Work Text:
It was Christmas Day, and no one was more excited about it than the kids of the Kim family, Beomgyu and Sunoo.
“Appa! Dad! Wake up!”
Mingyu groaned as he opened an eye only to see his two kids on the bed, all excited about the day. “What time is it?” He asked, turning to look at the clock on the nightstand.
7:50 a.m.
“Boys, it’s early,” he said, sitting up carefully to not wake up his husband, who was still peacefully sleeping.
“But it’s Christmas!” Beomgyu exclaimed, squealing when both he and his brother were pulled to lie down with their father.
As the two boys giggled, Sunoo slowly crawled up to his other father and cuddled up to him. Wonwoo stirred as he opened his eyes and saw his youngest son there.
“Morning,” Wonwoo said, raising a hand to stroke Sunoo’s hair. “Did you sleep well?” The youngest son nodded while yawning softly.
Beomgyu, who was beside Mingyu, giggled as he then jumped on Wonwoo, making him groan a little, “Merry Christmas!”
Wonwoo chuckled as he then sat up with Sunoo on his lap and turned to see his husband lying still with his eyes closed. “I think your dad fell back asleep.”
“Nuh-uh.”
The two boys giggled as they immediately crawled towards their father and started waking him up. “Daddy!” Both boys exclaimed, laughing as they immediately got off the bed and ran out of the room.
“So much for extra sleep,” Mingyu mumbled, turning to see his husband getting up and stretching. “Beautiful as always.”
Wonwoo rolled his eyes but blushed as compliments from his husband still made his heart flutter. “Come on, you need to make breakfast.”
The younger male groaned as he then sat up and followed his husband out of the room and walked towards the kitchen and living room.
“Who wants pancakes?” Mingyu asked, walking to the kitchen to get the stuff ready.
“Me!”
“Me too!”
As the two boys waited, Wonwoo decided to turn on the TV and snorted when he saw a photo of Mingyu’s concert being shown.
“It’s Daddy!” Sunoo pointed to the TV while looking at his father, who nodded and smiled.
Once breakfast was made, Mingyu set the plates on the table and turned to look at his family, who were watching a show he had guest-starred in.
“Breakfast is done.”
Both Beomgyu and Sunoo got up and immediately ran to the table, while Wonwoo walked over and looked at his husband and asked, “Are we going over to your mom’s house later today?”
Mingyu nodded as he sat down with his husband and watched as their kids immediately started eating the breakfast he made. “Yeah, she wanted us to open the gifts over at their house.” Wonwoo nodded as he then thanked his husband for the food.
When they finished eating, Wonwoo watched as the two boys immediately went back to the living room and continued to watch the TV.
“What time are we heading over?” Wonwoo asked, heading to the sink to wash the plates before feeling a pair of arms wrap around his waist.
“Probably around noon.”
The older male nodded as he then finished up and leaned against his husband, “Do you have a schedule tomorrow?” Mingyu shook his head and started swaying with his husband.
“Then we should probably pack some overnight clothes just in case,” Wonwoo said, closing his eyes lightly as he relaxed.
Mingyu hummed as he then kissed Wonwoo’s head before letting go of him and turning to see their kids jamming out to the music being played.
“Look, Dad! It’s Appa and our uncles!” Beomgyu pointed to the TV, making both the adults turn and see an old recording of the disbanded group ‘UN1VERSE’ performing their song ‘Light a Flame.’
“Next thing you know, you see my brother’s performance next,” Wonwoo muttered, making Mingyu snort as he remembered that his husband’s twin brother was still an active idol.
—
Wonwoo sighed in frustration as he tried to convince Sunoo to wear his boots as it was snowing outside. “I don’t want to wear boots!” Sunoo huffed, turning away from his father.
“Ddeonu,” Wonwoo crouched down and gently turned his son around. “You need to wear the boots; it’s snowing outside, and I don’t want you to hurt yourself if you slip and fall.”
Mingyu, who was in the room getting ready, stepped out of the room and watched as his youngest son pouted, “Can I at least wear my fox hoodie?” Sunoo asked, looking at his father with a pout.
“Yes, but only if you also bring your white puffer jacket.”
The three-year-old nodded excitedly as he then ran towards his room to grab his boots and two jackets. Mingyu chuckled as he watched his husband get up and face him.
“You could’ve helped.” Wonwoo muttered, walking past his husband and towards their bedroom to get ready.
The taller male chuckled as he followed his husband and watched as he looked for an outfit. “You had it under control, sorta.”
Wonwoo shook his head as he pulled out a white long-sleeve turtleneck and black pants. “Yeah, go finish getting ready.”
Mingyu sighed as he then grabbed a black knit sweater and a pair of jeans to change into. “Make sure to wear the black boots,” he said to his husband, who nodded and pecked his cheek.
“Appa! I can’t find my puffer jacket.” Beomgyu called out, walking into the room and looking at his father.
“Is it not in your closet?”
The five-year-old shrugged as he then waited for his aunt to help him find his gray puffer jacket. “Alright, let’s go look for it.” Wonwoo said before being stopped as he watched his husband shake his head.
“I’ll look for it; you finish getting ready.”
The shorter male smiled as he then nodded and went to the bathroom to finish up.
“C’mon buddy, let’s go look for your jacket.” Beomgyu nodded as he then turned to walk to his room and let his father look for the puffer jacket.
After a few minutes of looking around, he found the jacket stuffed somewhere in the closet. “Found it.” Mingyu announced, showing his oldest son, who took the jacket and thanked his father.
Soon enough, the family had finished getting ready and started putting the presents into the car before heading off to drive to Mingyu’s parents house.
—
When the family had arrived at Kim’s residence, the two boys immediately carefully walked over to the door and knocked.
“Omo, my favorite boys!” Mrs. Kim excitedly said, crouching down to hug her grandsons.
“Halmeoni! Merry Christmas!”
Once the family settled inside, Wonwoo smiled softly as he placed the gifts down by the Christmas tree and made sure they looked nice.
“How have you been, Wonwoo?” Mr. Kim asked, sitting down on the couch and watching as his son-in-law rearranged the presents.
The former idol looked up and looked at his father-in-law, who smiled at him, “I’ve been good.” Mr. Kim nodded as he watched his youngest grandson run to his father.
“The zipper is stuck,” Sunoo pouted.
Wonwoo chuckled as he then moved his hands to help his son and remove the jacket he was wearing. “There, all free.” Sunoo giggled as he then ran to his older brother and immediately started playing again.
As the former idol got up to stand, Mrs. Kim came out of the kitchen and looked at her son and son-in-law, “Have you all eaten?”
“We ate this morning.” Mingyu responded, placing down the last gift under the three.
Mrs. Kim nodded as she then went back to the kitchen to make lunch for all of them. “How has idol life been?” Mingyu’s father asked, turning to his son, who sighed.
“Slightly stressful but manageable.”
Mr. Kim nodded as he then looked over at Wonwoo, who decided to fix the presents again. “How about you, Wonwoo? How is it not being an idol anymore?”
“It’s alright,” Wonwoo answered as he then turned to face his father-in-law. “I do miss singing in front of an audience, but I also chose this so Mingyu and I could start a family.”
Mingyu chuckled as he then sat down and patted the space beside him, “Still can’t believe your group disbanded right after getting more recognition.” Mrs. Kim said, coming back with sandwiches for them.
“Yeah,” Wonwoo softly said, leaning against his husband’s shoulder.
As they ate, both Beomgyu and Sunoo looked at their parents and asked, “Can we open gifts now?” The oldest boy asked, giggling when his grandmother poked his side.
"Alright."
The boys cheered as they watched their parents start to distribute the presents to everyone. “You can open them now.” Wonwoo encouraged, watching as his sons immediately tore up the wrapping paper.
“Woah! I got a fox!” Sunoo exclaimed, holding up the new plushie he had gotten, “Thank you, Santa!" The family laughed as they watched him.
“I got a bear!” Beomgyu smiled, showing his bear to his parents and grandparents, who smiled and gave reactions.
As the two boys continued to open presents, Mingyu handed his husband a present.
“What’s this?” Wonwoo asked, taking the gift and unwrapping it.
Mingyu smiled as he watched his husband open the present and gasp softly as it was a new necklace. “Open it.” He encouraged his husband, who opened the necklace and smiled.
A picture of his family in, “Thank you.” Wonwoo said, smiling as he then held up the necklace.
“Anything for you, love,” Mingyu said as he understood the message and took it to put it on him.
Once the necklace was on, Wonwoo then handed his gift to his husband. “What’s this?” The shorter male shrugged as he watched the taller open the gift.
“Is this the camera I asked for?”
Wonwoo nodded as he laughed when Mingyu placed a small kiss on his head and immediately opened the box to look at the camera.
After opening presents, the family had decided to watch a few movies before eating dinner. This was the best Christmas anyone could’ve asked for, especially the family.
