Work Text:
Mix stirred awake, reaching out instinctively to feel for the warmth of his husband beside him. His hand, however, landed on a pillow. Earth was gone. He hugged the pillow close, inhaling deeply. The familiar scent of sandalwood pheromones, distinctly Earth’s, filled his senses.
"Where could your daddy be this time?" he whispered softly, his voice tinged with a hint of annoyance. He gently rubbed his now-prominent baby bump. He's five months pregnant now and Mix found himself increasingly irritable whenever he woke up to an empty bed.
Frowning, he got up and headed to the bathroom to freshen up. Once done, he stepped out of the bedroom and made his way to the kitchen.
"Auntie, have you seen Earth?" he asked the elderly housekeeper, Auntie Mana, who was busy preparing breakfast. Auntie Mana had been with Earth’s family since he was a child and remained a loyal presence even after Earth and Mix got married.
Mix had insisted on keeping their household simple, with only one housekeeper, as he disliked having too many people around. Their bungalow, nestled in the heart of a sunflower field, was modest yet perfect for starting a family. The field served as a natural divider between the Watthanasetsiri estate and the Adulkittiporn lands, where Mix’s family lived.
"Oh, he left early to check on the ranch. He mentioned the new trucks for transporting this season’s harvest to the neighboring town would be arriving today," Auntie Mana replied, placing a freshly fried plate of bacon on the table. "He said we should go ahead with breakfast since he might not be back until later."
"Alright, thank you," Mix replied, taking a seat. He and Auntie Mana ate breakfast together before he wandered out to the porch to wait for Earth.
Soft music played from the vinyl record player inside the house as Mix settled into a chair on the porch. On the small table in front of him sat a glass of milk and a plate of pancakes drizzled generously with honey—his snack. He hadn't been a fan of sweets before, but pregnancy cravings had taken over, and now he couldn’t get enough of honey.
With a book in one hand and the other resting gently on his baby bump, Mix felt a mix of calm and longing. The breeze carried the faint scent of sunflowers, and the warm morning sun bathed the fields in a golden glow.
Mix was deeply absorbed in his book, but his gaze instinctively lifted at the sound of horse hooves approaching from a short distance. He placed the book down on the table and stood up, walking toward the porch railings to watch his husband, who was now riding toward their home.
The first thing Mix noticed was the cowboy hat perched on his husband's head. He was dressed in rugged jeans, with his upper body bare as he rode a majestic brown horse. The golden sunlight of noon illuminated his toned, tan skin, highlighting the well-defined contours of his body.
Mix felt his throat go dry as he watched Earth. Then their eyes met when Earth glanced in his direction, sending a rush of warmth through him.
He gently rested a hand on his baby bump and murmured softly, "Your handsome daddy is finally here." The sour mood he had woken up with that morning vanished instantly.
As Earth drew nearer, Mix stepped down from the porch, a soft smile spreading across his lips, eager to greet his husband.
Even though Earth wasn’t particularly thrilled about waking up early, he still rose before the sun to head to the ranch. Today, the new trucks were scheduled to be delivered. He paused for a moment, smiling as he watched Mix sleeping soundly beside him.
Gently, he kissed the top of his spouse's head and lovingly rested a hand on Mix's growing belly. "Take care of your papa for me, okay?" he murmured softly to the little one nestled inside. He pressed another tender kiss on Mix and their baby before getting up to prepare for the day.
When the trucks arrived, Earth got straight to work, carefully inspecting them and directing the workers.
Around 10 a.m., he received a call from Auntie Mana, their trusted helper, informing him that Mix was already awake and had finished breakfast. She added that Mix was waiting for him.
Earth decided to wrap up his tasks quickly. He had been repairing the engine of one of their older trucks since most of the workers were busy with the harvest or their respective duties. Knowing he was skilled enough to handle it, he chose to do it himself.
Once he was done, Earth headed to the stables where his horse, Silas, was waiting. Beside the stable was a hose, and he cleaned himself up there, rinsing off the grease from his hands and arms. He glanced at his white tank top, now smudged with oil, and decided to take it off, letting the cool air dry his skin.
Mounting Silas, he informed the workers nearby that he was heading home.
As he neared their house, he spotted Mix standing on the porch, gazing in his direction. Earth slowed Silas to a gentle trot, unable to take his eyes off Mix. He watched as Mix stepped off the porch, the soft breeze catching the fabric of his vintage white long-sleeve sleepwear. The wind accentuated his baby bump, gently caressing the curves of his form. His hair danced with the sunlight, the strands glowing like spun gold.
Mix’s cheeks carried a natural blush, his eyes sparkling as though they held entire galaxies, and his smile was radiant—brighter than the noonday sun.
Pregnancy had transformed Mix into an even more ethereal version of himself, as if he were a deity gracing Earth’s mortal existence. In that moment, Earth felt the same awe-struck wonder as when he first laid eyes on Mix.
Mix was a goddess in his eyes, a vision of unparalleled beauty. And Earth? He was a mere mortal man hopelessly, deeply, endlessly in love.
Each time he saw Mix, his heart swelled anew. His love for Mix never faded, it only grew stronger and deeper.
When Earth arrived at their mini stable where Kiran, Mix’s horse, was kept, he dismounted Silas and guided him inside. He removed his cowboy hat and placed it neatly on the rack before heading toward his spouse.
Mix had stepped off the porch and was already waiting at the bottom of the steps. As Earth approached, Mix welcomed him with an embrace, their mixed pheromones mingling in the warm breeze, enveloping them.
Earth carefully returned the hug, mindful of Mix’s growing belly. Ever since Mix became pregnant, he had been extra clingy, something Earth secretly cherished.
"I’m all sweaty," Earth said, pulling back slightly from their hug.
"It’s okay," Mix replied with a soft smile. "I missed you—and our baby missed his daddy, too."
Mix tilted his head up to meet Earth’s gaze, taking his hand and placing it gently on his baby bump. Both of their eyes widened in astonishment as they felt a sudden kick from their unborn child.
Time seemed to freeze. The couple stood still, overwhelmed by the magical moment. Tears welled up in Mix’s eyes, mirroring the emotion in Earth’s. This was the first time they had felt their baby move so vividly.
Without a word, Mix wrapped his arms around Earth’s neck and rested his head against his broad chest. He could hear the steady rhythm of Earth’s heartbeat, which seemed to sync perfectly with his own. Earth’s arms encircled Mix’s waist as he began to sway them gently, matching the melody that played from the vinyl record spinning inside the house.
The timeless tune, "Can't Help Falling In Love," filled the air, a perfect soundtrack to their quiet dance. Mix took a deep breath, closing his eyes, letting the joy of the moment wash over him.
"For I can’t help… falling in love with you," Earth sang softly, his gentle voice blending perfectly with the melody. He leaned down to kiss the top of Mix’s head.
When Mix looked up at him, smiling with such warmth and love, Earth couldn’t help but smile back. He placed a light kiss on the tip of Mix’s nose, earning a soft giggle from his spouse.
Their eyes locked, sharing a silent conversation that spoke louder than words. Slowly, their lips met in a tender, lingering kiss, filled with all the love and promises they had made to each other.
The wind danced around them, carrying the soft fragrance of sunflowers. The golden blooms swayed with the breeze, mirroring the rhythm of their intertwined hearts.
When their lips parted, they gazed at each other as they smiled.
Mix let out a soft squeal as he felt Earth gently lift him into his arms. He wrapped his arms around Earth’s neck and looked up at him, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
Mix softly stroked Earth’s jawline and teased, "You’re so handsome. Your future spouse is so lucky."
"I already have a spouse," Earth replied, his gaze fixed straight ahead as he walked toward the house.
"Really? That’s a shame," Mix said with feigned disappointment, pouting playfully. "I was hoping you’d be my husband instead."
Mix smirked when he noticed Earth’s jaw clench slightly.
"You’re seducing me, aren’t you?" Earth stopped walking just as they reached the doorway to their bedroom.
"Put me down," Mix commanded, and Earth complied without hesitation.
Once on the ground, Mix turned to face him, placing his hands on Earth’s broad shoulders for support. He leaned in closer, standing on tiptoe.
"Let’s shower together, Daddy," Mix whispered against Earth’s ear, his voice dripping with mischief. "I’m better than your spouse, you know." He then bit his mark on Earth's neck.
Without waiting for a reaction, Mix turned on his heel and sauntered into the bedroom, leaving Earth momentarily frozen in place.
Mix wasted no time shedding his sleepwear and heading into the bathroom. A sly smile spread across his lips as he heard the bathroom door creak open behind him.
He stood under the shower, letting the water cascade over him, when he felt strong arms wrap securely around his waist from behind. Earth’s hands gently rested on his baby bump, tracing soft circles.
"You're my spouse. Only you," Earth murmured, his deep voice sending shivers down Mix's spine.
Mix turned to face him, smiling warmly as water streamed down their bodies. Rising onto his toes, he placed a gentle kiss on Earth's lips.
"I love you, husband," Mix said softly, his voice full of affection.
Earth didn't respond with words. Instead, he claimed Mix's lips in a passionate kiss, pouring all his emotions into the act. Mix smiled into the kiss, his heart swelling with joy as their love once again ignited like a blazing fire, unyielding and eternal.
