Chapter 1: Mission
Chapter Text
Agent Mackerel was one of the best spies in the country. He was known for his fast work, for completing any given mission and his charm that makes any woman fall for him.
Rumours said that he was a cold-hearted person who could trick eveyone, no matter the status or situation. Some said that this man had no personal life because he isn't even able to feel basic emotions, which was close to the truth. In reality, the man didn't have time for anything other than missions, he did have emotions.
He travelled all around the country, never being in one place for more than a week. Well this was about to change
."WHAT!" Everyone in 5 meter range turned to the brunette that was currently on the phone.
The brunette in question was a tall, handsome man with brown hair and eyes and a pretty face. He was dressed into a suit, emerald color. Some would call him the definition of perfect. That was until they learned his occupation. Why? Because he was THE agent Mackerel, thankfully no one on the train knew this or he would be arrested on the spot.
The man lowered his voice to more of a normal voice so others on the train would stop looking at him like. "But Kunikida, why?!" The brunette said when he saw that no one was listening to his phone call anymore.
"Look, you can't back out from this mission just because you need to get a family for it. The mission is important. We NEED to get something on Dostoyevsky, anything. Do you understand?" The man from the other side of the phone call scolded the brunette.
"Butt, Kunikidaaaaaa, how can I get a child in less than a week that is smart enough to get into Eden Academy on top of that? Did you finally lose all of your brain cells?" The man pouted even though he knew that Kunikida couldn't see him through the phone.
"I know you. You will make it work. But just to be clear, the President assigned you this mission, and Ranpo agreed that you are the perfect one for it. Now listen. Your new name is Dazai Osamu. You are working as a psychologist. The train you're on is going directly to Yokohama, but it will still take some time to get there, so in the meantime, buy an apartment. This mission will take longer than any other. I also sent you the address of the nearest orphanage where you can find a kid. As I already told you before you started to protest about the mission, the kid you adopt must get into Eden Academy where the son of Dostoyevsky will start his 1st year there. Because of that, the child must be 6 years old. The rest is on you, good luck agent Mackerel." Soon after that, the call ended, and the brunette let out a deep sigh. This was going to be the most annoying mission that he ever had. He stared at the ceiling for a few minutes and then opened his laptop to start looking at apartments.
____________________
About an hour and a half later, he got to Yokohama. The luck was on his side for once, he got the two bedroom apartment when he was on the train with no problem.
He checked his e-mail to see if Kunikda had already sent him the address, and he did. There was nothing less to be expected from the man.
He looked at the address and started walking. It looked like the orphanage was one od the odlest ones in Yokohama. He knew that he would most likely have to go to a few different orphanages to find the kid he was looking for, but he can start at this one.
____________________
It took some time, but he finally got to the first orphanage and rang the doorbell or whatever that thing was it might as well be a button to destroy all humanity it's not like he cared.
As the door opened, it revealed a man most likely in his 40s with a serious expression on his face."Hello, you must be Dazai-San. Am I right?" The man asked with neutral tone.
"Yes, that is right. As you probably know, I'm here to adopt a child." Dazai answered, stepping inside and closing the door behind him.
"Well, I won't keep you waiting you already sent all the needed information trough email, let’s go take a look at the kids." The man said as he started to lead Dazai towards a certain room. "So, do you have any age or gender preferences." The man asked after a few moments of uncomfortable silence.
"If it's possible, I would like to have someone who is around 6 years old I don't care much abiut the gender." Dazai answered as he studied the man. He saw that the man was taller than him but not a lot, maybe around 184cm, he had unreadable expression on his face, so the brunette couldn't read his emotions. His body wasn't any help at it either. The man was good at hiding how he felt. Well he was the director of this orphanage, so it wasn't as surprising.
As soon as they entered a room that looked like it was for free time, Dazai's attention went to the kids, who looked at him with curious or hopeful expressions. The brunette decided to speak up remembering he forgot a tiny detail. "I forgot to mention that I would prefer someone on the smarter side."
"Well then come with me, I think this one would be perfect for you hr is one of the smarter kids here and he knows how to behave properly." The orphanage director said as he changed his path to go to a corner filled with books. There sitting on the floor in silence was a little boy with white hair. When he looked up from the book he was reading Dazai saw a shy expression on his face. The only problem was that he didn't look over 5 years old, and he needed someone over 6.
***
Atsushi saw the director of the orphanage, and a man approached him. He quickly closed the book he was reading. This could be his escape from this horrible place!
Well, that is what he thought until he heard the thoughts of the man
/The only problem is that he doesn't look over 5 years old, and I need someone over 6./.
Atushi got scared he knew the thought was about him and he really wanted to escape this place, so he tried to save the situation and makr the man believe he was 6 years old. "Hi sir! My name is Atsushi, and I'm 6 years old." He knew that the director knew that second part was a lie he was 4, and he hoped that the director won't call him out and just let him be adopted.
"I see. Nice to meet you. So what are you reading, this looks like a hard book to read?" The man asked him, not caring to introduce himself, yet.
"Uh, um, well, it's a book about Tigers. I like tigers." The white-haired boy answered a bit shyly, he hoped the man will like him.
"Hm, I like tigers too. Thry are interesting creatures. So, do you want to be adopted?" The man asked while thinking
/Maybe he is the right one. He seems smart enough to adopt for the mission./
Atsushi quietly cheered. He will most likely get adopted and escape this place. This horrible place with even worse memories. His dream will come true! He took a deep breath and answered. "Yes, sir, I want to! I want to have a family!"
"Well if you want to have a family, how about I adopt you." The Dazai man asked him, and as soon as words left his lips, Atsushi stood up and said or more like screamed,"Yes!!!".
"You can call me dad now, being called sir makes me feel old, you know." The brunette said in amused tone.
"Oh sorry sir- I mean dad!" Atsushi said exited to finally call someone that.
The brunette chuckled and looked at the director, who was quietly watching our interaction. I held my breath and when the director nodded it felt like fireworks exploded in my heart. "I'll send you the needed paperwork over email. You two can go."
His new dad nodded with a neutral expresion, took his hand, and started walking out. Atushi was hoping he could finally have a happy life and a family who loved him. Now the question was: Does he have a mother?
Chapter 2: New clothes
Notes:
Merry Christmas!🎄
So I decided to add omegaverse to this fic but it won't the main focus for quite some time, maybe there will be mentions of it here and there. Just so you know I wrote this chapter in the middle of the night, just putting this here as a warning.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
As soon as they enter the apartment, Atushi notices the lack of personal things that would indicate that someone lives here, but there were no signs that someone was living here, so he decides to ask. "Um, why does this place look like there isn't anyone living here, sir-um, I mean, dad?:
"Ah, well, you see, that is because I just moved in. That reminds me, we have to go get you some new clothes, don't we?" His new dad says, meanwhile he is thinking
/This kid almost got me. What is happening with me? If I' not careful, the kid might figure out I'm a spy./
Atushi froze at that. His new dad is a spy? Should he be scared? Well, anything is better than the orphanage, Atsushi thinks to himself, he can survive here and the man looks nice.
He takes a look around the apartment, this time more carefully. The apartment isn't half bad. It has a big couch and kitchen. There is a small hallway right next to the front door. Atsushi figured that it leads to bedrooms and a bathroom.
"So kiddo, let’s make you something to eat, and then we can get new clothes. I think I saw a shop down the road, so we don't have to go far." His dad spoke up from the whole other side of the apartment. When did he get there? Was Atsushi zoned out? Atsushi could only give a small nod as he watched the brunette move around the kitchen with ease like he lived there his whole life.
He decided it was the best if he sat down. This was his new home, after all.The thought about asking his dad the question that has been on his mind since they left the orphanage resurfaced "Um dad? Can I ask you something?" He mumbled, trying to avoid eye contact. As soon as Dazai gave him a nod, he spoke up again, "Do I have a mom?"
At those words, the brunette froze."Well, kiddo, you see, you don't have a mother at the moment, but you might get her soon," his dad eventually responded, thinking.
/This child better not ask stupid questions he might figure out who I am, if it happens I might have to send him back to the orphanage./
At which Atsushi froze in fear and stopped talking. He didn't understand what he did wrong, but being quiet may be the best option now.
After some time, the brunette put some food in front of him, saying, "Eat up."Atsushi decided to stay quiet and just said a quiet, "Thank you." Then he started to eat.
The food was something he had never tasted before, but he fell in love with it as soon as he tasted it. He tried not to eat too fast, but that was hard at the moment. They never got to eat something this good back at the orphanage, and this was just another reminder that he was out of that horrible place!
He finished the food in record time as let out a happy sigh, he turned to his new dad, who was watching him the whole time."This was the best meal ever!" Atsushi said with excitement. He wasn't lying. Food at the orphanage was bad enough for even a normal snack to taste like one of the best meals in the world.
Dazai smiled a bit and took the bowl from Atsushi's hands. "It was just something you can quickly prepare, nothing much, but I'm glad you like it, kid." He said as he put the dirty dishes in the sink, "We'll clean this later, okay? Let's get you some clothes. If you're up to it? If you want to get comfortable here first that is okay too."
Atsushi nodded and went to put on his shoes. Meanwhile, the brunette went to change from the suit to some more casual clothes. When he came back, he was wearing a white plain T-shirt, grey pants, and a black trench coat. As he got to the door, Atsushi was already waiting for him. "What took you so long?" The boy asked.
"I had to get changed, Atsushi. Now, are you ready to go?" The brunette answered as he started to unlock the door."Yes, I'm ready!" The boy exclaimed. Dazai held out his hand to Atsushi, which the boy happily grabbed, staying close to his new father's side.
____________
As the pair walked out of the building, they started to seek the shop that the brunette told Atsushi about, before. It took them around 5 minutes, but they finally found it. It was a small shop with various types of clothes.
As they entered, Atsushi couldn't believe that this was his life now. He had a family, and that was more than he ever asked for. So now he entered the shop beaming with excitement, holding his dad's hand tightly.
***
When Dazai saw how tightly the boy held his hand, he couldn't help the smile that started to bloom on his lips. He lightly pulled Atsushi to someone who seemed to work there. "Hello, could you tell me where the kids clothes are?" The brunette asked the person.
"Of course, sir, they are back there next to that section, over there. Do you need any help?" The person said as they pointed at the back of the store."Thank you. We are good, don't worry about us." The brunette responded, already walking in the direction, pulling Atsushi with him.
"Okay, kiddo, what kind of clothes do you want? You can pick out anything. Just look around and when you find something you like give it to me, I'll carry them around." Dazai said to the white-haired boy when they got to the kids section.
"Um, okay, I'll take a look." Atsushi said as he started to walk between clothes racks. Dazai started to follow after him, making sure that the kid didn't get lost. He saw Atsushi stop at a white T-shirt with tiger pattern all over it. The kid wasn't lying when he said he liked tigers, didn't he? Well, it wasn't even a bad shirt, and if Atsushi liked it...
"Want to try it on?" Dazai asked. The boy looked at him and gave him a shy nod. "Um, yeah, if that's okay."
"Kiddo, I told you, that you can pick anything you like. Just find one in right size and we're good." the brunette said, amused about kid's shyness.
Atsushi gave him a nod and started to look for the shirt in right size. After some looking, he finally found it and gave it to Dazai, who put it over his arm. "Do you want to find anything else? Maybe some pants?"
The boy gave him a nod and went to take a look at pants. He found some black ones with a little tiger drawn below left pocket. Seriously, this kid loved tigers.
They got to the dressing room soon after that, having around 5 shirts and 6 pants. Thankfully, most of the clothes fit him, and now he was trying on last pants meanwhile Dazai was waiting outside.
The brunette hoped that Atsushi had had enough of clothes for some time. Not that he can say anything about it. He literally only had two suits and one outfit for when he wasn't working, since he didn't take time off, but this might have to change...
Just as he was about to ask Atsushi what was taking so long, he saw a redhead walking into the store, in the corner of his eye. A really good looking redhead...
Notes:
Guess who the redhead is. 'Cause I think we all know who😌
Chapter 3: The amazing Assassin Slug
Notes:
Hehehehe Chuuya is finally hereeeeeeeee. And yes I gotta use the stupidest names if we have agent Mackerel then we need assassin Slug
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Nakahara Chuuya or also known as assassin Slug.
Rumours said he was one of the best assassins out there, always working under the protection of the night. Those who met him described him as a storm, fiery, feisty, unpredictable, brave, and overall someone to be afraid of.
Those rumours weren't wrong, but there was more to the mystery known as assassin Slug.
Those who knew him as Nakahara Chuuya would describe him as a friendly, fun to be around, helpful, and overall nice. But there was one detail only people who knew him as Nakahara Chuuya knew. The detail was the fact that he was something he never wanted to be, an omega.
Now, all people know about secondary genders' stereotypes. It's one of the first things they learn after they start school. The thing they don't learn is that not all will fit into those stereotypes. Chuuya is one of those people. He wasn't the one to fit into any of those which show omegas as weak and fragile. Blame it on his childhood or the fact that he is an assassin if you want. How does Chuuya feel about not fitting into those? No one knows.
Chuuya was currently at his day job at a small cafe when he got a message from Mori.
Boss🖕:[Finish early today. I have a job for you. I'm sending you the information in about five minutes. Be ready]
The redhead let out a sigh and looked at his co-workers. "Hey. I gotta finish this shift early. Can someone cover for me?"
One girl Chuuya rarely spoke to because of her inability to think about anyone other than herself came forward, "Oh, of course, Chuuya. That isn't a problem, but I need something in return. Come to the party on Saturday with your partner. How about that? It shouldn't be a problem, right?" She said with a smirk on her face. Fuck her. She knew exactly what she was doing. Chuuya knew he is quite suspicious, nit having a partner, but he didn't imagine his co-workers to pick up on it.
"I don't think -" the redhead started, trying yo make up an excuse on the spot, but the girl interrupted him "Oh stop with excuses. If you don't have anyone, you can take with you to the party, just admit it. Though it would be really suspicious if you didn't have anyone. I mean, you are already 28, and just last night, I heard that someone got arrested because it was suspicious that they didn't have a partner at 27. Aren't you even older than that, hm?" The girl looked way to smug and Chuuya just couldn't let her think she was right."Well, actually, I do have a partner, and we would be happy to attend this party of yours." The redhead said, which left the girl and everyone else in shock.
"Wait, so you are dating someone? Well, it sure is just some beta you got to pretend to be dating you." The girl said after she slowly recovered from her shocked state and everyone agreed at her words. Chuuya scolded himself mentally for what he did and what he was about to do, "We'll actually he isn't a beta. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go. Thank you for covering the rest of my shift." He went out as fast as he possibly could, avoiding all the questions. What did he just get himself in?
When he got out of the cafe, he checked his phone if Mori had already sent him information.
Boss🖕: [Your next target is ______ he is staying at the hotel next to that one shop you know the owner and who always fixes the holes in your clothes. He betrayed us recently so this is important. Good luck]
When he finished reading the message, he changed the direction he was walking in. The location of his target meant he won't get to eat anything until after he eliminates the target since there are no bakeries in the way he is heading to. Dammit.
__________
It took just another five minutes to get to the hotel. The harder part was entering in a way no one would notice, but something as simple as that isn't impossible for someone who has been an assassin for over a decade.
So, without much complications, he got inside and started to look for the room of his target. This part takes a bit longer because the hotel is HUGE.
Well, it turns out that his target chose one of the rooms on higher floors, how typical.
The whole floor was full of bodyguards, but that didn't stop Chuuya as he skilfully killed each and every single one of them. They didn't even fight back! Can you imagine? It also didn't escape him that some of the so-called bodyguards were barely out of their teenage years. But job is job. He will drown the scared faces of them out of his mind with a bottle of some cheap wine later.
He finally got to the door, behind which Ace probably waited for him. He kicked the door open, and what he saw was truly traumatic. You see he thought Ace knew that he was coming, but he didn't think of this!
Ace, getting out of the bathroom, only a fucking towel around his waist. "AGHHHH! GET OUT! HOW DID YOU GET PAST BODYGUARDS?" Ace screamed, and even if Chuuya wanted to get out, he had a job to finish. After Ace took a good look at him, he spoke up in way calmer manner "Hm, what beauty. Are you here to kill me?" He asked after he saw the knives in Chuuya's hands. "I don't think someone as small as you could kill someone like me. I mean, you're clearly an omega, aren't you, little one?" Ace seemed to gain his confidence after he figured out the redheads' secondary gender. A fool, Chuuya thought, cringing at the nickname.
"I am, yes. But that does not make me incapable of killing you." He said and attacked. Soon, Ace's body was on the floor, and as his blood slowly stained, the wooden floor, Chuuya, trew a blanket over him. Maybe he should start knocking. He definitely didn't want to see THIS again. Honestly, he is glad that killing him wasn't hard. He didn't want to spend his energy on someone who clearly believes everyone fit into stereotypes or someone SO stupid.
__________ After he got rid of the body, the redhead started cleaning up, washing the blades of his knives. Unfortunately for him
(or fortunately for you readers),
he ripped his pants, and since this was his only outfit for THIS type of work, he needs to get it fixed. The only upside of this is that the hotel is right next to the clothes shop he usually gets these things fixed, just like Mori told him. With a sigh, he changed to some clothes that weren't ripped and got out of the hotel.
__________
When he entered the shop, the first thing he saw was a head full of brown hair, seemingly waiting for someone, next to dressing room. "Ah, Nakahara-San. Did you rip something again?" The worker asked, and his attention shifted to them, with a nod."Yes, you know how it is." He smiled and when he took another glance at brunette he was already looking at him.

Chapter Text
When Dazai looked at the redhead for the second time, the redhead was already looking at him and, fuck, the world could be ending, and he was pretty sure he wouldn’t even care. The redhead was definitely not just Japanese. His hair was beautiful orange hair, it reminded him of autumn leaves. His eyes were this pretty blue color, but Dazai couldn’t decide which shade it was from this far away.
He needed to get closer. “Atsushi hurry up!”
He saw the redhead disappearing into the back with the employee that offered help to him and Atsushi earlier. Was he working there? Not that it mattered anyway, he just wants to find out the man’s name. Just as he wanted to call Atsushi again, the boy came out.
“Do the clothes fit you?” The man asked. Not like he cared about it even if he probably should, the only thought about the man he saw earlier. After all he could be the right person for this mission, judging just by the man’s looks, that is. He could be wrong about this ginger being an omega… but if he is, he would be just the prefect one to use in this annoying as hell, mission. If his record was clean of course.
“Yeah, they do.” The little boy answered, making man who’s lost in thoughts, jump. It was obvious he forgot about Atsushi and the clothes for a moment. “Um, yeah, okay good. Let’s go pay. What do you think, hm?” The man said and Atsushi nodded. He really has to get it together. He has a child now, damn it. Even if the said child was only for the mission, it wouldn’t be smart to get lost in thoughts so often.
They went over to the cash register which was set on a simple oak table and waited for someone to show up.
***
Chuuya went into the back of the store where Kouyou was already waiting for him. He thanked the employee as they closed the doors behind them.
“Hi lad, already ripped something, huh? It wasn’t even a whole month this time, who thought. Hand over the money.” She said, not even trying to hide the smug tone in her voice. Chuuya groaned and gave her the money. He really has to stop betting with her. She knows him way to well now.
Even if not blood related, Kouyou was always like a big sister to him. She had helped him to get his older brother back to his feet. She is only one who knows about his real occupation and isn’t part of PM. This small shop she owned was even the reason they met.
Chuuya needed to buy new clothes for himself and his brother before it got too cold.
Even though he was the younger one of the two, he was the responsible one. The reason? It’s simple. His older brother is a mess, he rarely leaves the house, drinks most of the time and just isn’t in good enough mental state to work. So Chuuya, fifteen at the time, took matters into his own hands. He got a job maybe not a legal one, but he got it. He became an assassin.
But hey, at least he could work underage so he can take care of his brother. Many would disagree if he told them he was the one to take care of his older brother and not the other way around. The fact that his brother is alpha, and he just recently presented as an omega doesn't help, it makes things worse, but it’s not like it’s his fault that society has shitty expectations and standards about secondary genders.
Well since he still didn’t get his first pay, he had to find the cheapest clothing store around here and he had some luck this time.
He walked into a small shop that was clearly new and so the price wasn’t high. When he walked in the first thing he saw as an older woman, her hair styled perfectly, she moved with practiced elegance, she carried herself in a way that even the air around her seemed to scream of confidence and elegance.
Yeah, she was definitely the owner. As the woman knew someone was looking at her, she turned around with a stern expression, but when she noticed him her expression softened. It looked like she had a soft spot for kids.
“Hello kiddo. Are your parents with you?” As soon as the question left her mouth Chuuya froze for a moment before answering
“Um, no. I’m alone.”
The woman’s expression changed from soft to confusion and then understanding.
“Ah, they are- “ “Yeah…” Chuuya mumbled, cutting her of. He knew it wasn’t hard to figure out that his parents are death. Who would leave their child go shopping for clothes alone, a child who is clearly an omega on top of that? No, no parents would do that especially in these times, when children were going missing on almost daily basis. So yeah, that was easy to figure out.
“Do you have an older sibling to take care of you then, maybe they came?” The woman asked, concerned. Chuuya didn't blame her, he would be concerned in her position too.
“I have an older brother, but well he isn’t… Plus I can take care of myself.” Chuuya cut himself of before he could tell anything more about his personal life. Why was he talking about this with a stranger, anyway!? The woman decided not to press on him more and instead introduced herself “Hm, well you can call me Kouyou. Now tell me lad, why are you here?”
“Well, I need some clothes for me and my brother, but I don’t have a lot of money. This was cheapest store around.” He explained as briefly as he could.
Kouyou nodded at explanation and signaled him to follow her. “Choose whatever you need, it’s free for you.”
“I- huh!? I can pay!” Chuuya said, not wanting to cause any trouble by not paying.
“Too bad. You will not pay. I want to help you, and I will. Nothing can change my mind right now. Are you coming or not?” The woman looked at him over her shoulder, with the most truthful expresion he has seen in month. It was clear she wasn't giving up.
He thought about it for a moment. He knew that the woman meant it when she said nothing can change her mind, he recognized another stubborn person when he saw one. Would it be that bad if he didn’t pay this time and let someone help him? With an answer in his head, he went over to Kouyou.
___________
After some time and Kouyou’s help he got everything he needed and was just about to walk out of the store when she called after him. “And lad, come around again or I’ll have to find you myself!” Chuuya allowed himself to smile as he left.
Present
“Earth to Chuuya.” Chuuya almost jumped when Kouyou’s voice got to him before he could lose himself in another memory.
“Uh yes sorry. What did you say?”
“I said that someone is waiting to pay and since my assistant already clocked out for today I asked if you’ll wait here or go with me.” Kouyou said, having to hold back an eye roll.
“Sure, I don’t mind.” Chuuya responded. Then he realized who was most likely waiting to pay and cursed mentally. It is not like he could take his words back. Kouyou would kill him. He was already on thin line with her this week. As he followed her to the table he prepared himself to see the brunette again. This time eye to eye.
Notes:
Sooo tell me what do do you think of this chapter. I don't know if it just has holes in it since I know erything about their backstories and all that. Also who is Chuuya's brother? Guessing time! Too be honest it is quite easy to guess tho...
Chapter 5: A start
Notes:
missed me? Well here is another chapter. It's longer than others because well skk are finally interacting and already being totally in love heh. Sometimes I think about this fic and go "I can't wait for next chapter" and then remember I am the one writing this.

Chapter Text
Dazai and Atsushi were waiting to pay, well Dazai was trying to get another glimpse of the redhead, but anyway….
It took longer than expected for anyone to show up and he was pretty sure one and probably only employee just finished their shift, so he didn’t know if anyone is going to show up at this point.
Luckily for them a woman showed up, with the short man trailing behind her. And damn the ginger was even more beautiful up close, he had this expression on his face that told anyone who got even a bit too close to fuck off.
He then looked at the woman. Unlike the man, this taller redhead radiated with elegance and in general gave off more calming and commanding presence.
Even though the two redheads could be mistaken for sibling Dazai knew they weren’t. All those years as a spy made him able to read body language really well.
Siblings would stand way closer to each other than these two, that was because most siblings grew up with and trusted each other. Even if there were exceptions to that, like siblings not connecting or just not liking each other, that didn’t seem to be a case with those two, since it was obvious that they were obviously close to each other.
The next assumption people would have, is that they’re lovers. That was also false. Even if they’re an alpha and omega it doesn’t mean they’re dating. Alphas and omegas can be friends too, it was the shitty stereotypes that said that people with two different secondary genders can’t be friends. He was good friends with Ranpo, who was an omega. So that was off the list too.
To be honest there could be a lot of assumptions could be made about this pair but most of them would probably be wrong.
From what Dazai saw, the two were close. They walked close together, not too close to be siblings or dating, but close enough that it was safe to assume they had trust in each other and saw each other as family. Chosen family.
It was more often than some would think. Chosen families weren’t connected by blood but by the deep connections or same types of experiences. They could be childhood friends or met each other once and decided they will stay by each other’s sides. He could see that the redheads in front of him shared a deep connection.
What got him out of thoughts was the woman’s voice.
***
Fuck. This was a bad choice. A Really bad choice. A bad fucking choice.
The moment Chuuya’s eyes met the brunette’s, it seemed like everything around them disappeared. Up close his hair looked even fluffier than it did from the door and those eyes. God. Chuuya felt like he could melt in them. Even he couldn’t deny that the man was handsome and probably an alpha on top of that.
Don’t get this wrong. Chuuya never showed any interest in dating. His job never allowed him to go on dates. His second job that is. He almost always works in the shadow of the night, so he doesn’t have time for dates. And don’t even think about dates throughout the day. His other job takes that time away from him too. Because of that he was more focused on work. Not that he minded though.
But he would be lying if he said he had never thought of dating someone, after all, he never got the chance to experience even a crush. That was what he got for starting to work in his teenage years. And sure, a lot of people had showed interest in him, but he almost never found anyone attractive.
Yes, he is twenty-eight. He should already have a partner by now, probably even some kids. BUT. Fuck that. Fuck the shitty standards society has. Is he on list of possible assassins or spies? Probably. Is that bad? Definitely. Does he care? Fuck no. It is his life, and no amount of judging looks he receives when he tells people he is still single will change his mind.
He isn’t looking for a relationship even though it would probably be smart, so that the government wouldn’t suspect him. It isn’t his problem that he has standards and won’t just date the first person that shows interest just because he is twenty-eight already! Plus, what can he even do about jobs taking most of his time?!
But even with having NO experience with dating, he certainly knows how to use his omega status to get what he wants. A little flirting here, a small compliment there and it’s done. It’s too easy honestly. It helps him in missions, people expect him to be weak and that gives him a big advantage. Sometimes he even uses it to get a free drink.
Just as his thoughts were about to wander off to something completely different Kouyou spoke up and he realized they finally stopped.
“Welcome sir. You are new here, aren’t you? I haven’t seen you before.”
Oh no. Kouyou must have noticed his interest in the man, she usually never makes small talk with customers or starts asking questions right after greeting. If he is honest, he should’ve expected it, after all she wanted him to start looking for someone to settle down with for a few years now. She thankfully never forced him to any of it, but now that an opportunity showed itself, she won’t be the one to miss it. He can only hope she won’t embarrass him.
“…Yes, yes, we are. We just moved in, and Atsushi here, needed some more clothes since we left most of things behind.” The man answered with a chuckle, clearly been caught off guard by the attempt at small talk.
Just then Chuuya noticed the kid at his side. The mentioned kid was hiding behind the brunette’s leg. Did that mean the man was married? Or maybe just in relationship? Fuck what if he is mated already?!
Kouyou, who had similar questions and knew he was overthinking again, it became a small habit of his in last few years, just smiled and continued with the small talk.
“Oh, and where is his mother if you don’t mind me asking? Is she unpacking?”
Chuuya took a deep breath and waited for the man to answer.
***
When the woman suddenly started asking questions Dazai had to admit he was caught off guard but quickly recovered and started answering them. What he didn’t expect is him having to think of some reasonable answer for where Atsushi’s mother was. The woman looked like she won’t be fooled easily and neither did the shorter redhead, who was currently glaring at the woman. Just like siblings.
“Uh, well his mother died a few years back and I decided it was time for a fresh start so that is why we are here.”
The woman seemed convinced and got this light in her eyes, something like determination. She definitely wasn’t done with this.
“Oh really, I’m sorry for your loss. Does that mean you’re back on dating scene?”
Okay now she just didn’t sound like she was sorry and was clearly wanting to set him up with the ginger next to her. Which just confirmed he was most likely an omega. Now if he just played his cards correctly, he could get the man’s help with the mission without the man knowing.
“You are correct. I am. Atsushi deserves two parents not just one and I believe it’s time to try again.”
“Oh really? Well, I’m sure this little guy is happy to have such a considering father. May I ask for your name, then?”
“Oh, of course. It’s Dazai Osamu. And what about you?” He knew he was going in the right way by the small smile on woman’s lips.
“My name is Kouyou Ozaki, and his name is Nakahara Chuuya”
“What lovely names uh….” He didn’t know what to call them, did he?
“Oh, just call me Kouyou”
“Call me Chuuya, I don’t like formalities.” The ginger finally spoke up for the first time since the start of this conversation, and Dazai was pleasantly surprised. His voice didn’t sound gentle or delicate like some omega’s voices he met before did. Well, Chuuya was still a male, after all. He hadn’t met any male omegas except for Ranpo and not all were the same of course.
On the other hand, now that he knew the man’s name, he started trying to remember back to when he was on the train and looking at the files Kunikida sent him about all possible omegas he could use in his mission. It took him a few seconds before he remembered seeing his file and it was one of those who stood out.
His name was Nakahara Chuuya, he had an older brother, and he worked at café. He started working as soon as he turned eighteen to take care of his brother. He clearly wasn’t the one who fit into stereotypes, it reminded him of Ranpo in some way. He was clean of any past crime activity. It looked like the man was perfect for the mission.
After a few seconds he smiled
“Okay Chuuya and Kouyou then,”
“So do tell me how old you are, lad.” The woman casually said as if she wasn’t that interested in that, even if she clearly was.
“Well, I am turning twenty-nine in a month or so. What about you?”
The taller redhead fully ignored the question and looked at a shorter redhead, smirked and spoke up again while Chuuya was glaring at her.
“Really? Chuuya here is twenty-eight and single too. Maybe you two should consider talking to each other. Since the government is arresting more and more older single people these days because of suspicion it might just help both of you, you know.”
Oh, she knows what’s she doing and neither him nor the omega actually looked like they were against it.
***
Atsushi was just watching this weird adult interaction, but if he did understand one thing is that the man named Chuuya could become his other parent. That was clear by his dad’s thoughts. He still won’t have a mother but at least he’ll have another parent. Not that it mattered to him if he had a mother or two dads. He just wanted to have a family.
What caught his attention is what the man was thinking
/As much as I don’t agree with how straight forward, she is, I must say it’s working. And if this Dazai agrees too, I could make this work and maybe even show up on that stupid party on Saturday without embarrassing myself. /
And what his new dad was thinking
/This could work. This Chuuya isn’t declining, and he doesn’t have any past criminal activity. /
Of course, now that he was sure that he could get another parent, the white-haired boy wanted to help with it. The best way would it be making them be alone and so for the first time Atsushi stopped hiding behind his dad’s leg and went over to the woman.
“Hi, umm… could you show me around I really like the store!”
The woman was surprised to hear him speak but quickly caught up to what was he trying to do. She just sent a smirk towards Chuuya and offered a hand to him.
He took a last look at his dad, who didn’t seem bothered by it, so he happily accepted the hand. And they went leaving his dad and hopefully his soon-to-be new parent alone.

“…”
WELL, this was awkward.
As soon as Atsushi and Kouyou left the room they fell into an awkward silence. He and Chuuya just stared at each other. Now, he was in a lot of awkward, similar situations before, but never once it was like this.
Usually when he was in a room with someone that was clearly attracted to intrigued by him (Chuuya even confirmed it in some way), he was pretty serious and collected, making conversation without a problem. Never once was he in a room with someone he actually found attractive useful. It was definitely a new feeling for him.
Believe it or not Dazai Osamu in all of his almost twenty-nine years of life, he never cared for anyone or anything. He became an orphan when his mother left him on street at only five years old. He learned to survive there, seeing the world in it’s true colours, he became suicidal. Yes he did now fuck off. No one tried to help even if he begged but when he first attempted to commit at fourteen someone helped him, brought him to hospital and that is where he met Mori, who made it his life mission to make Dazai want to live. He never succeeded and when he became boss of PM, he actually made it worse for Dazai. At fourteen he started to work there too, where the training… Well, he won’t think about that. At eighteen he left PM and at twenty he joined ADA where he worked as spy and stopped going by his old name.
So, no. He had never loved anyone. He does care for his current co-workers but not in the way you would care for your family or partner. In his point of view, he never cared for someone like others have. It was one of the things him and his co-workers were different in. To be fair it’s not like any of his co-workers experienced family type of…anything, most of them being orphans. But most of them do have partners. Ranpo has Poe, Tanzaki and Naomi…well let’s not talk about that, Yosano does have a girlfriend she just doesn’t want anyone to meet her, which is fair, they can be really, only a bit weird and are almost every day sometimes, hell even Kenji and Kyouka clearly have crushes on each other.
So yeah, he was lonely, and that didn’t bother him, until now.
The silence lasted only for a few seconds before Dazai decided to say something (and so did Chuuya)
“So..”
“So…”
They stared at each other. Again.
“I…”
“I..”
And it happened again!
“Stop..”
“Stop…”
Okay, now they were both just annoyed.
Chuuya gave him a hand signal to speak first, “What I was trying to say. Sorry for her” he pointed the way Kouyou and Atsushi went “She really wants me to find somebody.”
Dazai smirked when he heard that. It was time to put his flirting skills to use. He could get it his way with it right? Right? “Ah, don’t worry. I am actually quite flattered for her to consider me as an option for such pretty person. She seems like a type with high expectations.”
“Hah, don’t be. She is just desperate now; she would approve anyone.” The omega hasn’t even acknowledged Dazai’s flirting and instead just insulted him. Too bad for him, two could play this game.
“So, you’ve been single for so long, she is just desperate. I see why. Why would anyone fall for someone as short as chihuahua. Chuuyauahua!”
Okay now he was definitely angry. Like a cute annoying chihuahua.
“OI, bastard I’m not a dog!”
“Awww look you even angry like one.”
Chuuya looked like he was about to explode but took a deep breath to calm down, much to Dazai’s disappointment, the man certainly was something and Dazai remembered why he was even talking to the redhead in the first place.
“Okay but now let me talk for a moment, please.” He said before Chuuya could do anything else. Chuuya let out an annoyed sound but nodded anyway, probably only because he said please, the, man seemed like the type to respect polite people. Boringggggg.
“Well, you see I need a partner…” Dazai started slowly and while Chuuya did raise an eyebrow he kept quiet like he said he would. “…why I need one it’s complicated. Yes, some part is it because I been lonely don’t make speculations but mostly it’s for Atsushi like I said before. The part I left out is that I been trying to get him into Eden Academy and for that he needs two parents.” Dazai finished, waiting for Chuuya’s reaction.
***
Well, this was sudden.
They went from awkward silence to some kind of bickering and then directly to Dazai kind of asking him to… Wait what was he even asking him to do?! Was he even asking him to do anything?!
He was trying to process everything that happened when Dazai spoke up again, realizing that Chuuya was a bit confused.
“What I’m trying to say is that I need someone who can at least pretend to be my partner even if just for the interview and maybe you could do it.”
Okay, now he got it and for someone who hated doing favours for strangers he was oddly interested in this. Plus, he could demand something back and he knew exactly what, so he slowly nodded and started speaking. “Okay, I could do that, but I need something in return.” Chuuya stopped for a moment to see if Dazai will say anything, but the man stayed quiet and the redhead continued, thinking it would be better if Daza knew the whole story, “That something is similar to yours. One of my co-workers helped me today when I had to leave early and so we are equal I have to attend some party she hosts this Saturday, I think. Or is it Sunday, donno. But the point in all of this is that my co-workers find me suspicious because I don’t have a partner yet… “…so you said you have one? And now you need someone to act as your partner on that party?” Dazai finished.
Chuuya was pleasantly surprised. The man was smart judging by the way he figured out what he needed him to do, a surprise indeed. “Uh, yeah, you’re right. So, what do you say? You pretend for me, and I pretend for you.” He said after a moment.
Dazai nodded and extended his hand “Deal?”
“Deal.”
___________
After Kouyou and Atsushi came back (which definitely took longer than it usually would), Dazai and the kid left.
Chuuya ended up exchanging phone numbers with the man, so that he could send him the details about the party later. For now, he was stuck with Kouyou who insisted on him staying a bit longer.
“So, lad, tell me what did you two talk about.” Kouyou said while counting money she got today.
“We made a deal.” Chuuya told her. He was determined not to tell her everything this time, she usually gets more things out of him than he would like to admit.
Well, Kouyou wasn’t giving up. “What kind of deal?” “Nothing special.” Chuuya said while trrying to look anywhere else BUT her. Kouyou wasn’t having it this time, “Oh, but I would still like to know. After all you are like family to me, Chuuya.”
And well… Chuuya gave up, even if way too quickly. The woman won’t give up, that much was easy to figure out after all the years they knew each other. Whenever she got on his nerves, he called her old, because of it. It’s not like he is super young as well, but he is younger than her. He was 28 and she was 32. The most annoying thing about that was the fact that she wanted him to find someone when herself was still at dating stage and not mated yet, which by society standards was wrong. One thing they were similar in, is that none of them believed in the mentioned standards.
Kouyou waited for an answer with a smirk on her face, tilting her head so that a bit of her neck was visible, she knew she won…wait if she wasn’t mated yet why did she have the mark then.
“You are looking at this?” she asked when she noticed his stare, “Well how about you tell me about that deal and I tell you about this, hm?” oh she knew what she was doing and was pretty damn good at it. Chuuya had given up before she even suggested this, so it was just a plus now and she knew it.
“Okay. The deal was that we pretend we are dating. So, before you ask, no he didn’t ask me out.” He said and Kouyou looked disappointed at hearing this, but Chuuya didn’t let her speak, “Your turn. Is that a mating mark? If it is why didn’t you tell me? And since when?”
Kouyou didn’t even flinch as the questions started to flood in. It happened many times before in all the years they knew each other.
“Slow down lad.” She said and after Chuuya quieted down she continued “Yes, it is a mating mark. The reason I didn’t tell you is simple…” she waited for a few seconds and then, “it’s because you would go full on protective mode, and you know it. Since when…well I believe it’s been around a month now.”
After a few moments Chuuya nodded and then smirked, “Okay then when do I get to meet her.” He will definitely embarrass her when it happens.
Kouyou just shook her head.
______
Saturday is here before he even knows it. Kouyou has thankfully repaired his suit, so he actually had something to wear, and he swears she changed something about it, but he couldn’t pinpoint what.
Right now, he is waiting in front of his co-worker’s house, where the party will be. He did text Dazai location and time they meet, and he has been waiting for half a fucking hour already!
He checks his phone again to see if that stupid bandaged bastard has texted him anything yet. Nope, nothing last thing he texted was:
Today, 8.43am
Pain in the ass: Heyyy Chuuuuuuu. Still the same time and place today? Or did you find someone better than me? ( ᵕ — ᴗ —)
To which Chuuya respon9ded with:
You: 👍. Sadly.
And that was the last time Chuuya heard from him.
He looked at time again. 7.40pm. If that bastard won’t show up in next 20 minutes Chuuya will go inside alone, and it doesn't matter that he will receive weird looks from his co-workers for not showing up with his supposed partner like he promised.
So, he waited and waited. But Dazai didn’t show up, and as soon as that stupid clock turned 8, he went inside. He was an hour late already and he did not plan to waste any more time, just like he said to well…himself, before.
When he entered the house, he was pretty shocked. The furniture looked expensive and there was some music playing in the background. The most heard thing was chatter of people. Who thought that someone who was working at a fucking café was hosting these kinds of parties. Maybe she also had some side work like him. Maybe.
As he entered no one noticed him at first. Of course they didn’t. It’s not like he cared for his work at café, he was only working there so that he wouldn’t be suspicious. That meaning he never tried to build friendships with his co-workers. He was definitely closer with people in PM, not all of course there were to many for that.
Well after a few minutes of awkwardly standing there the co-worker that covered his shift and invited him here noticed him.
Wait. Well, fuck. What was her name again? The redhead had no idea but maybe he could talk with her, without knowing it.
Before he knew she was in front of him with a, oh so forced smile on her face, “Well hello Chuuya. I didn’t think you would show up with how late you are. Did something happen?”
Chuuya would love to punch her in the face with the tone she used, it just irritated him for some reason, “Hi, yes, I came. Sorry I’m so late but I was waiting for someone.”
She smirked at mention of someone, she clearly realised that the supposed partner was nowhere to be seen, “Oh? Was it your mysterious partner you were talking about? The one who was supposed to be here with you?" Her tone turned into more of annoying and smug one when she saw that the redhead’s partner wasn’t here.
Now he remembered her name. Yuan. Well, he pulled one of the fakest smiles ever “Oh, he couldn’t come. Work got in the way.” He lied.
“Then his work must be important, right? What does he do?” Yuan asked with fake interest and in this moment Chuuya thought he was fucked. He didn’t know what Dazai’s job was, and he also couldn’t just make something up. The woman has connections and could easily figure out he was lying if she put some effort into it.
Thankfully luck was on his side today because as soon as he stayed silent for too long, door opened and Dazai was standing there in all his out of breath glory. No, seriously the man looked like he had just ran a fucking marathon. Still, he looked handsome even like that. He was wearing an emerald-coloured suit and some of his hair was held out of his face and behind his left ear by a bobby pin. Yes, he attracted some attention if it wasn’t from his dramatic entrance, it was from his looks, a big difference to Chuuya, who no one noticed.
After a few moments of silence, Dazai finally started breathing normally again and looked up. His brown eyes found Chuuya and he put on a smile like nothing had happened. Meanwhile Chuuya’s expression turned into one of annoyance.
Another few moments passed, and you could almost hear the silence until someone asked, “Who are you?!” and to that Dazai answered shocking even Chuuya because that was not what they decided on
“I’m Dazai Osamu, Chuuya’s husband.”
***
Nothing ever went by plans if Dazai was involved. He learned that quickly, luck wasn’t on his side. If anything, it was on the other side of the world for him. And well, this time was no different.
He was getting ready for that stupid party after making sure that Atsushi will be fine alone when he heard a knock on his door. He went to open the door which turned out to be an awful idea because he was hit with Kunikida and his stern expression, some documents in his hands.
Dazai did complain after he found out they had a mission to do last minute, but well…let’s just say Kunikda wasn’t in the best mood.
That is how he found himself driving a car, desperately trying to escape their enemies. To make the matters worse Kunikida was screaming at him from passenger seat about his ‘terrible driving skills, which isn’t true, he is an amazing driver (read: horrible). Not to mention he was late for the party, so if he didn’t die from the enemies shooting him Chuuya will kill him. He already got a grasp at his personality, and he was sure the man wouldn’t care about law when he figures out Dazai won’t show up. Chuuya killing him would be painful the redhead would make sure of that and now Dazai’s mission was to get there before party ended.
He barely dogged another bomb they threw at him and Kunikda, the second man now finally quiet. And well, so it went on until they managed to escape them into some old alley.
“Hey, Kunikida I need to go. You can do the rest right?” Dazai said, already running towards the exit of the ally, once he made sure that air was clear, and enemies didn’t find him.
“HEY, BASTARD COME BACK HERE, YOU WASTE OF BANDAGES!” Kunikida screamed behind him, but Dazai chose to ignore it.
___________
Okay, he wasn’t made for running. This was exhausting. How could people do this for fun!! Dazai will never understand it.
Now, after whole half an hour of running he was finally standing in front of the house the party was held at. Chuuya was nowhere in sight, but that was reasonable, he was late more than hour already. He was sure that the short ginger would never wait for him this long.
He took a deep breath and entered. Sadly, he was still out of breath, so he stopped at the open door to actually start breathing normally again. He wasn’t going to die from running! It would be stupid and not way he would like to die.
After a few moments he looked up and saw that a whole lot of people were looking at him. He didn’t even realise how dramatic this must have looked, and he was all here for it. They probably thought that he was running for his life and well he kinda was.
When his eyes found Chuuya’s he knew he escaped death. This time.
He heard someone from the crowd ask who he was and so his brain automatically responded “I’m Dazai Osamu, Chuuya’s husband. Nice to meet you all.”
He quickly realised his mistake by the look Chuuya gave him. Well, maybe he was getting killed today, after all. He mixed things up and now everyone thought that Chuuya was his husband. Great, just great.
Before he could take the words back the attention went from him to Chuuya. Who got flooded with questions pretty quickly.
“Husband!?”
“Chuuya! Why didn’t you tell us?!”
“I thought you said partner not husband!”
Were some of the common questions and well Chuuya…
“Calm down everyone.” He tried to ease the wave of questions, but it didn’t work, his words got lost between the questions. The look on his face told Dazai he didn’t have the patience today.
He was right.
“CAN EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP.” Well at least this worked, everyone was now looking at Chuuya, quietly. So, the redhead continued, “Yes, Dazai isn’t lying. I just never told yall because I didn’t see the need to. I ain’t even close to any of you.”
While Chuuya was making things up on spot and trying to calm people down. Dazai quietly moved to his side and enjoyed the chaos.
After Chuuya’s surprisingly believable explanation most calmed down, but the girl, who Dazai believed was named Yuan by Chuuya’s description, was looking at them with this weird look in her eyes. Oh, ohhh.
***
After Chuuya kind of calmed the curiosity of others he noticed that Dazai came over to him. That bastard was enjoying the chaos! That HE caused!
The redhead was just about to have a nice, calm, quiet conversation about why the man was late, when he noticed Dazai looking somewhere, or at someone.
Yuan was standing there with a look in her eyes that just called for trouble. And well, he was right.
Yuan plastered a smile on her face and said, “Well, nice to meet you uh…Dazai-san.”
Dazai gave a nod in greeting, but really didn’t do much after that.
_____________
The duo somehow survived trough the whole thing, with Dazai doing most of the lying. Why? Simply because Chuuya had to admit that Dazai was better than him at it and the redhead was planning how to murder ask him why he was late once the party ended. Yuan surprisingly didn’t do anything but he should be careful from now on.
Of course they were one of the first ones to leave, both agreeing that the party felt suffocating and well as soon as they got out of there…
“Okay, explain.” Chuuya turned to Dazai with a glare. He wasn’t letting that bastard think he was safe.
“Explain what Chuuya? If you’re wondering, why was I late it was because I had an urgent matter at work.” The brunette blinked, a smirk forming on his face.
Wait, Dazai actually told him…Was he getting ready to force the information out of Dazai the whole evening for nothing! Stupid.
“HAH. Why are you telling me this so easily?!”
“Well, why would I hide something so simple, shortie.”
OH he did just not-
“WHO ARE YOU CALLING SHORT YOU SOCIAL MISFIT” If there is one thing Chuuya won’t allow, is someone insulting his height. Especially if that someone is a man wrapped in bandages, who told his co-workers that they were married. Wait. He could be mad about that.
Instantly Chuuya calmed down now that he could hate the brunette for something else. “Okay enough. I don’t have the energy tonight. Now explain to me why you said to ALL my co-workers that you are my husband. We aren’t married.”
Dazai looked at him and let out a dramatic sigh, “Well you see I forgot. Plus, it’s not like we are dating, that would be a lie too. And hey, Atsushi needs another parent so it will be more believable if we are married.”
Chuuya had to suppress an eye roll. “That’s the whole point we aren-“
“Then let’s get married. Let’s just sign the papers and it’s done.”
Chuuya stared at Dazai. Did he just say…fuck he did say it. And it wasn’t the worst idea, but things were evolving WAY too fast. “Slow the fuck down.”
Notes:
I don't hate Yuan just so you know but I didn't have energy to create an OC and I have plans for her.
On other hand I told myself I'll do one or two updates every month and then I disappeared for a month so ups. Updates will come when they come.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this so comments are appreciated.

Chapter Text
“CHUUYAAAAAAAAAAAA. I NEED HELPPPPP.”
______
Next few days were full of Dazai trying to convince him to actually get married. His stance was that they weren’t getting mated, only married. Not a good one if you ask Chuuya. Today was no different.
He and Dazai met up for coffee because of two things
One: Chuuya was bored on his break.
And two: Dazai was spamming him since the morning to meet up.
At first Chuuya was against it, but he needed something to distract him from the fact that he’ll be meeting Kouyou’s mate in a week and that his brother is back to visit with his mate soon.
Seriously what’s with everyone he knows getting mated, it’s like everyone who was still single or in a relationship last month decided to get mated just so Chuuya would think about the fact that he is twenty-eight and in a fucking fake relationship with an annoying handsome bastard. Not to mention that said bastard had a 6 year old kid, who looked like he was four.
How did he get himself into this mess?
The redhead didn’t have an answer to that, but he had a feeling he would regret this.
“Hey Chuu! Over here!” the man screamed from other side of café as Chuuya entered it. The café was a small one he saw a lot of times before, just never paid attention to it. All he knew about it was that it was below some detective agency and that the owner was an older beta, he talked to before when he came to Kouyou’s shop.
If he was being honest, he knew a lot of people with him working two jobs, one of them at a café, then helping Kouyou around with her shop and generally being someone, people loved to make small talk with for an unknown reason. So yeah, a lot of socializing meant knowing a lot of people. (Quick note: couldn’t be me)
“Oi bastard, don’t scream.” Chuuya said as he sat down opposite from the man.
“But I’m afraid Chuuya won’t hear me from down there.” Dazai smirked and took a sip of coffee, “Oh I already ordered you some tea.”
“How did you know I like tea?”
“Simple, at that party you skipped every possible drink and kept looking between wine and tea. Even though you picked wine at the end it was quite obvious that you like tea.” The man shrugged and Chuuya was once again surprised that he noticed something like that and just hummed in response.
He stared at the tea for a few more moments until he gave in and took a sip. The tea was still hot, but it didn’t it thankfully didn’t burn his tongue. “Nice try, but for next time; I prefer green over white tea.”
“We’ll see about next time Chuu.”, he said in that annoying tone Chuuya has come to recognise.
__________
They spent the next hour or so bickering like little children until Chuuya got bored of it. He knew that Dazai asked for them to meet for another reason and he was getting impatient, “Okay idiot, just tell me why we are here.”
Dazai paused when Chuuya interrupted his little complaining session about how he had to get up in middle of night because Atsushi had a nightmare and instead sighed. “Okay fine. Look I wanted us to meet up because of well… that thing.”
The redhead knew exactly what Dazai meant with that. The fake marriage thing.
And well, Chuuya would be lying if he said that he didn’t think it trough. Hell, he even asked Mori on his thoughts on all of this, of course he didn’t tell all of it but just what Mori needed to understand.
The response boss gave him wasn’t what he expected. While Mori never believed in things like marriage or bonding, he did think that Chuuya accepting this would be beneficial since it would be less likely for government to think he is suspicious and with that prevent him from getting arrested.
After that Chuuya has finally decided.
“Fine, I agree with the whole thing, but I have some conditions.” Dazai looked at him with suspicious expression but let him speak, “One: Atsushi is your child therefore your responsibility, I can help but I won’t be taking full care of him. Do not expect that you’ll be free from that.”
“Fair I guess, he is my child just like you said. What are the other conditions?”
“Two: My brother will sooner or later find out about this and when he does you will help me convince him that you do not need to be killed.”
“Since when you have a brother?”
“Since always dumbass. He is a few years older than me and can get a little overprotective at times”
“Huh, fine, I guess I can survive a little overprotectiveness.”
“…”
“A lot of overprotectiveness?”
Chuuya nodded. It was the closest thing to it. He and his brother might not be related by blood, but if that did anything, it only made his brother even more overprotective over the redhead. Dazai will see it for himself once that happens.
“Okay, my last condition is don’t question if I come home late or if I go somewhere in middle of the night. It’s none of your business and I’ll come back, I just have some things to take care of.”
“As long as it isn’t something illegal, fine. You are your own person, and it will be only a pretend marriage. I don’t plan putting any restrictions on you.” The man shrugged without digging deeper.
Was he used to this?
Chuuya didn’t plan on finding out. After all, just like the brunet said; this was just a pretend marriage, to benefit them both. Atsushi was a cute kid, so he didn’t practically care about what the man did.
He was an assassin! So, as long as Dazai wasn’t a spy he was good to go.
They ended up spending the rest of Chuuya’s quite long break in silence until he had to go back to café for another few hours. What he didn’t expect is the man calling him at around 9 o’clock screaming in his ear.
“CHUUYAAAAAAAAAAAA. I NEED HELPPPPP! Some men are chasing me because I told them that they’re stupid!”
….Chuuya wasn’t in the mood for this.
Notes:
YAY, another 1k words later, I will tell that I was lying. I have no idea what I'm doing. Not with my life, not with this because it's seasonal depression time, heh. Everything is just all over the place. So yeah, feedback is appriciated.
Chapter 8: Why chess?
Notes:
Why chess? Well I am letting out my frustration.
Play chess they said! It will be fun they said!

Chapter Text
When Chuuya arrived at the location Dazai sent him he didn’t expect to see this.
He was prepared to fight or run, even for this all to be a prank. What he didn’t expect is that he will walk on a game…of chess.
Did he forget something? He was sure he heard Dazai tell him that some men were chasing him because he told them he was stupid. Well, the mentioned men were all currently playing against Dazai and clearly losing.
Where was the chasing? Or angry men? Okay, those were here, but they were angry about the game of chess.
The redhead put the knife back ihto his pocket.
“Oi bastard, what the hell is this?! I rushed here and for what?” Dazai and the men turned towards Chuuya.
“Chibiiiii you came! Just in time to see them lose. Come, sit down.” Dazai patted a chair next to him.
“Not until you explain all of this. I thought you were in danger!”
“I was in danger…of losing, but it’s all fine now.” The brunet grinned and patted the seat next to him again.
Chuuya just didn’t have the energy at the moment, so he sat down while glaring at Dazai and muttering an ‘idiot’ under his breath.
The men that Dazai was playing chess finally snaped out of this weird silence they were in when they saw Chuuya. The tallest of them was the first time who regained the ability to speak and raised an eyebrow, “Who is this this? Is this the omega you been talking to over the phone”
Ohhh, so they were one of those. The type of alpha that thought omegas were good for nothing other than having children. The redhead despised these people, and they were so easy to recognise. They never used scent blockers or suppressants, just letting their scent assault everyone’s nose. They also used this tone whenever they talked to or about omegas.
He wanted to tell the men to fuck off, but he bit his tongue. He wasn’t in the mood to fight, and he knew it would come down to that if he said anything to hurt their ego. So, he just settled down on glaring at them.
Instead, the one who responded was surprisingly Dazai, “His name is Chuuya thank you very much, I told you that already. Now how about we finish this game.”
Even if brunet’s tone was cheerful, his smile was clearly forced and for whatever reason the scent of the other man stopped assaulting Chuuya’s nose and others followed. After Chuuya visibly relaxed Dazai’s smile became much more real.
The redhead will never understand what was going on in any alpha’s brain.
But all of this scent thing woke up Chuuya’s omega from its sleep.
What’s happening? It asked.
Would tell you if I had any idea. The man responded before returning his attention to Dazai and other men. His omega decided it was good enough answer, but it didn’t return to sleep. It stayed alert on their surroundings, especially on the alpha next to them.
Everyone’s attention turned back to the game after that. One thing Chuuya learned about Dazai is that the man is incredible at chess or at least extremely lucky. While the group discussed each move for at least five minutes brunet didn’t even look at the board for more than ten seconds before making a move.
So, while the group discussed what move will they make Dazai talked to Chuuya.
“Whattt aboutttttt, what is your favourite colour?”
“Nope you already asked me that yesterday, idiot.” Chuuya shook his head and Dazai pouted.
“Nottt fairrr. I asked you almost everything, can’t you start a conversation for once.”
“I’m way to tired for that. The shift was brutal.” Chuuya groaned, he got at least 10 people screaming at him.
“Seee, you are already making a conversation.”
“Well, I don’t wanna talk about today…” Chuuya said and let out a long yawn. This time Dazai got the message and stayed quiet. Though this time he wrapped an arm around Chuuya and pulled him closer, startling both Chuuya and his omega, who was still awake and focused on surrounding was now relaxed and comfortable.
Safe. Tall alpha is safe. It said to Chuuya, which was surprising since his omega was always either asleep or wary of most people while awake.
“Oi, what is this for?”
“My alpha has been screaming at me for quite some time now. I couldn’t hold it back anymore” The brunet mumbled. Chuuya rolled his eyes, but didn’t pull away, instead he made himself comfortable. It was all to get his omega back to sleep, of course. Only because he didn’t want to deal with it for who knows how long…
They waited for a few more minutes while the group of men were still discussing their move. It wasn’t comfortable silence, but it wasn’t uncomfortable either. Their secondary genders were more than happy, so that was a plus.
AND finally, the men decided the move and looked back at Dazai. There were a few surprised expressions on their faces after seeing the changed position, but no one was brave enough to say anything. Chuuya wondered why.
***
Dazai was glaring at other men hard.
Or rather his alpha was. The second that Dazai met Chuuya at that shop his alpha was always alert, even if he himself didn’t admit it at the start. And today, for some reason it was even worse. At start he was glaring at that man because his alpha was sure it was disrespectful to the omega. Then a few minutes it had enough, it just took control those few moments and pulled Chuuya close. The redhead didn’t resist it, his secondary gender probably wide awake just like Dazai’s.
Now Dazai was glaring at other men, challenging them to even try to say something. Of course they didn’t.
The tallest, who Dazai learned was their leader made the move they spent so long discussing. Well, it was clearly for nothing. The men might be strong, but they were dumb. Since Dazai was opposite- weak but smart- and this particular game was chess, it gave him an advantage.
The move they made directly exposed their king to Dazai’s bishop. It was most likely the stupidest move in chess history. He looked the man directly in his eyes as he knocked their king off the chessboard.
His alpha was proud. It had regained some pride after losing towards Ranpo multiple times. The fact that the omega it was so interested in was there helped even more.
Too bad that he wasn’t lucky, like he mentioned countless times before. As soon as the others realized what happened their expressions turned from confusion to rage, their egos were bruised badly.
Dazai knew if he and Chuuya didn’t run this could end badly. Chuuya clearly understood that as well because he quickly stood up and pulled Dazai with him.
So, they ran, and ran, and ran some more until Dazai started slowing down after only two damn minutes. He wasn’t the most active person…
Soon his legs gave up and he fell. Here was the problem; like it was mentioned before the men were strong and certainly fast.
As Dazai tried to catch his breath and stand up, they were catching up pretty quickly. He was sure he heard Chuuya letting out string of curses before there was someone picking him up and running.
Chuuya was either super strong or there was finally visible evidence of him skipping most meals. No matter which it was, he was thankful for it. Maybe not so much at being carried the princess style but still better than being painfully killed by group of angry and stupid alphas that just destroyed at chess.
“My apartment is that way.” Dazai tried pointing, but he quickly realized he would fall if he actually pointed, but thankfully Chuuya understood.
They made some unnecessary turns to get rid of group chasing them, but even that way they were at Dazai’s apartment in no time.
The brunet hit the floor with a loud tumph but he hardly cared as he looked around to see if they truly got rid of the men while Chuuya stretched.
“Never knew that you were that strong Chuuya.”
“Shut it, I at least work out. You are only damn skin and bones, I usually can’t carry a person taller than me that long especially when I’m running. Are you even eating?” Chuuya huffed as pulled Dazai up into standing position.
“If there is anything left after Atsushi eats.” Which was a half-truth. He did eat if Atsushi left anything, but he also made only enough for the boy most of the time. “Let’s go inside, that boy probably misses me already.”
Chuuya didn’t complain as Dazai pulled him to elevator. The ride up was silent, but they didn’t mind and once Dazai unlocked the door there was a boy running towards him.
If he was honest, Atsushi wormed his way into Dazai’s heart quite fast, and he was sure it will be the same for Chuuya.
“Daddd! Where were you?”
“Not for you to worry about tiger. How about I order us some dinner?”
The white-haired boy nodded eagerly; he clearly wasn’t bothered by Chuuya’s presence at all which was good.
He was one step closer to completing the first step of the operation.

Chapter Text
Chuuya had to admit that the apartment didn’t look so bad. Sure, it was small compared to his, but it at least had some signs that someone lived in here. There were dirty dishes on the sink, a tiger plushie on the couch, there was TV (it was playing some show about people with abilities and weird haircuts that have to defeat an immortal Russian man) and papers scattered all over the damn floor. In his own apartment there wasn’t even a single sign that someone was living there since he spent so much time working and only slept in there sometimes.
While Dazai was greeting Atsushi the redhead closed the doors behind him and moved deeper into the apartment. The more he saw, more he realized that there were only Atsushi’s things everywhere and not a single one from brunet. It was like Dazai didn’t even live there.
His thoughts were interrupted by a pair of footsteps behind him. One light, fast and just happy and the other which were heavier but still light, Chuuya almost couldn’t hear them. Either that bastard was used to walking in a way that no one heard him, or he didn’t eat enough and was just light. Most likely a bit of both.
“Hi mister! I’m so happy to see you again!” An overly enthusiastic voice said from behind him, and even before he could properly turn around, there was a little body wrapped around his leg, hugging it tightly.
He tried to not to wince when Atsushi’s body touched his newly acquired wound on his thigh he got on last mission that was perfectly fine until this moment, “Good to see you too, kiddo. You are really happy about this, huh?” he chuckled trying to sound like it wasn’t forced, but that shit hurt.
“Yup, I reallyyy wanted to talk to you more. You just looked so cool!”
At that Chuuya let out a real chuckle suddenly in way better mood than before. He finally looked down only to see the boy staring at him with the biggest smile he ever saw. “Dad ordered dinner for us. Can you stay?”
The redhead thought about it for a moment before nodding, he’ll move in anyway. It wasn’t such a big deal if he did it a little sooner. “Sure kid, I’ll even stay for the night if you want too.”
Atsushi’s smile somehow became even bigger, he nodded and finally let go of his leg only to grab his hand and pull him to Dazai, “Cannn heee? Pleaseee dadddd.”
The brunet, who was watching the whole thing unfold nodded, his expression softening when he looked at Atsushi. “Sure, kid why not. Now how about you go watch some TV before dinner.”
The kid nodded and ran to the couch, leaving Dazai and Chuuya alone.
There was awkward silence for a few moments before the taller spoke up.
“So, I believe that you’ll just move in?”
“Yup, it’ll be easier for me, and I can just go get my things in the morning” The shorter nodded before looking around, properly this time.
His eyes briefly scanned the living room since there was nothing interesting in it. Instead, he took a better look at the kitchen.
It was small, with only a sink, stove and an oven. It did have everything one would need to cook though. IF anyone knew. It didn’t look like it. The bin was full of take-out bags which clearly indicated that no one cooked.
His eyes found Dazai’s brown ones, “You can’t cook?” he frowned. A simple question.
“Not really, I know how to make some things that everyone knows how to make. Other than that no.” the brunet shrugged, like it didn’t bother him before he asked the same question, “How about you? Can you cook?”
Ah, he caught him.
The omega shook his head, “Never bothered learning. I usually just eat some snacks for lunch when I’m on my break and I eat dinner with Kouyou.”
It wasn’t a big deal, really. This isn’t last century where omegas stayed at home and took care of the house while their partners or mates worked. No. In reality a lot of omegas didn’t cook nowadays. Kouyou did try teaching him but…let’s just say it didn’t work out.
“Huh, so I guess we are both hopeless in that category. Maybe we should learn together~” Dazai said, getting Chuuya out of his thoughts.
“No way.” The suggestion itself wasn’t bad but the way the younger said it just somehow irritated the redhead.
Before this conversation could continue the doorbell rang.

Chapter Text
The next few days for Atsushi are spent adjusting to this new routine. The nice man, who dad told him to call papa or something like that, doesn’t leave. He stays. Soon his things are in his dad’s room, but his bed got smaller. Half of dad’s bed is now on one side of the room while the other half is on the other.
But today is different, while Atsushi’s now other dad goes visit the nice, tall lady, his dad sits down on the couch.
/Okay, how should I approach this. He needs to study./
“Hey ‘Sushi. Can you focus on me for a moment,” his dad asks, and Atsushi turns the Tv off.
“Sure dad,” he turns around and notices the stack of papers in brunet’s hands, “What is that?”
His dad smiles and puts the papers on the table, “You see, you’re 6, which means that you will go to school. That is a building where kids your age and older go to learn new things.”
Atsushi nods and thinks. So his dad wants him to attend school, it doesn’t sound like the orphanage, plus he did learn how to read and write at the orphanage so maybe he is going to have an advantage!
“Okay…so when does it start?”
“Ah, it starts in about two weeks but before that, the new students have to complete and exam to prove that they’re worthy of attending this particular school.”
/And that’s why he needs to study, the exams are in a week./
Atsushi can use that information to prove himself!
“These exams are in a week, right?”
“I- yes. How did you know?” His father looks baffled, did he say something he wasn’t supposed to? Oh no! What if he figures out about Atsushi’s mind reading! He won’t like it and send him back to orphanage! That’s bad, that’s very bad!
Atsushi quickly backtracks, “I- uh, it was, um- it was a lucky guess dad.”
Dazai visibly relaxes, “Okay, sorry I overreacted kiddo. Well, where was I…” he rakes a moment to think, “..Ah yes, exams. You need to pass them and for that you need to study.”
“Study?”
“It means to learn a certain thing you need to know.” He explains, “and that’s what these papers are for. Today we are learning math.”
Math? It doesn’t sound so bad.
___________
It is bad. Atsushi only knew numbers from 1 to 10. Now he knows a lot more and it hurts his head. Thankfully he gets saved by his papa.
“Oi! I’m back. Kouyou insisted I bring some cooki-“ He gets interrupted by Atsushi running towards him and jumping on his leg.
“PAPAAA! Help me!! Dad’s torturing me!” the little boy cries out.
“…What?”
“He’s making me learn numbers.” Chuuya’s confusion disappears when he hears that.
“Math, eh? Don’t worry I never liked it either. Come let’s go back to your dad.”
/At least the kid’s getting proper education unlike me./
Atsushi thinks for a moment. Now that pa’ is here, he might be safe. Papa is strong, he’ll protect him. He nods and they go.
“Oi, bastard. Why is the first thing that happens when I come back Atsushi running towards me and screaming that you’re torturing him?”
“It was just some simple math, okay? Numbers till 100. Nothing special.” His dad answers. He doesn’t even look up from where he’s cleaning the papers and his pa’ rolls his eyes.
“Whatever, education is your problem anyway. I don’t have time for these things,” he slams the bag with cookies on the table, “I need to take a shower, my pre-heat symptoms are already here.”
“Preheat? What’s that?” Atsushi asks.
“You’ll understand when you’re older.” His dad says and offers him a cookie which he gladly takes. Then he turns his attention to Chuuya, “Pre-heat? Already? Didn’t you say we have at least another week to figure it out before pre-heat symptoms start.”
“I said around not at least, idiot. And you can’t predict your rut either.”
“Fine go take that shower.” His dad says and waves with his hand, “And you go to your room ‘Sushi.”
Atsushi nods and goes.
Notes:
Yeahhh I just kinda lost intrest but now I got back into it. Just don't expect any update schedule.
