Work Text:
It was Christmas Eve, and Pip had been sitting on the couch, his eyes locked to the space underneath the Christmas tree. It wasn’t empty, given the presents surrounding the tree were ones Pip bought for Gregory. He knew he should’ve gotten used to not getting gifts, having lived in the orphanage his entire life. He didn’t know why he thought living with his new boyfriend, Gregory would change anything. The two had been together for years, it was only this year they decided to move in together, and spend holidays with one another.
The Brit sighed, slouching, while rubbing his eyes. Gregory had been at work all day, claiming he had to work overtime since most employees would be gone that night. Pip couldn’t see why Gregory didn’t take a day off either.
After sitting for an hour or so, Pip decided it was time to head to bed. Turning off the living room lights, he went to his and Gregory’s shared bedroom. He shouldn’t have gotten his hopes up, and that he should be grateful with what he already had. Pip knew Gregory loved him dearly, but it was the fact that Pip felt like he wasn’t worth getting gifts for nor was he deserving of it. Once he was ready to tuck in for the night, Pip glanced at his phone. It was 11:56.
No new messages from Gregory, or anyone for that matter. He really should stop trying.
Pip wrapped himself around the covers, getting as comfy as he could in the empty bed. The house was silent, from out the window, Pip could see the faint lights from the Christmas decorations he and Gregory had put up days earlier. The soft scent of cookies he had baked in the morning reminiscing in the room.
Sitting up, Pip looked at his phone one last time. Maybe Gregory had finally sent him something. His eyes flickered to the time in the top left corner. 12:00 A.M.
It was Christmas. A day to spend with family, friends, and loved ones. Another Christmas going by without anything special happening.
Why did Pip have to be so alone.
