Chapter Text
"Next should be Isaac Higgintoot," a man with glasses stated quietly to the taller man seated next to him. He handed him a tan folder. The taller man took it, opened it, and saw a head shot of a man in his mid-thirties. He had strong features... but somehow they came across as delicate and gentle. His hazel eyes were expressive and kind, and his faint smile emphasized his soft lips and attractively-dimpled chin. The man read Isaac's brief acting resume.
"Last role was in 2018? Jeez, has he just not been auditioning for anything, or..?"
The doors to their right opened. In walked said Isaac Higgintoot. He was rather tall, and had a broad, strong-looking frame. Not exactly who the director had had in mind for the role of Jason, but there was something about Isaac's pleasant smile that matched his head shot, as he reached out to shake the men's hands, that caught his attention.
"Alright, Isaac, what scene will you be performing for us?"
"This is the cafe scene, where Jason meets Matt."
"Perfect. Whenever you're ready."
Isaac steadied himself. It had been years since he actually landed a role, and even then, his last role had been very small. It wasn't for lack of auditioning, either. It was never the right place, the right time, the right role... but that's just life as an actor, his agent had told him, time and time again. There will always be plenty of actors all wanting the same part... but there will also always be plenty of roles to be won. You gotta audition for a hundred parts before you even get one callback. And Isaac had done his fair share of auditioning over the years.
"Oh, excuse me," Isaac said, acting as though he was bumping into someone, and turned around. His eyes grew wide. "I... oh! I'm so sorry!"
"No worries," the director supplied the role of Matt. "I wasn't looking where I was going."
"No, I wasn't... can I buy you another drink? I just made you spill yours, and -"
"You don't have to do -"
"No, no, I have to. I can't believe I did that. Really, I insist. Please, let me get you another one."
"Oh, well... I guess I can't say no, can I? Are you new in town? I don't think I've seen you around. Not that I've been around much lately, myself."
Isaac blushed on cue, and lowered his head. "Yeah. I just landed a new job here, so..."
"Oh? What do you do?"
"I'm an attorney," Isaac stated quietly.
"An attorney with manners? Now I've seen everything!"
Isaac chuckled softly and smirked. "Not quite everything, I bet," he said coyly, and winked.
There was a pause, then... "Alright, thank you so much, Isaac, we'll be in touch."
"Thank you," Isaac smiled warmly, shaking the two men's hands again, and seeing himself back out of the room.
Once out of earshot, he let out a long, shaky sigh and closed his eyes for a moment. Another audition done, just in a matter of minutes. He'd practiced for so long... but how could he make himself a believable attorney, and a gay one at that!, in such a short moment? Oh well... on to the next audition, he supposed. But first, he'd call his agent... and maybe go get some Taco Bell to take his mind off of how badly that must have gone.
