kelly sat on a bench in the locker room wincing holding his shoulder. the pain was getting unbearable again, he wanted to scream but didn't. so he just popped afew pills in his mouth, swallowing them dry. the squad man was ashamed that it came to this, that had to take pills just to get through the day at 51.
he didn't want matt to find out but he needed help. severide wasn't sure if he even deserved the blonde's help with how he treated him after they lost andy, casey had mostly forgiven the squad lieutenant.
kelly simply couldn't forgive himself for what he did to his boyfriend. matt was everything to him, nearly losing him with the way he acted and that scared the hell out of him.
the silver haired man went into his office, closed his door and pulled out his phone. finding his blonde baby's number, debating whether or not to text the other lieutenant.
he didn't want to blow up one of the only good things in his life, he didn't want to be alone.
fate must have been on his side this morning. suddenly, his boyfriend walked into his office with coffee and a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with extra cream cheese in hand then gave him a quick forehead kiss and said" i got you breakfast baby."
severide gave him a quick kiss and said" i appreciate it thanks, baby."
the blonde flopped on his bunk getting comfortable and noticed that kelly didn't touch the food he brought him. his boyfriend looked nervous like he going to puke
matt said" are you okay? you look like you are gonna be sick."
kelly sat on the bunk next to him and said" matt, we need to talk."
the truck lieutenant sat up, looked over at his partner and grabbed his hands. that's when he realized that severide's hands were shaking.
matt said" sev, please say something you're scaring me."
the other man's voice started to shake on the verge of tears, he said" im addicted to pills. case, im so sorry i should have told you sooner. i was panicking about what you would say, if you would l-leave me."
the blonde softened and said" thank you for telling me, it's okay. ive been concerned about you. how long has this been going on?"
kelly refused to meet his eyes and said" since we lost andy. it helped numb the pain, both the physical and emotional pain. i was lashing out at you, at shay and-"
casey started to tear up and said" what physical pain babe?"
his own boyfriend was suffering in pain. he didn't even see it or notice. how could he have not known.
severide wiped his tears and said" i got hurt on that call, so i had a doctor's appointment awhile ago. that's when i found out that i have a broken neck and i need surgery."
"i didn't want to beileve the doctor. started taking the pills to numb the pain, to get through the day and now i can't live without them."
kelly was crying freely now, covering his face feeling embarrassed and but relieved to finally say all of this out loud.
matt held him and listened, while running his fingers through the short salt and pepper hair.
severide still crying, he said" matt i need help."
casey said" i'll be with you every step of the way, kelly."
the other man said" you will?"
the blonde lieutenant said" of course, im not leaving you."
kelly said" thank you."
matt said" for what?"
the squad man said" for loving me, wanting to help me with this and not leaving me."
casey rests his head against his boyfriend's shoulder and whispered softly" i love you too and we're gonna be okay. i promise, sev."
severide let out a breath he didn't know that he was holding, wiped his eyes and kissed the blonde man.
matt happily kissed him back, the couple held eachother and started to make out. just as things were heating up between them.
the bells went off "truck 81, ambo 61 motor vehicle accident."
the squad lieutenant groaned at the interruption, gave his partner a quick kiss and said" stay safe baby."
casey said" i will," then ran to towards the app floor.
the other man was now alone in his office. remembering the breakfast that his blonde baby brought him, smiling and quickly started on it.
the bagel was still alittle bit warm, casey always put the perfect amount of cream cheese. while the coffee was in his travel mug, the squad man had forgotten it this morning but somehow matt got it for him.
it was the little things that the truck lieutenant did for the other man. this made severide really realize how lucky he truly was.
finishing his breakfast, he wanted to tell boden about everything. there was a chance that he was on scene with truck and ambo. walking to the chief's office finding it was empty and sighed in relief. hopefully when matt got back from the call, they could tell boden together.
nothing to do the squad lieutenant decided to catch up on his paperwork. he had finished about more than half of the stack when he heard the rigs return to the app floor. soon the common room filling up, everyone talking amongst themselves and the tv playing in the background.
severide went looking for his blonde but instead shay found him. she looked at her best friend and said" did you tell boden yet?"
kelly shook his head and said" no but i told casey. he's gonna help me and he's not leaving me."
shay said" good but i knew that he wouldn't leave you. casey loves you too much to do that."
the squad lieutenant said" i love him too. he's important to me i don't what i'd do without-"
the blonde paramedic rolled her eyes, lightly pushed him and said" you love your boyfriend i get it!"
as if on cue matt came into view saying hi to shay and greeted his boyfriend with a kiss.
matt and kelly aren't fully out to the rest of 51 but of course shay knows.
she's kelly's best friend after all.
casey said" are you ready to talk to boden, babe?"
those words had washed over him the reality finally setting in, he was going to tell boden everything. kelly felt a single tear escape wiping it away and nodded at his boyfriend.
casey and severide walked to boden's office holding hands but about halfway they stopped.
matt put his hand on kelly's back and said" it's going be okay, baby."
kelly nodded and said" i know."
they approached boden's office, casey knocked on the door and said" hey you got a mintue, chief?"
boden looked up from the mountain of papers and said" of course come in casey severide."
he greeted his two lieutenants and motioned for them to sit down, they did and boden said" how can i help? what's on your mind?"
kelly took a deep breath and explained everything from the beginning. the call where andy died, the pain, the doctor's appointment he had afew months ago and what the doctor had told him.
after, he finished the whole story he started to break down in sobs and apologizing profusely to boden.
matt rubbed his boyfriend's back and kissed him on the cheek, forgetting that he wasn't supposed to do that because they weren't out at work yet. but he couldn't not comfort kelly especially with him sobbing in the chief's office.
boden tried to hide his emotions but didn't succeed, so instead he cleared his throat and said" severide i understand you why you waited to bring this to my attention but you should have told me sooner-"
the squad lieutenant interrupted and said" i know chief im sorry!"
boden continued" i'll get you set up with a doctor and we can go from there. i will have to take you off of duty until the results come in."
severide was angry but said" understood, chief."
matt and kelly were getting up to leave, boden said" it's about time you two got together!"
the two men stopped and looked at their battalion chief, both looking confused then it dawned on casey what he did infront of boden.
severide smiled brightly and said" thanks chief."
boden said" does anyone else know?"
casey said" shay knows."
the chief said" i figured she knew."
after talking alittle bit more with boden both lieutenants walked out of his office and shared a quick kiss.
matt rested his hand on kelly's back and said" let's go home, babe."
kelly teared up and said" yeah home sounds good."
