Work Text:

"This is one of your worst ideas yet," Rebekah groaned as she watched her brothers in the kitchen.

This whole debacle started because someone (namely Kol) thought it would be nice to bake for Emma. She was also baking for the rest of them, so with four of them working towards a common goal, how hard could it be? Instead of choosing to make something simple like cookies (Rebekah's suggestion) or brownies (Elijah's suggestion), Kol wanted to go big. This is how Klaus came up with the idea of a Baked Alaska.

They were all doomed.

"Nik, your cake looks awful," Kol chided. He was furiously beating the egg whites, sugar, cream, and salt. Elijah was triple checking the recipe to make sure they weren't missing anything. Kol was right about Klaus' cake, it was very not cake shaped. It looked like the leaning tower of Pisa and was very dense.

"You used too much flour," Elijah sighed, taking the merengue out of Kol's hands. Klaus glared at him.

"Thank you Elijah, that is very helpful," Klaus turned back to his cake, hands on his hips. "I'm not a baker."

"Exactly!" Rebekah exclaimed. She refused to help in this ill-fated task of theirs. Instead, she was sipping on wine at the kitchen island. "This is a ridiculous plan."

"That's quitter talk," Kol beamed, taking the ice cream out of the freezer. "We can adjust." He tried to start putting the ice cream on the cake, but Elijah caught his wrist.

"The cake isn't done setting."

"See? Elijah knows what he's doing," Kol pointed to the eldest brother, looking Rebekah in the eye. He turned back to Elijah and patted his shoulder. "You're finally useful for something."

Rebekah left the kitchen before she throttled all of them. Kol and Klaus, she could understand, but she had no idea why Elijah would indulge in this plan. She went into the living room to call Freya on her progress.

For their Christmas celebration, they had recruited Finn and Freya to take Emma out for the day and bring her back to the Mikaelson manor when things were settled. Emma was suspicious of them but didn't say anything, used to their antics. Rebekah wished she could be with them right now instead of her fool brothers. Freya picked up on the third ring.

"How is our lovely baker?" Rebekah asked, leaning against the wall.

"Hello to you too," Freya laughed. "She's fine. She enjoyed a lovely Christmas market. Be prepared for gifts."

"I expected nothing less," Rebekah hummed. "She really doesn't have to get us anything."

"She likes it, let her have this." Freya was right, and Rebekah knew it, but she still had a hard time admitting anything. "How are our brothers?"

"Idiots, the lot of them," Rebekah groaned. She could hear Freya's laughter on the other end of the phone. "If you see a baked treat that Emma might like, buy it. I'm preparing for the worst."

Freya said her goodbyes as Rebekah hung up. She channeled her frustration into determination and walked back into the kitchen. She paused in the doorway. Somehow, between the time it took for her to chat with Freya and come back, they managed to get the merengue everywhere. They all froze when she came back in.

"Why must you act like this?" Rebekah inquired. They all looked at each other as if debating their answers. Eventually, Elijah coughed.

"It was Kol's doing."

"Really?" Kol started yelling at Elijah, and Klaus laughed at the scene. Rebekah clapped her hands, yelling at them to shut up.

"You guys need to finish this mess of a cake now before Emma gets here, or I will have you all daggered by nightfall," Rebekah hissed, pointing a finger at all three of them. "I'm going to finish setting up the rest of the house for the holidays because, apparently, I'm the only competent one around here."

Her brothers knew better than to argue with Bex when she was like this, so they went back to their cake. They got it iced and in the oven in time, giving Elijah ample time to clean the kitchen. Kol found his sister finishing up decorations in the main room and setting the table.

"You're scary," Kol commented. Rebekah turned to him with a grin.

"It took you long enough to realize that."

Kol walked over and helped her set up. Rebekah enjoyed the quiet moments she had with her brother. She felt like they hadn't had them in a while. They managed to get everything set up by the time Freya and Finn arrived with Emma. Rebekah enjoyed the look of glee that crossed her face. Rebekah immediately crossed the length of the floor to hug her, feeling like it had been forever since she last saw her. Truthfully, it had only been a couple days. Emma hugged her back, burying her face in her shoulder.

"Missed you too, Bex," she hummed. Rebekah pulled back and kissed her on her head. Kol swooped in after her, picking her up and spinning her around.

"Kol!" Emma called out, but it was punctuated with laughter. She stumbled a bit when Kol finally put her down. "I had mulled wine at the market; I'm not sober enough to be twirled."

"But you look beautiful when you're all flushed," Kol smirked. Emma gave him a glare as the other two brothers appeared. They ended up having to move out of the entryway to make room for everyone.

They settled down for a dinner that Elijah prepared. Rebekah was thankful her brother had the foresight to think of a proper meal. Emma showered them with gifts (Rebekah wanted to whisk her away for herself after she opened hers). At the end of dinner, Kol clapped his hands to announce the big finish. Emma looked around in confusion. Rebekah waited with bated breath as Kol emerged from the kitchen with Baked Alaska. Rebekah put her head in her hands and groaned.

"We made you a cake," Kol said, putting it on the table. The thing was tipping over and looked more like a volcanic eruption than a Baked Alaska. Emma bit her lips to hide her laughter. "Elijah, Klaus, and I. Rebekah refused to help."

"I refuse to attach myself to such a monstrosity," Rebekah pointed at the confection.

"It looks like the cake from Sleeping Beauty," Emma said, smiling. "But I am very excited to try it. And I appreciate you guys attempting to make something."

Emma got up to kiss all three brothers on the cheek, also giving Rebekah a kiss for good measure. Kol let her have the honors of cutting the cake, and she paused when she looked at it.

"You realize you forgot the ice cream, right?" she asked, pointing at the center. Elijah put his head in his hands as Klaus and Kol started yelling at each other.

Truthfully, it wouldn't be a Mikaelson family Christmas without a little drama.
