Work Text:
“I just can’t do it, chief,” Clark said. He was staring down at his own knees while Lois let out an exasperated sigh beside him.
“Kent, I keep offering you these plumb assignments. It’s real strange that you’re okay with writing a million scoops a day about Superman, but you don’t want to talk with him one-on-one.” Perry White said.
“I’ve got a very sensitive relationship with Superman,” Clark explained. “I don’t want to push things by bugging him for exclusives. I’m lucky enough he gives me the tips I’ve got.”
“If Clark’s going to be a wuss,” Lois spoke up, “I’ll take the assignment.”
“Fine, Lane, I know you’ll get it done,” said Perry. He sighed as he looked upon Clark. “You’ve got great instincts, my boy. You’ve gotta stop letting your cowardice win.”
Clark gulped. “I’ll try, Chief.” As they were dismissed, Lois was practically preening. Clark had to bite back a smile. Sometimes it felt like he was juggling three people in his head, but Superman would get to flirt with Lois tonight – and Clark would file a special exclusive on Superman’s latest exploit sometime this week, just to win Perry’s favor back.
