there was always something magical about the first snow of winter that made hanni feel like the happiest girl in the world.
there was that feeling of serenity and calm that comes from snowy environments which she loved feeling every winter. it would prompt nostalgic memories of childhood fun and holidays spent yearning for a white christmas, it just made her happy.
so when the first snow arrived early in the morning, hanni got up as fast as she could, slipping on her favorite boots as she made a dash out to the front of the dorm, wearing her long sleeve pajama shirt and joggers.
there it was.
a fresh blanket of snow, covering the entire landscape of the area, as more snow fell down gracefully from the sky. hanni was enjoying the sound of silence, watching the snow flutter down like magical confetti, which felt so healing to her. she watched as the trees were heavy with snow on its tips, smelling damp pine cones from a distance. it was as if she never felt this happy before.
that was until she took a few steps outward, with her last step causing her to take a small slip into a soft blanket of snow. she was laughing her ass off from being so reckless out of nowhere, all alone. the gleaming snow around her was what made her choose to stay grounded on the floor, expanding her arms and legs, making a snow angel.
it was only a matter of time before hanni started experiencing a frost bitten feeling around her body, numbing her as she continued playing in the snow. but, of course, hanni’s stubborn self didn’t exactly have plans on going back inside just yet.
meanwhile, back inside the dorm, minji has just woken up from a surprisingly good sleep. her insomnia had laid off last night. she actually woke up peacefully.
she fixed herself up quickly, put her favorite jacket on, and took a look out her bedroom window; seeing white, as she discovered the first snow of the season.
what she then noticed was hanni, lying down on the carpet of snow, with a smile on her face. minji felt a smile on herself growing too fast for her liking. she always kept her relationship with hanni to a friendly teasing, but deep down, she always wanted something more than that with her.
minji took a closer look at hanni… with tingling cold finger tips, shivering slightly. she wondered why she wasn’t coming back inside to warm up. a level of concern grew in her, picturing hanni as a poor, frost bitten kitten who needed help.
minji turned around and made her way outside at full speed.
the heavy crunches of the snow under minji’s feet as she stomped towards hanni caused her to sit up and turn around.
minji huffed at the sight of hanni, looking bitterly cold now as her arms were crossed tightly.
“hanni, what the hell are you doing?!”
hanni smiled childishly with pink spots on her cheeks, a smile minji found to be the loveliest in the world.
“um… enjoying the snow?”
minji had an annoyed look on her face.
“well, yeah. but ever thought of doing it with some extra layers on? you’re going to freeze yourself to death, hanni. you don’t want the members to wake up on the first day of snow and see you frozen over, do you?”
hanni was too amused with the silly, impossible idea of turning into an ice sculpture to even notice the worried look on minji’s face.
“come on, minji!” she brushed minji’s notions off, “i’m fine. a little cold won’t hurt me.”
minji was about to protest, until hanni brought out a small sneeze. she pointed at minji with her best straight face, wanting to speak up first after her “a little cold won’t hurt me” statement.
“shut up, kim minji.” she commanded, “that was nothing. i’m fine.”
minji, secretly smitten, rolled her eyes, not buying for a moment a single thing hanni said.
“alright, here we go.” minji said, pulling hanni up to stand on her feet as she whined.
“hey!”
“wear a jacket. it’s cold outside.” minji furrowed her eyebrows as she pleaded.
“but i really just want to stay a few minutes longer… then i’ll go back in… i promise.” hanni said, looking up at the taller girl, giving her the biggest puppy eyes she’d ever seen.
minji would’ve folded right then and there, but she shook her head. she took off her favorite jacket, that she would never just give to anyone. hanni’s “few minutes” would turn into an eternity, and minji knew it.
minji put the jacket around hanni. the latter sighed, knowing very well that minji and her jacket were famously inseparable. she was too flustered to say anything, so she hesitantly put her arms in the holes of the jacket and mumbled a “thank you.”
minji adored the way hanni looked wearing her jacket. adorable as hell, because it was so oversized on her.
hanni felt her heart beat faster when she noticed minji’s small black shirt, outlining her muscles. she suddenly looked down at her shoes, hoping her cheeks weren’t blushing anymore than they already were.
“you wanna join me for the last few minutes?” hanni asked teasingly, with a small smile on her face. how could minji say no to her?
minji nonchalantly huffed a “‘kay” and sat down with hanni on the ground. hanni shifted a little closer to her, leaning her head on minji’s shoulder.
while hanni’s eyes were focused on the snow fall, minji’s eyes were focused on hanni. minji moved her arm and wrapped it around hanni, making them get as close to each other as possible. minji smiled to herself, seeing how hanni’s cheeks grew even redder, but still trying to focus on the snow, avoiding eye contact with minji; who now was the one wishing to stay outside a little bit longer so she could stay cozy like this with the girl she cherishes.
maybe after, minji could treat hanni to a hot chocolate, because of course, it was cold and she without a doubt thinks it’s the only nice thing to do afterwards…!
