Work Text:
After the first finals of the year it was winter break and time to go home for the holidays. Mittens was excited to go home and get ready for the holidays. It was her favorite season, the snow coating everything in Lalaloopsyland made great for skiing and sledding, and afterwards it was nice to curl up by the fire inside with family and friends.
“I’m home!” Mittens called as she shut the front door behind her. She could hear footsteps as she took off her boots.
“Welcome home Mittens!” Her mother smiled, extending her arms. Mittens returned the hug, glad to be home.
“How was the drive over? Not too bad? I’ve got cocoa ready in the kitchen.”
“Not too bad, Crumbs and I took turns. She says hi by the way.” Mittens responded as she followed her mom into the kitchen.
Her sister sat at the kitchen table, chunky yarn on the table and crochet hook in hand. Bundles was eight now and she’d just started learning to crochet.
“What’cha making?” Mittens asked her younger sister as she sat down next to her.
“Nunya business!” She replied sticking her tongue out.
“Geez missed you too” Mittens rolled her eyes as Boots laughed at her daughters, setting a cup of cocoa in front of Mittens.
“Well tell Crumbs as always she’s welcome to come over anytime she wants. Although she may not sound like it, Bundles has been waiting for you to get home all morning.” Mittens laughed as Bundles stuck out her tongue again, at Boots this time. She giggled and turned to her older sister.
“Are you gonna take me sledding?”
Mittens sipped her cocoa. “Perhaps. Maybe this year Mom and I will teach you how to ski.” Bundles practically fell out of her chair.
“Really? Really really? Serious? Will you Mom? Can we go now?” Bundles asked excitedly, looking between the two of them. Boots laughed.
“Go get ready while Mittens and I finish our cocoa” She jumped up, socked feet sliding across the floor as she gathered up her yarn.
“Yes! Thank you thank you thank you!!” The two of them laughed as Bundles ran off to get ready. Mittens sighed with a smile.
“It’s so good to be home.”
It was much later that evening when Mittens was getting ready for bed that Bundles came into her room crochet project in arms. After going skiing that day (which Bundles had been really good at for it being her first time) Bundles had spent the rest of the afternoon and into the evening crocheting.
“Mittens?”
Mittens paused brushing her hair and turned to her sister.
“What’s up?”
Bundles sat down next to her on the bed and unfurled the project she’d been working on. It was a chunky white scarf that she draped around her sister’s shoulders.
“Do you like it? I made it for you. It matches your hat.”
Mittens gasped and grinned, gently touching the soft yarn.
“Bundles this is amazing! You did this all by yourself? How long did it take?”
Bundles beamed happily. “I’ve been working on it for a couple of weeks cause I had trouble learning how to do it but now it’s really easy”
Mittens ran her fingers over the soft yarn as she smiled, wrapping her sister up in a hug. Bundles squeezed her tight.
“Merry Christmas Mittens”
“Merry Christmas Bundles”
