Work Text:
“You’ve really never done this?” York asked, standing steady on his skates as he watched Rosé and Grandma wobble onto the ice, clinging to one another.
“Why would we have done this?” Grandma asked hotly. “I’m not sporty York!”
“It is important for travelling in the winter in the Northern tribes.” York frowned. “I do not truly understand this skating for fun.”
“That’s okay.” Rosé wobbled over to cling to York’s arm, Grandma taking his other after a moment. “We’ll just get you to take us along.”
For a moment York contemplated picking them both up, but they had already insisted on using skates rather than travelling in the sleighs on the land despite the comparative safety. Then he decided against it, spinning them carefully and beginning to skate along the canal, Rosé and Grandma clinging to his arms and whooping as they went along.
They ended up, a couple of hours later, at a picnic table with hot chocolate and sweet, flat pastries that York had been told the name of several times but still couldn’t remember.
“That was so fun!” Grandma hugged York around the waist and Rosé joined them after a moment. “We should actually learn sometime!”
