Work Text:
An snores.
Kohane is pretty disappointed to find this out on their first sleepover. She’s in An’s bedroom, and they’re sharing the bed because they couldn’t find the futon, and An is snoring.
It’s not, like, the particularly obtrusive kind of snoring. It’s honestly kind of cute, and reminiscent of a cat purring. But, like, a hundred times louder. It does make it a bit harder to fall asleep, which is problematic.
Oh well. Kohane resolves to fall asleep first next time.
She does fall asleep eventually, but being in an unfamiliar bed, which her girlfriend is also in, and listening to the sound of An snoring is just not very conducive to sleep, so it takes a while.
Kohane wakes up the next morning and feels cold. The blanket has been dragged off of her body and is being hogged by An.
She tries to pull it back, but An makes a disgruntled noise in her sleep and rolls over, pulling the blanket even further away.
‘An-chan,’ Kohane whispers.
Nothing happens.
She sighs and tugs at the blanket with the full weight of her body. Some of it comes free from An’s grip, and she’s able to nestle into its warmth again. Somehow An is still asleep.
Kohane is still kind of cold, so she tries to snuggle up a bit closer to An. If An wakes up, she can pretend she rolled closer in her sleep. Totally not her fault. Well, if anything, it’s An’s fault.
The next time Kohane wakes up, An’s arms are around her back and her breath is tickling her neck.
She immediately flushes red and jumps up from the bed. This, unfortunately, wakes An up, and she rises groggily to a sitting position, rubbing at her eyes. She doesn’t notice the redness at the tips of Kohane’s ears, or the stiffness with which she stands, a fact which Kohane is immensely grateful for.
An yawns.
‘Wha’s the time?’
Thankfully, the snoring seems to be a one-off occasion. The blanket hogging, however, is not. Every other time they sleep in the same bed, Kohane wakes up staring at the ceiling and questioning her life choices.
It gets to the point where she brings it up at the breakfast table. It’s autumn now, and she doesn’t want to catch a cold.
‘An-chan? I think we should start using separate blankets.’
‘Huh? Sure, why?’
Oh, An, so blissfully lacking in self-awareness.
Kohane smiles sweetly.
‘No, I just thought it would be warmer.’
That’s how they end up rummaging through Kohane’s attic for a spare blanket. They remain unsuccessful in their endeavours.
Kohane sighs.
‘This isn’t working.’
She resigns herself to her sad fate of waking up cold.
‘Kohane, I’m hogging the blanket, aren’t I.’
‘H-huh?’
‘You look way too sad about not finding an extra blanket.’
Kohane is confused. She doesn’t look sad!
‘I-I do?’
She pouts. An thinks she might die of cuteness overload.
‘Whether I’m hogging the blanket or it’s cold, I have the perfect solution!’
An is grinning in a way that honestly concerns Kohane. She has the kind of face she only has when she’s about to suggest something insane. Kohane is absolutely not agreeing.
‘An-chan, n-‘
‘What if we cuddle while we sleep?’
‘H-huh?’
Well, it makes perfect sense. It’s totally normal for girlfriends to cuddle in bed. It also means that An won’t be able to drag the blanket off of Kohane. It also means they’ll be sharing body heat.
‘H-huh?’ Kohane repeats.
Her cheeks feel like they’re on fire. It doesn’t help that An’s smile is dazzling.
Cuddle while they sleep? That’s, like, super gay. Oh god. Kohane is super gay.
She covers her face with her hands.
‘Kohane, you don’t have to be embarrassed. We cuddle all the time.’
‘B-but it’s different!’
An sighs.
‘There was that time when you fell asleep on my lap while watching a movie, and you drooled on my shirt. There was that time when I accidentally fell asleep while on shift at the cafe, and you came over to wake me up, but just ended up falling asleep next to me, and when I woke up you-‘
‘Okay, okay! Stop!’
Kohane is positively beet red. She doesn’t need these embarrassing stories recounted to her! But she gets the point now.
‘Okay, let’s cuddle when we sleep.’
‘Yes!’
An pumps her fist like she’s been waiting for this for months.
‘Dibs on being the big spoon!’
‘Wha- hey, An-chan!’
An responds by squishing Kohane’s cheeks.
As it turns out, Kohane quite likes being the little spoon. An falls asleep almost immediately after they reach the bed, but Kohane takes a moment to bask in her warmth. An is holding one of her hands, and one of her legs is draped over Kohane’s. She’s pressed against Kohane’s back, and her hair tickles her neck a little. It feels right, and Kohane feels warm. She’s lulled to sleep by the sound of An’s soft breathing close to her ear.
She wakes up the next morning, and it’s cold. An is still wrapped around her like a koala. The blanket is nowhere to be seen. Confused, Kohane wrestles herself out of An’s grip and looks around. The blanket is on the floor. One of them must have kicked it off while sleeping.
It takes a moment for the dots to connect in her head.
Wait… so it was actually Kohane’s fault all along?!
