Work Text:
“Shuji, what do you want for Christmas this year?”
Jeonghan asks Jisoo, batting his eyelashes towards the younger. He’s been thinking of what to get his boyfriend for months now, and he’s down to one day before Christmas and he still doesn’t have a present in mind. Kind of.
Jisoo snickers, darting his legs to the older’s thighs. The two of them had established a tradition since their first Christmas as a couple, which involves the two of them competing about who gives the best gift every Christmas and so far, Jisoo is leading.
In their first year, Jisoo won by giving the older a lego set— The Orient Express Lego Set as they call it and Jeonghan almost cried when he saw it. (If he worshipped Jisoo for a whole week starting that Christmas Eve, no one has to know. He loved it that much, but honestly, who would not worship Jisoo?)
In their second year, Jeonghan won by giving Jisoo a whole course pass for pottery making (for two, because he wouldn’t leave his baby alone, of course!) Jisoo was so happy he jumped Jeonghan and gave him 76 kisses. Yes, he counted it. And yes, he loved every bit of it.
Their third year came and they both decided that both of them won. Since Jisoo’s birthday was around the corner, Jeonghan chose to give him a trip to Japan and they left on the 28th, while Jisoo gave Jeonghan their baby— Doljjong and its whole house set.
In their fourth year, Jisoo gifted the older a song. Joshua had sneaked around a lot with their friend, Jihoon, to record and produce it in his studio. Jeonghan cried (as always).
Now it’s their fifth year and Jeonghan is stuck with what to get his boyfriend. He knows Jisoo like the back of his hand and wants to give him a lot of things, but sometimes he gets stuck because Jisoo often just gets whatever he wants.
Jisoo’s soft hum brought Jeonghan back, eyes finding the younger’s thinking face. “Hannie, I’m good. You’re my gift. What, are you scared that you’ll lose again this year?” the younger says whimsically, winking at the older and Jeonghan can’t help but laugh at his boyfriend’s antics.
Jeonghan lets out a small whine, pinching Jisoo’s legs a bit. “No, I was bluffing. Prepare to lose tomorrow, Shuji, I’m gonna beat you,” the older says, reaching out his boyfriend’s hands to pull him closer and kiss him slowly.
Jisoo kisses him back, one hand finding its way towards the older’s face and the other slowly resting on Jeonghan’s shoulder. Jeonghan nips his lower lip for a bit before pulling away slowly to catch his breath. “Hmm, what time would you be stopping by the food center tomorrow?”
Jisoo pecks his lips one, two, three times, the third kiss lingering for a bit. “Mm, I’ll be leaving at around 6:30? I’ll be back before lunch, I swear. Sorry, I had to leave you to do the prep alone, baby. I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”
Jeonghan caresses the younger’s back, “It’s alright, baby. You sure you guys don’t need the extra hands?”
Jisoo nods, “Yep, sure. Go rest tomorrow, hmm? I might leave before you wake up but I’ll kiss you before I leave, I promise.”
Jeonghan chuckles, kissing the younger once more.
Maybe their Christmas Eve was spent loving each other, who would ever know?
🎄
Jeonghan wakes up with Jisoo’s side of the bed cold.
He immediately sits up, stretching before getting up to start assembling his gift.
He brushes his teeth and checks Jisoo’s shared location on ‘Find My’. Seeing that Jisoo seems to be in the proper location, he hurries and starts decorating their home, attaching balloons and placing special different candles he purposely bought for that day.
Once he finishes setting up their living room, he then proceeds to start cooking. Jeonghan has three dishes on his agenda today: Joshua’s favorite steak, pasta, and stir fried spicy pork. He first cooks the pasta, boiling some water before chopping some aromatics for the sauce.
Once the water boils down, he puts in the pasta and moves to start cooking the sauce. He sautés the onion and garlic before putting in the tomatoes, carefully seasoning the sauce. Once he deems it delicious enough, he sets out to cook the stir-fried spicy pork, marinating and seasoning it the way Jisoo would. He turns on the flame and makes sure to cook the meat, reducing the sauce as to how his boyfriend likes it.
The time reads 10:00 AM and Jeonghan hurries to change into much more presentable clothes, dashing out of their home to pick up the carrot cake Jisoo loves from the bakery down the block. He gets in the car and sets out in the direction of the cafe.
It’s a fifteen minute drive and once he arrives, the owner greets him with a smile plastered on her face, fine lines settling on her forehead. “Hey, Jeonghan. Ready for the big day?”
Jeonghan waves her off, smiling cheekily. “Not really, honestly so nervous but I’m excited. Hopefully, he goes back in time though or I don’t know, I’m so nervous, Auntie. You think it would go well?”
The old lady comes out from behind the counter, smiling while running a soothing hand to the young man’s back. “It will go well, Jeonghan. I know so because it’s you and Jisoo. I’ve seen you kids since your first date and I know true love when I see one, okay? Now go get your baby.”
Jeonghan breathes out a sigh of relief and hugs the old lady before she goes back behind the counter to get the cake. “Here you go, I made this one extra special with love. Goodluck, don’t let your nerves get to you.”
Jeonghan takes the cake and smiles wholly at the old lady. He takes deep breaths and nods to himself and hugs the owner, "Thank you so much, Auntie. I'll be back with an update! Merry Christmas!"
He sets out to leave and hears a faint 'Merry Christmas' before leaving the cafe and driving back home.
🎄
The drive back was quick and he carefully puts the cake in their refrigerator before once again tracking Jisoo's whereabouts. He checks the time, 10:50 and he's got about an hour before Jisoo comes back from his feeding outreach for the kids. He checks and sees his boyfriend's location moving and he knows the other's about to come home.
He hurries to take a quick clean up in the kitchen and checks if he had already defrosted the steak he would cook after he showers.
One thing that boggles Jisoo's mind about his boyfriend is how he takes fast showers. Sure, Jeonghan takes time whenever they shower together but Jeonghan showering alone lasts for a maximum of ten minutes, as opposed to him taking his time. For Jeonghan though, that is an advantage that comes into play especially now that he only has about 30 minutes left before Jisoo gets back.
He finished showering with 15 minutes left to spare, taking 5 minutes to comb his hair and pick out the perfect outfit for their special day. He sets up his old phone somewhere hidden, making sure to press record.
He then proceeds to check where Jisoo is and finds out that he's already near. He turns on the stove, heating the pan where he would cook the steak.
The pan sizzles when he carefully puts on a dollop of butter before dropping the meat. He takes note of the time and flips the steak, smiling as he sees that the first side of the steak is in a perfect color. He hears their door wiggling and in a few seconds, Jisoo comes in, hanging his coat by their coat rack, smiling at the smell of food in their home.
"Hannie, I'm home!" He hurries to find Jeonghan in the kitchen and hugs him from behind. Jeonghan smiles at the feel of his lover's chest against his back as he turns his head to kiss the younger on the lips. "Welcome home, baby. Merry Christmas."
He feels Jisoo smile into the kiss, and as much as he wants to prolong it, their steak might burn. "Hmm, wait wait, I'm done. Let me just finish up, hm? Why don't you sit for a while?" Jisoo shakes his head and goes back to hug him again, burrowing his face to Jeonghan's back.
He plates the steak and cuts it, his lover still clinging to him like a koala. He turns around to face Jisoo, cupping his face and squeezing it before squishing his cheeks to kiss him. They let go and Jisoo's face is still set in the most adorable pout. "Let's eat? Come on, go sit. I'll just light up the candles."
He lights up the candles around their house and discreetly checks if his phone is still recording. Once he made sure that it was, he sat down and started placing food on Jisoo's plate. "How was today's activity, baby?"
The younger lights up at the question, "So nice, Hannie! The kids were so happy when they got their toys and I didn't expect that a lot of people would volunteer today since it's Christmas but gosh, there were a lot! That's so fun."
Jisoo takes a bite of the steak and his eyes widens, munching while his brows are furrowed. "This is so good, you outdid yourself this time, love." He mutters and Jeonghan laughs at the cuteness of his lover.
Jeonghan grins and wipes the sauce on the side of the younger's lips. "Good?" he asks, to which the younger nods aggressively. "I think I loved you more the moment I chewed this, baby."
Jeonghan laughs at his lover's statement as he started eating, too. The two talked about what they would do for the holidays and how they would spend Jisoo's birthday on the 30th when Jisoo suddenly remembered something. "Oh wait, your present! Wait, I'm gonna get it. Oh, I'm so gonna win this year again. Be prepared to lose, baby."
He dashes out to their guest room and comes back with a big box. He comes back grinning, only to come to a slow halt when he sees Jeonghan holding a small box wrapped in a gift wrapper, biting his lips while down on one knee, looking at him.
Jisoo's eyes start to tear up. With a shaky voice, he gathers the courage to ask, "Han-- Hannie, what's this?"
Jeonghan gives him the small box wrapped, hands trembling. "Open it for me, baby? It's my gift to you."
The younger carefully unwraps the gift as Jeonghan started to speak again. "Hong Jisoo, I love you. This is not for our competition, first of all. You might think that I'm pranking you or something but baby, we've been spending our Christmases for five years now and I know for sure that I want to spend the rest of my Christmases and the rest of my life with you. The first time I saw you, I knew for sure that I was gonna marry you, and that may seem a bit too forward or assuming, but it's you, Shuji. I love you and oh my, please stop crying?"
Jisoo laughs and hits his shoulders lightly. "You can't say that when you're also crying!"
Jeonghan laughs before he continues, "Okay, alright. Hong Jisoo, will you please please please marry me?"
Jisoo nods while crying, "Yes, Jeonghan. Oh my gosh, yes. Now put this on me!"
Jeonghan grabs the ring and carefully puts it on Jisoo's ring finger, sobbing as he stands up to kiss the younger.
Merry Christmas, indeed.
