fist in the air with her game face before suddenly standing right in front of them.
"I said I'm gonna do my best!" Uraraka shouted determinedly.
Diana, Selene, Luna, and Aisha immediately raised their fists in the air.
"Yeah!" Luna and Diana cheered.
"Alright!" Selene smiled.
"Yay." Aisha said unenthusiastically.
As Luna and her friends exited their classroom, they walked through the hallways on their way to the cafeteria.
"Man, I am pumped." Diana smiled excitedly. "I can't wait for the battles after the cavalry course is over."
"You're just saying that because you want to fight either Bakugo or Kirishima." Aisha said.
"Well, yeah, why would I not?" Diana said.
"Just remember if we're gonna show the world what we can do, we must train hard than ever before." Selene reminded.
"Yeah." Luna said with a frown.
"Hey, come on, Luna." Diana said, placing her hand on Luna's shoulder. "It wasn't your fault."
"Diana's right. You were trying to save your dad. There's nothing wrong about that." Aisha said.
"I know, but you guys saw the way I was acting. I couldn't control myself." Luna said sadly. "Now that Bakugo and Todoroki witness the mysterious power within me, there's no doubt they'll see me as their target in the Sports Festival."
"What about Kirishima and Midoriya?" Selene asked.
"The least of my worries." Luna replied. "I just have focus on Todoroki and Bakugo for now."
Suddenly, the girls heard a familiar heroic laugh and turned their heads to see All Might running towards them.
"Young Luna is here!" All Might cried out as he immediately stopped right in front of his daughter and her friends.
"Oh, hey, dad. What brings you here?" Luna asked.
"Looking for you, of course." All Might replied. "Care to eat with your daddy?"
"So lucky!" Diana and Selene exclaimed.
"You can't say no to that offer." Aisha commented.
"Okay. See you guys later." Luna said.
With that, Luna and All Might walked their way to the lounge room together.
I have a feeling this is about the Sports Festival. Luna thought.
Selene, Aisha, and Diana were heading for a table near the windows inside the cafeteria as they sat down into the chair with food trays in their hands.
"What do you think All Might want with Luna?" Diana asked.
"Well, Luna did try to stop Nomu when All Might was attacked during the USJ incident." Selene replied. "No doubt he wants to talk to her about that power boost outrage."
"Yeah, let's forget about the witnesses." Aisha pointed out. "Not only those villains saw Luna's brutal fighting, but Midoriya, Kirishima, Todoroki, and Bakugo saw it too. I don't know about Midoriya, but Bakugo and Todoroki will keep their eyes on her for sure, especially for the Sports Festival."
"I hope Luna will be okay." Selene said in worry.
"I have faith in Luna." Diana said firmly. "She was trained by the world's greatest heroes as her parents. Trust me, she can handle herself."
Unknown to the girls, Shoto was glaring at them while listening to their conversation from the table next to them.
So, not only Izuku Midoriya, but Luna Yagi as well? Shoto wondered.
In the lounge room, Luna sat on the chair next to Izuku as they were talking about All Might's time limit and the sport festival over tea.
"Only 50 minutes?" Izuku and Luna said in shock.
"Yeah." All Might said as he was making green tea in a teapot by using the tea machine. "That's about how long I can use my power now. I overdid it too many times. That Nomu was a real tough customer. He took a lot outta me. Not even Luna's mysterious power can take him down. At this point, I can barely even look like All Might for an hour and a half."
"I'm so sorry." Izuku apologized. "I should've just..."
All Might sprouted out blood with a laugh, making Izuku and Luna yelp in a mix of shock and surprise.
"You don't need to apologize for anything. Man, we are alike, you and me." All Might said. He handed over two cups of green tea to Izuku and Luna. "Have some tea."
"Thanks." Izuku said.
"What's the matter, Luna? Is there something on your mind?" All Might asked.
"It's about that mysterious power." Luna replied. "Even though I tried to ignore it with a straight face, I still can't stop shaking about it. All that anger and vengeance really took a toll on me. I'm sorry I got out of control."
"Like I said, you don't need to apologize. Your mother and I were aware of that." All Might said. "We know you were still haunted about your fight with Nomu and that villain girl. I'm glad you were able to save me just in time for me to beat them. And for that, I'm grateful. I actually brought you two here to talk about the festival. And young Midoriya still can't fully control One for All yet. So then, what's your plan?"
"I'm sure mom got some new training in mind for me." Luna replied. She turned to Izuku. "What about you, Midoriya?"
"Wait, I did once!" Izuku gasped. "When I landed a smash on that brain villain, there was no backlash at all!"
"Wow. Can't say I'm impressed." Luna said with a smile.
"Oh, that's right, you did mention that." All Might exclaimed. "What was different about that smash?"
"Let's see. We were facing real villains and I didn't have much time to think, but maybe that's part of it, since I knew this wasn't just more training." Izuku explained. He looked at his hand and then clenched it into a fist. "This was the very first time, ever, that I used my power against a person."
"Hm, sounds like you succeeded in subconsciously putting on the brakes so you wouldn't have to kill anyone." All Might clarified. "Hey, that's some kind of progress at least. Your teas are getting cold."
"Oh, right, thank you." Izuku said, grabbing his cup of tea from the table.
Luna grabbed her cup of tea from the table and started drinking half of it.
"To be frank, I don't have much time left as the world's Symbol of Peace." All Might said, getting up from the sofa chair and walking towards the window. "Soon, I'll have to put that title to bed."
"No way." Izuku said, looking down with a frown.
Only Luna remained silent with a concern expression.
"And some villains out there are starting to notice that. Someone has to step up and keep the people safe." All Might said.
Izuku gasped as he and Luna stood up from their seats.
"I gave you my power for one reason: cause you and Luna will be the hero who takes my place." All Might said to Izuku with a clenched fist. "Do you still feel the same way you did when we met? Do you still wanna be a hero?"
"Yes." Izuku answered with nod.
"And you, Luna? Even if you have to reveal yourself as my daughter in the world?" All Might asked Luna.
"Of course, I do. More than anything." Luna replied.
"Excellent. The time has come for you two to prove it." All Might said. "This sport festival. It's something that the pro—no, the entire country will be watching very closely. I want you two to think of this sports festival as your debut. You are the fledgling Symbol of Peace. The next All Might!"
Everything around Izuku and Luna started shaking intensely for All Might's declaration.
"Izuku Midoriya and Luna Yagi." All Might said with a firm face. "I want you to introduce yourself to the world and proudly say 'I am here!'"
