Chapter Text
Hands clasped tightly together in front of him, Luke tried his best to calm his pounding heart. He has already counted to 100 over a thousand times, taking deep breaths, and closing his eyes to block out the white tiles of the bathroom. Nothing was working, leaving the three minutes he needed to wait to feel like hours.
He didn’t dare look up from his position on the toilet. If he did check his phone that was there and only saw a few seconds have passed he was going to s cream .
Just when he was debating about meditating to calm his nerves, he jumped when his phone alarm went off. He nearly tumbled over his own feet with coltish movements when he jolted up and turned to the bathroom counter.
After fumbling to shut off his phone’s alarm, Luke stared down at the pregnancy test sitting innocently at the edge of the sink. His chest hurt with how hard his heart pounded but he stared at it so scared of the answer. His mind was blank and yet there were a thousand thoughts running through his head that he couldn’t grasp to know exactly what he was thinking.
Pressing his lips together, he closed his eyes and took a slow, deep breath. Carefully he pushed everything out of his mind until there was nothing but peace and the flow of his thoughts were easier to grasp.
He knew he was just nervous but there was no need to be scared. He already had a wonderful life with a husband and mate, and their two children. Grogu and Rey might not be his kids by birth, but they were his kids. So who cared if he wasn’t pregnant...
Yet... yet he had a feeling he was. It was only a month and a half ago when he had his last Heat and these past few weeks he had been feeling different. Sore, moody, and nauseous. Things that he read about and Leia and his mother spoke of when they were pregnant. Or was that just his wishful thinking?
Gods, he and Din desperately wanted a third child . If he wasn’t... He was just thankful that he hadn’t mentioned anything to his partner yet. The dashed hope would hurt him so much.
Shaking his head, Luke took another deep breath that filled him with resolve. Before he could overthink again he reached out and flipped the little stick over.
He stared at the object with his breath caught in his throat. A slow creep of emotions welled up from his chest and he could feel the start of tears gather in his eyes.
All of the anxiety in him seeped out like an avalanche. He started to shake and his legs became so weak that they threatened to give out from under him. He moved backward until his legs hit the edge of the bathtub and then slowly sank to sit.
Slowly with reverence, he placed a hand on his stomach. “Hello there, little one,” he whispered, his voice between a sob and a laugh, with tears falling from his eyes. “Everyone is going to love you so much.”
His voice choked up and he bent over slightly, staring at his hand over his stomach. He allowed himself to be. To let the knowledge that there was a baby in him that Din and he created. Another sibling for Rey and Grogu. Another life to love.
The tears wouldn’t stop and Luke didn’t even try to stop them. The anxiety was gone but in its place was so much joy that he couldn’t believe that this could be felt in one person. The only times he had felt this before was when marrying Din, when he officially adopted Grogu, and when Rey was adopted. It threatened to burst out of his chest. Threatened to drown him, and he let himself be pulled under to just feel.
When he finally stopped crying, he took a deep breath as he raised his head back. He blinked back the tears and sniffled softly. He was glad he decided to do all of this with everyone out of the house or he would have a trio of knocks on the door asking if he was okay.
With the thought of his family, Luke laughed before he lowered his face and wiped away his tears. He didn’t remove his hand from his stomach when his strength returned and he pushed himself up to stand.
Coming back to the sink, he checked the little stick again and the word ‘pregnant’ stood out starkly from the little LED screen. He laughed again, the giddiness in him growing.
He took the stick in his free hand and started to form a plan in his head about how he would let the rest of his family know. He might have to wait to tell the kids and the rest of the family until he got through his first trimester, just because it was notoriously hard for male Omega’s during that time to see if the pregnancy would go through, but he definitely would tell Din first and foremost.
As he was about to leave the bathroom with his prize and excitement, he glanced at himself in the mirror. A huge smile was across his face, and he realized now that his cheeks were starting to hurt with how hard he was grinning.
And well... who could blame him for the joyous discovery?
